The heavy rain has slowed down & is changing over to snow showers in some location this afternoon, local Meteorologist Rich Townsend told WCDO News that there could be some isolated minor flooding:

Delaware County DPW Commissioner Jim Thomas reported some roads were flooded earlier today, including State Route 357, which was closed between County Route 14 and State Route 28 in Franklin, also Flooding on State Route 10 slowed traffic between Peaks Brook Road in Delhi and County Route 16, 1 lane traffic was being directed by DOT flaggers, County Route 18 above Delhi & County Route 9 were also closed earlier this afternoon. The Otsego County Sheriff's office announced road closures at Piermott Lane and Wileytown Road in the Town of Hartwick, County Highway 48 between Chamberlain Hill and Downey Road Spur in Otego, County Highway 4 between Mill Street and Hilton Street in the Town of Butternuts, County Highway 29 in the town of Springfield & Miller Road in the Town of Pittsfield. Following the October announcement of the closure of the Morris branch of Community Bank, N.A., in January, A public meeting, coordinated by Butternut Valley Alliance, was held November 20 to identify the greatest concerns, Maggie Brenner is Vice Chair of the Butternut Valley Alliance, she told WCDO News what options they can pursue for their banking:

Brenner said that the Community Bank closing in Morris affects several communities around Morris, and that there has been significant growth in the surrounding area the last couple of years, which they hope warrants a banking institution to set up some sort of bank or credit union locally, and not force everyone to go 20 miles or more to do all of their banking needs.

The Delaware County Toys for Tots Campaign collected 1300 Items and many Cash Donations, which will support Nearly 300 Delaware County Families and 600 Children this Christmas season. This year's campaign was a joint effort from the Delaware County Chamber of Commerce & Delaware Opportunities, with collection boxes at over 20 businesses.

Filmmaker Joseph Stillman will premier his latest movie: "Bear" this weekend in Oneonta, Stillman told WCDO News about his latest film:

Stillman said that the movie was filmed around the Gilbertsville area, it was based on his 5-year involvement with a Marine drill instructor and 25 other veterans. Chaquasja Veale of Norwich was indicted Friday & was charged with 2nd degree murder, for the killing of 44 year old Alisa Ann Martin in her Norwich home July 6th. Veale had been staying in Martin's home, she died died by strangulation, Veale was being held on bail in the Chenango County Jail pending future court action.

The number of full-time local government workers employed outside of New York City shrank 7.9% from 2007 through 2022, according to a report by State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli. New York’s decline in local government employment is in contrast to the nation, which saw a 2% increase in the number of full-time employees over this 15-year period. Local government workforce levels were most impacted by two key events during this time – the Great Recession of 2007-09 and the COVID-19 pandemic. School districts were the largest local government employer in 2022, Counties were second, followed by cities and villages and towns.

Congressman Marc Molinaro will host a 'Coffee With Your Congressman' meeting today, from 6:30pm to 7:30pm at the Park Diner & Restaurant at 119 Conklin Ave, Binghamton. An American Red Cross Blood Drive will return this year to honor fallen State Trooper Christopher Skinner, who served for 13 years & was killed in a hit and run in 2014 while conducting a routine traffic stop on Interstate 81 in the Town of Chenango. Today is Election Day, with the polls open until 9:00 PM tonight. Locally, voters will decide on who fills a seat on the State Supreme Court between Deidre Hay & Cheryl Insinga. In the town of Sidney, the 2 biggest vote getters will sit on the Town Board between Kevin Greene, Paul Muratore & Bill Hunt, In the town of Guilford Susan McIntyre, Gilda Ward & Thomas Quiter are running for town Supervisor. Many candidates are running unopposed for a variety of positions across the WCDO listening area. Voters can go to their county Board of Elections websites to see the candidates in their local races.

Attorney General Letitia James reminded New Yorkers that the Office's Election Protection Hotline is available through 9:00 PM tonight, to help all New Yorkers who need assistance casting their ballots. The Chenango County Health Department is hosting a COVID-19 vaccine clinic for uninsured and under-insured individuals through the Bridge Access Program. This COVID-19 vaccine clinic is for 18 years of age and older, it will be held November 16th &17th, from 9-11 am and 1-3 pm at 5 Court Street Norwich. Appointments can be made at 607-337-1660.

The Delaware County Chamber of Commerce announced that their annual Toys for Tots Campaign is underway, to get Christmas gifts to Delaware County children in need. New, unwrapped Christmas gift in a Toys for Tots collection box located in businesses & organizations throughout Delaware County.

