Chenango County Sheriff's office arrested 31-year-old Andrew Gould of Sherburne for 3rd degree Assault, following an altercation with a Town of Sherburne. Gould is scheduled to appear in the Town of Sherburne court at a later date.
The American Red Cross encourages eligible donors to give blood to help ensure a sufficient blood supply throughout the holiday season. Oneonta Police Detectives arrested 24-year-old Montaville Richardson of Oneonta on charges of 1st degree rape, 2nd degree burglary, following an investigation into a sexual assault that in the City of Oneonta last Thursday. The investigation revealed that Richardson allegedly entered the home of an acquaintance without permission and performed sexual acts with the victim without her consent. Richardson was held at the City of Oneonta Police Department until arraignment at the City of Oneonta Court.
Jury deliberations were underway in a Manhattan Federal Courtroom this morning, in the trial of former Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver. Silver's trial is into the 5th week with the jury set to resume deliberations today. Silver was elected speaker of the New York State Assembly in 1994, he was forced to step down as speaker after his arrest in January on federal corruption charges.
The City of Oneonta Police Department is proudly hosting its 3rd annual toy drive for needy children in our community. If you would like to donate a toy for a boy or girl aged 1-15, we will gladly accept! State Police arrested 26-year-old Bryan Eichhorn of Laurens, for Felony DWI, driving without a locking device & other traffic violations. This arrest occurred after troopers observed Eichhorn failing to stop at a stop sign & speeding on Otsego County Route 10 in the Town of Laurens. Eichorn has a conviction for DWI within the last ten years; he was issued tickets returnable to the Town of Laurens court on December 7th.

The last day to register to vote in the November 3rd General Election for Delaware county residents is Friday October 9, 2015, it is also the last day for the Board of Elections to receive an enrollment change to be effective for 2016. The 52nd Senate District covering Deposit and Hancock has a 1-year vacancy. County Court Judge and County Family Court Judge and many town offices are up for election. Absentee ballots, sample ballots with any propositions for the General Election are available at the Board of Elections Office in Delhi, Registration Forms and Absentee Ballot applications may be downloaded from co.delaware.ny.us/departments.

The results of the Otsego County Conservation Association's "What's In Our Water?" program are in and, the overall quality of Otsego County's drinking water is very good, with a strong baseline of the water chemistry by which future contamination can be detected. The Chenango County Sheriff’s Office arrested 2 Town of Norwich residents for Neglect of an Impounded Animal. Charged were 53-year-old Keith Robinson and 64 year old Mary Randall, they are accused of keeping 4 dogs in crates for extreme lengths of time without cleaning the crates or having proper ventilation. Both will appear in the Town of Norwich Court at a later date.

State Police responded to a Delaware County 911 report of a fatal accident Sunday, involving 2 vehicles on State Route 23 in the Town of Roxbury. 19 year old Thomas Schmiedel of Prattsville was driving a Chevrolet Silverado, he moved into the opposing lane & and collided head-on with a Toyota RAV4 driven by 71 year old Elvira Vogt of Jefferson, she was pronounced dead at the scene. Her passenger was 71-year-old Robert Vogt of Jefferson, he suffered a broken arm and other injuries and he was transported to Albany Medical Center. Schmiedel suffered internal injuries and was taken to Fox Hospital and then Bassett Hospital, he was charged with Driving While Intoxicated, additional charges are pending. His passenger 18-year-old Tyler Hoyt of Maplecrest was not injured. The investigation is continuing.
Delaware County Deputies received a burglary complaint of a seasonal residence in the Town of Andes. Deputies arrested 56-year-old Kevin Gutliph of Delhi for 3rd degree burglary, Gutliph was arraigned in Town of Andes Court and remanded to the Delaware County Jail in lieu of $2,500 cash bail, and he is to re-appear in the Town of Andes Court at a later date
Governor Cuomo announced that statewide smoking levels have been reduced to the lowest rate in recorded history as a result of the state’s wide-ranging tobacco cessation efforts. Data shows that in the last four years, the smoking rate among high school students has dropped to 7.3%, while the adult smoking rate has dropped to 14.5%, well below the national average of 17.8% more information or assistance in quitting tobacco use is available at the State Smokers’ Quitline, at 1-866-NY-QUITS or NYSmokeFree.com.
The United Way of Delaware and Otsego Counties announced that the technical training for their 2016 funding application would be held on Wednesday, June 17th at 9:30 AM in the Fox Care Center Conference room in Oneonta. The funding cycle is January 1, 2016 through December 31, 2016. Applications are available now by contacting our office. Registration for the training is requested by June 15th at 432-8006.

The 11th annual American Cancer Society Tri-Town Relay For Life will be held at the General Clinton Park in Bainbridge on Saturday May 9th this year. The 2015 theme is Hero’s of Hope & this year’s event will be ONE day only, running from 11am to 11pm. Officials announced that it is not too late to become involved by either registering a team or volunteering, more information is available at relayforlife.org/tritownny or at the next meeting on Monday April 6th at 5:30 at the United Methodist Church, Liberty Street in Sidney.
The Delaware County Republican Committee has endorsed Porter Kirkwood for Family Court Judge. Kirkwood currently serves as Delaware County Attorney. The Delaware County Family Court Judgeship is a new position that was created by the Governor and State Legislature in 2014 in an effort to relieve the backlog of cases in Family Courts around the State. 25 new Family Court Judgeships were added in New York. No Democratic Party Candidate has been announced.

State Police from Oneonta arrested 41-year-old Kimberely Edwards of Otego for Aggravated DWI with a reportable BAC result of .22%. The arrest followed a vehicle stop for failing to keep right on Emmons Hill Road in Oneonta, Edwards was issued tickets returnable to the Town of Oneonta Court on January 27th.
Gilbertsville Mount Upton graduate Corin Todd of Otego will compete in the 2015 ESPN X-Games in Aspen, Colorado this weekend. Todd is a professional snocross rider, he told WCDO about competing in the X-Games:
