State Police were dispatched Christmas day at about 12:30 PM to assist the Oneonta City Fire Department with a fully engulfed single wide trailer at the Oneida Village Mobile Home Park on Oneida Street. Fire personnel located a deceased male in the residence. State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation responded to the scene, the deceased man has been identified as 50 year old Aaron Blakeslee, who resided in the trailer. Oneonta Fire Department reported that 1 dog and 2 cats also died in the fire, there were no injuries to any firefighters. Investigators are working with the City of Oneonta Fire Department and State Fire Investigators to determine the cause of the fatal fire.

The State Department of Public Service announced it has expanded its investigation into NYSEG and sister company Rochester Gas & Electric, for potential mismanagement of their utilities’ billing systems and protocols. The Department’s Consumer Advocate will host a series of public forums in affected areas starting in January to hear consumer concerns first-hand, after over 4700 customers complained of sudden spikes in their electric bills of about 60% on average earlier this year. Customers t should contact the Department’s Office of Consumer Services to file a complaint at dps.ny.gov.
Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies arrested a Hamden man on charges stemming from a Menacing Complaint Tuesday. Deputies responded to a reported menacing complaint, Upon arrival Deputies interviewed 49-year-old Hayes Hathaway, deputies determined that Hathaway had pushed the victim from behind, displayed an axe while verbally threatening to cause harm to the victim and then terminated the victim’s electrical supply. Deputies charged Hathaway with 1 count of each of Menacing & Harassment, & was released & ordered to appear in Town of Hamden Court at a later date.
Governor Kathy Hochul signed a legislative package to crack down on pandemic fraud. The Legislation increases the award amounts given to individuals who report fraud related to a State of Emergency. Currently, private citizens can file civil lawsuits on behalf of the government to help recover defrauded money and may be rewarded a percentage of the money recovered. With this new law, whistleblowers may be eligible to receive additional money if the fraud was perpetrated during a state of emergency.

The State Department of Health urges New Yorkers ages 6 months and older to get a flu shot, with the Department’s latest report showing an additional pediatric death, bringing the total to 5 so far this season. The Department's new flu surveillance report shows a total of 217,094 positive influenza cases across all 62 counties in New York have been reported to date. Outside of New York City, week-over-week lab-confirmed flu cases are up 4 percent to 36,047, the report is available at nyshc.health.ny.gov.
Cortland County Sheriff’s Officers responded to the Town of Homer for a motor vehicle accident, the driver, 20 year old Lucas Walley of Walton is accused of being intoxicated & driving off of the road. Walley was charged with Driving with .08 of 1% or More of Alcohol, Driving While Intoxicated, Driving Across Hazard Markings, he was processed and released on his own recognizance with appearance tickets returnable to the Town of Homer Court.

37 year old Jonas Whaley was sentenced Monday in US District Court in Syracuse to 87 months in prison for possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine and possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime. Whaley admitted that he possessed 50 grams or more of a substance containing methamphetamine & he possessed 2 pistols and a revolver, which he used to protect himself while distributing the drugs. Whaley will also serve a 4-year term of post-imprisonment supervised release and will forfeit $3,600 in drug proceeds.

The Broome County District Attorney’s office announced that 42-year-old David Coffey pleaded guilty to Criminal Possession of a Weapon for having an illegal, loaded .40-caliber pistol in the City of Binghamton on May 25, 2021. Members of the Broome County Special Investigations Unit Task Force, executing a search warrant, found the gun and small amounts of methamphetamine at Coffey’s home on Clifford Street. Coffey had previously been convicted of Assault in Delaware County in 2003, & had previously was charged with Criminal Possession of a Forged Instrument, Petty Larceny and Conspiracy for allegedly trying to cheat a Town of Chenango resident by paying for electronics with counterfeit funds. Coffey will be sentenced to 7 years in State prison plus 5 years post-release supervision in February.

Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies responded Friday to a report of a violation of an Order of Protection in the Town of Deposit. 50 year old Brett Conklin of Walton, allegedly violated an active Order of Protection by entering the residence of the protected party, Deputies located and arrest Conklin for Criminal Contempt, he was released on an Appearance Ticket to appear before the Town of Deposit Court at a later date.

