Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 48 year old Aaron Vandusen of Unadilla for Criminal Use of a Firearm, Criminal Possession of a Weapon, & Criminal Contempt. On November 29th, Otsego County 911 received a call regarding a male subject who had suffered a gunshot wound in a vehicle, it was determined that Vandusen had fashioned a homemade pistol even though he was prohibited from possessing firearms due to a previous felony conviction, he was attempting to enter a vehicle and dropped the homemade firearm which discharged in to his abdomen & groin area. He was taken to Wilson Hospital in Johnson City. State Police and Otsego County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched Vandusen's residence Thursday for an unrelated complaint, he was arraigned in Otsego County Centralized Arraignment and released on his own recognizance pending future court action.

The United States Attorney’s Office announced that 33 year old Dupray Jordan of Binghamton entered a guilty plea in US District Court for possessing fentanyl and methamphetamine with the intent to sell, possessing a firearm in furtherance of drug trafficking, and possessing a firearm and ammunition as a convicted felon, in connection with a warrant executed in November of 2021. Jordan faces up to 20 years in prison, a series of fines, when he is sentenced on May 8, 2024 in Syracuse.

The Chenango County Sheriff’s Office arrested 45 year old Tracy Boyer of Columbus following a six-month investigation involving multiple complaints of burglaries and thefts. Boyer was working as a Home Health Aide, she is accused of stealing from her clients, she has been charged with 2nd and 3rd degree grand larceny, 2 counts of 2nd degree burglary, 3 counts of conspiracy, & making a false written statement, she faces court action shortly.
The State Division of Consumer Protection reminds shoppers of laws that protect consumers about holiday returns. The Department recommends that consumers carefully review and understand what to look for when reviewing return and refund policies. If the retailer does not post a return policy, the law requires the retailer to accept returns of unused, undamaged merchandise within 30 days of the purchase date, with a receipt. For retailers that allow returns, State law does not require refunds to be given in any specific manner. Chenango County Sheriff’s Office arrested 32 year old Keith Tompkins of Oxford for several counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, 9 counts of Criminally Using Drug Paraphernalia, after deputies observed a male, laying on the floor in the back of the vehicle, attempting to conceal himself by hiding under automotive parts. Tompkins had an active arrest warrant out of the Village of Oxford Court for Unlawful Fleeing of a Police Officer. Tompkins was in possession of over 2 ounces of crack cocaine, about 4 ounces of crystal Methamphetamine, 1,150 wax envelopes of Fentanyl, packaging material, digital scales, and over $2,000 in cash from suspected drug sales. Tompkins was arraigned and was remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility without bail. Tompkins is to appear in Chenango County Court at a later date.

Acting State Police Superintendent Dominick Chiumento today honored 232 new State Troopers as they graduated from the 213th session of the Basic School of the New York State Police Academy. The ceremony was held at the Empire State Plaza Convention Center in Albany. Today’s graduation increases the State Police ranks to 4,781 sworn members. 26 of the new Troopers will be assigned to Troop C in Sidney.

Delaware County Sheriff's office arrested 60 year-old John Necci of Portlandville after deputies conducted a traffic-stop for Speeding Sunday on State Highway 23 in the Town of Davenport. Necci was traveling at about 80 miles per hour in a posted 55 mile per hour zone, Deputies stopped Necci, he was charged with aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and Speeding, he was released and directed to appear in the Davenport Town Court on a later date to answer those charges.

32 year old Kyle Oakley of South Kortright pleaded guilty to 3rd degree Burglary in Delaware County Court. Oakley was charged following an investigation of forced entry into a seasonal residence during March of 2022. A Deputy responded to the crime scene on March 8, 2022, after the homeowner reported damage to his front door, the Deputy recovered a sweatshirt which was sent to the State Police Crime Lab for DNA extraction, Oakley was subsequently arrested by the Sheriff’s Department. Oakley was sentenced to a 5-year term of felony probation supervision, he was ordered to pay $1,000 in restitution to the homeowner, if he violates probation supervision, he faces a possible resentencing of up to 2 and 1/3 to 7 years in state prison.

