UHS Chenango Memorial Hospital's New Emergency Room configuration officially opens at 2:00 AM Tuesday morning, following a $30 Million dollar renovation, CMH Head of Nursing Dave Finney told WCDO News about the project:

Finney said that the Emergency Department had not been renovated in more than 30 years & needed to be upgraded to handle the current needs of the Greater Chenango County Area residents for Health Care. Chenango County Sheriff's Office responded to an attempted armed robbery at the Mirabito's Gas Station in the Town of South New Berlin Sunday. The employee stated that a male walked into the store and demanded money, when the suspect was unsuccessful in getting the money, he fled the scene. A State Police Unit came into contact with the vehicle that was reported in the crime, on State Highway 320 in the Town of Norwich with the assistance from the Norwich City Police Department. 28 year old Jesey Smith of Spencer was charged with Attempted Robbery, he was arraigned in the Town of New Berlin Court & was remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility without bail. Smith is scheduled to re-appear back in the New Berlin Court at a later date. The occupants of the Smith vehicle have not been charged and the case is still under investigation.
The Chenango United Way announced that they exceeded its goal of $425,00 by raising $448,981 in Chenango County for 2021, also the United Way of Delaware and Otsego Counties also exceeded its goal of $50,000 by raising $53,149 in Delaware and Otsego Counties in 2021. Funds from the campaigns will be allocated to programs that are addressing the issues of financial stability, education and health. Awards will be determined in early February.
