Several area fire departments responded to the report of a structure fire at Bordinger's Welding & Fabricating at 336 Winney Hill Road. The fire was reported at about 12:15 this afternoon, and people were able to escape the blaze. WCDO will have more information as it becomes available.

State Police & local Law Enforcement agencies responded today to a host of accidents related to the slippery roads in all of the local counties. Police agencies are reminding motorists to drive slowly now that wintry conditions have returned to the region.

The Hartwick College Board of Trustees announced that Laurel Bongiorno, will be the College's 13th president, she talked about the opportunity:

Bongiorno will assume the presidency on July 1, 2026, she succeeds James Mullen, who has served as Hartwick's interim president since 2023.

The annual Shop With a Cop event is on December 14th this year in Otsego County, where members from the Sheriff's Office, Oneonta Police Department, Cooperstown Police Department, and NYS University Police at Oneonta will be Christmas Shopping with area students. Sidney Community Foundation and the Sidney Rotary are teaming up to host a seminar on Advanced Techniques in charitable gifting, including as part of estate planning. Spokesman Whit Whitaker explains:

Whitaker said that 20% of Americans over age 50 have no children, and they may decide to leave money to specific charities, like the Rotary club or other local charities, the seminar will be held at the Sidney Library Smart Community Room at 6:30 PM on November 20th.

The Village of Sidney announced that the Village Clerks office is closed Today in observance of Veterans Day. The office will reopen Wednesday. Also, Due to unforeseen circumstances Village brush pickup has been extended 1 more week, until this Friday.

The Otsego County Sheriff’s announces the arrest of 31 year old Marcus Borggreen & 26 year old Destiny Grant both of Mt. Upton, following a trespass complaint in the Town of Westford. Deputies were dispatched to a residence for a report of 2 subjects, they were located inside the basement of the residence, and were detained and were in possession of MDMA, narcotic drugs, and several weapons. the pair are facing numerous drug & weapons charges & were transported to the Sheriff’s Office and were turned over to the Jail to be held for Arraignment.

Governor Hochul announced that the last statewide Free Fishing Day of 2025 will be today, to mark Veterans Day. During Free Fishing Days, New York State waives the fishing license requirement for freshwater fishing in New York’s waters. While no license is required, all other freshwater fishing regulations remain in effect.

On the 24th anniversary of Michele Harris’ disappearance, State Police continue to investigate. Harris was last seen on September 11, 2001, Despite extensive investigation, her whereabouts remain unknown. In the coming weeks, State Police investigators will be conducting additional searches for evidence related to this case. State Police ask that anyone with information relevant to the disappearance of Michele Harris is urged to contact the State Police Tip Line: (607) 561-7400.

State Police & State Parks Police continue the search for 20-year-old Jonathan D'Agostino, who is described as approximately 6’ tall, 210 pounds with a Shaved head, dark beard and mustache. Police reported that D'Agostino was spotted on Video footage as he was leaving Ithaca College on Sunday, Wearing blue jeans, gray sweatshirt and a green knit hat, his vehicle was located at lower Buttermilk Falls State Park in the Town of Ithaca and his cell phone was in the vehicle, with a note within the vehicle suggesting self harm. Anyone with information is asked to call 607-387-7081.

41 year old Kenneth Todd of Middletown, pleaded guilty in County Court to 1 count of 3rd degree Grand Larceny, he admitted that he and two other individuals entered City of New York property by breaking through a locked gate and stole a DEP owned woodchipper. Todd was placed on interim probation for 1 year, He has to complete 100 hours of community service, If he were to violate these conditions, his sentencing date will be moved up and he faces the potential of 2 and 1/3 to 7 years in state prison.

New York State DEC announced a drought watch is being expanded by 30 counties, bringing the total to 50 counties under a watch across the state. The action was taken after consulting with the State Drought Management Task Force and federal partner agencies. 1 of the counties added to the drought watch includes Delaware County, residents are asked to Water lawns only when necessary, Reuse water collected in rain barrels, dehumidifiers, or air conditioners to water plants; Raise lawn mower cutting heights. Use a broom, not a hose, to clean driveways and sidewalks; Wash only full loads of dishes and laundry; Take shorter showers and Wash cars less frequently.

Sidney Mayor Ray Baker gave an update regarding projects underway in the village, 1st, he said that the Clover Lane Development near West Main Street has been purchased:

Baker also said that the Stewart's project is moving forward and should be coming before the Planning Board Shortly, and the Senator Schumer is looking to convince FEMA to reverse their negative decision on the Culvert project under State Route 8.
