ACCO Brands announced to their employees last week that they will be closing their Sidney manufacturing and distribution plant late next year. Kori Reed the Director of Communication at ACCO Brands in Ohio told WCDO News that there is no firm timeline for the closure, the process will take most of next year to fully execute.

The Otsego County Sheriff’s Office announces the arrest 52 year old Donald Lane of Portlandville following an investigation in to a sex offender who failed to register a change of address with the New York State Sex Offender registry. Lane is accused of relocating from a residence in the Town of Oneonta to a new location in the Town of Milford without notifiying authorities, Lane was located in the City of Oneonta Tuesday & was taken in to custody, he was processed & was being held in the Otsego County Correctional Facility to await an appearance in Otsego County Centralized Arraignment.
Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies were on patrol in the Village of Walton Sunday and stopped a vehicle for multiple vehicle and traffic law violations. Deputies seized a quantity of narcotics and methamphetamine from the occupants and vehicle, Deputies arrested 40 year old Patrick Ladd of Walton for 5 counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance, & 43 year old Leslie McClenon of Walton was charged with several traffic violations & criminal possession of a controlled substance for possessing Methamphetamine with intent to sell, a 3rd occupant of the vehicle was released at the scene without charges at this time. McClenon was subsequently released on appearance tickets and directed to appear at the Village of Walton court at a later date. Ladd was held at the Delaware County Correctional Facility for centralized arraignment.
Fresh Express has issued a voluntary recall of a Fresh Express Spinach, 8 oz. size, with product code G332 and use-by date of December 15 and Publix Spinach, 9 oz size, with product code G332 and a now expired use-by date of December 14 due to a potential health risk from Listeria. Fresh Express is sold in a large number of grocery stores across the region, so far no illnesses have been reported and no other Fresh Express products are being recalled. Consumers who still have these products in their refrigerators are advised to discard them immediately.
The City of Norwich Police Department announced that their phone lines and internet are down at the Police station today Wednesday, and possibly tomorrow. They hope to have the services restored as soon as possible.
The storm which hit the region Sunday & Monday has claimed the lives of 4 New Yorkers so far. State Police said that an elderly woman in Catskill had her vehicle submerged in flood waters Monday, & she could not be reached by first responders due to the raging flood waters.

Local sales tax collections in New York state increased by 5.1% in November compared to the same month in 2022, according to State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli. Overall, local collections totaled $1.81 billion, up $88.6 million compared to the same time last year. County and city collections outside of New York City totaled $887 million, an increase of 4.4%, 55 out of 57 counties experienced year-over-year increases.

Congressman Marc Molinaro's constituent service team will hold mobile office hours from 12:00 noon to 2:00pm today at the Oneonta Town Hall. This comes after a home exploded in Oneonta December 9th, killing 1 person, injuring others, and damaging neighboring homes. Constituents will be able to connect with representatives from Congressman Molinaro's office to get assistance with issues they are facing.
Governor Kathy Hochul announced $25 million in capital grants will be made available to help volunteer fire departments upgrade their facilities and equipment. The grants will be administered by the state’s Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services, fire companies have until April 30 2024 to respond to the request for applications at dhses.ny.gov.

Chenango County Sheriff’s Office executed a search warrant in the Town of Smithville on December 8, that resulted in the arrest of 37 year old Troy Dibble of Smithville. Dibble was taken in custody, he was wanted on a felony arrest warrant for Reckless Endangerment, for allegedly firing numerous rounds from a handgun into a vehicle that was occupied. The investigation also uncovered Dibble's drug sales from within the residence, Office members recovered Heroin, Fentanyl, Methamphetamine, and numerous handguns. Dibble was charged with Criminal possession of a controlled substance, criminal possession of stolen property, criminal possession of a weapon, Criminally using drug paraphernalia, resisting arrest & several other charges, he was arraigned & was remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility on cash bail pending future court action.

A new federal charge was filed Monday against 28 year old Mufid Alkhader, who is accused of firing a shotgun outside a synagogue in Albany. Alkhader was arrested Thursday for possession of a firearm by a prohibited person, he was additionally charged Monday with conspiracy to make a false statement during the purchase of a firearm, he was not eligible to buy a firearm because of a previous protective order, so he had a friend buy the shotgun on his behalf. Alkhader is being held without bail.
Donations are being submitted to the family of Jose Martinez, who died in the fire at on Colfax Avenue in Binghamton Friday Night. Martinez died as a result of the fire, also 1 firefighter was injured when he fell 5 feet and dislocated a shoulder. over 150 people have donated to a go fund me page for the Martinez family to cover funeral expenses.

The State Office of Cannabis Management has issued a recall on “Jenny’s Zee Zee Gummies" adult-use cannabis product.” The recall states that the products did not undergo the required testing for consumer safety and product quality. the product in question was sold between September 4th and November 1st, consumers should contact the dispensary where it was purchased for more information.

Otsego County Sheriff's Office announced that the investigation into Saturday’s gas explosion on Richards Avenue in Oneonta is still ongoing, and following acquiring information from examination of the scene, interviews, and forensic examinations, they concluded that an action by the resident, 60 year old Desmond Moan resulted in a non-intended natural gas leak, The escaping gases made contact with an ignition source which resulted in the explosion. Inspections and damage assessment is still ongoing, but currently there has been over 50 property parcels, and over 60 residents and their families affected. Initially 43 residents were displaced. The American Red Cross is working with the families providing community resources and services, The State of Emergency remains in effect.

