The Final Report from the National Transportation Safety Board has been released regarding a 2024 plane crash in Delaware County. The report said that the accident was likely due to the pilot; 76 year old Roger Beggs who had spatial disorientation while flying in poor weather conditions, the single-engine, Piper Malibu crashed on June 30, 2024, near Trout Creek, 12 minutes after taking off from the Albert S. Nader Regional Airport in Oneonta, on its way to Yeager Airport in Charleston, West Virginia. State Police identified the victims of the crash as Roger Beggs, his daughter Laura VanEpps, and her husband, Ryan VanEpps, and their children James and Harrison VanEpps.
State Police conducted an Underage Drinking Detail in Chenango County, all businesses were in compliance; NONE of the locations checked sold alcohol to a person under the age of 21. 13 businesses were checked in Norwich & Sherburne, During these investigations, businesses are checked utilizing a Trooper in plain clothes and one or several underage operatives who cannot lie about their age or provide a false date of birth, if asked.

Chenango County Sheriff’s Office arrested 47 year old Michelle Brown for Endangering the Welfare of a Child and Harassment. Deputies responded to New Berlin for a reported dispute, Brown allegedly subjected a juvenile victim to unwanted physical contact. Brown was released on an appearance ticket to appear in the Town of New Berlin Court at a later date.

A Delaware County Grand Jury returned a 9-count indictment against 24 year old Donovan Connelly of Walton, for 6 counts of Sexual Abuse, for the alleged sexual abuse of a 17 year female co-worker while working in a position of authority. Other counts charge Connelly with Criminal Obstruction of Breathing, 2 counts of Stalking. Connelly was issued a criminal order of protection, which he violated, which led to a charge of Criminal Contempt. The investigation is continuing, anyone with additional information should contact the Walton Police Department at 607-865-5400.
The U.S. Department of Transportation's Federal Aviation Administration announced an Airport Improvement Grant for the Eaton Airport in Norwich. The grant was for just over $1 Million Dollars and will be used to re-seal & resurface the runway, the grant money will fund about 95% of the project.
State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli has completed a study of the $277 billion Enacted Budget for the current State Fiscal Year, which has an increase of 7% from the previous State Budget. DiNapoli's report stated the largest increases in spending have been in Medicaid and School Aid, other potential issues are the the retrenchment of federal support; persistent inflation and increasing local government fiscal needs, also the state took action to preserve healthcare coverage for over a million New Yorkers, but that still resulted in 450,000 New Yorkers losing eligibility. The state has significantly increased its reserve levels at approximately $15 billion.
The Delaware County Sheriff’s Office is seeking the public’s assistance in locating 38 year old Jennifer Hewitt, who is wanted on a Bench Warrant issued by the Town of Davenport Court, Hewitt was indicted by a Delaware County Grand Jury on charges of 3rd-degree Grand Larceny recently, following an investigation into a fraud complaint where Hewitt unlawfully issued bad checks totaling more than $14,000 and withdrew the funds without having sufficient balances in her accounts. Anyone with information pertaining to Hewitt's location should call the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office at (607)832-5555 or “Submit a Tip” at their Sheriff’s APP.

State Police arrested 3 people following a traffic stop in Broome County. Troopers were patrolling Johnson City & observed a vehicle commit Traffic Law violations. Troopers conducted a traffic stop on Prospect Street in the town of Dickinson. The operator was identified as 51 year old Gregory Jackson of Brooklyn. The passengers were 60 year old Sircurtis King of Binghamton & 38 year old Jhenna Wood of Binghamton. Troopers with the assistance of a State Police K9, located cocaine, fentanyl, a digital scale, packaging materials and a large amount of cash. Jackson, King and Wood were each charged with 4 counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, 2 counts of Criminally Using Drug Paraphernalia and all 3 were processed and were transported to the Broome County Jail for Centralized Arraignment.
The City of Oneonta announced that a contractor working for Firstlight Fiber will be installing new underground fiber cable on Ford Avenue between the intersection of Main St. and the Community Bank driveway entrance, starting at 7:00 AM until the Work is completed. The road will be closed to one lane of traffic with flaggers and temporary no parking will be implemented for both sides of the roadway throughout construction. State Police arrested 20 year old Isaiah Owens-Chamorro of Oneonta, for Criminal Mischief, after Troopers were dispatched to Thetford’s Auto Shop on Keith Street in the town of Oneonta. Owens-Chamorro’s vehicle had been impounded & was being stored there, he requested permission to retrieve personal belongings, instead, he drove the vehicle from the property without paying the tow bill and damaged a gate while leaving the premises. A trooper observed the vehicle on State Route 23 and conducted a traffic stop, Owens-Chamorro was taken into custody, and the vehicle was towed back to Thetford’s. Owens-Chamorro was processed and issued an appearance ticket to the Oneonta Town Court on August 4th.
The Village of Sidney announced that the Village Clerk’s office will be open starting Monday, they will operate out of the Former DMV office in the Sidney Civic Center until ceiling repairs are completed in the regular clerk’s office.

