Legislation co-sponsored by Assemblywoman Donna Lupardo of Endwell, is elevating care standards at animal shelters and animal rescue organizations in New York State. The new legislation will require shelters to pass state inspections, to be administered under the division of Agriculture and Markets. Violations could result in denial, revocation, suspension or refusal of license renewal as well as possible fines of between $100 and $1,000 per violation. The new standards take effect in 2025.

Scherzer, was throwing to fellow New York Mets Catcher James McCann, he went three and a third innings, allowing three hits and two runs, with one walk and six strikeouts on 65 pitches. McCann was 1-4 with a run scored and a walk in his fourth game with the Rumble Ponies on a rehab assignment.

Delaware County Sheriff Deputies arrested 39 year old
Kenneth Schuler of Boca Raton, Florida on charges of felony DWI and felony
aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, following an investigation
into a property damage motor vehicle accident on Lower Third Brook Road in the
Town of Walton. Schuler was additionally charged with speed not reasonable and
prudent, unlicensed operator, refusal to take a breath screening test and
operating a motor vehicle without a required ignition interlock device. Schuler
was arraigned and was remanded to the Delaware County Jail on $5,000 cash bail
pending future court action.
Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 39 year old
LeAnne Taggart of Franklin, for possession of a Dangerous Dog in Violation of
the New York State Agriculture and Markets Law.
The arrest is a result of an investigation into a report of an
aggressive dog in the Town of Sidney. Taggart is scheduled to appear at Sidney
Town Court at a later date to answer the charge.

The Chobani Foundation announced the recipients of Their 1st Community Impact Fund, which will provide $100,000 in grant funds to 4 beneficiaries locally. The Sidney Central School District was awarded $21,000, to incorporate a food truck into its nutritional education program. The Catskill Development Foundation was awarded $28,150 for a food and agricultural entrepreneur training program at Delaware County FoodWorks+, The Oxford Academy and Central School District was granted $30,000 to fund the salaries of 25 students working for local businesses in the 10-month Career Pathways Program, Cornell Cooperative Extension of Madison County received $20,850 to provide marketing assistance for farmers and managers of farmers markets looking to expand their businesses. Governor Cuomo’s office announced on Tuesday of their goal to create a program for regulated marijuana use next year. The governor’s office hosted the listening sessions throughout September and October to gauge community appetite for legalizing marijuana, A study by the New York City Comptroller’s office estimated that revenues from taxes on regulated marijuana sales could bring in $3.1 billion dollars for the state. In Colorado, marijuana retailers made $1.5 billion last year and collected $247 million in taxes.

New York Farm Bureau has released its annual "Circle of Friends," naming 160 New York State Legislators to the distinguished list. The award is an indication of the individual lawmaker's support of New York agriculture and Farm Bureau. The "Circle of Friends" honor is based upon each legislator's voting record on issues of agricultural importance as well as other evidence of legislative support, including sponsorship of bills that New York Farm Bureau has either supported or opposed during the most recent legislative session, State Senators Fred Akshar, Jim Seward & John Bonacic plus Assembly members Cliff Crouch, Bill Magee, Donna Lupardo & Gary Finch were all named to the Farm Bureaus “Circle of Friends" again this year.

Governor Andrew Cuomo's office has announced the start of a child care availability task force. The group is comprised of representatives from the child care provider community, the business community, unions that represent child care providers, representatives from several state agencies and local departments of social services will develop recommendations to make quality, affordable child care accessible across the state. The task force met for the first time on Wednesday.

Voters in the Unadilla Valley School district have until 8:00 tonight to vote on the district's proposed 10 million dollar capital improvement project. Voting is being held at the District Office Lobby.

The Food and Drug Administration announced today that Del Monte Foods has recalled more than 64,000 cases of "Fiesta Corn" seasoned with red and green peppers. So far there had been no reports of illness, Del Monte determined the cans had not been properly sterilized, leading to the risk of spoilage. State Police have located James Sitts, who was wanted on an arrest warrant out of the town of Oneonta Court for 2 counts of Grand Larceny. Sitts was located and arrested by City of Oneonta Police Officers on December 8, He was later transferred to the custody of State Police and was arraigned in the town of Oneonta Court where he was remanded to the Otsego Jail with no bail. His next court date is January 3rd.

Walton Police arrested 3 Walton residents Saturday on various drug charges, following a 6-month investigation. Arrested were 44-year-old Sueann Maler, 34-year-old James Laughman & 32-year-old Jessica Bolster, for criminal sale of a controlled substance. Governor Cuomo today signed legislation to prevent foreclosures and curb the threat posed to communities by “zombie properties.” The bill was passed as part of the 2016 Legislative Session; the legislation combats the blight of vacant and abandoned properties by expediting the rehabilitation, repair and improvement of these properties, and enabling the State to assist homeowners facing mortgage foreclosure. State Police arrested 29-Year-old Terence Ito of Walton for reckless endangerment, two counts of endangering the welfare of a child, criminal mischief and harassment. This arrest occurred after troopers responded to a dispute on Palmer Hill Road in the Town of Franklin, where Ito allegedly struck his pregnant wife in the stomach in front of their 2 young children & interfered when she attempted to call the police for help. Ito was arraigned in the adjoining Town of Sidney court and was released without bail being required. An order of protection was issued.

The Broome County Special Investigations Unit Task Force arrested 4 Walton area residents in Binghamton Wednesday afternoon. Arrested were 28-year-old Daniel Jamieson, 26-year-old Melissa Brannock, 19-year-old Kyle Buckley and 36 year old Jaclyn Calabrese, police seized 150 bags of heroin, & other narcotics. They were charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance among other lesser charges. Brannock, Calabrese and Jamieson were held for arraignment in Binghamton City Court; Buckley was released on a ticket to appear in court at a later date.
Governor Cuomo announced the first 2 major projects awarded under the $5 million Southern Tier Agricultural Industry Enhancement program. The Broome County Cornell Cooperative Extension was awarded $500,000 for a one-stop Agriculture Development Center and a Taste New York Market in Broome County, and $627,055 was awarded to Cornell University for the Stocker Cattle Initiative to further training and research in this industry for Southern Tier farmers.

These grants will assist farmers in implementing the best management practices to address water quality challenges in priority watersheds throughout New York State while increasing productivity and economic activity. The Delaware County Sheriff’s Department & State Police announced that 7 people were sent to jail on felony drug charges following the discovery, dismantling and clean-up of an active meth-lab at 116 East Street in the Village of Walton Tuesday night. Police executed a search warrant, 7 adults and 3 children were removed, and the children were provided medical evaluation for potential contamination of toxic chemicals and were placed into emergency foster care. Police seized an active meth lab, prescription medications, cocaine, marijuana and public assistance benefit cards. Sheriff’s Investigators arrested James Nash, of Walton; Amanda Bicknell, of Walton; James Klinegardner of Tennessee, Brooklyn Alford of Walton; Tammy Lewis, of Walton; Johnny & Emily Uhl of Swan Lake, on a variety of drug charges plus Endangering the Welfare of a Child. All 7defendants were returned to the Delaware County Jail on $150,000 cash bail or $300,000 property bond.

Governor Cuomo today announced that maple syrup production in New York reached its highest level in 70 years, allowing the state to retain its standing as the second highest producer of fresh maple syrup in America. New York’s maple farmers persevered through a challenging winter to produce a modern record of more than 601,000 gallons of syrup from more than 2.3 million taps across the state during the 2015 season. Governor Cuomo today announced that nearly $2 million in Senior Farmers' Market Nutrition Program checks would be distributed across the state. Delaware County Deputies investigated a 2-car accident in the Town of Walton on Lower Third Brook Road Wednesday. 67-year-old Marilyn Condon of Bainbridge went into the opposite lane around a parked vehicle and struck a vehicle driven by 44 year old Kimberly Finch of Walton.  Both drivers to be taken to Delaware Valley Hospital by Walton, Condon was issued a summons for failure to keep right for Town of Walton court on September 25th.
Delaware county sheriff Tom Mills announced that the newly formed K-9 Unit participated in its first arrest 1 day after graduating from the Academy.  K9 “Ozzie” and Deputy John Demeo, assisted Walton Police with a traffic stop Wednesday. Officers initially discovered marijuana in plain sight in the stopped vehicle; the K9 unit was brought in, which led to the discovery of heroin hidden in the vehicle.  Charged were 24-year-old Anthony Palladino of Walton, 22-year-old Troy Terney of Walton and 21-year-old Melissa Dacey of Delhi for unlawful possession of marihuana, criminal possession of a controlled substance and criminally using drug paraphernalia.   All subjects were issued appearance tickets returnable to the Village of Walton Court at a later date.

Following a 5-month investigation by the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office, Sealed Indictment Warrants were handed down by a Delaware County Grand Jury Friday.  8 people were arrested Friday on a variety of drug charges.  Charged were 23-year-old Miguel Santiago of Stamford, for allegedly selling Heroin in the Village of Stamford, & 30-year-old Gerard Johnson of Walton for allegedly selling Heroin in the Village of Walton.  Sidney police arrested 45 year old Nancy   Tomao of Sidney was arrested for allegedly selling a prescription controlled substance in Sidney, she was turned over to Delaware County  Deputies pending arraignment.  State police arrested 20-year-old Jordan King of Unadilla for allegedly selling a prescription controlled substance in Franklin; he was turned over to Delaware County Deputies pending arraignment.  Chenango county deputies arrested 56-year-old Kim Chlad of Sherburne for allegedly selling a prescription controlled substance in Sidney; she was turned over to Delaware County Deputies pending arraignment. Delaware county deputies arrested 25-year-old Sande Lower of Oneonta, for allegedly selling a prescription drug in Franklin; &  24-year-old Mandi Stratton of Walton, for allegedly selling Heroin in Walton having a child present.  All were arraigned today in Delaware county court and they are being held without bail pending court action.  26 year old Jessica Woodcock of Walton, was arrested for endangering the welfare of c child for allegedly allowing her child to be present during a heroin transaction, she was arraigned Friday and was released on recognizance pending further court action. The Investigation is continuing and more arrests are pending.
Cornell Cooperative Extension of Delaware County will be sponsoring 3 farmersmarkets for the 2013 season in Sidney, Walton and Deposit.  The Sidney Farmer’s Market will be held at the Video Entertainment parking lot, 89 Main Street from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM every Tuesday, from July 2nd to September 24th.  Walton’s market will be open on August 7th  & September 4th, at Delaware Valley Hospital, 2 dates have been chosen for markets in Deposit, August 15th and September 19th at the First United Methodist Church on 2nd Street.  More information is available at 865-6531 or ccedelaware.org.