State Attorney General Letitia James announced that her office, along with a coalition of 5 other states and the Federal Trade Commission, secured $9.4 million from Google and iHeartMedia for airing misleading ads about a Google device. Google paid Corporate radio personalities to record endorsement ads describing their positive experience using the Google Pixel 4 phone, without ever using them, the misleading ads ran in English and Spanish more than 23,000 times in 10 different markets, in violation of New York's consumer protection laws. Google and iHeartMedia will pay New York $1.58 million.
State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli's office audited the Downsville School District, The audit found that the board and district officials did not always ensure claims were properly audited before payment. Auditors reviewed 150 claims packets totaling $870,798 and found claims totaling $700,507 were not properly audited. School Officials also did not obtain the minimum number of quotes for nine claims totaling $18,628.

The State Department of Labor announced that the number of private sector jobs in the State increased by 3,700 to 8,063,000 in October. The State's unemployment rate increased .1% to 4.4% in October. The number of private sector jobs is back up to where it was prior to the start of the pandemic in March 2020.

Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies arrested of 41 year old Corey Maraglio of Davenport, on November 7th, Deputies received a complaint from a female reporting that her ex-boyfriend had disconnected the power supply to her residence in an attempt to unlawfully evict her in the Town of Davenport. Maraglio was charged with Unlawful Eviction, he was released on an appearance ticket returnable to the Town of Davenport Court at a later date to answer for said charge.

The City of Oneonta will use more than $200,000 in Community Development Block Grant funds to replace 30 water service laterals for low- to moderate-income households.

The State Health Department reported that COVID 19 statistics continue to increase, as the regular flu cases are also widespread. Statistics from November 5th through the 7th showed that 6.84% of those test were positive for the virus, patients hospitalizations are approaching 3000 statewide, with 302 ICU patients and 105 of those were on ventilators. There were 66 more deaths reported in Hospitals & nursing homes over the 3 day reporting period.

State Police announced that In the month of October, members from Troop "C" removed 34 impaired drivers off the roadways. 3 of those impaired drivers also had a child under the age of 15 in the vehicle with them, 5 of those drivers were more than double the legal limit, 7 of those drivers were under the influence of drugs.

State Police responded Wednesday to an SUV Rollover accident on Frost Hill Road in the town of Plainfield, where the vehicle driven by 28 year old Amber Brown of Rome went off the roadway, struck an embankment and partially overturned. 3 year old Amina Estrada was pronounced dead at the scene, 2 adults & 4 children in the Estrada family were taken to Saint Elizabeth Hospital in Utica for further medical care. The accident is still under investigation.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies received a 911 call regarding a disabled vehicle blocking a portion of the roadway located on Case Hill Road in the Town of Franklin on Ocotber 18th. Deputies interviewed the driver of the vehicle, 52 year of Terri Nocela of Downsville, she was charged with DWI, Felony DWI, Operation of a motor vehicle with a BAC greater than .08%, Operating a motor vehicle without an ignition interlock device, along with other lesser charges, Nocela was arraigned & was released on her own recognizance, she was ordered to appear in the Town of Walton Court at a later date.
Local government sales tax collections grew by 10.2% in the third quarter of 2022 compared to the same period last year, according to State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli. The report stated that it was the 2nd straight quarter that year-over-year growth did not keep pace with inflation for counties and cities outside of New York City, although 52 out of 57 counties experienced growth in collections.

Health Department officials said that 1 unvaccinated dog was exposed & was euthanized, 3 people are undergoing post exposure treatment. Oneonta Police Department responded to the Townhouse Motor Inn Saturday for the report of a man sleeping in the stolen motor vehicle. 39-year-old Terrence Mewborn of Binghamton, was found to be in possession of the stolen car, a loaded handgun and a variety of illegal drugs, he is also accused of obstructing the police investigation, he was charged with Criminal Possession of a controlled substance, Criminal Possession of a weapon, Criminal Possession of Stolen Property, and Obstruction of Governmental Administration, Mewborn was arraigned & was remanded to the Otsego County Jail on $50,000 cash or $500,000 bond.