The campaign runs through December 8. Chamber staff will pick up the toys from member businesses on December 8 and deliver them to Delaware Opportunities, to provide distribution of the gifts to Delaware County families. Delaware County Sheriff’s Office arrested 42 year old Jason Ransford of South Kortright for Criminal Mischief. Sheriff’s Deputies received a vandalism complaint on October 31st, Ransford is accused of recklessly operated an off-road forklift causing damage to the property of another. Ransford was released on an appearance ticket and directed to appear at the Town of Stamford court to answer the charge.

The Otsego County Solid Waste Department, Otsego County Conservation Association, and Casella announced that the Film Plastic Recycling Challenge is back, where area schools recycle plastic bags and other plastic film items which cannot be recycled through regular recycling programs. The challenge focuses on collecting clean, dry, plastic film to help keep it out of the landfill. The challenge November 15th until April 24th, Winners will be announced on Earth Day, April 22, 2024.

Governor Hochul's office announced that work is officially underway to transform the Greater Binghamton Airport into a modern, state-of-the-art facility. The project calls for the Redevelopment of the Airport Road approach, Construction of a new canopy and entry portals, Reconfiguration of the ticketing lobby, baggage claim area and relocation of rental car counters, New parking revenue control system & the Construction of a new Customs and Border Protection Facility.

The State Office of General Services announced an auction of surplus vehicles, highway equipment, and miscellaneous property will be conducted on November 14. New York will honor veterans on the year's 6th and final Free Fishing Day of 2023 on Saturday, November 11th. On Free Fishing Days, the state waives the requirement for a freshwater fishing license.

The Defense & The Prosecution finished up their cases in the trial of Former Colonial Restaurant Owners Yaron Kweller & Jordan Rindgen today in Binghamton. Kweller is charged with criminal sexual abuse and rape, Rindgen is charged with criminal sex act and unlawfully dealing with a child. Closing arguments will start tomorrow morning in Broome County Court.

Binghamton University announced that they have canceled all of today’s classes due to an ongoing investigation. Officials issued an emergency message to students shortly before 9:00 This morning, as Campus Police were actively investigating an incident near the Bartle Library Tower. Officials issued a second alert canceling about a half an hour later canceling all classes. More information will be released later today.

State Police announced that no arrests were made during an Underage Drinking Initiative in Troop “C” in Otsego County on Friday October 27th. During the initiative, 13 businesses were checked. All 13 were in compliance and did not sell alcohol to an under-aged operative. During the Initiative, retail establishments are checked using a trooper in plain clothes and one or several underage operatives who cannot lie about their age or give a fake date of birth. When asked for ID, they must show their real ID.

The Broome County District Attorney's Office says 49-year-old Hasaan Coston was sentenced to 12 years in New York State prison after being found guilty of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance and other related drug charges. The Broome County Special Investigations Unit Task force executed 2 search warrants Coston was found in possession cocaine, crack cocaine, baggies, a scale, and $1,200 from suspected drug sales.

Oneonta Police Department were investigating a noise complaint in the area of Spruce Street and Myrtle Avenue in the City of Oneonta, While investigating, officers heard what sounded like discharging a firearm. Officers were assisted by State Police, and State University Police, a search was conducted, they found no evidence of a firearms discharge. The investigation is ongoing, Anyone with additional information should call the Oneonta Police Department at (607) 432-1111.

Broome County Sheriff's Office arrested a Binghamton man following a fight with staff and customers at a restaurant & with Deputies during and after his arrest Sunday. 25 year old Hamail Waddell of Binghamton was placed in the patrol car, he began kicking the car doors and repeatedly striking his head against the car window, he was transported to the Broome County Sheriff’s office for processing, he kicked a door handle off, he was transported to Wilson Hospital for evaluation, where he verbally abused patients & staff, he was sedated & treated and returned to Central Arraignment & was charged with Criminal Mischief, Obstructing Governmental Administration, Disorderly Conduct, & Harassment, he was still in custidy Sunday night.

The New York State Department of Labor today released preliminary local area unemployment rates for September 2023. The State’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate increased from 3.9% in August to 4.0% in September, locally Chenango County reported 2.9% unemployment, Delaware County 3.4% & Otsego County had 3.0% in September.

Local government sales tax collections in New York state totaled $5.9 billion in the third calendar quarter of 2023 (July - September), an increase of 3.6%, or more than $205 million, compared to the same period last year, according to a report released today by State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli. This marks the second consecutive quarter of collections returning to lower pre-pandemic year-over-year growth rates. The full report can be found at osc.state.ny.us.

