Governor Cuomo announced that individuals in Buffalo, Oneida
County & Suffolk County tested negative, but 4 more individuals in
Westchester County have tested positive for Coronavirus.  Governor Cuomo reported this afternoon that
the 50 year old Attorney from Westchester County is hospitalized with the
Coronavirus, his wife, 20 year old son & 14 year old Daughter tested
positive & are convalescing at home, the neighbor that drove the attorney
to the hospital also tested positive.
Those at risk include the elderly, those with compromised Immune systems
& those with lung & sinus conditions or chronic diseases.  The Governor also announced that SUNY
students studying in China, Italy, Japan, Iran and South Korea, will have those
studies suspended due to the coronavirus outbreaks in those countries.


A.O. Fox Hospital CEO Jeff Joyner announced that the
overnight hours would be cut at the Emergency Room at their Tri-Town Campus in
Sidney; Joyner told WCDO news what that is being done:

The change in hours at the emergency room will begin May
1st, Joyner said that they are looking to add more services during the daytime
hours, and new CT equipment will be installed shortly.


Helios Care announced that they have received the Mother
Cabrini Health Foundation grant to fund the CHOICES program, which provides
person-centered, in-home care and care coordination. The grant will fund
palliative care for patients who have a chronic disease or face a serious
illness and are frequent visitors to the Emergency Department or admissions to
the hospital.   More information about

Delaware County Sheriff’s
Deputies arrested 20-year-old Michael Scarimbolo of Meredith Tuesday for 2nd
degree harassment.  Scarimbolo is accused
of punching a vehicle window and threatening to physically strike the operator
of the vehicle during a confrontation in the Town of Meredith on February 16th,
he faces court action today in the Town of Meredith Court.

A Missing Vulnerable Adult Alert has been issued for 77 year
old Robert Shield, who suffers from Alzheimer's disease, and is missing from
Oswego County.  Shield is described as
5'8" 145 Pounds with Blond Hair, Blue Eyes; he was driving a 2019 Nissan
Rogue with License Plate Number JEM-1426.
He was last seen Tuesday Afternoon in Pennellville New York, and may be
in the Greater Binghamton area, and may be heading for Myrtle Beach South
Carolina.  Anyone with information is
asked to call 911 or State Police at 315-366-6000.


Governor Cuomo announced Monday evening that he would direct
state health insurers to waive fees related to coronavirus testing in the
state, following increased fears of an outbreak in the U.S.  Cuomo wrote that cost should not be a barrier
for New Yorkers receiving screenings for the coronavirus behind an outbreak
that began in China and has since killed more than 3,000 people worldwide,
infecting tens of thousands more.


Nearly $5 million in funding for technology investments
through the State's Smart Schools Bond Act is being awarded to school districts
represented by State Senator Jen Metzger of the 42nd District.  Schools receiving funding from the $2 billion
Smart Schools Bond Act include the Franklin Central School District with
$337,323 for High-Tech Security


Sidney Chamber of Commerce will hold their next meeting this

14 people were taken into custody in Broome County Wednesday on a variety of drug trafficking charges.  Arraignments began in US District court in Binghamton yesterday, Federal Prosecutors announced that all of those taken into custody were members of the Bloods Street Gang, & were known as "MacBallers."  Prosecutors accuse the arrested as being part of a large drug trafficking ring that operated out of New York City and into the Southern tier, distributing large quantities of cocaine, heroin, and marijuana since 2009.


A report of a missing Cooperstown woman had a favorable outcome this morning.  34-year-old Megan Hartmann of Cooperstown & Denver Colorado is a SUNY Oneonta graduate student, she was reported missing Monday, she has been found safe in Myrtle Beach South Carolina, according to the Cooperstown Police Department.   The Otsego County Sheriff's Office assisted in the investigation


Lawmakers are continuing to work on the state budget, as the deadline approaches early next week.  Assemblyman Bill Magee is on the conference committee negotiating the Agricultural portion, which has some glaring omissions:

The Otsego County sheriff’s department arrested 24-year-old Kristen Rudnitsky of Oneonta for allegedly stealing & selling a vehicle last year.  The investigation alleges that Rudnitsky forged the owner’s name on DMV documents and sold the vehicle to a Binghamton resident.  Rudnitsky was already in the Otsego County Jail on drug charges, she was arraigned in town of Oneonta Court & was returned to the County Jail, faces action on the new charges in April.