Assemblyman Joe Angelino & State Senator Peter Oberacker and local officials unveiled the newly-named SP4 Richard F. Walton, Jr. Memorial Highway in Gilbertsville. A bill sponsored by the lawmakers renamed a portion of State Highway 51 after the fallen Vietnam War medic, who was raised in the Town of Butternuts, he served in the 326th Medical Battalion, 101 Airborne, American Division of the U.S. Army. On February 6 1970, Walton lost his life in a helicopter crash while serving his country as a medic.

$48.7 million in federal highway safety grants have been awarded to 580 programs across New York State. The purpose of this grant program is to provide funds to local, state and not-for-profit agencies for projects that improve highway safety and reduce deaths and serious injuries due to crashes. State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation is asking the public to keep their eyes open for a Buffalo Turbine “water pump”, which was stolen from a building that was in the process of getting demolished on State Route 8 in the town of Masonville. The item was taken some time between July and October. The pump is red and is marked with a yellow “2”, Anyone with information is asked to contact New York State Police at (607)561-7400, a picture of the machinery can be found on the WCDO Facebook page.
Governor Kathy Hochul announced applications are now being accepted from small businesses that have successfully completed the pre-screening process to become certified for the COVID-19 Capital Costs Tax Credit Program. The refundable tax relief program targets COVID-19-related expenses such as disinfectants, HVAC equipment, Expenses related to increased outdoor activity and outdoor space expansions & Machinery and equipment to facilitate contactless sales. The caller was 45 year old Jason Culligan of Texas, it was discovered by Deputies that Culligan had an active arrest warrant out of Harris County Texas for Aggravated Assault. Deputies took Culligan into custody, he was arraigned in the Village of Walton Court and remanded to the Delaware County Correctional Facility pending future court action & extradition.

State Police responded Friday to State Route 26 in the town of Maine for a report of a 1 vehicle crash. When a trooper arrived, the vehicle was upside down and the male driver was still inside. 65 year old Mark Truesdail was transported to Wilson Medical Center where he later died. An investigation revealed that Truesdail was south on State Route 26 when he left the roadway, went into a ditch, which caused the vehicle to go airborne and strike trees.

Governor Kathy Hochul and Attorney General Letitia James today announced a major expansion in usage of New York State's Red Flag Law. Following an executive order and legislation signed by Governor Hochul, courts across the State have issued 1,908 Extreme Risk Protection Orders, more than doubling the number of orders issued since the law became effective in 2019. State Police have applied for 339 orders since the Buffalo Tops Supermarket shooting, that was more than 300% higher than the number of applications made last year, and courts have approved 86.5% of those applications.
Delaware County Sheriff's Office arrested 25 year old Ryan Decker of Walton Sunday, after Deputies observed a vehicle traveling at 72 miles per hour in a posted 55 mph speed zone. Decker was stopped & a check of his driver’s license revealed that his driving privileges were suspended in the State of New York. Decker was charged with Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle, speeding along with other charges, he was released and is scheduled to appear in the Town of Colchester Court at a later date.

Governor Kathy Hochul joined Acting Superintendent Steven Nigrelli in honoring 218 new New York State Troopers as they graduated today from the 211th session of the Basic School of the New York State Police Academy. The ceremony was held at the Empire State Plaza Convention Center in Albany. Today's graduation increases the State Police ranks to 4,742 sworn members. 29 of the new Troopers will report to Troop C in Sidney.
Delaware County Deputies were dispatched On April 29th to a report of a burglary at Herman’s Trailer Sales in the Town of Walton, followed by additional reports of larceny and burglary from the same location, The Investigation revealed that rare antiques and jewelry stolen from the Herman's property were sold for cash at a pawn Shop in Utica. Delaware County Sheriff's Office arrested 40 year old Christopher Lacey of Downsville for Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle, following an investigation into a motor vehicle accident on October 5th on River Road in the Town of Colchester. Deputies reported that the driver left the scene, Walton Police located Lacey, who's driving privileges were revoked for refusing to submit to a chemical test. Lacey was issued an appearance ticket for the Town of Colchester Court at a later date.

