Norwich City Police arrested 2 men on drug charges, after they pulled over suspects accused of possessing illegal drugs. Police seized methamphetamines and heroin, they arrested 40 year old Anthony Torres of Utica & 39 year old Matthew Lamb of Norwich, they were charged with criminal sale of a controlled substance and criminal possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell, both are facing court action shortly.

The updates are designed to provide the public with an improved user experience when researching doctors who are licensed to practice medicine in New York State or when filing a complaint against a physician. This partnership allows SUNY Oneonta Pre-Nursing students to transfer into Hartwick's Bachelor of Science in Nursing program after they complete their first 2 years at SUNY Oneonta. Fahrudin Omerovic of Utica was sentenced to 12 years in prison
plus 4 years of post-release Supervision, after being convicted of in Oneida
County Court for making a terroristic threat on the Utica College campus in
March of 2018. Omerovic admitted to making the threats, which forced many to
clear the campus for 2 days to investigate the threat & find the party responsible.

series of new online surveys this week in an effort to listen to constituents
of the 52nd Senate District on the many issues set to come before the State
Senate this year. The first question
is on the “DREAM Act”, which would allow children of undocumented immigrants to
apply for state-funded, free college tuition assistance programs for New York
State colleges or universities. The DREAM Act would also create a private
scholarship fund specifically for undocumented students. Constituents are urged to visit
nysenate.gov/questionnaires/fred-akshar.

Utica Police arrested 23-year-old Fahrudin Omerovic (o MAIR o vich) on 4 counts of making terroristic threats against Utica College Monday, resulting in a lockdown. Omerovic is a Utica College student he faces arraignment this morning, the incident is still under investigation.

The lock-down on the Utica College campus was lifted late Monday Afternoon, with Residential students returning to their dorms, & Commuter students, faculty and staff were allowed to leave the campus last night. Law enforcement remained on campus last night as they continued the investigation, following the school receiving a report of a gunman on campus, which officials deemed as "Not Credible". Classes were back in session today, so far, no arrests have been made.

New York State Police and the Utica Police Department are investigating a threat at Utica College earlier today. Staff and students at Utica College received an alert at about 11:00 AM today, that the campus was on lockdown because of the threat, everyone was ordered to stay where they were while the threat was investigated. There is no confirmation of any shots fired on campus, and there are no injuries reported. Law enforcement continues to investigate threat. Local, state, and federal law enforcement are on scene.

66-year-old Ronald Cook of Utica was scheduled to be arraigned back in Oneida County Court this afternoon. Cook was on the run from Law Enforcement from last Wednesday to Saturday, when he removed his GPS Ankle bracelet & failed to visit with his parole officer. Cook served jail time for the rape of a Binghamton woman in 1990, he was arrested at a Binghamton restaurant Saturday afternoon & was turned back over to Oneida county officials.

Last Wednesday afternoon, Oneonta Police investigated possible drug activity at 14 ½ Baker Street; Police arrested 23 year old Kwame Wilson of Utica for Criminal possession of a controlled substance & Unlawful possession of marijuana. Police recovered 23 individual packets of cocaine, $246 cash, a small quantity of marihuana, Wilson was held pending arraignment in the City of Oneonta court.

State Police Campus Sexual Assault Victims Unit arrested 25-year-old Matthew Kimball of Utica; on 1 count of Sexual Abuse, following an investigation of an incident that occurred on March 11, 2016, at Motel 6, on Upper Front St., Town of Chenango. Kimball was arraigned in the Town of Chenango Court and released on his own recognizance pending further court action. The suspect and victim are students who are currently enrolled at Mohawk Valley Community College; anyone with information on the case can call state police at (315) 366-6106.

State Police in Norwich observed a 2007 Hummer traveling on State Route 12 in the Town of North Norwich; the vehicle matched the description of a stolen vehicle from Utica, and had been in a pursuit earlier in Oneida County. Several attempts to stop the driver were made and were stopped for safety reasons as the suspect approached the City of Norwich and then the Village of Greene. Troopers reported that as the vehicle entered Broome County, 2 Tire Deflation Devises were deployed, the front tires were disabled & the suspect continued to the Town of Chenango, and then fled the disabled vehicle and ran into the woods, A search by a State Police & Broome County Sheriff’s K-9 teams led to 17 year old La-Tee Baker of Utica, who was located near Otsinigo Park. Baker was charged with reckless endangerment and criminal possession of stolen property, he was arraigned at the Town of Chenango court and remanded to the Broome County jail with no bail set at this time.

