State Police are reminding the public that the New York State Police PBA does not solicit money by phone. Recently, State Police have seen reports that someone from a “607” area code is contacting citizens and seeking donations. Anyone who receives one of these phone calls, do not give out your personal information and hang up.

The Broome County District Attorney's Office announced that 30-year-old Jordann Maroney of Norwich pleaded guilty to Criminal Possession of a Firearm after she was in possession of an illegal and unlicensed .22 caliber revolver, cocaine, and methamphetamine during a traffic stop in the Town of Barker in March. Maroney will be sentenced at a later date.

Chenango County Sheriff's Office arrested 27 year old Austin DeMuth of Guilford following a vehicle pursuit Monday afternoon with a motorcycle, from the Town of Smithville & into Cortland County & Broome County. DeMuth was taken into custody, following a pursuit on foot in Whitney Point, he was transported to Wilson Hospital with minor injuries, & he was charged with Unlawful fleeing, Obstruction of Governmental Administration, Resisting Arrest and numerous traffic violations. DeMuth also had a warrant out of the Town of Norwich Court, he was arraigned in the City of Norwich Court and was remanded with no bail and is to return to court on a later date.

Chenango County Sheriff's Office responded Wednesday to a report of a trespass in progress at a Town of Norwich residence. A male and two females were found and detained at the location, the vehicle driven to the residence was reported stolen from New Hartford in June. Deputies Arrested Aaron Gabriel, Tami Lyn Gray of Norwich and Jennifer Pollock of Norwich, for 2nd degree Burglary, Criminal Possession of Stolen Property and Conspiracy, all are being held at the Chenango County Correctional Facility.

The Chenango County Historical Society announced their Summer Barn Party, celebrating 175 years of the Chenango County Fair, tonight from 6:00 to 8:30 PM in the Society’s Loomis Barn, at 41 Rexford Street in Norwich. The Norwich DRI Local Planning Committee will be holding a meeting today at 3:30 PM in the Community Room at Commerce Chenango at 15 South Broad Street in Norwich. The LPC will officially vote on the final slate of projects to be recommended for DRI funding and included in Norwich’s Strategic Investment Plan. This meeting is open to the public.

The Gus Macker tournament gets underway today in Norwich, with early registration, with hundreds of teams participating in the annual tournament, which returns after a 2 year break due to the pandemic. Jamey Mullen is one of the organizers & he told WCDO News that this a family event:

Norwich City Police arrested 42 year old Todd Jackson of Norwich for allegedly setting a dumpster on fire at a Norwich senior living facility in the early morning hours on Saturday, April 30th. The fire damaged the dumpster & surrounding fences, The Norwich Fire department quickly extinguished the fire and no injuries were reported. Jackson was arrested Thursday for 2nd & 3rd degree criminal mischief and 5th degree arson, he was arraigned in Norwich City Court and held on $10,000 bail.

The Bainbridge Rotary Club is sponsoring their 19th Bike A-Thon tomorrow at General Clinton Park. The proceeds from pledges will be used to purchase a refrigerator unit at the Bainbridge Community Center, more information is available at 607-226-7744.

The Gus Macker Basketball Tournament is returning to Norwich this summer after a 2 year break due to the COVID 19 pandemic, with the tournament at the Norwich High School, Organizer Tom Revoir said that certified referees are needed:

The Northeast Classic Car Museum is raffling off a 1965 Mustang Convertible this year. The drawing will be held at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, October 12th, in the Lobby of the Museum on Rexford Street in Norwich. The raffle is open to U.S. residents age 18+. The City of Norwich was selected as a recipient of a $10 million Downtown Revitalization Initiative grant. An informational session regarding an Open Call for Project Proposals will be held virtually on Thursday, February 24th at 6:00 PM. Projects submitted under this Open Call will be reviewed by the Norwich DRI Local Planning Committee to be considered for inclusion in the Norwich Strategic Investment Plan. Delaware County Public Health reported 100 new Cases of COVID 19 for the week of February 12th to the 18th, with 1 more death reported. Delaware County has had 14 deaths from the virus since the beginning of the year.