As part of his guilty plea, Wesley admitted he had been previously convicted of rape in New York in 2001, he also admitted that from at least December 2024 through February 2025 he received and distributed child pornography & he possessed over 200 images and 18 videos of child pornography. In addition to the 25-year imprisonment term, United States District Judge Anthony J. Brindisi imposed 15 years of supervised release, forfeiture and directed restitution to victims of the offense.

60 year old Robert Scott of Binghamton, was indicted in US District Court on a charge of possession with intent to distribute fentanyl and crack cocaine. According to the indictment, on October 30, 2025, Scott possessed with the intent to distribute 40 grams or more of fentanyl and 28 grams or more of crack cocaine. Scott was also on federal probation at the time of the offense. The charge filed against Scott carries a minimum sentence of 5 years in prison and a maximum sentence of up to 40 years in prison, a fine of up to $5,000,000, and a period of supervised release of at least 4 years and up to life, if convicted.

This campaign began Monday & will run through Sunday, July 5. Law enforcement officers across New York will conduct sobriety checkpoints and target dangerous and aggressive driving during what is considered the busiest travel weekend of the summer. To help ease travel during the busy holiday weekend, temporary lane closures for road and bridge construction projects on New York State highways will be suspended from 6 am. Thursday, July 2, through 6 am. Monday, July 6, some work may continue behind permanent concrete barriers or for emergency repairs.

State Police arrested 37 year old Sean Haynes of Johnson City for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, after a Trooper observed a motorcycle speeding and initiated a traffic stop. The Trooper determined that the motorcycle was unregistered and uninsured & Haynes was in possession of suspected crack cocaine. Haynes was arrested & was later turned over to the Broome County Jail for Centralized Arraignment.

38 year old Jennifer Hewitt of Bloomville, was indicted by a Delaware County Grand Jury, Counts 1 and 2 are for 3rd degree Grand Larceny, for unlawfully issuing a check from a different bank to Delaware National Bank of Delhi and then withdrawing more than $3000, to have insufficient funds in either account to cover her withdrawal on 2 occasions.
29 year old Wesley Eignor of Hobart, was indicted by a Delaware County Grand Jury for Attempted Assault, Obstruction of Governmental Administration and Aggravated unlicensed operation of a Motor Vehicle. The indictments stem from an incident where Eignor was stopped by a Delaware County Deputy for speeding, he resisted arrest & assaulted the Deputy, and did not have a license or privilege of operating a motor vehicle.

The operator of the vehicle was Maurice Stewart, who was charged with several counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Police seized cocaine, methamphetamine, 2 cell phones & Cash, Stewart was processed & was transported to the Delaware County Jail for Centralized Arraignment.

The Delaware County Board of Supervisors has approved funding for a countywide Fire Services Assessment to be conducted by Emergency Services Consulting International. The approval follows recommendations from the Delaware County Fire Advisory Board’s Recruitment and Retention Committee and an overwhelming majority of County Fire Chiefs regarding the challenges facing Delaware County’s volunteer fire service. The Delaware County Board of Supervisors approved Resolution No. 96 authorizing the transfer of $73,828 to retain ESCI to perform the assessment, which should take about 9 months to complete following project initiation and data collection.

The tariff relief program will provide direct payments of a minimum of $1,000 and a maximum of $25,000 to eligible producers. On June 24th, Deputies responded to an "in progress" domestic incident, Deputies found that Barriger had engaged in a physical domestic with another person while a child was present, Thursday, Deputies received court documents they located & arrested Barriger, he was charged with Endangering the Welfare of a Child and Harassment & he was processed, arraigned & was released on his own recognizance and was directed to reappear at the Town of Walton Court at a later date to answer the charges.
Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 29 year old Makayla Rutherford of Hartwick, for 2 counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child & 1 count of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, following an investigation into a domestic dispute in the Town of Hartwick. Rutherford is accused of possessing illegal controlled substances while having custody of 2 children, she was arrested and processed on the charges & was turned over to Otsego County Corrections pending Arraignment.
Delaware County Sheriff's Office arrested 46 year old Sandra Schaffer of Franklin following the investigation of a domestic incident. On May 20th, Deputies were dispatched to a domestic incident in the Town of Sidney. Schaffer allegedly kicked another person in the chest, Deputies submitted requests for a Criminal Summons and an Order of Protection, Deputies received the documents & on June 17th, Schaffer was charged with Harassment, she was issued the Order of Protection & was released and ordered to appear in the Town of Sidney Court at a later date to answer the charge.

State Police arrested 41 year old Donatello Lazarati of Baldwinsville for Bail Jumping and Criminal Contempt, following a violation of a court order issued following his arraignment on a previous Grand Larceny charge. Lazarati was prohibited from leaving the United States and was directed to surrender his passport. Lazarati failed to comply with those conditions, State Police were notified Thursday that Lazarati was attempting to leave the United States and purchased an airline ticket to Qatar at John F. Kennedy International Airport, he was arrested at the airport, brought back to Troop C, and was processed in and was remanded to the Chenango County Jail on $35,000 cash, $50,000 credit or $250,000 partially secured bond.