The State Police announced it had the highest Trooper candidate processing turnout in over a decade. Over 1,100 candidates attended processing weekend. Trooper candidate processing took place at the New York State Police Academy in Albany, on the weekend of December 2. Candidates can learn about becoming a New York State Trooper and sign up to take the exam today at joinstatepolice.ny.gov. Applications are being accepted until March 4, 2024.
On December 3, 2023, Delaware County Sheriffs Deputies observed a vehicle in a field and observed a person running with a flashlight toward the vehicle. Deputies identified the person with the flashlight as the operator of the motor vehicle as 34 year old Michael Hunter of Walton, who is accused of driving while under the influence of alcohol, he was charged with DWI and moving from lane unsafely. The property that Hunter was on was owned by New York City Department of Environmental Protection, DEP Police charged Hunter with Trespass & Criminal Mischief, Hunter will appear in Andes Town Court at a later date.

Residents within the affected area will be allowed to secure their homes from the outside only, Town of Oneonta Code Enforcement will be on scene with NYSEG to assist residents, the Code Enforcement Office phone number is 607-432-8606. The phone number for town hall is 607-432-2900. A representative from Mobile Crises Assessment Team is at the Oneonta Town Hall today and Wednesday at starting at 10:00 AM for anyone who needs assistance, their phone number is 315-732-6228.

NYSEG is reporting over 3000 customers without power this afternoon, following the heavy wet snow over the region. Crews are working to restore power as quickly as possible. Most of the power outages were in the Middle & Eastern townships in Delaware County.
Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies responded to motor vehicle complaint in the Town of Davenport November 26th, Deputies learned that a vehicle had been stolen, damaged and return to the owner’s residence. Later that day Sheriff's Deputies located where the vehicle had been involved in a property damage accident. Deputies determined that owner 23-year-old Hector Padilla of Davenport had made a false report and was the operator of the vehicle when it was involved in the accident. Deputies charged Padilla with 2 counts of Criminal Mischief, 1 count of Obstructing Governmental Administration & 1 count of Falsely Reporting an Incident, he was issued appearance tickets for Town of Davenport Court at a later date.

The Oneonta Fire Department and multiple mutual aid departments responded. Upon arrival, they found multiple structures with severe damage and an active structure fire. Deputies and members of various fire departments assisted residents in the immediate area with a precautionary evacuation. Once the fire was extinguished, 60 year old Desmond Moan was found deceased. A neighboring resident received medical attention for minor injuries sustained during the explosion, the initial investigation determined the cause of the fire at 18 Richards Avenue was a result of human error.

1 person has died as a result of a house fire Friday night at 72 Colfax Avenue in Binghamton, 2 dogs were also killed by the flames. Binghamton Fire fighters arrived at the scene, they found heavy flames coming from 72 Colfax spreading to 74 Colfax Ave. Firefighters removed 1 person from the house, who was transported to a nearby hospital and was pronounced dead. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
The Unadilla Fire was dispatched to a possible structure fire in the town of Unadilla on Kilkenny Road, at about 4:15 Saturday afternoon. Additional personnel were called in from Franklin, Wells Bridge, and Sidney Fire departments, it took approximately 25 minutes to get the fire knocked down.
The Tioga County District Attorney’s Office announced that 32 year old Boyd Fenton of Athens, Pennsylvania was arraigned on a 105-count indictment for setting a fire at Tioga Downs that killed 30 horses, destroyed the barn, injured a trainer, he was indicted for arson, assault, burglary, 38 counts of criminal mischief, 30 counts of interference with or injury to domestic animals; 31 counts of overdriving, torturing and injuring animals; aggravated cruelty to animals; bail for Fenton has been set at $25,000 cash, $50,000 property and $250,000 secured bond.
Delaware County Officials are aware of a complaint filed in the Northern District of New York by The Reporter. Officials can not make any comment at this time as the matter is in pending litigation, but officials deny all claims against the County as well as any individual named as a defendant in that matter, and will vigorously defend the action. The County was sued last week by the Reporter, as they claim that the action by the Board of Supervisors to remove The Reporter as the County's official paper for the publishing of legal notices, was in retaliation for coverage of county affairs by the Reporter's staff.
Delaware County District Attorney's Office announced that 44 year old Laura Davis of Big Indian was indicted for Drugged Driving by the Delaware County Grand Jury on December 7th. The Indictment alleges that on March 3rd, Davis was driving in the Village of Walton while her ability to operate that motor vehicle was impaired by a stimulant, she was also charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, and Possession of a Controlled Substance Outside of its Original Container.
State Senator Joseph Griffo of presented the New York State Senate Empire Awards to a few Chenango County businesses recently. The National Baseball Hall of Fame Announced that former Major League Manager Jim Leyland will be inducted into the Hall of Fame this summer in Cooperstown. Leyland took the Florida Marlins to a World Series title in 1997, he had several winning seasons managing the Pittsburgh Pirates & Detroit Tigers with 6 first-place finishes, 3 pennants, he won the Manager of the year Award 3 times. The Hall of Fame Weekend 2024 will be held July 19-22 in Cooperstown, with the Class of 2024 to be inducted at 1:30 pm. on Sunday, July 21, on the grounds of the Clark Sports Center. The Baseball Writers' Association of America will announce the results of its Class of 2024 Hall of Fame voting on January 23rd.

Members of the Binghamton Metro SWAT Team executed a search warrant at 39 Travis Avenue in Binghamton Friday, after a gunshot was heard earlier in the day by Binghamton Police officers conducting a welfare check. Officer found a deceased male in the basement, who died from a self inflicted gunshot wound, the name of the deceased was not released.

The Red Cross & Churchill Gym helped displaced residents, the cause of the fire is under investigation. The Stamford Village Hall will accept donations today through Friday from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM. Locally, Waste Recovery Enterprises of Sidney is collecting donations of canned food & toiletries for the 11 families displaced, teh items can be dropped off at their location at Valley View Road & they will deliver them to Stamford.

Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a call, where it was alleged that a fully disabled and incompetent individual had been left on a bus after it was parked for the evening, & after noticing that the victim had not returned home, a residential facility aid had discovered the victim’s location and brought her to a hospital. Deputies charged the bus driver, 74 year-old Lyndon Doig and the aid, 63 year-old Norma Castro, both of Walton, with endangering the welfare of an incompetent or physically disabled person, they are scheduled to appear in front of the Walton Town Court at a later date.

State Police at Norwich are seeking the public’s assistance in identifying the person pictured in a surveillance video. On October 31, shortly after 11:00 A.M., Troopers were dispatched by Chenango County 911 to a report of a person a number of stealing items from the Norwich Walmart & then hiding behind a dumpster to elude employees. The suspect was wearing camouflage, black shoes, a black backpack and a black baseball cap. The suspect appears to have bright red hair and with facial hair. State Senator Peter Oberacker announced that Lieutenant Colonel Joseph Cetta of Walton, who served with both the United States Marine Corps and the New York Army National Guard is the 2023 inductee to the New York State Senate Veterans’ Hall of Fame from the 51st Senate District. Cetta currently serves as the Walton Town Supervisor and is a firefighter with the Walton Fire Department. Cetta’s military career spanned nearly four decades.

36 year old Justin Baker of Sidney appeared in Delaware County Court Thursday, and was arraigned on a sealed indictment. The Indictment accuses Baker of possessing approximately $6,000.00 in fentanyl and methamphetamine with the intent to sell in the Village of Sidney on September 11th. Baker pleaded not guilty to the indictment & he was released from custody & was placed under the supervision of the Delaware County Probation Department, he could face up to 9 years in state prison if convicted on the top count.

The National Baseball Hall of Fame announced that they are receiving many items used in this year's World Series, won for the 1st time by the Texas Rangers. Artifacts donated by the Rangers include a Cap worn by manager Bruce Bochy; a Batting helmet worn by World Series MVP Corey Seager, & the glove worn by Pitcher Josh Sborz, & the Bat used by Adolis García in Game 1 when he hit the game-winning home run, Items donated by the Arizona Diamondbacks will include a Bat used by Ketel Marte when he extended his postseason hitting streak to a record 20 games. The items will be featured in the Autumn Glory exhibit, which will be on display through the 2024 Postseason at the hall of Fame in Cooperstown

State Police at Norwich arrested 37 year old Michael Salamey of Frankfort, in connection with a renovation at home in Chenango County. Salamey was charged with 2 counts of 3rd degree Grand Larceny, Scheming to Defraud & Petty Larceny. Salamey is accused of entering into a contract for $33,000 to complete improvements to a home in the village of Sherburne, he did not finish the work and also stopped communicating with the homeowners. Additionally, Salamey is accused of failing to pay a surveyor & Sub Contractor, he was arraigned in the Norwich City Court and is scheduled to appear at the Sherburne Village Court on November 16, 2023.

The City of Norwich will add 3 new Police Officers, from the recent class of graduates at the The Broome County Law Enforcement Academy. 40 graduates completed the 6 month training course to become deputies or police officers, and will be joining law enforcement agencies around the southern tier, including 2 deputies for the Chenango County Sheriff's Office.
U.S. Rep. Marc Molinaro announced his constituent service team will hold mobile office hours Friday from 12:00 noon to 2:00pm at the Town of Oneonta Town Hall in West Oneonta. State Police arrested 3 people after a fight at the Lantern Hill trailer park in Oneonta Saturday. An investigation by Troopers at the scene determined that 25 year old La-Tee Baker of Oneonta, 21 year old Bryanna Patterson of Oneonta, and 23 year old Bethany Brown of Delhi, were involved in a fight, both women sustained injuries, Brown was transported to A.O. After release from the hospital, Brown was charged with Assault, she was issued appearance tickets to the Oneonta Town Court on December 5.

45 year old Kellie Sanderson of Walton, appeared in Delaware County Court and was arraigned on a sealed indictment. The 5-count indictment charged Sanderson with 3 counts of Offering a False Instrument for Filing, Welfare Fraud & Grand Larceny, for submitting false applications to the Delaware County Department of Social Services on 3 separate occasions reporting incorrect household income to obtain public assistance benefits that she was not entitled to in an amount greater than $3,000. Sanderson pleaded not guilty to the charges and was released, the case is scheduled for a conference on November 13th.
The Sidney Democratic Committee is holding a Meet and Greet for Deirdre Hay, who is running on the Democratic line for NY State Supreme Court Justice for the 6th Judicial District, in the upcoming November 7th general election. Hay will meet with area residents at 6:30 in the Sidney Library Smart Community Room tonight. Hay is running for the seat against Republican candidate Cheryl Insinga. Chenango County Sheriff's Office arrested 35 year old Garrett Huffman of Nineveh after they received a complaint of an assault to an elderly couple. Huffman was acting as a Home Healthcare Aid for the elderly couple, he allegedly assaulted them & forced them to turn over debit card and signed checks, he then stole the victim's vehicle and fled the area. The victims were taken to an area hospital, in serious condition. Detectives tracked Huffman into Pennsylvania and then later back into Broome County, a felony Arrest Warrant was issued, he was found in Broome County & was taken into custody without incident. Huffman was charged with Robbery, Assault, Strangulation, 3rd & 4th Degree Grand Larceny, criminal mischief, endangering a vulnerable elderly adult among other charges, he was arraigned and was remanded to the Chenango County Corrections Division on $50,000 cash bail, $100,000 bond. Huffman is due to appear in the Town of Afton Court on a later date.

