The anti-bullying "Sweethearts & Heroes" presentation with professional MMA fighter and Ultimate Fighting Championship veteran Tom Murphy will be presented to Oxford Academy Middle school students Wednesday. Area Resident Gene Schmidt is coordinating the 3rd Christmas Community Dinner on Christmas Day at the Sacred Heart Parish Center on Liberty Street in Sidney, for anyone interested. Schmidt said that so need volunteers & donations:

Binghamton Fire Investigators have determined that it was a cigarette that caused the fire on the roof of the East Middle School in Binghamton on July 23rd. 8 workers were trapped but not injured by the fire, several classrooms below sustained damage. The Binghamton Fire Department was able to extinguish the fire in about an hour, as well as remove the roofers who had no other way down. No injuries were reported.
Delaware County Public Health and The Village of Sidney Police will be providing a Car Seat Safety Event at the Sidney McDonalds tomorrow from 10:00 AM to 12:00 Noon. 73% of car seats are used or installed incorrectly; Nationally certified child passenger safety technicians will be there to show how to correctly install and use a child’s safety or booster seat. There is no fee, for this service, participants should bring the vehicle owner’s manual and car seat manual to the event. More information is available at 832-5200.

Roofing materials caught fire at the East Middle School in Binghamton yesterday afternoon. The building was having roof work done, none of the workers were injured, the fire was knocked down in about an hour, and a structural engineer will inspect the roof as soon as possible.

The Matthews Auto Group held a ribbon cutting at the Grand Re-Opening of the newly remodeled Matthews Ford dealership and the Grand Opening of the new Quick Lane in Norwich this morning. The family of Former Tri-Town News Publisher, Ken Paden announced that a celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, June 6th at 1:00 PM at the Sidney American Legion at 22 Union Street. A memorial donation may be made to Ken’s family toward a plaque in his name at the Sidney Veterans Memorial Park, they can be sent to C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, P.O. Box 2086, Sidney, 13838. Paden passed away unexpectedly on Monday, May 25th he will be laid to rest in Albany Rural Cemetery.
The Broome County Sheriff’s Office responded to a 2 vehciel accident at about 8:50 this monring between a minivan & a Harpursville School bus on Smith Hill Road in the town of Chenango. 17 year old Katarina Stockton of Conklin lost control of her minivan on a curve and hit the Harpursville school bus head on. Cindy Wilcox of Harpursville was operating the school bus, with 12 students on board, she steered the bus into a ditch to try to avoid the collision. Wilcox was transported to Lourdes Hospital in Binghamton with neck & back pain, Stockton suffered minor injuries and was taken to Wilson Hospital, none of the students were injured. Stockton was ticketed for failure to reduce speed under wet conditions & driving left of pavement markings, she is due to appear in the Town of Chenango Court at a later date.

Officials from Tennessee Gas are holding open house meetings regarding a 2nd pipeline project through the southern tier. A meeting will be held tonight at the Sidney Middle School Gym from 6:00 to 8:00 PM, followed by a meeting Thursday night at the Deposit High School at the same times.

Several of the dancers with the Kennedy performing arts center of Sidney will be performing a dance routine at Madison square garden this weekend at a New York knicks basketball game. Nikki Reed of the Kennedy performing arts center explains:
