State DEC announced another record-breaking year for the CleanSweepNY program. More than 645,500 pounds of chemicals, including pesticides, paint, oil, flammable and nonflammable liquids, and other hazardous materials, were collected during 2025—the highest amount in the program’s 23-year history and an overall increase of 9.3% from the previous record collection year. Delaware County Sheriff Craig DuMond was officially sworn in Monday morning following his re-election to a 3rd term as Sheriff. State Forest Rangers & the Otsego County Sheriff's Office conducted a Wilderness Search On December 25 at 6:18 pm., the Sheriff’s Office called for assistance in the search for a patient who jumped out of an ambulance. The ambulance was transporting the 47-year-old unidentified Unadilla resident from Fox Hospital to Bassett Medical Center, Ambulance personnel pursued the patient but lost sight near Walnut and Linden Streets, they searched a wooded area, about 5 hours later, a civilian notified Rangers that someone was pounding on the front door of a house on Linden Street, a Deputy found the patient sitting at the bus stop shelter and drove the patient to the hospital.

On Tuesday afternoon, the Deposit Fire Department responded to a house fire in the Town of Sanford. A candle had accidentally caught a chair on fire in a single family residence. The fire was able to be extinguished by the resident prior to crews arriving on scene. 20 home candle fires are reported each day across the country, If you use open flame candles, make sure they are in stable holders and place them where they cannot be knocked down easily. Keep them at least 12 inches away from anything that burns and be sure to blow out all candles when you leave a room or home, or when you go to bed.

The Broome County Sheriff’s Office arrested 2 people on a variety of felony charge. On December 15th, deputies responded to a burglary complaint in the Town of Binghamton, they found fresh footprints in the snow, signs of a break-in and smoke billowing from inside the house due to an active fire. State Police & Binghamton Fire Department responded, Deputies followed footprints and found evidence of stolen items, they used a drone to & located 37 year old Anthony Storti of Conklin, who was found to be in possession of narcotics, the investigation uncovered that Storti had been in the residence, left a vape behind and he set a fire inside. 24 year old Allyson Russell of Endicott, was identified as an accomplice in the burglary and arson. Both were charged with a host of felonies including Burglary, Arson criminal possession of a weapon, Grand Larceny & criminal possession of a controlled substance, they face court action shortly.

Chenango County Sheriff's Office arrested 44 year old Luis Calixto of Norwich, following a complaint from a local business regarding a larceny in progress. Calixto allegedly removed items from their packaging and attempted to conceal them and attempted to avoid store personnel and law enforcement. Deputies discovered that Calixto was in possession of small wax envelopes containing a white powder-like substance, as well as a small canister containing a white crystal-like substance, he was processed and arraigned and was remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility without bail on charges of Burglary, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Criminal Mischief and Tampering with Physical Evidence
Trout Creek Fire Department responded at about 11:20 Tuesday morning for a tractor trailer into a house. Nobody was home at the residence and that the driver of the truck was not injured. Masonville Volunteer Fire Department, State DOT, State Police, Delaware County Sheriff's Office, NYSEG and a code enforcement officer also responded, State Highway 206 was closed, All units were back in service around 3:30 PM.

Governor Kathy Hochul today announced that a record level of $67 million is available through the Farmland Protection Implementation Grants Program to help farmers protect valuable and at-risk farmland. Round 20 will make funds available to projects addressing food security, climate resilience, and source water protection, nearly $6.4 million will be allocated to 9 of the State’s economic development regions, the maximum award for any project has increased to $3 million. Round 20 also continues the one-time incentive payment of 10% of the value of the agricultural conservation easement being required for projects that meet climate resilience or source water protection goals.

The Delaware County Sheriff’s Office is looking for 29 year old Charles Dieterich, he is wanted on an arrest warrant issued by the Town of Harpersfield Court, for 2nd degree assault, obstructing governmental administration in the second degree and resisting arrest. Dieterich is described as a male standing 6 feet tall with black hair and brown eyes. The conviction stems from criminal conduct between September 2023, and January 2024, in the Town of Windsor, where Hoose, doing business as H&H Contracting, entered into a construction contract with the victim to build a garage structure on the victim’s property, the victim paid a $15,000 down payment, Hoose illegally used over $3,000 of those funds for purposes unrelated to the project. Sentencing is scheduled for March 18, 2026, in Broome County Court, Hoose faces up to 7 years in State Prison.