Delaware County Sheriff Office announced that 2 Walton juveniles were arrested regarding an Environmental Conservation complaint. On October 17th, Deputies located a vehicle parked in the roadway in the Town of Walton, unoccupied and nobody around the vehicle, they located hunting equipment in plain view inside the vehicle, they located multiple juveniles in a field nearby along with a recently killed deer. The Department of Environmental Protection seized the deer and the juveniles were turned over to the care of their parents. This week Deputies arrested the 2 juveniles, ages 16 and 17 of Walton, for multiple violations of the State Environmental Conservation Law, the juveniles were directed to appear at Delaware County Probation to answer the charges.
Broome County Sheriff Fred Akshar announced that tomorrow morning at 10:00 AM, Broome County Law Enforcement Academy will hold its graduation ceremony for the Class of 2023 at the Visions Veterans Memorial Arena in Binghamton. This year, 38 graduates representing 17 law enforcement agencies will officially earn the rank of Officer or Deputy Sheriff.
U.S. Marshalls arrested a Brooklyn man this morning in the City of Binghamton after attempting to escape authorities in New York City. 26-year-old Thomas Nimmons was arrested by members of the U.S. Marshal’s Binghamton Division, he was wanted on a parole warrant as well as a federal arrest warrant for Unlawful Flight to Avoid Prosecution. He is currently a suspect in an ongoing homicide investigation by the New York Police Department. Nimmons was taken into custody by the Binghamton Metro SWAT team after a search warrant was executed at 77 Mary Street. He was transported to the Binghamton Police Department and turned over to members of the NYPD shortly after.

State Police at Oneonta are looking for the public’s assistance in locating a work truck that was taken without permission from Barney and Sons Well Drilling which is located on County Highway 10 in the town of Laurens. The truck is a pump hoist, and is described as 2021 Ford F550 White Utility Truck with a red crane attached to the roof. It was stolen sometime late Tuesday or early Wednesday, Anyone with information is asked to call New York State Police at (607)561-7400.
Broome County Sheriff's Office released more details after a manhunt that ended in Tompkins County on Wednesday. On Tuesday, at 6:00 PM, Broome County deputies and State Police responded to a domestic disturbance in Whitney Point, the couple left the scene in a U-Haul van, a deputy observed it on State Route 12 in the Town of Chenango & recognized 30 year old Christopher Borges of Binghamton, who was wanted by Binghamton Police for Robbery. The deputy attempted to perform a traffic stop, but the driver, 20 year old Abigail Galusha of Endicott failed to comply. The pursuit continued onto I-81, state route 79, and ended in Tompkins County, when the vehicle went off the road and over an embankment. Galusha was taken into custody, she was wanted on multiple warrants, Borges fled into the woods. Around 10:00 AM Wednesday, Tompkins County Sheriff’s Office was notified of a possible sighting of Borges near the abandoned van, deputies took Borges into custody, he was taken to Broome County Central Arraignment, charged with Kidnapping, Criminal Contempt, Unlawfully Fleeing a Police Officer

The New York State Department of Labor today released preliminary local area unemployment rates for September 2023. The State’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate increased from 3.9% in August to 4.0% in September, locally Chenango County reported 2.9% unemployment, Delaware County 3.4% & Otsego County had 3.0% in September.

Local government sales tax collections in New York state totaled $5.9 billion in the third calendar quarter of 2023 (July - September), an increase of 3.6%, or more than $205 million, compared to the same period last year, according to a report released today by State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli. Governor Hochul announced that the state investment in renewable energy is continuing, with 3 Offshore Wind and 22 Land-Based Renewable Energy Projects, which is expected to power 2.6 Million New York Homes and Deliver 12 Percent of New York’s Electricity Needs in 2030. The Projects are projected to create about 8,300 Jobs and Bring $20 Billion in Economic Development Investments Statewide. Local projects will include Stonewall Solar will build a 145-megawatt solar facility co-located with 20 megawatts of energy storage in the Town of Meredith.

On April 28th, 2022, Deputies responded to a Domestic incident, Bennett had been harassing 2 victims by electronic means and that 1 of the victims had a full stay away Order of Protection in place against Bennett. On May 4th, 2022, 2 arrest warrants were issued by the Walton Town Court, On October 11th Deputies arrested and charged Bennett on both arrest warrants, he was held at the Delaware County Correctional Facility to await centralized arraignment.

The Chenango County Sheriff's Office is currently asking for the public's assistance on locating 22 year old Kaleb Weinmuller, who is wanted by the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office for the charge of 2nd degree Rape. Morel was charged with Criminal Possession of Stolen Property & Criminal Impersonation, he was released on an appearance ticket for the Town of Oneonta Court at a later date.
The State Comptroller's Office announced that State tax receipts totaled $51.5 billion through the 1st 6 months of State Fiscal Year 23-24, $1.7 billion higher than estimates released in the Division of the Budget in July. However, tax receipts were $6.9 billion lower than the first half the previous year according to the monthly State Cash Report released today. 26 year old Simon Wysong of Delhi was indicted Thursday in Delaware County Court, he is accused of Driving While Impaired by Amphetamines, Methamphetamines, and Fentanyl in the Town of Davenport on July 26, 2022. Wysong was driving at a high rate of speed on County Highway 10 when he failed to stop at a stop sign, crossed onto State Highway 23 & collided with another vehicle. Wysong's passenger was killed, the driver of the other vehicle suffered serious physical injuries. The Grand Jury indicted Wysong for Vehicular Manslaughter, Assault, 2nd degree Manslaughter & Aggravated Vehicular Homicide, he faces up to 8 1/3rd to 25 years in state prison if he is convicted of the most serious charge. Wysong will be arraigned on the indictment in Delaware County Court on October 23rd.