DiNapoli said that the city of Poughkeepsie was the only one with Significant Fiscal Stress, North Tonawanda was in Moderate Fiscal Stress, 5 were listed as susceptible to fiscal stress, none of the area towns, villages or counties made the list this year.

The National Weather Service investigators revealed that a tornado moved through the Walton area on Sunday September 25th. The tornado moved through between 6:38 and 6:41 pm. Tornado damage was located along Walton Mountain Road where trees fell in a convergent pattern, damage was also reported on Route 10 to an auto repair shop and the west branch of the Delaware River along South River Road. The Weather Service measured the tornado’s winds at EF0 to EF1.

The National Weather Service investigators revealed that a tornado moved through the Walton area on Sunday September 25th. The tornado moved through between 6:38 and 6:41 pm. Tornado damage was located along Walton Mountain Road where trees fell in a convergent pattern, damage was also reported on Route 10 to an auto repair shop and the west branch of the Delaware River along South River Road. The Weather Service measured the tornado’s winds at EF0 to EF1.

State Police responded on September 24th to the Oneonta Walmart after a report that a Samsung cell phone and wallet containing cash and cards were stolen. Both items were accidentally left in the women’s restroom, when the owner realized that they left the items behind, they returned to the restroom and could not find them. The cell phone and the wallet were later located inside the Grand Union in the town of Hartwick, the cash was not located. Officers located a 26 year old male who was shot in the abdomen, he was taken to an area hospital for emergency surgery. State Department of Labor today released preliminary local area unemployment rates for August. The State's unemployment rate increased from 4.3% in July to 4.7% in August, locally, Delaware County had 3.7% unemployment, Chenango County 3.3% and Otsego County 3.4% in August.

The Delaware County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating the theft of a 30-foot camper from a Case Hill Road residence in the Town of Franklin. The camper was last seen on August 13th or August 14th and was reported stolen on August 27th, it is described as beige & gray colored, Keystone Ultralite Camper with New Jersey plates TXP17X. Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies arrested 68 year old Peter Maguire of East Meredith following a trespass investigation in Walton. On August 11th, Deputies responded to a report of a male entering onto and trespassing on several properties in the Village of Walton. After the investigation, the Village of Walton Court issued a criminal summons to Maguire for trespassing, he was arrested September 10th he was released and was ordered to appear in Walton Village Court at a later date..

Broome County District Attorney Mike Korchak announced that 32 year old Amanda Hoyt of Binghamton, pleaded guilty to the felony offense of Attempted Burglary in the Second Degree. In January, Hoyt illegally entered a St. Charles Street apartment in the Village of Johnson City and struck the resident in the arm with a hammer causing injury. Hoyt is a Second Violent Felony Offender and will be sentenced to 5 years in state prison on November 15th.
Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a Fight-in-Progress Complaint in the Hamlet of Arkville on July 16th. Rolland Billadeau of Shandaken allegedly pushed and struck the victim, Billadeau was located on August 21st and was served with a criminal summons on the charge of Harassment in the Second Degree. Billadeau is scheduled to appear before the Town of Middletown Court at a later date to answer for the charge. Sheriff’s Deputies were assisted by members of the New York State Police.

Nicholas & Terry DeCutler were arraigned in Otsego County Court Monday on 2nd degree Murder charges. The Brothers are accused of fatally stabbing 24 year old Kaleb O'Neill in an alleyway at Dietz Street in Oneonta on Memorial Day. The DeCutler's were being held on Bail in the Otsego County Jail pending a court appearance on September 19th.