Governor Kathy Hochul has signed a law banning online sweepstakes casinos in New York, which are sites that let people play casino-like games with virtual coins that could be traded for cash or prizes. The new law not only outlaws these online casino-like games, it also prohibits companies that support them, like payment processors and advertisers. Penalties can reach up to $100,000 per violation. New York now joins New Jersey, California, Connecticut, Montana, and Nevada, in the ban of those online activities.

A camera was installed inside the bin, investigators identified the suspect as 69 year old John Dubrava of Chenango Forks, who had previously been arrested in Chenango County in a similar case. Investigators located Dubrava and the vehicle from the thefts at a residence in Chenango Forks, he was charged with 3 Counts of Burglary & Petty Larceny.

Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies in the Town of Delhi and observed an E-Bike traveling on State Highway 10, which is prohibited and the operator was not wearing a helmet as required by law. Deputies conducted a traffic stop and made contact with the driver, who was identified as 51-year-old Daniel White of Meridale, White was charged with felony DWI, Unlawful Operation of an E-Bike on a Highway, Operating E-Bike while Impaired, White was released on an appearance ticket and traffic summonses and is scheduled to appear in the Town of Delhi Court at a later date to answer the charges.

In March 2024, Wallace met a 15-year-old girl in Binghamton, he subjected the Minor Victim to escalating physical, sexual, and psychological abuse, forced her to disguise her appearance by dyeing her hair and wearing a mask, gave the Minor Victim methamphetamine and marijuana, & created child pornography of the Minor Victim, in Binghamton, which was found on his phone. Wallace later brought the victim across State Lines and then back to his Bronx apartment where he assaulted & raped her, she escaped the apartment & contacted police. Wallace faces multiple lengthy jail terms for the convictions.

In September of 2024, State Police were dispatched to the Town of Hancock for shots fired with injuries, Trago shot at his neighbor in the arm while he was walking his dog in front of Trago’s residence, The victim was transported to Albany Medical Center by helicopter but was later released after the bleeding stopped. State Police Forensic Identification Unit Lab was able to match the bullet recovered from the victim’s arm with Trago's firearm.

SUNY Delhi is receiving a $32 million investment from Empire State Development, and the SUNY Construction Fund to build a new mechatronics facility. SUNY Chancellor John King announced that many mechatronics students at Delhi can secure jobs at major local companies like Chobani and IBM. SUNY Delhi’s North Hall will be the site of the program, which will prepare students for careers in advanced manufacturing. The 15,000 square-foot facility is expected to open in 2030.

50 year old Paul Graham of Binghamton was found guilty of 1st Degree Assault and Criminal Possession of a Weapon in Broome County Court. The verdict comes in response to a January 4th incident during which Graham used a cane knife to stab the victim through the heart, causing life-threatening injuries. Delaware County Sheriff's Office arrested 26 year old Jacob Roman of Walton with 2 counts of Grand Larceny, and 1 count of Burglary, On October 18th, Deputies were dispatched to Benton Avenue in the Village of Walton for a reported Burglary in Progress where they located, identified and arrested Roman. On November 21st, Deputies located and arrested Roman on new charges after it was alleged that he had taken the victim’s credit card and made numerous purchases on the card which amounted to over $1,500 without authorization. Roman was transported to the Delaware County Correctional Facility for arraignment.

State Police & Local Law Enforcement Agencies around the State New York State will increase patrols during the holidays to combat issues like impaired and reckless driving, and to deter other crimes like robbery and larceny. Chobani announced that at the East Park Bandstand in Norwich last Saturday, following the 30th annual Norwich Parade of Lights, More than 30 Chobani volunteers distributed 3,000 cases of Chobani products, to thank the community. Chobani will also participate in the annual tree-lighting ceremony at Hyde Park in New Berlin on December 6th, employees plan to give out over 200 cases of yogurt to local families.

State Police are seeking the public’s assistance in locating 25 year old Alora Stott of Oneonta, she is wanted on active warrants for failing to appear for scheduled court dates at Sidney Village Court & Chenango County Court. Stott failed to appear in Sidney on charges of Criminal Possession of a Forged Instrument & Criminal Possession of Stolen Property, from a January 2025 arrest where Stott was in possession of a stolen checkbook and multiple forged and stolen checks. Stott is also wanted by Chenango County Court for failing to appear on charges of Criminal Possession of Stolen Property, where she & 3 others were found in possession of a stolen Pickup Truck, Anyone with information regarding Stott’s whereabouts is asked to contact State Police at (607) 561-7400.

The State Department of Health is alerting the public to an increase in measles cases in parts of the state. To date, there 35 total cases , with 16 in Upstate Counties, New Yorkers are urged to be up to date on their measles, mumps and rubella vaccines. The Broome County Sheriff's Office and family members of a missing Vestal man are still seeking answers to help locate 69 year old Eddie Rouhana, who been missing since January 11th. Rouhana was last seen at his business, Cars-R-US, located at 1170 of Upper Front Street in the Town of Chenango. Cell phone records show his phone was last used later that same day. The Rouhana family is offering a $20,000 reward for any information that leads directly to Eddie Rouhana’s whereabouts. 39 year old Tanya Carson of Masonville was convicted in Delaware County Court today to Endangering the Welfare of an Incompetent or Physically Disabled Person in the First Degree. The investigation began when a 14-year-old disabled child was found unresponsive on the bathroom floor, the unconscious child was airlifted to Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse, where it was discovered that he had methamphetamine in his system. Carson admitted that she & 2 male individuals had been using methamphetamine in the same home as the disabled child and the child must have accessed the illicit substance, Carson will be sentenced on January 20th.

54 year old James Baker pleaded guilty in Broome County Court to Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance and Criminal Possession of a Weapon. Baker admitted to possessing a significant quantity of methamphetamine, fentanyl, a loaded .38 caliber revolver, about $1400 in cash from suspected drug sales as well as drug paraphernalia. Baker will face 8 years in State Prison with 3 years of post-release supervision for the drug charge, and 8 years in State Prison with 5 years of post-release supervision for the Weapons charge, The sentences will run concurrently. Baker was arrested on March 6, after the Broome County Special Investigations Unit Task Force executed a Search Warrant at 10 Cary Street in Binghamton.
The Otsego County Sheriff’s Office arrested 42 year old Amy Jones of Oneonta for felony DWI, aggravated unlicensed Operation, open container in a vehicle along with other similar charges, following a traffic stop in the Town of Oneonta. Jones was intoxicated by alcohol & was also found to have a revoked driver’s license in New York State for 2 previous DWI convictions, She was processed and turned over to Otsego County Corrections pending Centralized Arraignment.

Broome County Sheriff's Office & area firefighters responded Friday to the report of a car crashing into a house in the Town of Union. Responding deputies found that the driver, an 82-year-old female, was attempting to back out of a residential driveway and mistakenly accelerated forward off the driveway and into the adjacent house, rupturing a natural gas line. NYSEG was alerted and the gas line was turned off, nearby residents were temporarily evacuated, The driver was transported to UHS Wilson Medical Center for minor injuries. No charges were filed.
Last week was Crash Responder Safety Week, and State Troopers joined the State DOT to focus on Move Over Law violations. Troopers from the Troop C Traffic Incident Management Unit teamed up with DOT crews on I-81 in Cortland County and I-88 in the town of Otego. On November 20th, Troopers issued 30 tickets on I-81 in Cortland County and 9 tickets on I-88 in the town of Otego, on November 21, Troopers issued 39 tickets on I-81 in Cortland County. New York State implemented the Move Over Law in 2010 to reduce crashes involving emergency responders stopped along the roadway. The law later expanded to include hazard vehicles, tow trucks, and highway workers. In 2023, the law expanded again, requiring drivers to slow down and move over for any vehicle stopped on the roadway.

The New York State Department of Health has sent out an alert, warning New Yorkers or a new scam. Health department officials stated that Telephone scammers are mimicking the Department, some New Yorkers have been receiving phone calls from people identifying themselves as a Department of Health Employee, they will ask for information about a controlled substance prescription, adding to the confusion, the caller ID may even say the caller is from the Department of Health. Officials said that the Health Department will not make such calls to private citizens, they advise people who receive these calls to hang up & alert local law enforcement.