2 people were arrested following a traffic stop in Norwich regarding a stolen motorcycle, that led to a chase that ended in Unadilla. Norwich Police had attempted a traffic stop, the driver, Cody McCrady of Chenango Forks & passenger, Nichole Wiggins of Greene, fled. The pair were taken into custody in Unadilla. The investigation revealed that the Motorcycle was stolen from Manlius and the license plates were reported stolen from Johnson City. McCrady was charged with Reckless Endangerment, Criminal possession of stolen property, & criminal possess of a controlled substance, Wiggins was charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Wiggins was released on an appearance ticket, McCrady was being for arraignment.
Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies received a complaint regarding a group of students from Walton High School who received a message via a social media app, which contained threats to bomb the Walton School and cause harm to other students. Deputies responded to Walton and interviewed multiple students and it was determined that the threat was made after school hours and that an 18 year-old student of Walton High School did make threats to “bomb” the Walton High School. The juvenile was charged with Making a Terroristic Threat and was held at the Delaware County Correctional Facility for arraignment.
Commerce Chenango announced that 3 local museums are participating in the "MUSEUMS & MORE" event tomorrow. Cyberattacks in New York state increased 53% between 2016 and 2022, jumping from 16,426 incidents in 2016 to 25,112 in 2022. The number of attacks targeting critical infrastructure in New York state nearly doubled to 83 in the first half of 2023 compared to 48 during the entirety of last year, according to a report released today by State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli. Estimated losses in New York from Cyberattacks in 2022 totaled over $775 million, while losses nationwide totaled $10.3 billion. The report can be found at osc.state.ny.us.

Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies arrested 37 year old Ashley Brooker of Walton for driving with a suspended Driver’s license following a motor vehicle accident. On Friday September 28th, Deputies responded to a 1 car accident where a vehicle went over an embankment and overturned. Brooker fled the scene and attempted to have the vehicle removed by a tow company without reporting the accident. Brooker was charged with Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Unsafe Tires, Speed not Reasonable and Prudent, moving from a lane unsafely, Failure to keep right, along with various lesser charges, she will appear in the Town of Walton Court at a later date.

On May 2nd, Thayer drove from Utica to the Village of Walton to meet a person he believed to be a 14 year old boy after sending the boy numerous text messages soliciting sexual acts. Thayer admitted he believed the boy was 14, the boy was actually a fictitious entity controlled by an organization dedicated to catching sexual predators, Judge Hubbard sentenced him to a 3-year term of probation supervision, which will include specific sex offender terms and conditions.

Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 42 year old Bobbi Jo Worden of Oneonta for allegedly for throwing toilet bowl contents onto corrections officers 2 separate times while incarcerated at the Otsego County Jail. Worden was charged with Aggravated Harassment of an Employee by an Inmate . The officers were treated at Bassett Hospital and released. Worden was issued an Appearance Ticket returnable to the Middlefield Town Court at a later date.

Troopers were advised last week that Price took a used vehicle for a test drive from a car dealership, told them she’d like the vehicle checked out by her mechanic but never returned. An investigation revealed that on September 15, the vehicle was traveling on Interstate 90. Price and the vehicle were located at a truck stop in the town of Pembroke. She was arrested and was processed and was turned over to the Otsego County Jail for Arraignment.

The Deputy stopped 28 year old Matin Avdel of Johnson City, the Deputy noticed a clear plastic bag filled with pills and powder in a fanny pack Avdel was wearing, he admitted to possessing illegal substances on both his person and in the vehicle he was driving. Avdel also identified a weapon hidden in his hoodie pocket. Avdel was charged with Criminal Possession of a Loaded Weapon, Criminal Possession of a Weapon, 4 Counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Deputies recovered Oxycodone, MDMA, Amphetamines, A loaded pistol, Avdel was taken into custody and arraigned in Binghamton City Court. An investigation began in early July after Troopers learned that Brick accepted money from a victim in April for 3 separate contracting jobs for over $24,000, but Brick did not complete the contracting work at 1 location and didn’t start work or purchase materials for the other 2 properties. State Police said that the investigation continues.
State Police responded to a reported stabbing on a Trailways Transportation Bus, traveling from New York City to Binghamton. The bus was on State Highway 17 in the town of Deposit when the incident was reported and indicated that a female had been stabbed numerous times. State Police said that 32 year old Dominique Holloman of New York City fled when the bus stopped, he was located & was charged with 2nd degree Assault he was transported to the Delaware County Jail for Centralized Arraignment. The injured female had been traveling with Holloman, she was treated at Wilson Hospital for a non-life threatening injury.
Delaware County Sheriff’s Office arrested 43-year-old Dennis Ryder of Branford, Connecticut for driving with a suspended New York State Driver’s license. On Friday afternoon, Deputies observed a vehicle speeding on State Highway 97 in the Village of Hancock, they conducted a traffic stop, a check of Ryder’s driver’s license revealed that his driving privileges were suspended. Ryder was charged with Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle & Speeding, among other charges, Ryder will appear in the Village of Hancock Court at a later date to answer the charges.

Oneonta Police Department responded Thursday to the report of several loud popping sounds at the Town House Inn at 318 Main Street. Officers discovered that a firearm had been discharged in the parking lot, no firearms were found at the scene. The Investigation indicates that no individuals were injured and unoccupied vehicles had been struck by the projectiles. The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information is asked to call the Oneonta Police Department at (607) 432-1111.
Authorities recovered the body of 61 year old Dr. Chandra Prakash Joshi in Middlefield along the Natty Bumppo’s Cave trail, Investigators beleive that Dr. Joshi fell 3 days prior off of a cliff area and died from his injuries, he was a senior physicist at Bassett Cancer Institute. The sheriff’s office dispatched patrols in cooperation with Cooperstown Village Police and state Department of Environmental Conservation forest rangers, after a co-workers reported that the Doctor had failed to show up for work, and has planned to go hiking, his car had been in the parking lot, the cause of death was accidental.

