State Senator Jim Seward announced that $75,000 in grants he secured will go to local domestic violence programs. The funding was set aside in the 2017-2018 state budget, locally, Opportunities for Otsego will receive $16,000, Catholic Charities of Delaware, Otsego & Schoharie Counties will also receive $16,000, Delaware Opportunities will receive $6,000 & Catholic Charities of Chenango County will get $5,000
Chenango County Sheriff's Department arrested 40 year old Nathan Jackson of Sherburne for 3rd & 4th degree Grand Larceny. Jackson was arrested after he allegedly stole numerous items from the victims residence over a month long period, totaling about $10,790.00. Jackson was arraigned in the Town of North Norwich and remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility on $1000.00 cash bail.

Norwich Police arrested a man & his 2 sons, following an investigation into a June 5th assault. Police arrested 54 year old John Hughes, 27 year old Joseph Hughes & 25 year old Nicholas Hughes of Norwich on 1st degree Assault Charges, after the victim was found unconscious in the middle Silver Street with trauma to the head and face. The victim was taken first to Chenango Memorial Hospital & then was transferred to UHS Wilson Hospital in Johnson City with a fractured eye socket, skull fractures and brain bleeds. All 3 suspects were remanded to the Chenango County Jail on $5,000 cash bail each.

Commerce Chenango will hold their next Business After Hours event tonight in Oxford. The event will be held at Faber's Home & Kitchens & Countryside Stove & Chimney at 116 Warn Pond Road on Oxford from 5:00 to 7:00 PM.
Chenango County Sheriff's Department responded Sunday evening at 7:12 PM, to a 2 car crash on State Route 12 in the Town of Norwich. A vehicle operated by 37 year old Amber Ryan of Norwich NY, made a left turn into the path of a vehicle operated by 61 year old Randolph Smith of Earlville. Ryan was transported to UHS Wilson Hospital with minor injuries, her front seat passenger 26 year old Nicholas Ohl was transported to Wilson Hospital with serious injuries. Randolph Smith was transported to UHS Chenango Memorial with minor injuries; Robin Smith, a front seat passenger in Randolph Smith’s vehicle was also transported to UHS Wilson with minor injuries. Two rear passengers in Smith vehicle were uninjured. State Route 12 was closed for approximately 3 hours due to the investigation. The investigation into the crash is ongoing.

U.S. Senator Charles Schumer stopped at UHS Chenango Memorial Hospital in Norwich this morning, to announce his plans to present legislation to permanently install the Medicaid Dependant Hospitals program and the Low Volume programs that are currently set to expire on September 30th.

UHS Chenango Memorial Hospital is a recipient of both programs and would loose $1.8 million dollars annually & over 20 Million dollars in future years, if those 2 programs are not be renewed. The hospital has an annual budget of $65,000,000, 44% of their patients are on Medicaid, and about 50 patients a day use the Emergency room.
Plans are continuing to get regular Rail service back to Chenango County soon. Chenango County IDA President Steve Craig comments:

The section of the Utica Mainline through Chenango County has been closed since the 2006 floods wiped out major portion of track bed, the recent trial run of an engine showed that the track itself is ready to receive regular freight traffic.
Bail was set in Chenango County Court Friday for Ernest & Heather Franklin of Guilford, they have been charged by a Chenango County Grand Jury with Murder & Arson for allegedly killing their 16 year old son Jeffrey & Setting fire to the family home on State Route 8 on March 1st to cover up the crime. Bail for Ernest Franklin was set at $250,000 cash or $500,000 bond; Bail for Heather Franklin was set at $125,000 cash or $250,000 bond.
State Police reported that 59-year-old Mark Masler of Triangle was pronounced dead after suffering severe burns in a fire Saturday afternoon. Masler was transported to Wilson memorial Hospital & then to Upstate Medical in Syracuse where he passed away. 1 other person escaped without injuries, the cause of the fire is under investigation.

Chenango County Sheriff's Department arrested 2 Town of Greene residents for agriculture and markets law violations. Deputies arrested Martin and Mary Canny for 7 counts of failure to provide proper sustenance of farm animals and dogs, following a complaint on March 6th, the Leather Stocking Veterinary Clinic of New Berlin responded, they found numerous animals to be malnourished and recommended them to be removed from the property and offered assistance from the clinic. Martin and Mary Canny voluntarily gave up their rights to the rest of their animals, they were also taken to the Leather Stocking clinic.
The State Health Department announced that the UHS Senior Living at Chenango Memorial; Hospital in Norwich is in the top 20% of New York Nursing homes. The distinction was based on the 2016 Nursing Home's Quality Initiative, which evaluates the nursing homes Quality of Care & Performance. The UHS Senior Living department at Chenango Memorial Hospital in Norwich is located on the Hospitals 2nd floor & offers 75 beds.
