Broome County Sheriff’s Office and the Broome County Health Department provided the public with the latest update on the outbreak of Salmonella that hit the Broome County Correctional Facility. After 11 days, operations at Broome County Correctional Facility have largely returned to normal, Over 120 IV hydration treatments were conducted, 10 individuals were hospitalized, 8 have returned from the hospital, with 2 still receiving treatment. Broome County Health Department showed a positive result for Salmonella in sample of a chicken salad meal served on May 24th, no other meals have tested positive. The Health Department identified multiple violations related to food preparation and storage that could have led to the outbreak. Several of the violations identified are repeat violations that have previously been cited to the food vendor, particularly those involving the cooling of food, The Health Department found no issues with water quality at the Correctional Facility.

Delaware County sheriff's Office arrested 33 year old Logan Coss of Grand Gorge for Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated, Driving While Intoxicated and Obstructing Firefighter Operations. On May 25th, Deputies responded to assist the Grand Gorge Fire Department and Town of Roxbury Constable at the scene of a vehicle fire, Coss is accused of attempting to obstruct fire fighters and police who were on scene. Coss was released on appearance tickets for Town of Roxbury Court at a later date.

Delaware County Sheriff's Office arrested 46 year old Anthony Alessi of Walton for Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs, Criminal possession of a controlled substance, following a traffic stop at a check point in Town of Colchester, Alessi is accused of being impaired & was found to possess cocaine, he was processed and was released on appearance tickets for Town of Colchester Court at a later date.
Clear Path for Veterans IS A NON PROFIT ORGANIZATION helping out veterans with a variety of programs, Sean Sejersen is a Peer Mentor with Clear Path For Veterans, and a veteran himself, he told WCDO News about the program:

The State Legislature approved of another 7 day extension for the new State budget, it was passed today and will keep the State government running until April 14. The State budget was originally due April 1st, 2 extension have been put in place, the budget has been late for the last 5 years. Sticking points included school aid, car insurance reforms, adjustments to the state's climate laws and changes to Tier 6 pension rules.

27 year old Delos Thurston of Clinton, pleaded guilty on Tuesday in US District Court to money order fraud. Thurston admitted that between April 2025 and January 2026, while he was employed as the Postmaster of the Morrisville Post Office, he fraudulently issued 179 money orders for his own benefit without paying for them, in the amount of $118,088.19 from the United States. Thurston is scheduled for sentencing on August 6, he faces a maximum term of 5 years in prison, a fine of up to $250,000, and a term of supervised release of up to 3 years.
Delaware County Sheriff's Office arrested 33 year old Joseph Worzel of Deposit for DWI, Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs, Moving from a Lane Unsafely, Speed not Reasonable or Prudent, & Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, among various Traffic Violations, following a motor vehicle accident in the Town of Masonville. Last Saturday afternoon, Deputies responded to an accident with injuries on State Highway 8, where a vehicle left the road & hit a tree, Worzel was processed & was released on appearance tickets and traffic summonses and was directed to appear in the Town of Masonville Court at a later date.

People are reminded to contact the organization in question to verify the claims of the cold callers, if you believe you’ve been targeted or affected, report it immediately to your local authorities or the appropriate organization.

On December 10th, Colchester Police were assisting a disabled motor vehicle on State Highway 206 when a vehicle operated by 21-year-old Shmuel Neuhaus of Fallsburg, failed to reduce speed & was unable to avoid a collision, striking a vehicle that had slowed down in front of him, then struck the Colchester Police vehicle. Following the investigation, Deputies submitted documentation for an arrest warrant for Neuhaus, On April 3rd, Fallsburg Police Department took Neuhaus into custody, he was taken into custody by Delaware County Sheriff’s Office & was charged with Driving While Ability Impaired by Alcohol, Aggravated Unlicensed Operation, as well as several other charges, he was being held pending arraignment.

On April 2nd, Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies observed a vehicle on Division Street in Sidney, pulling out onto Main Street and cutting another vehicle off that was traveling on Main Street. Upon conducting a traffic stop, 66 year-old JeanMichel Letennier of Sidney, was found to have his driving privileges suspended, with a total of 28 suspensions, 26 in the State of New York. Letennier was charged with Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle, as well as a host of violations of the State Vehicle and Traffic Law. Letennier was processed and transported to the Delaware County Correctional Facility to await Arraignment.

Governor Hochul has been pushing for new laws to crack down on auto insurance fraudulent claims that have been driving up the price of New York insurance Policies above what drivers in other states are paying:

Hochul said that the State Florida implemented a series of reforms to crack down on insurance fraud, knocking down insurance costs by about 20% for their driver in the last 2 years, she is urging the legislature to pass similar laws by the end of this session in June.

