State Police at Endwell arrested 32 year old James Kvassay of the town of Union on Sunday, for the felony 3rd degree Arson. Troopers were dispatched to assist with a house fire on Foster Street in the town of Union, their investigation revealed that Kvassay allegedly intentionally set the residence on fire, he was arrested & was transported to Broome County Central Arraignment and Processing.
New York Attorney General Letitia James today announced an agreement with the Price Chopper & Tops Friendly Market supermarket chains, where they will divest themselves of 12 stores located around the state, in connection with the companies' proposed merger, in order to promote competition & keep groceries prices from going up even more than they have been. The agreement resolves an 8-month investigation that the Office of the Attorney General conducted with the Federal Trade Commission, it will continue to keep union jobs in the stores. Price Chopper and Tops have closed on the merger the 2 companies today, The stores will keep their names and management but will be owned by a new parent company called Northeast Grocery. C&S Wholesale Grocers agreed to purchase the divested stores, including the Tops location in Cooperstown.

Operation Merry Christmas has placed more of their Christmas Trees in Area businesses, where people can take a tag off of the tree and return with the item requested on the tag. Program Spokesperson Dorene Ireland said that last year was one of the busiest years in the program's history:

Assemblyman Joseph Angelino, former Assemblyman Cliff Crouch, and others will be unveiling the newly-named "Colchester Veterans Memorial Bridge" today at 1:00 PM. The ceremony will be held at the James S. Moore Post 167, 4466 River Road in Downsville in the parking lot. Legislation was passed last year by Crouch in honor of the fallen veterans who sacrificed their lives in the line of duty.
Delaware County Public Health reported another death from COVID 19 in their latest report, covering Saturday through Monday, they have had 65 deaths since the start of the pandemic. Delaware County had 76 new cases, for a positivity rate of 6.8.%, they increased to 196 active cases, 12 hospitalized and 220 quarantined.

On Saturday, The Bainbridge American Legion will host a “9/11 Day of Remembrance” Chicken BBQ at the Bainbridge Family Dollar Store starting at 10:30 AM.  Legion Post 806 is dedicating this BBQ to honor the 20th Anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks against our country and to remember all those who died that day, & also honors the sacrifices of those who served in the military fight over the past 20 years.
Otsego County Relay for Life & the village of Milford are teaming up for "Celebrating Our Heroes" on Saturday September 11th.  Festivities begin at 4:30 PM with a parade from the Milford central School to Wilber Park, where there will be activities for children and guest speakers Jim Seward, State Senator Peter Oberacker & Assemblyman John Salka.
In commemoration of the 20th anniversary of the September 11th, 2001 attacks, the Albany Stratton VA Medical Center will hold a commemoration Saturday, September 11, at 8:45 AM at their All Faith Chapel to honor the lives lost and those lives that were changed by the tragic events. Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies were dispatched to a 1 car motor vehicle accident Thursday on State Highway 23 in the Town of Davenport, near the intersection of Brick House Hill Road.  The investigation determined that a 13-year-old passenger sustained a serious head injury from the accident & LifeNet airlifted the teen to Albany Medical Center.  The driver 35 year-old Robert Smith of Davenport sustained minor injuries and was treated at the scene.   Deputies learned that Smith fell asleep at the wheel, the car travelled across the on-coming lane of traffic and ran off the roadway where it struck a tree, Smith was charged with operating a motor vehicle with a suspended registration, moving from a lane unsafely, failure to keep right, he will appear in the Town of Davenport Court at a later date.
Plans will be in the works shortly, as Unadilla House Owner Gus Hatzidakis & Unadilla Mayor Jack Insinga will work together to try to get funding to rebuild & restore the long time Unadilla Centerpiece, Mayor Insinga said that he discussed it with Hatzidakis today & told WCDO what they expect to do next:

Insinga said that the Unadilla House had become problematic with squatters and drug users damaging the property in recent years, the squatters have left and they are now hoping to turn that around, re-open the business & fix the apartments.

Delaware County Public Health announced that a 53rd death from COVID 19 complications, they have had 100 new positive cases in the last week, there are 118 active cases, 4 hospitalized and 170 are quarantined.  The CDC & Delaware County Public Health recommends everyone should wear a mask indoors in public places.  Vaccine clinic sites at can be found at covid19vaccine.health.ny.gov.  Currently, 49.4% of the Delaware County population is vaccinated, 77% of the positive cases are unvaccinated, 23% of the positive cases are vaccinated & 2.5% of positive cases are college students/employees.
The Sidney Rotary Club & the Cullman Child Development Center will hold a "Family of Heroes" Event for area Children on Sunday at the Sidney Veteran's Memorial Park, according to spokesman Larry Halbert:

The 2021 Sidney Veteran’s Memorial Park Fundraising Golf Tournament will be held at the Sidney Golf & Country Club Saturday, organizer Tom Ruff told WCDO News that there is work to be done at the Park this year with the money raised:

Officials announced the new name of the former NYSEG Stadium on Henry Street in Binghamton to Mirabito Stadium today. Bayne said that NYSEG will continue to support Binghamton Rumble Ponies Baseball in a variety of ways behind the scenes, but from now on, the home of the Binghamton Rumble Ponies will be called "Mirabito Stadium."
State Police and local law enforcement statewide will increase patrols to combat drunk, impaired, and reckless driving throughout Memorial Day weekend. The enforcement period started today and runs through Tuesday, June 1st. Memorial Day is one of the busiest travel holidays of the year and Drivers can expect to see sobriety checkpoints and increased patrols by State Police and local law enforcement agencies. Last year, Police issued over 8,000 Tickets over the Memorial Day Holiday Weekend.
The Annual Re-dedication Ceremony will be held at the Sidney Veterans Memorial Park on River Street, tomorrow at 11:00 AM. There is a new section to the wall, Visitors are advised to bring their own chairs & Masks will be required and social distancing should be maintained.
On Saturday, The Rolling Antiquers will be holding a free vintage car cruise-in at East Park in Norwich, from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM. East Park Place Street will be cordoned off, with the capacity to hold 40 cars, cars will be rotated throughout the day, COVID guidelines will be followed.

Temporary lane closures for road and bridge construction projects on State highways will be suspended until Tuesday, to ease travel throughout Memorial Day weekend. Road work may continue behind permanent concrete barriers or for emergency repairs. Motorists are also urged to abide by New York's Move Over Law and to utilize the 64 text stops located statewide for texting, making phone calls, and other non-driving tasks.
This year’s Bainbridge Memorial Day Parade will take place on Monday @ 10:30 am. Parade organizers said that anyone is welcome to participate, participants will be lining up on Pruyn Street near Payne’s Cranes, before 10:00 am. Sidney Superintendent of Public Works Brandon McEwen announced that they have shut the water off this morning on West Main Street between Sunset & Pearl Street, due to a water leak; the water is expected to be turned back on at around 11:30 this morning.