Otsego County Officials announced that several roads are closed due to flooding conditions, including County Highway 48 between Chamberlain Hill and Downey Road Spur in Otego, County Highway 4 between Mill Street and Hilton Street in the Town of Butternuts, Miller Road in Pittsfield, Bemis Road from State Highway 51 to Pegg Road in Morris. In Delaware County, State Route 30 in Roxbury has flooding issues, officals in all around counties advise motorists to turn around if they find flooded roads & report them to authorites as soon as possible. Motorists can check 511ny.org for road closures.
The Otsego County Sheriff's Office held a public meeting Monday afternoon, Investigators announced that the occupant of 18 Richards Avenue, 60-year-old Desmond Moan, allegedly fired a gun inside his home severing a gas line. NYSEG was called to 24 Richards Avenue around 8 am Saturday after a report of the smell of gas, that was followed by another report at 14 Richards Ave for a similar issue, then 18 Richards Avenue exploded, the technician was uninjured. The Town of Oneonta code enforcement office has waived fees for building permits for those whose homes were damaged in the blast.

The Delaware County Toys for Tots Campaign collected 1300 Items and many Cash Donations, which will support Nearly 300 Delaware County Families and 600 Children this Christmas season. 58-year-old Joy LaBarr of Binghamton was charged with stealing nearly $32,000 in State pension payments intended for her deceased father-in-law, according to the State Comptroller's office and Broome County District Attorney Michael Korchak. LaBarr’s father-in-law, Jack Burnett, retired in 2006 from the Binghamton Housing Authority. Under the pension option he chose, his wife was to continue receiving payments after his death, however, she predeceased him, so payments should have stopped upon his death in December 2020, No one from the family reported his passing. LaBarr was charged with grand larceny. She was arraigned in Broome County Court & is due back in court on January 12th.
As of mid December, the United Way of Mid Rural New York campaign has reached 50% of its $425,000 goal for Chenango County, about 51% of the Delaware County Goal of $15,000 and 32% of their stated Otsego County Goal of of $80,000. Chenango County Sheriff’s Office executed a search warrant in the Town of Smithville on December 8, that resulted in the arrest of 37 year old Troy Dibble of Smithville. Dibble was taken in custody, he was wanted on a felony arrest warrant for Reckless Endangerment, for allegedly firing numerous rounds from a handgun into a vehicle that was occupied. The investigation also uncovered Dibble's drug sales from within the residence, Office members recovered Heroin, Fentanyl, Methamphetamine, and numerous handguns. Dibble was charged with Criminal possession of a controlled substance, criminal possession of stolen property, criminal possession of a weapon, Criminally using drug paraphernalia, resisting arrest & several other charges, he was arraigned & was remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility on cash bail pending future court action.
A new federal charge was filed Monday against 28 year old Mufid Alkhader, who is accused of firing a shotgun outside a synagogue in Albany. Alkhader was arrested Thursday for possession of a firearm by a prohibited person, he was additionally charged Monday with conspiracy to make a false statement during the purchase of a firearm, he was not eligible to buy a firearm because of a previous protective order, so he had a friend buy the shotgun on his behalf. Alkhader is being held without bail.

Angelino said that he felt that the new Clean Slate bill was unnecessary as there was already a mechanism to have criminal records expunged through the courts for those who have stayed out of trouble after jail, and he felt that the adjustments to the Bail Reform Laws have had little consequence.
The State Office of Cannabis Management has issued a recall on “Jenny’s Zee Zee Gummies" adult-use cannabis product.” The recall states that the products did not undergo the required testing for consumer safety and product quality. the product in question was sold between September 4th and November 1st, consumers should contact the dispensary where it was purchased for more information.

