(text: HARTWICK HEAD FOOTBALL COACH MARK CARR AND 5 OF HIS PLAYERS ARE BEING PUNISHED AFTER AN INCIDENT IN THE FINAL MOMENTS OF A 41-34 LOSS LAST WEEKEND. HARTWICK OFFICIALS DEEMED THAT ACTIONS BY THE TEAM IN THE CLOSING MOMENTS OF THE GAME WERE CONSIDERED TO BE UNSPORTSMANLIKE. ST. JOHN FISHER COLLEGE WAS LEADING THE GAME AND WAS ATTEMPTING TO RUN OUT THE CLOCK BY TAKING A KNEE BUT ON TWO DIFFERENT OCCASIONS HARTWICK PLAYERS MADE HITS ON PLAYERS THAT WERE CONSIDERED UNNECESSARY. THE 2ND HIT ENDED WITH BOTH BENCHES CLEARING ONTO THE FIELD. THE TEAMS WERE QUICKLY SEPARATED. THE EMPIRE 8 LEAGUE SAID THEY SUPPORT THE ACTIONS TAKEN BY HARTWICK ADMINISTRATION. A LARGE GROUP OF HARTWICK ATHLETICS SUPPORTERS PROTESTED THE SCHOOL’S DECISION AND IS HOPING THAT THEIR EFFORTS WILL CHANGE THE MIND OF HARTWICK ADMINISTRATION GOING FORWARD. State Police have recently received several reports of telephone callers claiming to be from the IRS that aggressively demand the resident pay money to clear up an outstanding tax debt, or face criminal charges. The public is being advised that the IRS does not make phone calls in this manner, and anyone receiving a telephone call of this nature should check with the local IRS office.
The New York State Office of General Services announced a surplus vehicle, highway equipment, and miscellaneous property auction will be held today in Binghamton, however the previously scheduled auction in Unadilla was cancelled and will not be rescheduled. Items and terms of sale are available at ogs.ny.gov. Today’s auction will begin at 9:30 AM at the DOT at 241 Colesville Road, Binghamton.

A Schoharie county jury deliberated for only 2 1/2 hours this morning in the 10th day of deliberation in the Cal Harris Murder trial. The jury was sent home at about noon today, they are scheduled for a full day of deliberations tomorrow, unless a verdict is reached quickly. The testimony portion of the trial lasted over 11 weeks.
The dispute between the Binghamton Mets Ownership & a Florida based group that claims to have had a deal to buy the team, has moved on to mediation in front of US Magistrate Judge David Peebles. B-Mets Owner Michael Urda claims that Main Street baseball wanted to move the franchise out of Binghamton, Urda said that any sale of the team stipulates that the Mets stay in Binghamton and play at NYSEG Stadium. Urda claims that a new group has come forward & expressed a desire to buy the team & keep it in Binghamton.
The school year has concluded for the State University system, & Graduation exercises are underway throughout the 62-school system. SUNY Officials said that ten of thousand of graduates will move onto to careers or additional schooling, more than three million people have graduated from SUNY since its inception. The commencement festivities have already started and will continue through the early part of June. SUNY Binghamton will hold their commencement exercises this Sunday, SUNY Oneonta will hold their commencement this Friday, SUNY Delhi will have theirs on Saturday.

Main Street Baseball, LLC of Florida has filed a lawsuit against the Binghamton Mets for breach of contract, relating to a sale of the team & the backing out from that sale. Main Street seeks a 6-month injunction to keep the B-Mets ownership from selling the team, after they released emails from team president Michael Urda where he said that he had no problem selling to a group that would move the team out of Binghamton. Urda released a statement to the press Tuesday saying they did sign a Letter of Intent with Main Street Baseball in December, that contained the provision that the “Relocation to Wilmington Delaware would not be allowed under the conditions of the sale.” Urda stated that a second ownership group has come forward that wants to keep the team in NYSEG Stadium, and that he has faith in the court system.

A Siena College poll released this week shows that 92% of polled New Yorkers believe that corruption in state government is a serious problem. 51% believe it's very serious, & believe that more needs to be done to stop Albany Corruption. Governor Cuomo's own ethics push includes new disclosure requirements for lawmakers as well as requiring receipts for travel expenses. Cuomo is attaching the measures to spending in the budget and said he's fine with risking an on-time budget to get ethics done. However, 53% prefer an on time budget to ethics reforms getting done immediately, while 37% want ethics reforms tackled first, even if it means a late state budget in April.
The Constitution Pipeline approval process inches closer to allowing Williams energy to go forward with the controversial pipeline proposal. Area Assemblyman Pete Lopez said that the pipeline proposal weighs heavy on his constituents minds:

Plans call for the construction of the natural gas pipeline to begin this summer, it would pass through Broome, Delaware & Schoharie counties locally from Pennsylvania to the Northeast states.
Attorney General Eric Schneiderman announced today that he would propose legislation in Albany to protect and reward employees who report information about illegal activity in the banking, insurance, and financial services industries. Currently, no law exists in New York State to protect or incentivize whistleblowers who report securities and other financial frauds. Schneiderman’s bill would provide financial compensation to whistleblowers whose tips lead to more than $1 million in penalties or settlement proceeds, it would also guarantee the confidentiality of the whistleblower’s information, and make it illegal for any employer to retaliate.