Chenango County Sheriff's Office arrested 60 year old Steven Moore of Bainbridge for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance as well as on an active bench warrant Thursday. Deputies observed Moore on Bixby Street, they were aware of the bench warrant issued by the Town of Bainbridge Court and took him into custody without incident. Deputies discovered methamphetamine in Moore's possession, he was transported to the Chenango County Sheriff's Office, he was arraigned & was remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility. He is scheduled to appear in the Town of Bainbridge Court at a later date.

Crosby was charged with Making a Terroristic Threat as a Hate Crime, The investigation determined that Crosby posted a threatening comment on Facebook in response to a WBNG news story featuring Senator Webb at a Juneteenth event. Crosby was transported to the Broome County Jail for centralized arraignment. State Police also determined that Crosby was in possession of firearms despite being prohibited from possessing firearms due to a prior felony conviction, Police Investigators recovered a rifle, a large capacity ammunition feeding device, and a firearm suppressor, all of which are prohibited under New York State law. Crosby was additionally charged with four counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 3rd Degree, class “D” felonies.

The United States Attorney's Office announced that 20 year old Jerry Butler of Walton pleaded guilty in US District Court to receiving child pornography. Butler admitted that in January and February 2025, he used a social media messaging application to receive child sexual abuse material from an out-of-state minor victim. Butler exchanged approximately 20,000 messages with the victim in which Butler persuaded the victim to create and send him sexually explicit depictions of herself, or he would publicly embarrass her if she did not comply with his demands. Butler faces a term of imprisonment of at least 5 years and up to 20 years in prison when sentenced in October, he also faces a fine of up to $250,000 and a term of supervised release of at least 5 years and up to life. Butler will also be required to register as a sex offender upon his release from prison.
Chenango County Sheriff’s Office arrested 51 year old Anthony Sawyer of Norwich Monday following an investigation into a Domestic incident. Deputies responded for a disorderly conduct complaint in progress, deputies determined that Sawyer had allegedly been involved in a domestic dispute with family members, while intoxicated, he is accused of pointing a rifle at multiple victims, that Sawyer had operated an ATV on a public roadway while intoxicated Sawyer was charged with 4 counts of Menacing, plus 1 count each of Reckless Endangerment, Endangering the Welfare of a child and DWI, he was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office for processing.
The Delaware County District Attorney's Office announced that 20 year old Cristian Navarro Guerrero of Staten Island pleaded guilty In Delhi Town Court to 1 count of Criminal Mischief for an incident On April 15, where SUNY Delhi University Police received a report of a broken window at the first-floor entrance to Catskill Hall. After viewing security camera footage, Navarro Guerrero was identified and arrested without incident, he was placed on 1 year of interim probation. Sentencing was adjourned for one year to see how the Navarro- Guerrero performs on probation.

47 year old Eric Rossman of Stamford appeared in the Town of Harpersfield Court Monday & pleaded guilty to 1 count of Criminal Possession of Stolen Property and 1 count of Conspiracy. In August of 2025, State Police received a report of stolen tools, at a residence located on Wood Road in Jefferson, it was determined that the stolen tools had previously been moved from a house in Harpersfield. Rossman admitted that he did not originally know that the tools were stolen, as he had put his initials on many of them, Once he was aware that they were stolen, he and one co-defendant moved to evade law enforcement. Rossman was sentenced to 1 year of incarceration to be followed by a one-year conditional discharge.
Former Delaware County Deputy Timothy Tryon pleaded guilty to 2 counts of Petty larceny, for stealing items from the Oneonta Walmart. Tryon was convicted June 18th in Oneonta Town Court, He was fined $500, ordered to pay restitution, and is no longer employed by the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office.

NYSEG reported a high of over 14,400 customers without power across the western Counties of the state, following strong thunderstorms earlier today, crews have been working to restore power as soon as possible, much of the area was also under a Tornado watch, which expired at 3:00 PM, only about 250 NYSEG customers lost power in the Tri-County region.

State DOT announced today that starting on June 29th, they will be replacing a culvert, leading to Route 23 west of Ashcraft Road, the project is expected to take about 6 weeks, a detour will lead traffic onto County Road 10, County Road 10A and State Route 12 through Pharsalia, Preston and Norwich. Drivers are encouraged to use caution and give themselves ample time in their commutes.

41 year old Alex Scrivani of Claryville pleaded guilty to Criminal Mischief in Delaware County Court On May 11, a deputy was flagged down by multiple individuals reporting a male that was pulling on door handles of multiple residences and going into a local business, the Deputy located Scrivani, who was uncooperative, it was determined that Scrivani went into a building and damaged a screen door, he was remanded to the Delaware County Correctional Facility pending sentencing on June 30th.

Both were charged with 1st degree Assault both were arraigned in Binghamton City Court and remanded to the custody of the Broome County Correctional Facility, anyone with information is asked to contact the Binghamton Police Detective Bureau by phone at 607-772-7080.