Governor Kathy Hochul announced that all SNAP households will receive the maximum allowable level of food benefits for the month of August. the additional allotment will result in a $234 million to eligible families, households already near or at the maximum benefit level will receive an additional payment of $95 this month.
Norwich Middle School Principal Michelle Osterhoudt, has accepted the position of Superintendent of the Margaretville School District. Osterhoudt, of Oneonta will take over as the Margaretville Superintendent for the start of the new school year, she had served in the Norwich district for several years, she also served on the Oneonta Common Council and served various capacities for the Oneonta NAACP.
The State DEC has expanded its Drought Watch to about 2/3rds of the state's land, as dry weather conditions continue. The watch now includes all of the counties south of the Mohawk River Valley, & excludes those in the Adirondacks, Eastern Great Lakes, Westchester County & New York City. DEC Officials are encouraging residents in affected counties, particularly those dependent on private groundwater wells, to conserve water whenever possible during the coming weeks. The Broome County Special Investigations Unit Task Force executed 2 narcotics search warrants in Binghamton, at 65 Schubert Street and 216 Court Street. Police found 60 grams of Fentanyl and drug packaging materials at the Schubert Street address, Orlando Torres of Binghamton was charged with 2 Counts each of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance & Criminally Using Drug Paraphernalia. Police found approximately 15 grams of Fentanyl packaged for sale and other drug packaging materials at the Court Street location, Kaheem Ward of Binghamton was charged with 4 Counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance and 2 Counts of Criminally Using Drug Paraphernalia.
New York State has announced a statewide pharmacy standing order for all pharmacies for naloxone beginning today. Naloxone blocks the effects of opioids allowing a person to regain consciousness and resume normal breathing. The State health department stated that some pharmacy chains already have provided their own standing orders, covering over 2,600 pharmacies, and independent Pharmacies may now also have naloxone ready for use.

Law enforcement agencies throughout the State are increasing patrols to target speeding through Sunday, as part of Speed Awareness week. Last year, law enforcement throughout the state issued 23,087 tickets for speeding and 32,170 tickets for other vehicle and traffic law violations, such as impaired and distracted driving.

Sidney Area 1st Responders were dispatched to the report of a tractor trailer going into a ditch in the south bound lane of State Route 8 South of Sidney This Morning. Crews emptied the contents of the trailer for several hours, the vehicle was being removed from the site earlier this afternoon.
Fire Companies from Broome and Chenango Counties responded early this morning to a house fire at 101 Sapbush Road in the Town of Barker at about 3:30 AM. Fire Fighters from Chenango Forks, Whitney Point, Lisle, Greene, Smithville among others were called to the scene, occupants in nearby houses were evacuated, no injuries were reported, the cause of the fire is under investigation.
Police responded to the report of a Bomb Threat at the Heath Sciences Building on Corliss Avenue in Johnson City Friday. The threat is being investigated by the University Police Department & local law enforcement agencies & the FBI, the threat was deemed not credible & the building was opened again on Saturday. Broome County DA's office announced that 42 year old Matthew Bowden of Deposit, pleaded guilty to felony Criminal Contempt. In 2021, Bowden Violated a court order of protection by harassing the protected party named in the order. He was sentenced to 1 to 3 years in New York State Prison.

State Police announced that they removed 36 impaired drivers off the roadways in the month of July. Troop "C" encompasses seven counties including Broome, Chenango, Delaware, & Otsego counties.

Delaware County Sheriff's Office executed a search warrant at D's Pizzeria in Walton and arrested Damien Falconio on 2 counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child, 1 count each of Forcible Touching, Unlawful Imprisonment & Persistent Sexual Abuse. Falconio was convicted of 3rd Degree Rape & Sexual Abuse in 2012, he was released from state prison as a Level 3 Sex Offender in August 2016 and just completed his parole supervision in June. Falconio was arraigned and remanded without bail to Delaware County Correctional Facility. The investigation is ongoing and additional charges may be filed at a later time.
Otsego County Sheriff’s Office, arrested 25 year old Clayton Truax of Roseboom on 2 counts of Assault & Endangering the Welfare of child. Truax is accused of hitting his child with a metal bottle, causing an eye injury, he was remanded to the Otsego County Correctional Facility on $5,000 cash or $50,000 bond.

29 year old Danielle Migdal of Norwich has been identified as the person who died in a 2 vehicle accident in the Town of Davenport July 6th. Migdal was a passenger in a vehicle on County Highway 10, that entered the intersection of State Route 23, & was struck by a pick up truck, the accident is still under investigation.