Greater Opportunities of Broome and Chenango County has been awarded $9 million in grant funding for a new 20-unit residential housing project in Norwich. The development will be located at the former Flanagan Field on Plymouth Street, $8 million from the State Homes and Community Renewal Home-ARP and $1 million from a Chenango County Infrastructure Grant. The project calls for a 20-unit residential development that will be ADA compliant, Greater Opportunities will enter into a purchase agreement with the Norwich City School District to acquire the land after a survey is performed.
The Oneonta Town Board will hold a Public Hearing on April 8th regarding Plans to build an artificial intelligence data center at 359 County Road 9, which were put on hold following a 1 year moratorium on the project. Town Residents submitted a petition with over 700 signatures opposing the project by Eco-Yotta.
The State Cannabis Advisory Board and The State Office of Cannabis Management announced the launch of the second application round for the Community Reinvestment Program Grants, continuing New York's effort to reinvest adult-use cannabis tax revenue into communities disproportionately impacted by past federal and state drug policies. This grant opportunity has a minimum of $5 million to award and up to $15 million, Interested applicants can apply for the Community Reinvestment Grants at cannabis.ny.gov/reinvestment.

For the entire month of March The Delaware Valley Humane Society will be having a Can & Bottle drive where people are encouraged to drop off bags of redeemable cans & bottle at the shelter, pick ups can be arranged for those within 8 miles of our shelter with 10 or more bags to pick up, call the shelter to make arrangements at (607) 563-7780. The shelter will also accept dry dog food, canned dog and cat food, cleaning supplies, such as Fabulosa and bleach, and Clorox wipes.
Delaware County Public Health recommends that pet owners take advantage of any of the free remaining rabies clinics for dogs, cats and ferrets in Delaware County. The rabid raccoon exposed 2 dogs, There were no human exposures. Both dogs are up to date on their rabies vaccinations and received a booster. The average price of gasoline at the pump in New York has increased by almost 40 cents per gallon in the last week, reaching $3.36 per gallon, according to GasBuddy. Nationally, the average price of gasoline went up 51 cents per gallon, averaging $3.45 per gallon. GasBuddy attributes the spike in gas prices to the U.S. strikes on Iran and the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, they suspect that prices will continue to rise as long as the conflict is continuing.

This annual traffic safety enforcement period will begin on Monday, March 9, and run through Tuesday, March 17.? During last year's St. Patrick's Day impaired driving enforcement operation, officers statewide arrested 1,224 people for DWI, issued 10,314 tickets for speeding and issued 55,661 tickets in total.?

The manslaughter trial of former Marcy corrections officer Michael Fisher, ended today in Oneida County Court as Fisher has pleaded guilty to 2nd-degree reckless endangerment. Fisher was one of the corrections officers at Marcy Correctional facility accused in the death of inmate Robert Brook in December of 2024. Fisher faces sentencing on January 30th, where he is expected to receive a 6-month term in Oneida County Jail as part of the plea agreement.

Logan claimed to be an police officer with the Ellenville Police Department, Deputies found that it was a false claim, Logan was charged with criminal impersonation along with several traffic violations and he was released on an appearance ticket and uniform traffic tickets and is scheduled to appear in the Town of Colchester Court at a later date to answer the charges.
Chenango County Sheriff’s Office arrested 37 year old Thomas Brown of Norwich after Deputies responded to a business in the Town of Norwich for a larceny complaint. Brown allegedly stole items from the business and he had previously been trespassed from the business in the past, he also was found to be in possession of a controlled substance at the time of his arrest. Brown was charged with Burglary & Criminal Possession of a Controlled substance & was arraigned & he was released on his own recognizance.
Chenango County Sheriff's Office arrested 39 year old Ian Quinn of Norwich Wednesday for Burglary in the 2nd Degree, following an investigation into a burglary Tuesday in the Town of Norwich. Quinn is accused of unlawfully entering the victim’s dwelling and stealing property, Quinn was arrested and remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility pending arraignment in Chenango County Court.

Humphry was remanded to the Broome County Jail. She is scheduled to return to court on April 15, 2026, for sentencing, she faces a potential sentence ranging from 5 to 25 years in state prison.

State Police responded Thursday Afternoon at about 2:20 PM, to a report of a multi-vehicle crash on I-81 southbound, in the town of LaFayette. The preliminary investigation has determined that the primary crash involved approximately 18 vehicles, including three tractor-trailers. There were also a number of smaller crashes. It is estimated that a total of approximately 30 vehicles were involved in the crash, which is believed to be weather-related. 8 patients were transported to area Hospitals, 2 have serious, but not life-threatening injuries.