44 year old Richard Robinson of Holland Patent pleaded guilty to Attempted Promoting Prison Contraband in Delaware County Court Tuesday. Robinson was an inmate at the Delaware County Correctional Facility on April 17th, he had 2 small plastic bags with a white powdery residue in a brown paper bag, the substance tested positive for methamphetamine. The case was presented to the Delaware County Grand Jury, Robinson was indicted for Promoting Prison Contraband & Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, sentencing will be on August 25th, Robinson is expected to be sentenced to 1.5 to 3 years in jail.
Walton Police arrested former Walton Teacher Eric Scofield who allegedly violated an Order of Protection by being on school property. Scofield was located on the property of the Walton High School, Scofield was charged with 4 counts of Criminal Contempt, he was arraigned & was being held at the Delaware County Correctional Facility on $50,000 cash bail or $100,000 bond. Scofield was ordered to stay away from the district after an investigation for engaging in improper communications with students.

The 11 defendants involved in an organization distributing large quantities of methamphetamine, cocaine, heroin and other drugs primarily from 2019 to 2021 through Broome, Tioga and Chemung Counties, they also unlawfully possessed firearms as felons or in furtherance of their drug trafficking. Law enforcement seized methamphetamine, & other drugs, over 65 firearms, cash and ATVs. Among those convicted 55 year old David Wemmer, 37 year old David Cobb & 50 year old Brandon Vanorman, all from Spencer, 38 year old Shawn McCabe of Windsor, 39 year old Philip Acciarito of Owego, , 44 year old Jennifer Patton of Spencer & 39 year old Eini Raupers of Candor.

Governor Kathy Hochul announced the award of $6 million in funding through the Innovative Mobility Initiative, which provides funds to transit organizations to expand service offerings and support riders who face barriers to accessing traditional transit. Locations receiving funding include Broome County, they will receive $288,000 awarded to BC Transit to expand geographic coverage beyond the existing transit network.

On October 16th, 2024, The Sheriff's Office - Civil Division conducted an eviction in Masonville, During the eviction, Wildey refused to identify himself & gave Officers several false names. Wildey was charged with False Personation, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance and Obstruction of Governmental Administration. Wildey was processed and released on appearance tickets to reappear at the Masonville Town Court at a later date to answer the aforesaid charges. Wildey later failed to show up as directed, resulting in an arrest warrant being issued by the Masonville Town Court on February 4th, 2025. On June 2nd, 2026, Wildey turned himself into the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office where he was subsequently arraigned and was released on his own recognizance to reappear in the Masonville Town Court at a later date.

40 year old Michael Salamey of Frankfort appeared in Delaware County Court and was sentenced to 2 to 6 years in state prison after he pleaded guilty to 3rd Degree Grand Larceny. Salamey entered into a contract to improve property in the Town of Roxbury, the owner paid him over $360,000 to perform a number of projects, that were not fully completed. Salamey failed to return calls from the owner, he was indicted by the Delaware County Grand Jury for 2 counts of degree Grand Larceny in 2023, after pleading guilty, Salamey remained at large pending sentencing, State Police located Salamey & arrested him on a warrant, and was sentenced last month.
No Arrests have been reported regarding the theft of nameplates at the Sidney Veterans Memorial Park. Assemblyman Joe Angelino has offered a $1,000 rewards, those who want to donate to defer the cost of replacement, there is a donate link on the web page, SVMPA.org.

After 11 days, operations at Broome County Correctional Facility have largely returned to normal, Over 120 IV hydration treatments were conducted, 10 individuals were hospitalized, 8 have returned from the hospital, with 2 still receiving treatment. Broome County Health Department showed a positive result for Salmonella in sample of a chicken salad meal served on May 24th, no other meals have tested positive. The Health Department identified multiple violations related to food preparation and storage that could have led to the outbreak. Several of the violations identified are repeat violations that have previously been cited to the food vendor, particularly those involving the cooling of food, The Health Department found no issues with water quality at the Correctional Facility.

Delaware County sheriff's Office arrested 33 year old Logan Coss of Grand Gorge for Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated, Driving While Intoxicated and Obstructing Firefighter Operations. On May 25th, Deputies responded to assist the Grand Gorge Fire Department and Town of Roxbury Constable at the scene of a vehicle fire, Coss is accused of attempting to obstruct fire fighters and police who were on scene. Coss was released on appearance tickets for Town of Roxbury Court at a later date.

Delaware County has been contracting with Delaware Opportunities, to provide nutrition services to Delaware County residents 60 years or older and their spouses. Thursday Night, Delaware Opportunities ceased all operations of senior meals effective immediately. The Delaware County Office for the Aging took over today. Delaware County officials will move forward with the plan to take senior meals service in house rather than waiting until 2027. Delaware County Office for the Aging will be operating these services, and no seniors will be left without meals or services they receive.