Applications for the New York State Trooper Entrance Exam are now available through March 4, 2024. The most recent recruitment effort raised the maximum age to apply from 29 to 34, Military applicants may be eligible to apply up until the age of 42 & the State Police has also revised its tattoo policy, more information & a study guide is available at joinstatepolice.ny.gov.

Governor Hochul announced that the state investment in renewable energy is continuing, with 3 Offshore Wind and 22 Land-Based Renewable Energy Projects, which is expected to power 2.6 Million New York Homes and Deliver 12 Percent of New York’s Electricity Needs in 2030. The Projects are projected to create about 8,300 Jobs and Bring $20 Billion in Economic Development Investments Statewide. Local projects will include Stonewall Solar will build a 145-megawatt solar facility co-located with 20 megawatts of energy storage in the Town of Meredith.

Hartwick College officials announced that they are hosting 2 Candidate Forums prior to Election Day. The Hartwick Institute of Public Service announced that the forums are for Otsego County and Oneonta Common Council candidates. Tomorrow, candidates running for election in Otsego County will participate, on Wednesday, November 1, the institute will host candidates running for election in the City of Oneonta. Both events are scheduled for 6-8 pm. in the Shineman Chapel House on the Hartwick College campus.

24 year old Zachary Rowe of Harpursville, appeared for arraignment on a 2-count indictment in Delaware County Court. On October 1st, Sidney Police Officer Royce Terry arrested Rowe on a bench warrant, after being taken into custody, Sidney K9 Officer Riggs conducted a search of his personal property, Riggs quickly discovered and indicated the presence of narcotics, Sidney Police obtained a search warrant & seized $7,000.00 in illegal methamphetamine and fentanyl. The indictment charges Rowe with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance with intent to sell, he was remanded the defendant to the Delaware County Correctional Facility without bail.

Delaware County Sheriff's Office arrested 42 year old Brian Bennett of Oneonta for Criminal Contempt and 2 counts of Aggravated Harassment, following a Domestic incident, in the Town of Walton. On April 28th, 2022, Deputies responded to a Domestic incident, Bennett had been harassing 2 victims by electronic means and that 1 of the victims had a full stay away Order of Protection in place against Bennett. On May 4th, 2022, 2 arrest warrants were issued by the Walton Town Court, On October 11th Deputies arrested and charged Bennett on both arrest warrants, he was held at the Delaware County Correctional Facility to await centralized arraignment.

39 year old Orlando Torres of Binghamton was found guilty by a Broome County Jury for 2 counts of criminal possession of a Controlled Substance & 1 count of criminal possession of drug paraphernalia. The Broome County Special Investigations Unit Task Force executed a search warrant on a Binghamton apartment, Officer seized 20 grams of fentanyl, Cash from drug sales and a digital scale. Torres faces up to 12 years in state prison when sentenced next month.

State Police & Emergency Crews responded to a Tractor Trailer Accident on I-88 Eastbound between exits 5 & 6 earlier this afternoon. Eastbound traffic was detoured to Route 7, the investigation into the cause of the accident is ongoing.

The Delaware county Chamber of Commerce is teaming up again this year for a county wide "Toys For Tots" collection for disadvantaged children. The Otsego County Sheriff's office arrested 24 year old Kristen Knapp of Cooperstown following an investigation of a motor vehicle accident on September 23rd. Knapp was charged with Driving While Intoxicated, Aggravated DWI, Speed not reasonable and prudent, along with other charges following an accident at County Highway 33 and County Highway 11C in the Town of Middlefield. Knapp will appear in Town of Middlefield Court at a later date.

Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 45 year old Jeremy Stimpson of Laurens for 4th Degree Grand Larceny following an investigation of a larceny in Otego, he was held for arraignment at the Otsego County Correctional Facility.

60 year old John Hussey of Walton, pleaded guilty in Walton Town Court for Driving While Intoxicated. On February 21st, a State Trooper responded to the report of a vehicle stuck in a ditch on Beebe Road, the Trooper found Hussey face down in the ditch, he was uncooperative & impaired, he refused to take a Field Sobriety Test and attempted to get into his vehicle, Hussey was arrested & taken into custody. Hussey was sentenced Thursday, he had his license revoked for 6 months, was assessed a fine and surcharge, and ordered the installation of an Ignition Interlock Device, he will also be required to enroll in the Impaired Driving Program and the Victim Impact Panel.