State Police arrested 18 year old Noe Casas-Aguilar of Binghamton and a 17-year-old juvenile for 2 counts of 1st degree Burglary, 2 counts of 1st degree Robbery plus Criminal Possession of a Weapon & Reckless Endangerment. Troopers were dispatched Sunday Morning to a residence on Bevier Street in the town of Dickinson for a report of 2 males that broke into an occupied home. State Police arrested 42 year old Christopher Yeary of Hamden, Saturday night for Criminal Possession of a Weapon, Unlawful Imprisonment, Criminal Mischief, Criminal Obstruction of Breathing, & Menacing, following a domestic dispute on Chambers Hollow Road. Walton Police Officers were first on scene and assisted in removing a victim from the area, Yeary allegedly choked, then menaced the victim with a firearm. He then prevented the victim from leaving the residence and smashed the victim’s cell phone. Yeary refused to leave the residence to speak with law enforcement. After several hours, Yeary was taken into custody, he was arraigned and remanded to the Delaware County Jail on $25,000 bail or $50,000 bond.

State Police responded early Saturday Morning to a 1-vehicle crash on Shacktown Mountain Road in the town of Pittsfield. Troopers discovered that a vehicle exited the roadway, went down an embankment and struck trees, a 22-year-old passenger was pronounced deceased on scene. The 22-year-old driver was transported to Bassett Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. The crash remains under investigation.

A 43-year-old David Jakubonis of Fairport was charged in federal court Saturday with assaulting a member of Congress using a dangerous weapon. Jakubonis faces up to 10 years in prison if convicted of wielding a sharp object at Congressman Lee Zeldin during a campaign event in Monroe County Thursday night. Jakobonis was charged by local law enforcement with Attempted Assault in the attempted attack, Zeldin wasn’t injured.
Delaware County DPW announced the closure of county Route 37 in the town of Middletown to through traffic starting at 7:00 AM on Monday July 25. Crews will be performing a slope stabilization project, the closure will be between Main Street and Breezy Hill Road, work is expected to be completed by the end of August. The road will be open for one lane traffic controlled by a traffic light, during off-work hours.

Beers was transported to AO Fox Hospital's Tri-Town Campus in Sidney, where he was pronounced dead.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture announced that Smithfield Packaged Meats of Iowa, has recalled about 185,610 pounds of ready-to-eat bacon topping products. The bacon is being recalled because it may be contaminated with "extraneous materials, specifically metal," Consumers who have purchased these products are to return them to their place of purchase, or throw them out.
In the 1st 6 months of mobile sports wagering, New York State has far surpassed every other state, as well as the Division of the Budget's revenue projections. Delaware County Sheriff Craig DuMond announced the graduation of Corporal Jeffrey Clark and his partner "K-9 Edge" from the K-9 Academy. After more than 3 months of training, the class graduated 10 handlers and their K-9 partners as certified in patrol techniques. Corporal Clark and Deputy K-9 Edge are now certified for patrol, with specific training in obedience, tracking individuals, locating discarded or secreted items, criminal apprehension and handler protection. Corporal Clark and K9 Edge will return to the Academy this fall and further their training and certification in explosives detection.
STATE POLICE at Troop C announced that 1 person was arrested during an Underage Drinking Initiative in Delaware County on Wednesday. Alcohol was sold to a minor at Smiley’s Convenience Store located at West Main Street, Sidney, an appearance ticket was issued to the clerk who sold alcohol to the minor. Several other businesses in Sidney, Walton, Franklin & Delhi were in compliance.

Legislation co-sponsored by Assemblywoman Donna Lupardo of Endwell, is elevating care standards at animal shelters and animal rescue organizations in New York State. The new legislation will require shelters to pass state inspections, to be administered under the division of Agriculture and Markets. Violations could result in denial, revocation, suspension or refusal of license renewal as well as possible fines of between $100 and $1,000 per violation. The new standards take effect in 2025.

