Governor Cuomo Renewed his call this weekend for national lawmakers to pass gun control legislation, following the latest mass shooting in Oregon, and the shooting of his Legal Aide Carey Gabay last month during gang violence at a New York City Parade:

Cuomo said that New York has some of the toughest gun control laws on the books, but people sneaking in guns from other states can easily undermine them.
State police responded to 2106 Richmond Road in the Town of Union, where they uncovered a methamphetamine-manufacturing lab. Police arrested 34 year old Andrew Honnick of Endicott, with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance & Unlawful Manufacture of Methamphetamine & 47 year old Martine Ritz of Endicott, for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, & Unlawful Manufacture of Methamphetamine. Police also charged 47-year-old Robert White of Endicott with Unlawful Possessions of Marihuana. Honnick and Ritz were arraigned and remanded to the Broome County Jail with out bail. White was arraigned and sent to the Broome County Jail in lieu of $250.00 cash bail.
Governor Cuomo signed legislation to strengthen financial support for the families of terrorist attack victims. The new bill will allow insurers to waive commission fees associated with the purchase of annuity insurance for families affected by any terrorist attack on the United States, expanding on the current law which only allows a waiver for families affected by the September 11, 2001 attacks. Insurers will now be able to offer their services pro-bono and provide further financial relief to families.
Wall Street’s profits were strong in the first half of 2015 at $11.3 billion, and may have positioned New York City’s securities industry for a good year despite recent economic developments, according to a report by State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli. Despite new regulations and the high cost of legal settlements related to the 2008 financial crisis, securities industry profits were strong in 2013 and 2014, averaging $16.3 billion annually they were even stronger during the first half of this year by 29% over last year.
Last month, the Canadian Pacific Railway completed the sale to Norfolk Southern of more than 280 miles of track from Schenectady, through the Southern Tier to Sunbury, Pennsylvania. The sale meant that Canadian Pacific ceased rail operations on that corridor as of September 18th, it also means that the Canadian Pacific Holiday Train will not operate on that line in the communities formerly visited by the Train, Canadian Pacific announced that they will make 1 final donation to the food pantries affected by the sale in the southern tier this year.

A fire at 1133 Webb Hill Road in Davenport destroyed the Gannon residence yesterday. Firefighters from Davenport, Pindars Corners, and East Meredith Fire Departments responded to call, which went out at around 10:45 Monday morning. Officials said that the homeowner was not home at the time, no injuries among firefighters were reported, and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
Cornell Cooperative Extension will hold the GET SET Energy Efficiency Workshop on from 6:00-7:30 pm at Cornell Cooperative Extension on State Route 10 in Hamden tonight. More information is available at 865-6531 or ccedelaware.org.

Delaware County Sheriff's Investigators arrested and charged a Hancock area Sex Offender with a felony violation the New York State Sex Offender Registration Act. 50 year old James Blackham was charged with failing to submit an updated photograph to the Sex Offender Registry within 20 days of his registration anniversary. Blackham is a Level 1 Sex Offender, Blackham was issued an Appearance Ticket to appear in the Town of Delhi Court on April 7 to answer the charge.
The New York State Department of Labor today released preliminary local area unemployment rates for February 2015. Rates are calculated following procedures prescribed by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. The state’s unemployment rate relies in part on the results of the Current Population Survey, which contacts approximately 3,100 households in New York State each month. The State’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate remained unchanged at 5.8% in February 2015, Locally, chenango's rate was ar 6.9%, Delaware countyu's rate was at 7.3% & Otwsego county's rte was at 6.8% in february.
State Lawmakers are wrapping up work on budget bills in order to get the budget passed by the midnight deadline tonight. Area State Senator John Bonacic said that there were 2 items of interest that he was happy to see get funding:

The State Budget spending was 142 billion dollars; it included increased state aid to school districts and the ethics reform package that Governor Cuomo pushed for following the arrest of former Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver in February on federal corruption charges.
26-year-old Nigel Saunders of Binghamton was sentenced in Broome county court Friday to 25 years to life in prison, for 2nd degree murder. Saunders & Julian Talamantez were arrested for breaking into a Binghamton area home, beating & stabbing the 2 occupants and setting fire to the residence in 2013, Jordan Dordell was died following the attack, his fiancée was injured. Talamantez was sentenced to 40 years in jail for his role in the killing in Broome County Court last October.
Police in Broome County are asking for the public's help in identifying the man recovered from the Susquehanna River in the Town of Union Sunday night. The Autopsy report said that the man pulled from the river was white, about 18-25 years old and weighing 150 pounds, with tattoos on both hands. The left hand tatoo spelled out the word "Fear" and on the right hand were the numbers 9,2,3, and 12 written on each knuckle. Anyone with information is asked to call Broome County Sheriff's detectives at 778-2053.
Law Enforcement officials attended the Funeral services this morning for State Trooper Glen Woods, who passed away due to natural causes last week. the 45 year old trooper worked for Troop C at the Endwell barracks, Donations can be made to the “Glen Woods Family Scholarship Fund” at NBT Bank of Vestal.
The Attorneys General of New York, Oregon, Minnesota, Missouri and Texas filed lawsuits against Orbital Publishing Group, Inc. and a ring of interrelated New York and Oregon companies for mailing millions of unauthorized and allegedly misleading magazine and newspaper subscription notices to consumers nationwide. The solicitations were sent without the permission of the publishers and stated that consumers were receiving “one of the lowest available rates,” when, in fact, they were being charged, in some cases, more than double the publication price. The companies then pocketed the difference. New yoork residents who were a victim of a magazine or newspaper subscription scam, can file a complaint with the Attorney General’s Office at 1-800-771-7755.

State Police in Owego, New York, arrested 4 suspects for stealing over $118,000 worth of electronics from trailers at the Best Buy Warehouse parking lot in the Town of Nichols, troopers arrested 24 year old LANCE DEGRAFFENREID of Illinois, 19 year old DEVONTE HENRY of Illinois, 35 year old ROLAND JACKSON of, Wisconsin and 24 year old RICKY PEARSON of Illinois, for 2nd degree Grand Larceny, they were arraigned & were remanded to the Tioga County Jail on $50,000 bail. The investigation is continuing.