48 year old John Jaromack formerly of Franklin, in Delaware County Court Friday for 2 counts of Criminal Sexual Act. Jaromack engaged in 2 or more sexual acts with a child less than 11 years old, in the town of Franklin & at least one act with a child less than 13 years old, in the town of Franklin. The sentences will run consecutively so that Jaromack will be sentenced to a total of 10 years in state prison and 10 years of post-release supervision, he will also have to register as a sex offender after he is released from state prison.
Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies arrested 42 year old Leslie McClennon of Walton for Obstructing Governmental Administration. On August 16th, Deputies assisted State Police and the Walton Police Department in locating a male who had numerous Arrest Warrants issued for his arrest by multiple agencies. McClennon is accused of misleading Deputies & purposely interfering and obstructing their investigation, she is also accused of assisting the wanted male in fleeing law enforcement. McClennon was released on an appearance ticket for the Town of Walton court at a later date.

Delaware County Sheriff's Office announced that 2 people survived a plane crash in Delaware County Saturday Night in the town of Franklin. The pilot was 72 year old Ron Galuppo of Texas, the passenger was his son, 22 year old Nathan Galuppo, of Texas. Delaware County 911 was alerted by Air Traffic Control in Boston Massachusetts about a mayday transmission from a plane experiencing engine failure, they also received a call about a small plane crashing near a residence in Franklin. Both men crashed while attempting to fly home to Texas from Maine, they were taken to Delaware Valley Hospital in Walton after they were able to escape the wreckage of their plane, they suffered only minor injuries, Delaware County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Federal Aviation Administration with the investigation.

State Police and Ithaca Police held a press conference today regarding the disappearance of 33 year old Thomas Rath of Ithaca on May 20. The investigation eventually evolved into kidnapping and murder, with the investigation covering 2 area counties & the State of Maine. State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli, the Otsego County Sheriff's Office & The Oneonta Police Department announced the arrests of 3 people of Phinaliz Communications LLC, who are accused of operating a long-running scheme to steal over $1 million from the Medicaid program. The 3 defendants were identified as 46 year old Philip Mtui of Mechanicsville, who owns the company, operations manager Mbaga Kaiza, and Dispatcher & Driver Tony Taylor, who were arrested last Thursday. Over a 4-year period, Mtui and Kaiza defrauded the Medicaid program by claiming payment for rides that never occurred, and double, triple, or quadruple billing for rides that did occur. Mtui and Kaiza were arraigned in Oneonta City Court for 1st degree Grand Larceny, both were held on $250,000 bail. Taylor was arrested on 1 count of conspiracy, he will be arraigned on September 19th, more arrests are expected.
Delaware County Sheriff's Office announced that an Arrest Warrant issued by the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office has resulted in the arrest of a Sidney man. Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to a check the welfare on Interstate 88 in the Town of Sidney, for a man climbing on the bridge. Deputies subsequently located 43 year old Arthur Cotton of Sidney, who was wanted on an active arrest warrant out of Chenango County, for Sexual Misconduct. Cotton was arrested and turned over to the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office.

27 year old Taykwann Browne of Brooklyn was sentenced to 10 years in jail in Broome County Court Thursday. Browne pleaded guilty to felony criminal possession of a weapon, he admitted that on January 18, he illegally possessed a loaded 9-millimeter pistol in the City of Binghamton. Browne had escaped supervision while having an active homicide warrant in New York City, he was located driving in the City of Binghamton when police attempted to pull him over, he failed to comply and drove off, he crashed the car & then fled on foot & was apprehended, a loaded handgun & narcotics were recovered at the scene. Browne was on parole for a 2015 robbery conviction in Brooklyn at the time of the arrest, he is also facing murder charges in New York City.
Governor Kathy Hochul today announced the ratification of a 4-year labor agreement with the United University Professions, which includes over 37,000 SUNY system faculty and professional employees. The agreement runs until July 1, 2026, it won the approval of 96.4% union members who cast ballots.

73 year old Danton Schriber of Walton appeared in Walton Town Court today and entered a guilty plea to Driving While Intoxicated. On May 12th, State Police pulled Schriber over after several traffic violations were observed, he failed the sobriety test and a chemical analysis of his blood revealed a blood alcohol content of .15%. Schriber’s license was revoked for 6 months, he was assessed a fine and surcharge, and ordered the installation of an Ignition Interlock Device, he will also be required to enroll in the Impaired Driving Program and the Victim Impact Panel.

On August 11th, Deputies responded to an accident on State Highway 28, in the Town of Delhi. Olvera was charged with DWI and driving while having a blood alcohol content of 0.08% or higher, plus moving from lane unsafely, Olvera was released on appearance tickets returnable to the Town of Delhi Court at a later date.

On July 29th, Deputies received a call regarding an abandoned vehicle parked in a driveway located on State Highway 28 in the Town of Delhi. Deputies made contact with Mills, they discovered that she was operating a motor vehicle while her driving privileges had been suspended, having 4 active suspensions. Mills was charged with Aggravated Unlicensed Operation, Uninspected Motor Vehicle, Operating a Motor Vehicle without Insurance, and other related charges, she was released with an appearance ticket where she will appear in the Town of Delhi Court at a later date.
42 year old Vincent Rispoli of Delhi was sentenced in Delaware County Court after refusing to participate in the Delaware County Adult Treatment Court Program. Rispoli had previously pled guilty on May 8th, to DWI, he was arrested by Delhi Police on November 21, 2021, Rispoli had a BAC of .18 percent. Judge Rosa sentenced Rispoli to a 1-year conditional discharge, a fine and surcharge, Victim Impact Panel, the Impaired Driving Program, and a six-month driver’s license revocation. Prior to sentencing, Rispoli had been given the opportunity to participate in the Delaware County Adult Treatment Court Program, but refused stating that he did not believe he had a substance abuse problem.

Upon arrival, the Troopers discovered several broken and intact beer bottles, some of which contained gasoline, a victim stated that Harris threw the bottles, starting the fire. The Bottles were tested, the results confirmed the presence of Harris’ DNA on the bottles. Harris will be sentenced to five years of felony probation supervision when sentenced at a later date.