The Otsego County Sheriff's Office announce that a new labor agreement has been reached with Corrections Union, the Otsego County Board of Representatives approved a new contract for the men and women of the Otsego County Sheriff’s Office Corrections Division, making the Sheriff’s Office comparable to surrounding County agencies.
The Otsego County Solid Waste Department will host the 21st Earth Festival event from 10 am. to 3 pm. Saturday, at SUNY Oneonta, in the Chase Auditorium. State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli reported today that despite median household incomes increasing in every New York County from 2019-2024, they did not keep pace with the cost of living when adjusting for the 23.1% inflation during that time period. The analysis shows that the inflation adjusted median household income increased by $1,688, or 2%, from 2019 to 2024, in 23 of the state’s 62 counties, real median household income decreased. Locally, 3 of the 10 largest percentage decreases in real household incomes were found in the Southern Tier Counties.

The 4 juveniles were previously charged with Attempted Murder in the 2nd degree, the charges have been amended to 2nd degree Murder, they are housed at a juvenile detention facility and are scheduled to appear in Broome County Court at a later date to be arraigned on the new charge. Additionally, the 13-year-old suspect was located and arrested at an address in Whitney Point, and has also been charged with 2nd degree Murder and was also sent to a juvenile detention facility in Syracuse, New York. 33 year old Stephen Pudiak of Port Crane was sentenced in Broome County Court to 14 years in State Prison followed by 13 years of Post-Release Supervision for his conviction on 1st Degree Rape, An additional concurrent sentence of 7 years in State Prison and 10 years of Post-Release Supervision was imposed for his conviction on Sexual Abuse, Pudiak will also have to register as a sex offender. Pudiak was convicted on February 6, after a jury trial on the Rape in the First Degree and Sexual Abuse in the First Degree charges. The convictions stem from an incident in which Pudiak engaged in non-consensual sexual acts upon a physically helpless victim. Pudiak was previously convicted and sentenced in April 2024, on the Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Third Degree charge, stemming from a separate incident in which he held a firearm to the victim's head.
State Police arrested 42 year old Dale Chapman of Endicott for multiple drug related offenses after a Trooper observed Chapman conduct a narcotics sale Sunday. Chapman was charged multiple counts of Criminal Sale of a Controlled Substance, plus Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Criminal Sale of Controlled Substance plus several related charges, Police seized cocaine, Crack Cocaine Psychedelic Mushrooms, plus packaging material, scales, & cash from suspected drug sales, Chapman was processed then turned over to the Broome County Jail for Centralized Arraignment.
The Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 24 year old Alexander Woeppel of Cooperstown, for Criminal Mischief, DWI, reckless Driving and numerous related charges following an investigation into a motor vehicle accident in the Town of Milford. Woeppel was located at the scene and was found to be Intoxicated, he initially crashed into a parked vehicle, then into a private garage, he was released on appearance Tickets for town of Milford court at a later date.
Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 55 year old Donald Lane for Resisting Arrest, Obstructing Governmental Administration, Bail Jumping as well as on 2 Warrants, Lane was located by a Deputy in Oneonta, he had failed to appear in court for sentencing on previous felony charges, he failed to comply with verbal commands and attempted to flee on foot, he was apprehended & physically resisted arrest. Lane was then turned over to the Otsego County Correctional Facility to await arraignment, he was remanded to the Otsego County Correctional facility without bail.
Norwich City Police arrested 21 year old Brayden Pollock of Plymouth along with a Juvenile, in connection to the damage at Angelino Fields on Borden Avenue on May 2nd. Norwich Police determine that both individuals came in separate vehicles & damaged property, amounting to about $2,500 in damages. Both were charged with Criminal Mischief, Pollock was issued an appearance ticket for Norwich City Court, the juvenile was ordered to return to Youth Court at a later date.

48 year old Jason Gray of Bainbridge, pleaded guilty to Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance for possessing Fentanyl with intent to sell. Gray also pleaded guilty to Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs, in Delaware County Court Tuesday. Gray admitted that he was found with Fentanyl during a traffic stop on West Main Street in the Village of Sidney on January 22nd & he was impaired by methamphetamine while driving, Gray will be sentenced to 5 years in state prison and 2 years of post-release supervision & his drivers license will also be revoked.
22 year old Jubilee Klimas of Walton pleaded guilty to Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance with intent to sell. Klimas admitted that she and her co-defendant Joseph Hahn had possessed 8-10 baggies containing methamphetamine when they were arrested in Walton on January 27, following a traffic stop, Hahn had a revoked license, a search of the vehicle led to the discovery of the baggies, plus scales, funnels, packaging material and other paraphernalia, sentencing for Klimas will be on July 1st.