Otsego County Sheriff's Office announced that the investigation into Saturday’s gas explosion on Richards Avenue in Oneonta is still ongoing, and following acquiring information from examination of the scene, interviews, and forensic examinations, they concluded that an action by the resident, 60 year old Desmond Moan resulted in a non-intended natural gas leak, The escaping gases made contact with an ignition source which resulted in the explosion. Inspections and damage assessment is still ongoing, but currently there has been over 50 property parcels, and over 60 residents and their families affected. Initially 43 residents were displaced. The American Red Cross is working with the families providing community resources and services, The State of Emergency remains in effect.
NYSEG reports that about 600 customers are still without power in Delaware & Otsego Counties, following Sunday's heavy rain & snowfall., crews are working to restore power as soon as possible.
The State Police announced it had the highest Trooper candidate processing turnout in over a decade. Over 1,100 candidates attended processing weekend. Trooper candidate processing took place at the New York State Police Academy in Albany, on the weekend of December 2. Candidates can learn about becoming a New York State Trooper and sign up to take the exam today at joinstatepolice.ny.gov. Applications are being accepted until March 4, 2024.

The Town of Oneonta has adjusted the restricted area to the public to properties close to the area around Saturday's explosion & fire at Richards Avenue in Oneonta's West End. Residents within the affected area will be allowed to secure their homes from the outside only, Town of Oneonta Code Enforcement will be on scene with NYSEG to assist residents, the Code Enforcement Office phone number is 607-432-8606. A representative from Mobile Crises Assessment Team is at the Oneonta Town Hall today and Wednesday at starting at 10:00 AM for anyone who needs assistance, their phone number is 315-732-6228.
NYSEG is reporting over 3000 customers without power this afternoon, following the heavy wet snow over the region. Crews are working to restore power as quickly as possible. Most of the power outages were in the Middle & Eastern townships in Delaware County.
The Unadilla Fire was dispatched to a possible structure fire in the town of Unadilla on Kilkenny Road, at about 4:15 Saturday afternoon. Additional personnel were called in from Franklin, Wells Bridge, and Sidney Fire departments, it took approximately 25 minutes to get the fire knocked down.
Delaware County Officials are aware of a complaint filed in the Northern District of New York by The Reporter. Officials can not make any comment at this time as the matter is in pending litigation, but officials deny all claims against the County as well as any individual named as a defendant in that matter, and will vigorously defend the action. The County was sued last week by the Reporter, as they claim that the action by the Board of Supervisors to remove The Reporter as the County's official paper for the publishing of legal notices, was in retaliation for coverage of county affairs by the Reporter's staff.

A man was arrested Thursday afternoon after he fired a shotgun in the parking area of an Albany synagogue. No one was injured during the incident at the Temple Israel and the suspect was an unidentified 28-year-old man, who was quickly arrested, he made "threatening statements," during the incident. Police said that an early childhood center with at least two dozen preschoolers were on the premises. The parents were contacted, the facility went immediately into lockdown, Federal law enforcement is currently leading the investigation.

State Comptroller's office has completed audits of municipalities around the state, an audit of the Town of Colesville found that Officials did not always use a competitive process when purchasing goods or services and some officials were unfamiliar with the town's procurement policy requirements. The men left in a dark colored sedan with what appeared to be a white license plate. State Police are asking for the public's assistance in locating 42 year old Gabrielle Becker, who is missing from Roxbury, since November 24th. She is described as a white female, 5'7", 130 pounds with light brown shoulder length curly hair. Becker does not have a vehicle & maybe utilizing public transportation, anyone with information is asked to contact State Police at 561-7400.
State Police & other state agencies responded to a commercial vehicle crash at I-88 in Duanesburg, Tuesday morning. The investigation has determined a tractor-trailer traveling exited the road and traveled down a steep ravine, carrying multiple large cylinders containing compressed natural gas. The driver was removed and transported to Albany Medical Center with serious injuries and is currently listed in critical condition. I-88 was closed between exit 24 and exit 25 for the investigation & clean up, there were no home or business evacuations & there was no fire or explosion as a result of this crash. The name of the driver will not be released at this time. The investigation into the cause of this crash is ongoing.

On August 25, 2022, the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children received a cyber tip that an individual account had downloaded a sexually explicit image of a child in Franklin, records were seized from the Microsoft Corporation and on September 29, 2023, Lane was arrested and charged with 2 counts of Possessing a Sexual Performance by a Minor. Lane will be sentenced to a ten-year period of felony probation supervision and will be required to register as a sex offender.