Development Chenango Corporation announced the next phase of the ‘Hotel Norwich’ initiative. State Police responded to a report of a head-on collision involving an SUV and a Trailways bus on State Highway 23 in the town of Davenport. The only occupant of the SUV, a 65-year-old woman of Stamford, was pronounced deceased on scene. Her name is being withheld pending notifications to family. 5 people were on the bus, the driver is a 44-year-old woman of Astoria, and passenger who is a 59-year-old female of Hartwick were transported to Bassett Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries. 3 other passengers were not injured, The investigation is on-going.
A law introduced after the murder of Utica teen Bianca Devins has passed in the State Senate and Assembly. Bianca’s Law would create criminal and civil penalties for disseminating personal images of crime victims. In 2019, Bianca Devins was murdered by Brandon Clark in Utica, he posted photos of her body on social media, which were spread on various platforms and sent directly to members of her family. The law is headed to Governor Hochul’s desk for approval..

The State DEC is reminding area residents that the annual burn ban remains in effect until May 14th. The ban was implemented more than a decade ago to prevent wildfires during a traditionally dry & windy period of the years, when brush fires can start & spread quickly. The State Rangers recently ticketed an Unidentified Town of Hartwick man who attempted to get rid of Blueberry bushes on his property by burning them.

On April 28th 2022, members of the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division received a report that an assault occurred in the Delaware County Correctional Facility involving two inmates. Martin Planty Jr, of Walton assaulted another inmate by striking the other inmate, causi9ng injuries to the victim's face and chest. On Tuesday, Planty was charged with 2nd degree Assault, he was arraigned at the Town of Delhi Court, he was returned to the Delaware County Correctional facility.

McDonald is accused of possessing a catalytic converter that had been stolen from a vehicle in Milford, he was charged with criminal possession of stolen property, auto stripping, criminal mischief, criminal tampering, trespassing, resisting arrest, obstruction to governmental administration, possession of burglar tools and false impersonation, He was remanded to the Otsego County Correctional Facility pending future court action.

On February 24th, 2022, Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies responded to the Town of Walton residence of Joseph Hahn, to assist members of the Delaware County Probation Department with a home visitation, where it was discovered that Hahn was found to be in possession of Suboxone without a prescription. this week, lab test results confirmed the substance was Suboxone, Deputies arrested Hahn and charged him with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Hahn was issued an appearance ticket and is scheduled to appear in the Town of Walton Court on a later date.
On April 7th, Sidney Police responded to a report of people fighting in the street on Bates Terrace. Police arrested 24 year old Nathanial Baron of Oneonta for 3 counts of Menacing & 29 year old Sean Alvarez of Sidney for 3 counts of Menacing & 3 counts of Reckless Endangerment, both were processed and released on appearance tickets to appear in Village of Sidney Court at a later date. The investigation is still open and more charges are expected to be filed.

State Police arrested 40 year old Joshua Condon of Hartwick for Predatory Sex Assault Against a Child in 2 different counties, after it was reported to State Police that Condon raped and sexually abused two victims under the age of 13 on multiple occasions. Condon was remanded to the Otsego County Jail on no bail, it was also revealed that Condon raped a victim under the age of 13 in Delaware County, 34 year old Jessica Bresee of Hartwick was also charged after investigators discovered that she knew about the sex assaults and did not report them to police, she was charged with Criminal Facilitation in Otsego & Delaware Counties.

40-year-old Anthony Robertson was taken into custody in Binghamton, he was wanted on arrest warrants for murder and kidnapping in Massachusetts. Binghamton police and U.S. Marshals took Robertson into custody Tuesday, Robertson and 35-year-old Anwar Kelly of Binghamton fled on foot, they were apprehended after a brief chase. Police executed a search warrant on a vehicle and at an apartment at 83 Pennsylvania Avenue, they seized a loaded “ghost gun," a stolen handgun, a rifle and ammunition, plus fentanyl and cash. Robertson was turned over to the Marshals Service, Kelly was arraigned in Binghamton City Court and sent to Broome County Jail.
The state Court of Appeals upheld a lower state court ruling that invalidated the newly redrawn maps for the State Senate districts and the state’s Congressional Districts. The court found that the maps that were drawn by the state legislature and signed by Governor Hochul were gerrymandered to benefit Democrats, a “Special Master” will be paid to redraw the maps, that is likely to be Jonathan Cervas, a professor at Carnegie Melon University, who recently set up districts in Pennsylvania.