32 year old Michael Fegley of Florida was sentenced in US District Court to 108 months’ imprisonment and 15 years’ supervised release for transporting child pornography and traveling with intent to engage in unlawful sexual activity with what he thought was a 13-year-old child. Fegley admitted that he traveled from Florida to upstate New York intending to engage in unlawful sexual conduct with a purported 13-year-old child. He also admitted that he brought with him about 1,000 images and videos depicting child pornography that he had obtained on the internet. Fegley was also ordered to pay $25,000 in restitution and various special assessments, and he will be required to register as a sex offender upon his release from prison.
Governor Kathy Hochul today announced the launch of a new, decade-long survey effort designed to assess gambling behaviors of New Yorkers and evaluate where additional problem gambling-related services and supports may be needed. New York Attorney General Letitia James is suing Coinbase and Gemini, 2 of the newest players in the prediction market industry, arguing that the companies' unregulated and unlicensed platforms are illegal gambling operations. By operating without licenses, the lawsuit says, Coinbase's and Gemini's prediction market businesses aren't paying the same taxes as licensed casinos and mobile sports-books, which are taxed by the state at a rate of approximately 51% of gross revenues. The lawsuit also claims that Coinbase and Gemini allow users as young as 18, the state law prohibits wagering by anyone under 21. The lawsuit seeks to bar the companies' platforms from operating in the state unless and until they obtain licenses from the state Gaming Commission.

State Troopers initiated a traffic stop Sunday on a vehicle for moving unsafely from its lane. Troopers observed a pill container in the vehicle driven by 43 year old Adam Morley of Deposit, the contents was later identified as oxycodone. Troopers also discovered methamphetamine and a pump action shotgun that had been reported stolen in South Carolina. Morley was charged with Criminal Possession of Stolen Property, 2 counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, and the passenger, 27 year old Taylor Fineout of Hancock, was found in possession of a 30-round illegal high-capacity ammunition magazine, as well as methamphetamine, he was charged with Unlawful Possession of an Ammunition Feeding Device, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Both individuals were processed and were released on appearance tickets for Deposit Town Court on May 4.

Delaware County Public Health is hosting free Climate and Health Workshops at the Delaware County Senior Dining Centers. Participants will learn how changes to the climate can impact their health and ways to prepare for emergencies. These workshops are free and open to residents 60 years and older. Each workshop will take place during the senior dining program lunch hour from 11:30 AM – 12:30 PM, each participant will receive a starter emergency preparedness kit. Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 54 year old Shelley Wilkerson of Worcester for Overdriving, torturing and injuring animals and failure to provide sustenance following an investigation into a report of an elderly Great Dane that was dying or deceased at Wilkerson's residence. Deputies found the Great Dane was located outside, the Investigation revealed that Wilkerson allegedly failed to provide proper veterinary care to the dog, which resulted in the dog's death. Wilkerson was arrested and was issued an Appearance Ticket to Town of Worcester Court at a later date.

Officers found him in the Town of Oneonta and arrested him without incident. He will be held at the Otsego County Correctional Facility until he is arraigned.

Fire Fighters from Edmeston responded Monday night to a trailer fire on County Route 17 at about 9:00 PM. All occupants escaped, but 2 dogs died in the fire, Fire Investigators are trying to determine the cause of the fire.

State Police arrested 34 year old Trent Burgess of Churchville Sunday for Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated with a Child as Passenger Less Than 16, also known as Leandra’s Law. A Trooper observed a vehicle on State Route 17 initiated a traffic stop, Burgess failed a field sobriety test, he had an 11 year old child in the vehicle, Burgess was processed and was released on appearance tickets to the Sanford Town Court on May 5.
State Police arrested 54 year old Sherry Ashmore of Laurens for felony Grand Larceny, following a report from the Oneonta Walmart Sunday. Ashmore is accused of taking over $1,000 worth of merchandise out of the store without payment, Walmart employees attempted to stop Ashmore but she fled on foot. Troopers located Ashmore in Burger King and she was arrested, was processed and was released on an appearance ticket to the Oneonta Town Court on May 19, 2026.

State Police arrested 42 year old Michael Holbert of Bainbridge for Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated with a Child Passenger Less Than 16, also known as Leandra’s Law. A Trooper was dispatched to State Route 17/Interstate 86 for a report of a motor vehicle collision, a 2002 Volkswagen struck a guardrail causing the vehicle to become disabled partially in the roadway. Holbert told the Trooper that he and a 4-year-old passenger were not injured, Holbert failed Field Sobriety Tests, he was arrested and his BAC was .15%, he was was processed and issued appearance tickets.
Broome County Sheriff's Office arrested 25 year old Samuel Harris of Tennessee is facing 2 counts of 3rd degree Rape, plus Child Endangerment, for allegedly traveling from Tennessee to engage in sexual acts with a 15-year-old female he met on TikTok. On Sunday, Deputies responded to the Hillside Inn & Suites in the Town of Dickinson. Harris was arraigned & was remanded to the Broome County Sheriff’s Correctional Facility. An Order of Protection was filed on behalf of the victim.

Governor Kathy Hochul today announced $250 million to help communities afford water and sewer infrastructure improvements. The Environmental Facilities Corporation Board of Directors approved financing and State and federal grants for a number of local governments to access for crucial upgrades. Locally, Funding was approved for the Village of Bainbridge, they will receive $7.5 million in State grants and low-cost financing for the replacement of approximately 13,000 linear feet of water main and waterlines plus the replacement of Well No. 1 and backup power installation for Wells 1 and 3. The Town of Hancock, will receive $3 million in federal grant and interest-free financing for the creation of the Fishs Eddy Water System.

Deputies were dispatched to State Route 10 near the County Solid Waste Management Facility in the Town of Walton. Lorusso drove off the roadway and over an embankment, crashing into the State DOT perimeter fencing, causing her vehicle to become stuck, she was charged with Driving While Intoxicated and Moving from Lane Unsafely. Lorusso was released on summonses, directing her to appear in the Town of Walton Court at a later date, to answer the charges. Additionally, on the morning of February 20th, Deputies were notified of additional damage at the Solid Waste Facility front gate from Lorusso’s vehicle, she was charged with Leaving the Scene of a Property Damage Accident.

The State Girl's Wrestling Tournament was held at the MVP Arena in Albany Thursday, Sidney High School Sophomore Bella Phelps took 1st Place Honors in the 114 pound weight class, beating her opponent 11 to 1 in the Championship Match. Sophomore Wrestler Cadence Guy of the Walton Delhi Team finished in 4th place in the 100 pound weight class. The 2 Day Boys State Wrestling Tournament begins today in Albany.

Arrested were 30 year old Joseph Hahm, on 2 counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance and 22 year old Jubilee Klimas for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, both face court action on the charges shortly.

Samear Wallace, Johnathan Ayala, Isaiah Johnson, and Jahliek Walker-Coates, were charged with a total of 11 felony weapons charges following an investigation into gunshots fired in the Town of Dickinson, they were found to be in possession of 4 loaded ghost guns, one stolen and loaded handgun and six high-capacity ammunition feeding devices, including a 50-round drum magazine.

Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies investigated a trespassing complaint earlier this month, they interviewed the victim who accused 40-year-old Kristen Rice of Hancock had entered and remained in the dwelling of another person despite being asked, and that Rice subjected another person to unwanted physical contact. Deputies arrested Rice for Criminal Trespass and Harassment, Deputies transported Rice to the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office for processing, she was turned over to the Delaware County Correctional Facility & was held for arraignment.

Deputies were notified that Wedderspoon was no longer living at his registered address, he is a Level 1 Sex Offender, he had been living at a residence in the Town of Otego and failed to make proper notifications of his address change, he was taken into custody and processed at the Sheriff’s Office, he was released with an appearance ticket and is set to appear in the Town of Morris Court at a later date.

Lupo allegedly possessed contraband while incarcerated at the Delaware County Correctional Facility on pre-existing charges. Lupo was arraigned and was remanded back to the custody of the Delaware County Correctional Facility on the charges that led to his initial incarceration.
Oneonta Fire Department responded to a fire at 57 Maple Street Saturday morning, 1st floor residents and visitors were able to leave the house safely, the 2nd floor apartments were under construction, the 1st floor apartment suffered water damage from fire operations, The cause of the fire has not yet been determined, Mutual aid was provided by Otego, West Oneonta and Franklin fire departments. no injuries were reported.

The CHENANGO COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE arrested 42 year old Jamie Button of the Town of Plymouth for Obstruction of Governmental Administration. During an investigation of an unrelated incident on December 27th, 2025, Button provided deputies with false information into the whereabouts of a wanted subject in order to prevent the apprehension of the subject. Button was taken into custody without incident, was processed and released on an appearance ticket for the Town of Otselic Court at a later date. The Obstruction charge is punishable by up to one year in jail or three years' probation, and a $1,000 fine.

44 year old James McNeilly of Endicott, was sentenced in Broome County Court to a State Prison term of 3 to 6 years, he was sentenced as a second time felony offender based upon his prior conviction for Attempted Strangulation in 2016. The present conviction stems from an incident that occurred on July 21, 2025 where McNeilly attempted to enter the Broome County Department of Social Services building in the City of Binghamton with a metal knuckle knife. During the screening process by Broome County Security Officers, McNeilly placed an item into the screening bin.

Following an investigation, Harris was accused of causing serious physical injury to the victim, he was taken into custody without incident, he was charged with 2nd degree Assault & was arraigned and remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility. He is scheduled to appear in the Town of Norwich Court at a later date.
State Police at Homer responded On November 25, 2025, to a report of a deceased woman in the town of Cortlandville. The woman was identified as 59 year old Robin Bowman of Findlay, Ohio, Police have now determined that she had been living in her vehicle in the Cortlandville area prior to being located, the autopsy revealed that Bowman’s cause of death was exposure to the elements, causing hypothermia.
60 year old Allen Hurt of Endwell, pleaded guilty to Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in Broome County Court for possessing narcotics with intent to sell in Broome County Court. As part of the plea, Hurt will be sentenced as a 2nd time felony drug offender to 7 years in State prison, followed by 3 years of post-release supervision. On January 2, 2025, investigators executed a narcotics Search Warrant at Hurt's residence, Police seized crack cocaine, cutting agents, packaging materials, a digital scale, and $1,159 in U.S. currency.
Voters in the 16 component districts of DCMO BOCES have approved a $44.4 million capital project. Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 30-year-old Daniel Roe of Davenport, who is accused of subjecting a juvenile to sexual contact in May 2024. Roe was also alleged to have subjected another juvenile to inappropriate sexual conversations during the same time frame. Investigators arrested Roe on 2 counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child, 1 count of Forcible Touching, 1 count of Sexual Abuse, Roe was arraigned & Orders of Protection were issued for the victims. Roe was later released on his own recognizance and was directed to appear at the Town of Davenport Court at a later date to answer the charges.

