Sidney Village Police department arrested 6 people following a lengthy narcotics investigation. Charged were 37-year-old Richard Swislosky of Sidney, 30-year-old Stacey Dibble of Bainbridge, 56-year-old Bradley Winner of Mount Upton, 44-year-old Louella Schoener & 31 year old Rebecca Schoener of Greene and Mary Cutting of Unadilla on a variety of drug charges. All were arraigned in Delaware county court & were remanded to the Delaware county jail without bail pending future court action.

Legislation was introduced in the state Senate that would prohibit smoking at school bus stops. The bill would prohibit smoking within 15 feet of a designated school bus stop, during the morning and afternoon hours, when children are picked up and dropped off from school. The American Academy of Pediatrics has found that 2nd hand smoke increases the likelihood of smoking-related illnesses.

Cornell Cooperative Extension will sponsor three Farmers’ Markets in 2014, one in Walton, one in Sidney and one in Deposit. The Deposit Farmers Market Will be on August 21st & September 18th from 10:00am-2:00pm. The Sidney Farmers Market will be Every Tuesday, between July 1st and September 30th from 10:00am-2:00pm, and the Walton Farmers Market will be held on the 1st & 3rd Wednesdays from July 2 through October 15, from 10:00am-2:00pm. The Sidney Middle School Student Council held a food drive January 27th through February 7th; they collected more than 1,836 cans of food. Proceeds went to the Sidney Food Bank.