Broome County Sheriff's Office announced the arrest of 2 people following a home invasion with shots fire Wednesday evening at Bradley Creek Road in the Town of Maine. Sheriff Akshar explained at a Press Conference this afternoon.:

Sheriff Akshar said that 2 people were arrested within 3 hours of the incident; 21 year old Jayvon Phillip & 31 year old Rozlyn Warthen of Binghamton were each charged with Attempted Murder, Attempted Burglary & Criminal Use of A Firearm, Phillip sustained a gunshot wound to his leg during the incident and was being treated at a local hospital when he and Warthen were arrested. 27 year old Taykwann Browne of Brooklyn was sentenced to 10 years in jail in Broome County Court Thursday. Browne pleaded guilty to felony criminal possession of a weapon, he admitted that on January 18, he illegally possessed a loaded 9-millimeter pistol in the City of Binghamton. Browne had escaped supervision while having an active homicide warrant in New York City, he was located driving in the City of Binghamton when police attempted to pull him over, he failed to comply and drove off, he crashed the car & then fled on foot & was apprehended, a loaded handgun & narcotics were recovered at the scene. Browne was on parole for a 2015 robbery conviction in Brooklyn at the time of the arrest, he is also facing murder charges in New York City.

Governor Kathy Hochul today announced the ratification of a 4-year labor agreement with the United University Professions, which includes over 37,000 SUNY system faculty and professional employees. The agreement runs until July 1, 2026, it won the approval of 96.4% union members who cast ballots.

The Johnson City Central School District announcing the resignation of middle school principal Daniel Erickson of Greene. Erickson was arrested in July after he allegedly attempted to lure a 16-year-old former student through social media, to perform sexual acts with him. He was remanded to Broome County Jail and released on bail on July 12.

Molinaro said that he will work from the federal side to allow state & ICE officials to communicate, DA Smith said that Garcia was previously arrested on separate felony charges in other jurisdictions but was released due to New York State's bail reform laws forwarded by then Governor Andrew Cuomo.

The Broome County Sheriff's Office announced that a man wanted on a warrant for a Sex Offender Registration Violation last week, has been taken into custody. On Monday, Jessie Barnum was taken into custody in Binghamton by the Broome County Special Investigations Unit Task Force.

The Otsego County Law Enforcement Torch Run was held Sunday in Cooperstown with the Flame of Hope that made its way around the state in support of Special Olympics New York. There are more events coming up in the next few months, including a Special Olympics competition coming in the fall according to spokesperson Michaela Darbyshire:

The Delaware County Chamber of Commerce announced that a report studying public transportation options for Delaware County is available for public review and comment, according to the Delaware County Chamber of Commerce. The Chamber has been working with various entities to assess transportation needs and opportunities in Delaware County as transportation has been a significant barrier to employment. State Police Traffic Incident Management Unit issued a total of 38 tickets in Broome County during an “Operation Hard Hat” detail. Troopers monitored traffic on State Route 17 in the town of Sanford where road crews were doing construction work. 9 tickets were issued for speeding, 4 for using a cellphone while driving, 18 were seat belts violations & 9 other assorted tickets were issued last Thursday.

A contraband investigation led to multiple drug smuggling charges at the Broome County Sheriff’s Correctional Facility this week. 36 year old Jamell Jones was charged with 2 Counts of Promoting Prison Contraband, 2 Counts of Tampering with Physical Evidence, plus Obstructing Governmental Administration. Jones became uncooperative, & was combative with investigators, Jones was placed in a Medical Housing Unit under Contraband Protocol to monitor his health and prevent a possible overdose from the Methamphetamines that were smuggled on his person. Jones was processed at the Broome County Correctional Facility and will answer for his charges at the Town of Dickinson Court on a future date.

Broome County Sheriff's Office is attempting to locate a white male regarding a larceny that occurred Monday at the Price Chopper at 33 Chenango Bridge Road in the Town of Chenango. The subject is believed to be in his early to mid-thirties, approximately 5’8”, wearing a blue Adidas sweatshirt, black pants, a camouflage face mask & red shoes. Otsego County Sheriff's Office reminds those interested in joining the Department, that the deadline is tomorrow to submit an application, mail in applications can be postmarked no later than August 11th. Examinations will be held on September 9th.

The National Weather Service office in Binghamton is currently conducting a storm survey following thunderstorms Monday So Far, investigators determined that an EF3 tornado struck Lewis County in the towns of Lewis and Turin, in Madison County, Munnsville saw an EF1 tornado & in Vernon and Taberg, in Oneida County, an EF1 tornado touched down.

