Sidney’s Annual Arbor Day celebration will be held tomorrow morning with Sidney Central School Students participating in the ceremony, ending with a giveaway of saplings, Sidney Shade Tree Commission chairperson Lorrie Roach explains:

Roach said that a tree planting dedication will also be scheduled, this year in honor of Mike Gavin.

A Citizen Preparedness Training Event will be held today at 6:00 PM in Margaretville at the Town Hall, hosted by Delaware County Public Health, with representatives from the New York National Guard & The State Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services. This event is free and open to the public, Ziolkowski said that they are planning to do additional training events in Walton & Sidney as soon as possible.

Former Major League Manager Buck Showalter, who managed both the Yankees & the Mets, will be the was announced as the keynote speaker at the 10th Greater Binghamton Sports Hall of Fame Induction Class today, The Hall of Fame ceremony is set for April 28 at the Double Tree Hotel in Binghamton, starting at 6:30 this evening.

The Sidney Shade Tree Commission will host another Arbor Day Celebration on Tuesday April 29th in Keith Clark Park beginning at 10:00 AM, Commission Chairperson Lorrie Roach told WCDO News about the annual event:

The Delaware County Soil and Water Conservation District has also provided saplings to be distributed while the supply lasts.

18 year old Daziar Gadson of Binghamton was sentenced to 9 years in State Prison, followed by 5 years of post-release supervision, for attempted murder, for her role in a 2024 drive-by shooting. On August 3, 2024, Binghamton Police responded to reports of gunfire near Conklin Avenue and Felters Road. Investigators determined that Gadson shot a 19-year-old male while the victim was refueling his vehicle.

A.M. NEWS TUESDAY 4-21-25

State Police were dispatched Sunday Morning to a fatal motor vehicle crash on East Afton Road in the town of Bainbridge. An investigation at the scene determined that the 17-year-old female occupant was operating an SUV when she went off the roadway into an embankment, crossed a creek, striking several trees and coming to rest on the opposite side of the creek. The investigation is on-going.

The Sidney Center Improvement Group will hold a fundraising bake sale this Sunday at 11:00 AM.  The event will be held at the Fire Station Field at the corner of Routes 35 & 23 in Sidney Center

UHS Chenango Memorial Hospital is holding its first walk-in COVID-19 vaccine clinic today until 6:30 PM at the Awestruck Tap Room in the Sidney Industrial Park.  Today will be a 1st dose Moderna vaccine clinic; it will be followed up with a 2nd shot clinic for today's participants on Thursday May 27th, also at Awestruck in Sidney.  Walk-ins are welcome, anyone wishing to schedule a specific time can call Awestruck at 232-1143.

A.M. NEWS FRIDAY 4-30-21

State Troopers & local fire Departments responded to a bus fire in the northbound lanes on I-81 Thursday.  42 people were on the bus, 4 were injured; 1 person transported to Wilson Hospital for burns, 2 were taken to Binghamton General for smoke inhalation and 1 person was treated at scene.  Both northbound lanes were shut down for several hours just north of exit 7 Castle Creek, the highway was fully re-opened at about 6:20 PM.

The Village of Sidney’s annual Arbor Day tree planting ceremony will be held this afternoon at 1:00PM at Keith Clark Park. A Sugar Maple tree will be planted, the Sidney Shade Tree Commission has conducted the Arbor Day tree planting tradition since 1994 & Sidney has been designated as a “Tree City USA” community for 24 years.

Delaware County Public Health will be conducting a first dose Moderna COVID-19 vaccination clinic on Thursday May 6th, at 97 Main Street in Delhi.  This vaccination clinic is open to all New York state residents or people who work in New York State over the age of 18.  Registration is mandatory at apps2.health.ny.gov, more information or assistance getting registered is available by calling Delaware County Public Health at 832-5200. Delaware County Public Health reported 8 new COVID cases Thursday, out of 585 tests, they are down to 70 active cases, 6 hospitalized & 152 quarantined.

State Health Commissioner Dr. Howard Zucker announced that the state will move forward with using the 1 dose Johnson & Johnson COVID vaccine. The vaccines were re-examined after 8 women out of 8 Million doses developed blood clots, with 1 death reported.

Sidney Town Supervisor Gene Pigford is calling a special public hearing regarding zoning laws. The public hearing will be on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at the Town Hall Building located at 44 Grand Street, Sidney.

McClancy Family that lost their possessions in a fire on East Main Street in

An American Red Cross Blood Drive is being held in Sidney
today, at the AO Fox Hospital Tri Town Campus in Sidney in Conference Room

The Public is invited to attend this year's Sidney’s Arbor
Day Celebration on Friday, April 26th, at the Pavilion at Keith Clark Park on
River Street beginning at 10:00 am.
Music will be provided by the Sidney Elementary Band under the direction
of Amy Hoxie followed by a brief welcome address by Lorrie Roach, Chairperson
of Sidney’s Shade Tree Commission.   The
Tree City Recognition Award and Tree City USA flag recognizing Sidney as a Tree
City for the 23rd Year will be accepted by Mayor Andy Matviak.

"Friendly's Restaurants" announced
that they have closed 14 upstate New York restaurants.  Several Broome County locations closed, their
Oneonta location at 377 Main Street is expected to close shortly, and other
locations that are closing are located in Syracuse, Rochester, and Oswego.  The Friendly’s at 561 Harry L Drive in
Johnson will remain open.

State Troopers arrested 21-year-old Kayla Vanderpool from
Adams for Driving while ability impaired by drugs, plus 14 other traffic
citations Thursday after a pursuit through multiple jurisdictions.  State Police were dispatched to a 911 call reporting
a wrong-way driver traveling west in the eastbound lanes of State Route 17 in
the city of Binghamton.   Vanderpool
continued through Vestal, she hit another vehicle, & the pursuit came to a
conclusion in Owego where Vanderpool struck a patrol vehicle and was taken into
custody.  Vanderpool was taken to
Binghamton General Hospital for minor injuries.
The investigation is still on-going.

The City of Oneonta's annual Arbor Day event will include the ceremonial planting of a birch tree, the event begins at Swart-Wilcox Historic Park, Wilcox Avenue at 10:00 am today, the event is open to the public.

The Sidney Central School Observatory will be open tonight, from 8:30-9:30PM. The featured attractions will be the waxing gibbous Moon, and rising Jupiter in the eastern sky. Several telescopes are available for viewing, including the main scope inside the dome. This event is open to the public, and admission is free. This session will be run by Sidney High faculty and students. The Observatory is located behind the high school building.

The Sidney Police Department will be taking part in the National Drug Take Back event Saturday, Chief Jan Gorshack explains:

The event is held every year nationwide to remove expired unwanted and potentially dangerous medications out of people's homes, and also out of the waste stream when they can seep into aquifers & waterways, tainting water supplies.