Delaware County Sheriff's Office arrested 35 year old Shane Tweedie of Walton following an investigation into a stolen vehicle complaint reported in the Town of Bovina and was later located in the Village of Walton. Tweedie was located by deputies in the Village of Walton and he was charged with Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle, Grand Larceny, Burglary, Criminal Contempt & Criminal Trespass, Tweedie was transported to the Delaware County Correctional Facility to await Centralized Arraignment Court.
City of Oneonta announced that crews will be installing new Rapid Flashing Beacons at crosswalks at the new roundabout project. Motorists should expect temporary lane closures at various times over the next two weeks, at Main Street East, Lettis Highway South, Main Street West through the roundabout and at Pine Street.

The Sheriff’s Office executed a search warrant Tuesday in the Town of Smyrna, they seized 1 pound of methamphetamine packaged for distribution & cash from suspected drug sales. Heady was taken into custody at the scene & was charged with multiple Counts of 2nd & 3rd Degree Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, plus Tampering with Physical Evidence, He was arraigned and remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility.

The $30 million philanthropic gift from a group of donors led by Tom Secunda, who is a Binghamton University alumnus and co-founder of Bloomberg LP. The Gift is coupled with a $25 million research capital investment from SUNY.

The City of Norwich Police Department arrested 28 year old Elijah Joyce of Norwich following an investigation, with assistance from the Chenango County Probation Department. Norwich Police Detectives developed intelligence that Joyce may have been in possession of an illegal firearm while on active probation. When members of the City of Norwich Police Department and Chenango County Probation tried to make contact with Joyce at a local business, he was brought to the ground rather swiftly and placed in handcuffs, Officers recovered a 9mm handgun with approximately 20 rounds of hollow-point ammunition loaded in the magazines, as well as metal knuckles. Joyce was remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility without bail, pending further court proceedings. The investigation remains ongoing, and additional criminal charges will be filed from the City of Norwich Police Department as a result of the incident.

The Otsego County Sheriff’s Office arrested 61 year old Cathleen Mann of Burlington for 2nd Degree Grand Larceny and 57 counts of Criminal Possession of a Forged Instrument, following an investigation into a complaint in the Town of Maryland, where Mann is accused of writing fraudulent checks and unauthorized use of a debit card for an amount greater than $50,000, she was held for centralized arraignment and an order of protect was issued for the victim.

Governor Kathy Hochul announced the re-opening of the State's Municipal Infrastructure Program Request for Applications, making up to $36 million available to support broadband infrastructure projects across the state through ConnectALL, which is the state’s broadband office. To date, the Municipal Infrastructure Program has funded $268 million to active projects in 24 counties that will build more than 2,300 miles of new fiber optic infrastructure and 68 new wireless hubs serving more than 96,000 homes and businesses around the state. Roettger fled the scene and responding deputies located a victim suffering from multiple stab wounds inside the residence, who was taken to Bassett Hospital, Roettger returned to the scene to turn himself in, he was taken into custody without incident. Investigators applied for and were granted a search warrant for the residence and the defendant’s vehicle where additional evidence was secured. The Otsego County District Attorney’s Office recommended that bail be set at $100,000 cash, Roettger was processed and lodged in the Otsego County Correctional Facility pending Arraignment. An order of protection was requested on behalf of the victim. The Otsego County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the New York State Police Forensic Investigation Unit.

State Police responded to a 2-vehicle crash on Interstate 88 in the town of Sidney Friday Afternoon. A tractor trailer and a pick-up truck were traveling west when they made contact, The pick-up truck continued off the roadway. The tractor trailer exited the roadway and turned on its side. The operator of the pick-up truck, a 77-year-old male sustained injuries and was transported to UHS Wilson Medical Center and is in stable condition. The operator of the tractor trailer, a 56-year-old male was transported to A.O Fox Hospital. Interstate 88 west was shut down to assist with the removal of the tractor trailer, Motorists were detoured at exit 10. Troopers were assisted by the New York State Department of Transportation with the closure. The investigation is on-going.
Delaware County Sheriff's office arrested 43 year old Martin Planty of Walton for Forcible Touching, & Harassment, following an investigation of unwanted sexual contact. Planty was processed and transported to the Delaware County Jail to await Centralized Arraignment as the victim requested an Order of Protection.
Broome County Sheriff's Office arrested 40 year old Mathew O'Neill of Windsor with Driving While Intoxicated following a motor vehicle accident involving a boat and a tow truck in the Town of Colesville. On January 5, Responding deputies found a Ford Expedition smashed under a boat, with the rear of the boat pressed directly against the structure of a residence. The investigation revealed that O'Neill's vehicle left the road way and struck the parked boat, which collided with a residence and a tow truck parked nearby. No injuries were reported.