46 year old Frank Vail of Oxford was arrested for 4th degree conspiracy, following an investigation by the Chenango County Sheriff's Department of an incident where Vail is accused of transporting a co-defendant from the Utica area to the Norwich area to sell narcotics. Vail will be appeaing in the Town of Norwich Court at a later date.
The City of Oneonta announced that the department of public service would be paving West Street between ravine parkway and college terrace today. West Street will be closed between the 2 SUNY entrances during the work. Oneonta city police arrested 25 year old Michael Jason Jr. of Oneonta, for promoting a sexual performance by a child under the age of 17, & possession a sexual performance by a child. Jason was a student teacher at Afton Central School and a student at the State University College at Oneonta in June, his arrest was in conjunction with the New York State Police Computer Crime Unit and the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, police said, and was initiated by a tip from the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children. Jason was held Friday afternoon pending arraignment in Oneonta City Court.
State Police Superintendent Joseph A. D’Amico announced the death of Trooper Donald Fredenburg, who was assigned to the State Police Academy for Basic School Training. Trooper Fredenburg collapsed Friday while participating in a daily physical training run with members of the 203rd Basic School. Trooper Fredenburg was administered a shock by a defibrillator; he was transported to Albany Medical Center where he died at approximately 7:30 am. Trooper Fredenburg was in his 2nd week of training at the New York State Police Academy, he resided in Utica.

Officials at the Utica School of commerce announced that the vast majority of classes at the Oneonta Branch and Sidney Site would be suspended for the Spring Semester. All current students and re-entering students will be able to continue their programs at the Utica Campus with transportation provided by the college through Oneonta Bus Lines. The college will continue to maintain the Elm Street Oneonta facilities for student support functions, with the Learning Center -Library relocating there, and computers will be available for student use, 3 days per week. The USC Board of trustees sited a decline in enrollment and recent parking changes in Oneonta for the changes.

About $80 million for 17 construction projects at some New York community colleges is hung up because the state budget approved in March inadvertently dropped the funding from the spending plan. A "clean-up" budget bill never materialized before the Legislature ended its session last month, so projects at about a dozen colleges, including Broome, will temporarily be without the funding. Broome Community College is without $5 million for the SUNY Broome Hospitality Center to be built at the Carnegie Library in downtown Binghamton. State lawmakers are not expected back before January.

Oneonta Police & State Police responded to a report Friday of 2 subjects fleeing from a stolen vehicle and jumping into the Susquehanna River. Police received a report of a vehicle stolen from the municipal parking garage in Oneonta which matched the description of the vehicle that the subjects had fled from before jumping into the river. Police arrested 22-year-old Ryan Van Allen-Cichielo of Cape Coral, Florida; and 21-year-old Eric Moore of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, they were charged with 4th degree Grand Larceny. Both are Hartwick College students, they were arraigned in the City of Oneonta Court and remanded to the Otsego County Jail to appear at a later date.
Bassett Medical Center has notified the State Office of Mental Health that due to severe provider shortages, they plan to discontinue inpatient psychiatric services. In the interim, the services will be maintained. Bassett’s emergency department will still care for patients with mental health issues; plans are underway to transition crisis center services from the hospital to a mobile crisis program. Patients currently in Bassett’s inpatient psychiatry unit will remain until they are ready for discharge. Patients needing longer-term services will be transferred to another psychiatric in Binghamton, Schenectady or Utica. Approval of the formal closure plan is expected from the state in 1 to 2 weeks.

Deputies reported that 67 packets of heroin was seized, both were charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance, Slaughter was sent to the Otsego County jail without bail, Mager had bail set at $2,500 pending future court action.

Governor Cuomo's popularity is moving upward, according to a new poll from Siena College out today. The Siena poll found 65% of registered voters found Cuomo's performance was favorable up 7% from the June poll numbers, while 30% found Cuomo’s job performance unfavorable.