A federally housed inmate at the Broome County Correctional Facility is facing 17 felony charges after investigators found fentanyl, PCP and other contraband hidden in his cell. On October 24th, the Corrections Criminal Investigations Unit conducted cell searches, 41 year old Freddie Brown of Baldwinsville was charged with multiple Counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, 11 Counts of Promoting Prison Contraband, Officers seized fentanyl, PCP, synthetic cannabis, & tobacco, Brown was arraigned for the charges in the Town of Dickinson Court earlier this month.
Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 46 year old Joseph Ogborn of Otego for possessing social media accounts not listed on the sex offender registry. Ogborn is a level 3 sex offender, he was charged with 2 counts of Sex Offender Failure to Register, he was located today by investigators and parole officers and taken in to custody, bail was recommended by the Otsego County District Attorney's Office at $5,000 cash, $5,000 credit card and $50,000 bond.

Attorney General Letitia James today announced the takedown of a major drug trafficking ring that was distributing heroin and fentanyl, as well as powder and crack cocaine in Rensselaer, Albany, Saratoga, Schenectady, and Dutchess counties. The takedown resulted in the indictment of 25 individuals charged with 164 crimes and recovered cocaine, heroin laced with fentanyl, which have a street value of approximately $350,000 plus 4 handguns, 2 large capacity ammunition feeding devices, and the seizure of over $50,000 in cash.
A Lawsuit was filed in Broome County Supreme Court against the Vestal School District where a former Vestal High School student alleges that economics teacher Robert Carr asked her to meet him, he allegedly kissed the victim numerous times, groped her inappropriately and continued to force sexual activity upon her until she moved to the state of Texas and changed her phone number. The lawsuit claims that School Officials did not take any action against Carr after learning of the accusations.

On Tuesday, Broome County Sheriff’s Deputies assigned to the US Marshal’s Regional Fugitive Task Force arrested 22 year old Nathan Williams Jr. of Endicott, at 68 Thorp Street in the City of Binghamton. Williams was wanted by the Endicott Police Department for Murder in connection with the shooting death of 25-year-old Molique Dawson in Endicott in July. The Metro SWAT Team of the Binghamton Police Department executed the search warrant and Williams was successfully taken into custody after a 5 hour standoff, Williams was transported to the Broome County Sheriff’s Correctional Facility, arraigned at Central Arraignment and is currently being held without bail.

State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation at Binghamton arrested 48 year old Stacie Congdon of Windsor for 3rd degree Grand Larceny. An investigation revealed that while volunteering for the Windsor Town Fair, Congdon made several unauthorized debit card purchases and cash withdrawals totaling over $10,000 between May and September 2023. Congdon was arrested and then turned over to the Broome County Correctional Facility for Arraignment. On September 29, Congdon was arrested for 2nd degree Grand Larceny, for allegedly stealing over $50,000 from the nonprofit, Punch Out Parkinson’s Inc.

Members of the U.S. Marshal’s Fugitive Task Force arrested Jade Pittsley Tuesday, she was wanted by the U.S. Marshals in Albany on an arrest warrant for escaping from federal custody. Pittsley was under the supervision of the Federal Bureau of Prisons and was afforded an opportunity to complete the final portion of her sentence at a halfway house in Albany to assist in her reentry to the community, she failed to show up & a warrant was issued for her arrest. Pittsley was located in Johnson City where she was observed leaving a retail store and, as she attempted to get into a nearby vehicle, task force members took her into custody. Officers found more than 40 grams of methamphetamines in her possession, she was transported to the Broome County Sheriff’s Office and charged with felony narcotics possession.

State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli and State Police announced the arrest of Utica City School District Superintendent Bruce Karam and the former Utica Mayor and School Board President Louis LaPolla. Karam was using school money and resources to send election mailers in support of school board candidates that he favored and who determined his contract, salary and authority. He also is accused of using school resources to send invitations for a non-school related fundraiser for a purported charity run by LaPolla. LaPolla was allegedly aware that school resources were being used on his behalf. Karam also allegedly tried to cover up his actions by attempting to persuade school district employees to lie that the resources being used for a valid purpose.

State Police Major Crimes Unit members were in southern Vermont searching an area of forest for the remains of Sara Anne Wood, about 30 miles east of Albany. Wood was abducted while riding her bicycle 30 years ago in a remote area of the Town of Frankfort, & was killed by Lewis Lent of Massachusetts, Over 80 officers from the State Police assisted in the search, which concluded on Thursday, No remains were found in the search.

State Police & The FBI arrested 43 year old Michael Hilliard of Horseheads November 11th, following an investigation into hazardous materials used for making bombs was found Hilliard's residence. On November 6th, a local Highway Department employee found a possible explosive, the State Police Bomb Disposal Unit and FBI responded and made the explosive safe. On November 11th Hilliard was apprehended and charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the First Degree (B Felony). He was arraigned and remanded to the Chemung County Jail. On November 12th, State Police executed a search warrant at Hilliard’s residence, they located several suspicious hazardous materials inside the residence & the immediate surrounding the residence was evacuated. State Police are working in conjunction with the FBI for the disposal of all hazards. Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact the New York State Police at 585-398-4100.
State Police are requesting the public’s assistance in locating a 2019 or newer white Volvo semi-truck with damage to the front passenger side. Police said that 40 year old John Viviano of Sidney was pronounced dead at the scene, State Police at Troop E investigated the fatal car-pedestrian crash that occurred on I-86 near exit 38 in the village of Bath, Police beleive that a westbound vehicle on I-86 struck Viviano between Friday night & Saturday Morning, The vehicle did not stop, and State Police is requesting the public’s assistance to identify the vehicle, which may have significant front-end damage. The Broome County Special Investigations Unit Task Force arrested 3 people last Wednesday in a major drug bust in Binghamton. arrested were 39-year-old Rayshawn Thompson, 38-year-old Derrick Brooks and 39-year-old Brandy Myers were charged with multiple felonies after the Task Force officers executed a search warrant at 24 Robinson Street. Officer seized a loaded handgun, fentanyl, Methamphetamine, cocaine, Suboxone Strips & $4,500 in suspected drug proceeds, packaging materials, all 3 were transported to the Binghamton Police Department, and were processed & were being held on various felony weapon & drug charges.
State Police arrested 31 year old Kevin Carter Jr. of Binghamton, for 3rd degree Robbery and Criminal Possession of a Weapon. Troopers were dispatched to a reported robbery at Speedway in the town of Union. Troopers located Carter who was found to be in possession of metal knuckles. The investigation determined that Carter made a small purchase but when the register was open, he reached over the counter and forcefully took a sum of money, however, he left his wallet with his ID on the counter during the incident. Carter was transported to the Broome County Correctional Facility for arraignment.

State Police arrested 4 women after a theft at the Oneonta Walmart on October 20th. A Trooper was dispatched to a report of the women walking with over $1,000 in merchandise. Troopers were able to locate and arrest all 4 women all were charged with Grand Larceny, they are identified as 19 year old Miranda Cole of Norwich, 18 year old Shania Reynolds-Broyles of North Bellmore, 19 year old Nevaeh Moore of Brooklyn, & 19 year old Samantha Sawyer of New York City, all will appear in Oneonta Town Court on December 5, 2023.
Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested a 16 year old female juvenile for multiple charges following a warrant arrest on November 15th in the City of Oneonta. The juveniles was charged with 2 counts each for Resisting Arrest & Obstruction of Governmental Administration & 1 count each for Escape, Disorderly Conduct, Harassment, Assault & Felony Assault. she is accused of resisting arrest, assaulting staff of the Probation Office following arraignment at the Otsego County Office Building, she was released to a 3rd party & will appear in court at a later date.

The House Ethics panel says it has found "substantial evidence" of lawbreaking by Congressman George Santos, and has referred its findings to the Justice Department.