Delhi Telephone, or DTC, continues to expand their Fiber Optic internet & cable services around the county, they have completed the infrastructure in several locations, & they are currently wrapping up work in Walton, Spokesman Jason Miller told WCDO News where they go next:

DTC was part of the state’s plan a few years ago to get Internet Services to under-served rural areas, they have since planned to get their infrastructure into bigger municipalities that have more traditional cable & internet services.

The State Department of Labor announced that its Division of Worker Protection investigators have recovered and returned over $11.7 million in stolen wages to 12,000 affected workers since January 1, putting the Department on track to recover $20 million in stolen wages this year. Over the past decade, they have recovered and dispersed more than $360 million in stolen wages, identified over a million misclassified workers, and assessed over $400 million owed in unemployment insurance contributions through both criminal cases and civil enforcement.

State Police announced that 15 year old Emily Clapper, who was reported missing recently, from the town of Winfield, has been located. Utica Police found Clapper & reported her in good health.

The Broome County Sheriff’s Office is looking for Jessie Barnum on an outstanding warrant, for violating the Sex Offender registration laws. Delaware County Public Health will be holding a free Car Seat Safety Event at Delaware Opportunities Inc. 35430 State Highway 10 Hamden, from 3:30PM-5:30PM. 59% of children are riding in car seats that are not properly installed or do not fit correctly. Sidney Police Department arrested 33 year old Jesse Terry of Unadilla Wednesday, for criminal possession of stolen property, unlawful fleeing a police officer, aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, driving while under the influence of drugs & resisting arrest amon other charges. Sidney Police received an alert about a stolen vehicle out of Oneonta, the vehicle was observed at a car wash, with State Police assisting the traffic stop, Terry did not comply and rammed the Sidney Police car, police pursued along West Main Street, the pursuit ended at the Circle Drive Apartments, where Terry hit 1 of the apartment buildings with the vehicle, he fled into an apartment building and was taken into custody, he was treated at the hospital & was later arraigned in the Village of Sidney Court & was remanded to the Delaware County Jail. More charges are pending.

Delaware County District Attorney's Office announced that 41 year old Darren Moscato of Delhi, was arraigned on a sealed indictment in Delaware County Court Monday. The indictment was unsealed, Count One accused Moscato of attempting to endanger the welfare of a child, the other counts accuse him of Attempted Disseminating of Indecent Material to Minors, Engaging in a sexually explicit conversation with a minor with the intention of enticing the child to engage in sexual activity, and for sending explicit pictures to the minor. Moscato was released to the supervision of the Delaware County Probation Department, pending a conference on July 24th.

Delaware County District Attorney's office announced that 58 year old Mark Seeley of Walton, was sentenced to 2 years in the County Jail for Aggravated Harassment and Criminal Contempt. On September 11, 2022, Seeley, threatened several individuals, the Court issued orders of protection for the victims, Seeley violated the orders of protection multiple times. On May 8th, Seeley agreed to a plea deal in County Court, but on May 31st, State Police were contacted by the victims who had discovered that Seeley posted about the victims on social media. Due to the numerous violations the District Attorney’s Office voided the plea & Seeley was sent to jail.

State Police and other law enforcement agencies continue to search the State Route 79 area and continue to maintain a presence searching for a man that may be a threat to himself and others in Chenango Forks. State Police said that the man may be armed, residents from Route 369 to Richards Road were advised to stay inside, keep their doors and vehicles locked. State Route 79 has been re-opened to traffic. The suspect is described as a white male, with dark hair, approximately 6 foot 1 inches tall and 275 pounds, last seen wearing a black shirt, light-colored pants or shorts and may be wearing glasses. Anyone with information should call 911, & should not approach the suspect..

Delaware County Sheriff's Office arrested 51 year old Stacy Coss of Andes for driving while ability is impaired by the use of drugs, and aggravated unlicensed operator. On July 7th, Deputies stopped a motor vehicle in the Town of Andes being operated by Coss, her driving privileges were revoked from a prior DWI and she was operating a motor vehicle in an impaired state. Coss was released on appearance tickets and directed to appear at the Town of Andes court at a later date.

Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 32 year old Tyler Newman of Unadilla following a motor vehicle accident on April 24, 2023 in the Town of Unadilla. Newman was charged with Driving While Intoxicated, Aggravated DWI, Refusal to Take Breath Test, Speed not reasonable and prudent among other charges, on County Highway 3 in Unadilla. Newman will appear in Town of Unadilla Court on May 8th.

Johnnie Hardwick of Binghamton will spend 12 years in jail following a hold up at Weis Markets in Binghamton last October. Hardwick was approached by a store employee & pulled a knife and threatened to stab the employee. Hardwick has previous convictions of Sexual Abuse and Attempted Robbery, he is classified as a persistent violent felony offender under state law.

State Police are warning New Yorkers of a computer scam. Police report that when logging on to a computer, a message is displayed on the screen that states to contact Microsoft due to a virus, the victim then contacts the phone number provided and speaks with a person who identifies themselves as a representative of Microsoft’s Security Office. The victim is then told their bank account information has been compromised. Anyone who receives a message to reach out to "Microsoft" support should not call & should never provide any personal information as it can be used to steal personal information.

The Trial of Nauman Hussain starts today in connection with the fatal crash of Hussain's Prestige Limo that crashed in Schoharie, killing 20 people in October 2018. Hussain is facing 20 counts of manslaughter and criminally negligent homicide, Jury Selection began this afternoon in Schoharie County Court.

The Broome County Special Investigations Unit Task Force raided 41 Doubleday Street on Tuesday. Police seized Opioids, methamphetamine, suboxone strips, 5 long guns and 2 handguns, they arrested 47 year-old James Roberts on drug and weapons charges & 43 year-old Danielle Ashdown on weapons charges. Thursday, officers pulled over a vehicle with stolen plates in Binghamton and seized hydrocodone, ecstasy and a pair of handguns, 1 was reported stolen from Owego, they arrested 44 year-old Rondell Wright, 34 year-old Calvin Chambers, 24 year-old John Carter and 38 year-old Shauna Massey. On Thursday, officers raided 1 Lawton Avenue in Binghamton and seized meth, fentanyl and drug selling materials. Police arrested 39 year-old Robert Titus on drug charges.

On April 22, Broome County Sheriff’s Office patrol responded to motor vehicle accident at State Route 12 and 12A in the Town of Chenango, 50 year old Jennifer Chamberlain of Binghamton was talked out of the vehicle by a deputy as gas was spilling onto the pavement, fire fighters responded to the crash and leak. Chamberlain attempted to make a turn, but veered wide left, crossing lanes of traffic. Her vehicle jumped over a raised curb and continued over a mulch bed striking several signposts and bushes before coming to a stop in the gas station parking lot. The broken signposts had ruptured the vehicle’s gas tank. Chamberlain's BAC was .27%, over 3 times the legal limit, she was charged with Driving While Intoxicated, Aggravated DWI with a BAC of 0.18 or more, Speed Not Reasonable & Prudent, Aggravated Unlicensed Operation among other charges, she was arraigned and released on an appearance ticket for Town of Chenango Court.

Attorney General Letitia James announced that 340 firearms were turned in at a community gun buyback event hosted by her office and the Johnson City Police Department. Attorney General James' office held 9 gun buyback events statewide with more than 3,000 guns turned in, including 185 assault rifles, 1,656 handguns, and 823 long guns. In Johnson City, they received 25 assault rifles, 169 handguns, and 114 long guns.

2 Broome County residents are facing 20 felony charges after being apprehended by Broome County Sheriff’s Deputies following an armed robbery in the Town of Chenango that led to an extended vehicle and foot pursuit through Johnson City and Endwell. Deputies responded Wednesday to a report of a robbery and assault on Dimmock Hill Road in the Town of Chenango. Deputies determined that 39 year old Alex Shoga of Binghamton, entered the residence displaying a handgun with 27 year old Kristin Silvanic of Endicott. 1 of the victims stolen tablets allowed deputies to track the suspects in Johnson City, where Deputies converged on the area and encountered the suspect vehicle, after a short pursuit, the suspects were taken to the Broome County Sheriff’s Office Central Arraignment and charged with the following Robbery, Burglary, criminal Use of a Firearm, tampering with physical evidence & criminal possession of stolen property, among many other charges,

Delaware County District Attorney's office announced that 47 year old James Amato, also known as Tony Amato of Downsville was arraigned on an Amended Violation of Probation Petition in Delaware County Court. Amato is accused of possessing drugs on February 18th in the Town of Colchester and a hearing was scheduled for April 3rd. Amato was remanded to the Delaware County Correctional Facility without bail, he was serving a sentence of probation supervision for his February 2022 convictions of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, If his probation supervision sentence is revoked, he faces up to 9 years in State Prison.

19th District Congressman Marc Molinaro announced over $10 million in federal funding for various local organizations. Greater Opportunities for Broome and Chenango, Inc. is receiving $2,744,923 for its Head Start Program, Cornell University is receiving $3,792,922 for pharmacology research and $776,752 for allergy and immunology research. SUNY Binghamton is receiving $783,365 for alcohol abuse treatment research & The Family Health Network of Central New York, Inc. is receiving $2,300,207 to support the continuation of care.

The Delaware County District Attorney office announced that 37 year old Douglas Rodriguez pleaded guilty in Delaware County Court to Criminal Contempt, after violating a court order of protection by phone several times, and for trying to convince that person not to testify against him. Rodriguez was remanded to the Delaware County Jail on $35,000 cash bail pending sentencing on April 10th.

The Delaware County District Attorney's office announced that 50 year old Kristopher Surdis of Kingston, appeared in Delaware County Court on March 20, 2023 and pleaded guilty to one count of Falsely Reporting an Incident. Surdis was arrested by the Colchester Police Department for allegedly calling the Downsville Country Store and reporting a bomb threat. After being arraigned on a Superior Court Information, he pleaded guilty and was sentenced to time already served in jail and also imposed a 3-year Conditional Discharge, which requires Surdis undergo a mental health evaluation, and comply with any treatment recommendations for the next three years, if he violates the terms, he could be re-sentenced to a term of 7 years in jail.

Otsego County Sheriff's Office announced that 45 year old Kendra Barrett of Burlington Flats, was arrested for DWI, Aggravated DWI, Speed not reasonable and prudent, Driving on the shoulder, Open Container along with several other charges, following a motor vehicle accident in the Town of Pittsfield. Barrett was issued appearance tickets returnable to the Town of Pittsfield Court at a later date.

Delaware County District Attorney's Office announced that 39 year old Leigh Murray of Patterson pleaded guilty to DWI in Delaware County Court. Murray admitted to driving at a high rate of speed on State Route 17 in Hancock after 2 to 3 vodkas in November of last year, she will be sentenced to 6 months in jail and 5 years of post release supervision at sentencing at a later date.

U.S. Senator Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand announced $5,196,000 in federal funding to develop and preserve affordable housing and invest in community development efforts throughout New York. The funding was allocated through NeighborWorks America, locally, Greater Opportunities for Broome and Chenango, will receive $212,000 in funding.

Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a report of harassment occurring in the Village of Margaretville. During the course of the investigation, the complainant advised that 51-year-old Melissa Hull of Margaretville contacted her via telephone and made threats & came to her residence in a confrontational manner and made additional threats. Hull was arrested Friday, & an order of protection was also issued against Hull ordering her to stay away from the complainant. Hull was processed and released on an appearance ticket.

The New York State Department of Labor today released preliminary local area unemployment rates for January 2023. New York State's seasonally adjusted unemployment increased from 4.1% to 4.2% in January 2023. Locally Chenango County had 4.3% unemployment, Delaware County 5.1% and Otsego County also had 5.1% in January.

Norwich Police Department's new Chief Reuben Roach was sworn in by City of Norwich Mayor Brian Doliver Tuesday. Roach has had a 19-year career in law enforcement, serving in multiple positions over his career.

SUNY Oneonta & the Sidney Central School District have set up a teacher pipeline initiative to bring SUNY Education students into the Sidney School District, which could lead to a teaching position in Sidney for the SUNY graduates, Sidney Superintendent Eben Bullock explains:

Bullock said that the program started last fall and doubled in size from 22 students in the fall to 22 students on campus and 19 working at the Pre-K off campus program at the Cullman Center this spring. Bullock said that there has been a teacher shortage and this program may help alleviate that issue in Sidney.

A Cortland man charged with DWI after colliding with Broome Sheriff’s Office patrol car in the Town of Lisle Sunday. Additional Sheriff’s deputies responded to the accident, conducted the investigation and interviewed the driver, 26 year4 old Zackary Kohout of Cortland. Kohout was arrested and charged with Driving While Intoxicated, Following Too Closely, Speed Not Reasonable & Prudent, & Consumption of Alcohol in a Motor Vehicle, he was arraigned and released on an appearance ticket for the Town of Lisle Court later this month. The deputy whose patrol car was struck sustained minor injuries and was transported to Wilson Hospital for evaluation. He was subsequently treated and released.

19th District Congressman Marc Molinaro announced that Opportunities for Otsego will receive $4.3 million dollars. The funds will be used to support the Head Start program, which provides early childhood education, health, nutrition, and parent involvement services to children from low-income families.

Broome County District Attorney Mike Korchak announced that Michael Seaman of New Berlin pleaded guilty in Broome County Court to felony Attempted Assault. Seaman admitted that on October 18, 2022, in the Town of Fenton he attempted to cause serious injury to an 18-year-old male by stabbing him in the leg with a knife during a road rage altercation. The victim was hospitalized and required surgery. Seaman will serve 4 years in State prison followed by 5 years post release supervision, he also waived his right to appeal. He will be sentenced on May 24th.

Delaware County District Attorney's Office announced the conviction of 43 year old Jonathan Sanchez of Meredith for criminal contempt, harassment. Sanchez was accused of contacting a protected party who had an order of protection filed against him, he is accused of violating that order, he will remain incarcerated at the Delaware County Correctional Facility until an opening at a rehabilitation center becomes available, where he will spend a 3 year term of probation supervision.

Binghamton Police Department responded to the report of shots fired & a vehicle fleeing the scene. The vehicle was eventually stopped, with Skylar Pierre Louis and Juan Genao in the vehicle. Drugs, drug paraphernalia and money were also found in the car. Genao was charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance and Criminal Use of Drug Paraphernalia, Louis was charged with Unlawfully Fleeing a Police Officer in a Motor Vehicle, the investigation is continuing and more charges are expected.

The Delaware County Office for the Aging announced that there annual Big Wheels Golf Tournament will be held on Friday May 12th ant the Delhi College Golf Course. The event is the primary fundraiser for the office for the aging, registration is available by calling 607-832-5750.

U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand discussed her dairy priorities for the upcoming 2023 Farm Bill negotiations. Gillibrand said she will reintroduce her Dairy Pricing Opportunity Act, to change Class I milk pricing by requiring the United States Department of Agriculture to hold national hearings to review Federal Milk Marketing Orders.

Senator Gillibrand will pushing Canada to uphold its dairy trade obligations as part of the U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement, currently Canada is not allowing American Dairy Farmers to import their product into Canada.

U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development announced $1,162,978 to 2 local homeless housing and services organizations. In New York, HUD awarded a total of $2,042,599.  The Binghamton, Town of Union, Otsego, Chenango, Delaware, Cortland, and Tioga Counties Continuum of Care received $716,456 for Opportunities for Otsego and $446,522 for Catholic Charities of Chenango County.

It was a Basketball Homecoming for Hancock resident Laycee Drake at Binghamton University, Drake plays for The University of Maryland Baltimore County Retrievers, they took on the Lady Bearcats in Binghamton last night, WCDO Sports Director Nate Lull said that drake received tremendous local support last night:

Drake graduated from Hancock on 2021 and finished her High School Career with over 1800 points, she scored 11 point last night, but Binghamton won the game 80-70.

Several area Fire Departments responded to a structure fire at 440 St. John Road in Afton early this morning. The fire was mainly confined to the 1st floor, there was smoke & heat damage to parts of the 2nd floor, 1 unconscious occupant was removed & was taken to Wilson Hospital. Firefighters from Afton, Harpursville, Greene, Bainbridge & Coventry Responded, the cause of the fire is under investigation.

The Budget contains a $1 Billion Plan to Fix New York State's Mental Health Care, a pledge Not To Raise Income Taxes, the New York Housing Compact Will Build 800,000 New Homes, to Address Statewide Housing Shortage, a $337 Million Investment Aimed at Reducing Gun Violence, $5.5 Billion to Promote sustainable Energy, more information is available at budget.ny.gov.

On Saturday night, Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies conducted a traffic stop in the Town of Colchester, Deputies identified the driver of the vehicle as 44-year-old Tyrece Williams of Syracuse, who's vehicle registration was suspended, due to an Insurance Lapse. Williams was charged with Operating a Motor Vehicle with a Suspended/Revoked Registration, Aggravated Unlicensed Operator, Failing to turn in license plates into DMV, among other charges, Williams was released and is scheduled to appear in the Town of Colchester Court at a later date.

About a dozen people were arrested at a protest at the Johnson City Wegman's Parking lot last night. People were protesting the police brutality cases of Tyre Nichols in Memphis & the Hamail Waddell keeling incident by Binghamton Police January 1st. Police from the Johnson City, Binghamton and Endicott Police departments, as well as the Broome County sheriffs Deputies and State Troopers responded.