Governor Kathy Hochul at the Great New York State Fair today signed an Executive Order directing State agencies to increase the percentage of food sourced from New York farmers and producers to 30 percent of their total purchases within five years. The Governor also signed legislation to bring together students at the New York State Fair to develop innovative agricultural technologies as well as legislation to support smaller and newer fairs across the state while promoting youth involvement in agriculture and domestic arts.

The investigation revealed that Wayman had been involved in a Domestic Dispute while in a moving vehicle, having unwanted physical contact with the victim while in the presence of a child within the vehicle, the victim possessed an order of protection against him. Wayman was charged with Endangering the Welfare of a Child, Criminal Contempt, Harassment & Aggravated Unlicensed Operation and other related violation, he was arraigned in the Town of Walton Court and was remanded to the Delaware County Correctional Facility and is scheduled to appear in the Town of Walton Court on a later date to answer the charges.

Judge Rosa ordered a pre-sentence investigation to be undertaken by the Delaware County Probation Department. If found to be appropriate, Wignall will be placed on probation supervision for a five-year term.

35 year old Antonio Felice of Utica appeared in Delhi Town Court and entered guilty pleas to Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs & Bail Jumping. Felice was apprehended in Utica, he was arrested on a warrant & was transported to the Delaware County Jail, he was sentenced to a jail term to be followed by a year of conditional discharge & his license was revoked.
Binghamton Police Department announced the names of the couple who were found after a fire was extinguished at 56 Howard Avenue. The investigation revealed that 64-year-old Patrick Angeline shot his wife, 62 year old Wanda Angeline, multiple times before starting the fire. He later shot himself inside of the home. Delaware County District Attorney's office announced that 26 year old John Macrabie of Walton, was arraigned on a 4 count indictment in Delaware County Court. Macrabie was charged with Endangering the Welfare of a Child, Disseminating Indecent Material to Minors & Criminal Sexual Act, he is accused of sending a child naked pictures of himself to entice sexual acts, which allegedly occurred, in the presence of a 2-year-old child. Macrabie pleaded not guilty, he was released to the supervision of the Delaware County Probation Department, the case is scheduled for a conference on September 5th.
Broome County Sheriff’s Deputies responded Saturday to the apartments at 101 Hooper Road for complaint of shots fired. Deputies located a male suffering from a gunshot wound to the abdomen on the lawn, he was taken to Wilson Hospital and was in stable condition following surgery. 25 year old Jeffrey Gates of Endwell was charged with Assault with a Weapon, Criminal Use of a Firearm & Reckless Endangerment, he was taken to Broome County Central Arraignment and remanded to the Broome County Correctional Facility, the investigation is continuing.

Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 27 year old Chase Northrop of Morris as a Fugitive From Justice out of the state of Texas. The Investigation revealed that Northrop violated the terms of his probation which led to a warrant for his arrest, Northrop turned himself in to the Otsego County Sheriff’s Office today where he was taken in to custody, he was arraigned and was remanded to the Otsego County Correctional Facility to await extradition to Texas.
Broome County Sheriff's Office reported that a mudslide occurred this morning in Windsor, partially blocking State Route 79 near Piper Hill Road, shortly after 5:00 AM today. The southbound lane was blocked for several hours as State DOT crews worked to clear the road.

Delaware County Sheriff's deputies arrested 34 year old Travis Loucks of Hobart on Friday, after a Deputy observed a vehicle traveling at 75 mph on State Route 10 in Delhi. in a posted 55 mph zone. Loucks' Drivers License & vehicle registration was suspended, he was ticketed for Operating a Motor Vehicle with a Suspended/Revoked Registration, Aggravated Unlicensed Operator, speeding & several other charges, Loucks was released & is scheduled to appear in the Town of Delhi Court at a later date.

Simpson forcibly stole property from another person while brandishing a knife on August 14th 2022 in Binghamton, he was identified hours later through video surveillance of the area of the crime. Simpson will also serve 5 years of post release supervision.

Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 55 year old Troy McDonald of Unadilla following a traffic stop on July 23rd. McDonald was charged with Operating a Motor Vehicle while Registration is Suspended, he was issued Uniform Traffic Ticket returnable to the Town of Unadilla Court at a later date.
Pennsylvania State police Arrested 40 year old Christopher Boyle of Binghamton, for allegedly selling large amounts of methamphetamine in Susquehanna County. Troopers encountered Boyle during a pre-arranged drug sale and arrested him without incident, they eventually seized Methamphetamine, Boyle was arraigned Friday and was sent to the Susquehanna County Prison on a $50,000 cash bail, he was charged with 3 counts of possession with intent to manufacture or deliver a controlled substance, 4 counts of criminally using a communication facility, and more than a dozen other related charges.
State Police are looking for 2 people who stolen over $1,100 worth of various merchandise from Walmart in Oneonta. The incident happened on July 27, around 12:00 noon, Police said that they selected merchandise throughout the store, removed packaging off some of the items then walked through a closed register aisle before exiting the store. They were seen left leaving the store in a dark colored sedan with New York State license plates. The State Department of Labor released preliminary local area unemployment rates for June. The State’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate held constant at 3.9% in June, locally Chenango County had 2.8% unemployment, Delaware County had 3.6% and Otsego County had 3.3% in June.
STATE POLICE at Troop C reported that 17 year old Jason Babcock of Colesville has been located and returned home. Babcock left his residence on Colesville Road on July 18 on his bicycle.

National Baseball Hall of Fame Induction Ceremonies will be held this weekend in Cooperstown. The festivities start with the Parade of Legends Cooperstown at 6:00 PM Saturday. The parade originates at Lake Street and Chestnut Street, proceeds down Chestnut Street toward Main Street and onto Main Street to the Baseball Hall of Fame. State DEC Officers have charged an unidentified man in Roxbury for illegally shooting a bear at the Stratton Falls Campground in the town of Roxbury July 10th. DEC Officers found the dead bear hidden under a swimming pool in a backyard on the property, the man admitted to shooting the bear as it was walking by his home. The unidentified man was charged with shooting and killing a bear illegally, killing a bear out of season, and discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a dwelling, the tickets are returnable to the Town of Roxbury Court.
The Delaware County IRT Military Medical program concluded on Wednesday, after 9 days of services offered for free at the Walton High School. The military was able to serve 1,079 patients, performing 7,181 procedures for a total cost savings to the community of $585,141.81. Delaware County Director of Planning & Watershed Affairs Director Shelly Johnson Bennett said that Delaware County will apply again in the future to bring these needed Medical, Dental, Vision & Veterinary services back to the County.

The National Transportation Safety Board released information regarding the crash of a single engine Cessna Airplane on May 28th in the town of Plymouth at about 2:50 PM, the pilot, Shawn McMahon of Binghamton, was fatally injured. The plane flew 2 separate sky diving flights that day, a co-owner of the airplane reported that following the 2nd flight, McMahon determined that he had 40 gallons of fuel. During the accident flight, McMahon announced that the skydivers were away & he was descending rapidly, a follow up announcement was unintelligible. 1 eyewitness told investigators that an airplane flew near her house very low, with the engine sputtering & the pilot attempted to start the engine unsuccessfully & she heard the impact, another eyewitness heard the engine shut off earlier when the skydivers jumped, the engine restarted and the plane continued. The investigation is continuing.

Governor Hochul announced today that New York will be sending engineers to Perform Dam Safety Inspections in Vermont, after their recent devastating flooding. So far, New York has deployed 9 engineers from the New York Power Authority and the Department of Environmental Conservation to Montpelier, Vermont to assist in performing dam safety evaluations throughout the state. The Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services is coordinating additional incoming requests for assistance from Vermont and State agency partners stand ready to provide resources as necessary.
The Delaware County District Attorney's Office announced that 29 year old Autumn Transue of Denver Colorado was indicted for Driving While Intoxicated. On March 8th, Transue is alleged to have operated a motor vehicle while intoxicated, she was stopped by the Colchester police. The indictment accused Transue of felony DWI, & driving with a blood alcohol content over .08%. A warrant for Transue's arrest has been issued, if she fails to appear, the DA’s office will work on extradiction.

State Police issued 39 tickets in Broome County during an “Operation Hard Hat” detail. Troopers from the Troop C Traffic Incident Management Unit monitored traffic on State Route 17 in the town of Sanford where road crews were completing bridge work. The 39 tickets issued included 13 for speeding, 8 for cell phone use while driving, 12 were for not wearing seatbelts, and 6 were for other assorted violations.
Delaware County Public Health has a free rabies vacciantion clinic today at the Walton Town Highway Garage, for dogs, cats & Domesticated ferrets. The Clinic will run from 5:00 to 7:00 PM today.

The U.S. Attorney's Office announced that Dennis Nelson was sentenced to additional prison time, as he was found guilty of sending threatening letters to Judge Thomas McAvoy, Then Congressman Anthony Brindisi & US Senator Chuck Schumer, while in State Prison on another charge. Nelson threatened to blow up the Courthouse in Binghamton, Nelson was sentenced to 7 more years in prison and 3 years of supervised release after his incarceration.
Chenango County Sheriff's Office arrested 49 year old Edward Williamson for Burglary, Grand Larceny, Criminal Mischief and Conspiracy. Williamson was arrested following an investigation of a burglary that occurred in November 2022 in the Town of New Berlin. Williamson was arrested at the Oneida County Correctional Facility, where he was being held on unrelated charges, he was transported back to Chenango County for arraignment & was remanded back to the Oneida County Correctional Facility, he will return to Chenango County at a later date.
The Otsego County Sheriff’s Office has arrested 35 year old Brian Worden of Oneonta following a disturbance call. Worden is accused of possessing a controlled substance when police showed up to a disturbance in the Meadows Office Complex Parking lot, Worden was arrested & was issued an appearance ticket.

An investigation revealed that the weapon is a “ghost gun”, plus he is accused of possessing 2 magazines that are not New York State SAFE Act compliant and were loaded with armor piercing ammunition. Rotunno was transported to Broome County Central Arraignment and Processing.

Donnelly was charged with Criminal Possession of Stolen Property, Reckless Endangerment, and Criminal Mischief, Donnelly was arraigned and remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility on $5,000.00 cash bail.
Chenango County Sheriff's Office arrested 32 year old Megan McGowan of Oxford on 2 counts of Overdriving, torturing and injuring animals & failure to provide proper sustenance after an investigation into an animal complaint. McGowan was charged after it was found that there was a dog on her property that did not have any food or water and was not being cared for properly, Deputies also found a deceased dog in a shed that died from lack of care. McGowan was released on an appearance ticket for Town of Oxford Court at a later date.

The Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 42 year old Kristina Hill of Cooperstown following the report of an accident on July 9th in the Town of Burlington. Hill was charged with Leaving the Scene of a Personal Injury Motor Vehicle Accident, Failure to Keep Right & Moving from a Lane Unsafely, Hill is accused of leaving the scene after crashing into a mailbox & failing to report the accident, also a child sustained an injury in the accident. Hill was issued Uniform Traffic Tickets returnable to the Town of Burlington Court at a later date.

State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli announced that the Property tax levy growth will be capped at 2% for 2024 for all counties, towns and fire districts, as well as 44 cities and 13 villages. DiNapoli’s office calculated the 2024 inflation factor at 6.26% which is well above the 2% allowable levy increase. The tax cap limits annual tax levy increases to the lesser of the rate of inflation or 2% with certain exceptions including a provision that allows municipalities to override the tax cap.