Bassett Healthcare Network announced that Dr. Vance Brown or Portland Maine has been selected as President and Chief Executive Officer, starting July 1st.  Dr. Brown will replace Doctor William Streck, who is retiring this year after 30 years at Bassett.  Dr. Brown comes to Bassett from Maine Health in Portland, where he has been Chief Medical Officer since 2008.


State Police arrested 31-year-old Jason Barnhart of Bloomville on charges of DWI & reckless driving.  Barnhart is accused of driving while intoxicated on state route 10 through Delaware county, at speeds around 100 miles an hour, and for throwing a beer can out of his vehicle.  Barnhart will appear in Kortright town court on April 15th to answer the charges.


New York State is getting more than $28 million from the federal government to fund fish and wildlife conservation and recreation projects. That’s the state’s share of the nearly $1.1 billion in excise tax revenues, paid by sportsmen and sportswomen, that the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service will distribute to state fish and wildlife agencies nationwide. The Fish and Wildlife Service allocates the funds to all 50 states, through two programs funded by excise taxes, generated by the sale of sporting firearms, ammunition, archery equipment, fishing equipment and tackle, and fuel taxes on motorboats and small engines.


Girls on the Run of Central New York will host their 2nd Annual Guys Night Out at Brewery Ommegang on Saturday, April 5 from 6 to 9:30 p.m. This guys-only event is designed to create awareness of the program and to raise funds to support the nonprofit organization that provides a transformational learning program for girls in 3rd-8th grade to unleash confidence through accomplishment while establishing a lifetime appreciation of health and fitness.  More information is available at girlsontheruncny.org.

State Troopers in Sidney arrested 52 year old Mark Meyers of Guilford, for fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle, felony driving while intoxicated with a BAC of .15%, plus numerous  vehicle and traffic law charges.  The arrest followed a traffic stop on State Route 8 that concluded on High Bridge Road in Guilford. Meyers was arraigned in the town of Guilford court and remanded to the Chenango county jail on $8,000 bail.


The Sidney American Legion Post# 183 is sponsoring a tribute & fundraiser for the Sidney Fire Department, on Saturday September 28th, at 2:00 PM.  Legion spokesman Larry Halbert explains.

State Police arrested 33-year-old Eleanor Black of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina for 20 felonies.  Black was charged with 3rd degree Grand Larceny, 7 counts of Criminal Possession of a Forged Instrument, 6 counts of Falsifying Business Records, and 6 counts of Offering a False Instrument for Filing.  The charges followed a yearlong investigation of crimes in the Schoharie Valley Region.  Black was arraigned and will return to Town of Esperance Court at a later date.


The Binghamton Mets Released their 2014 Schedule.  The B-Mets set a team record with 86 victories in 2013, sending them into the eastern league playoffs for the first time in 7 seasons.  The 23rd season at NYSEG Stadium in Binghamton begins on April 3rd against the Akron Aeros. U.S. Sen. Charles Schumer and former Buffalo Bills quarterback Jim Kelly will work together to ensure that funding will continue for newborns to be tested for over 40 fatal diseases. The Newborn Screening Saves Lives Reauthorization Act of 2013 assures federal funding so newborns can receive a blood test for fatal diseases that, if caught early, can be diagnosed and treated early. If the bill is not reauthorized by Sept. 30 the federal funding for newborn screenings could end. Kelly’s son Hunter died in 2005 from a fatal genetic disease that, if caught early, can be treated.


The Emerald Ash Borer is spreading more quickly than expected, according to Cornell Cooperative Extension in Chenango County.  The Emerald Ash Borer will only affect Ash trees, which make up about 10 percent of trees in the region. Officials say the only way to protect the trees is to inject the tree with insecticide. Any trees without the insecticide will begin to weaken and die over the next decade. Binghamton University hosted a workshop yesterday regarding funding for small businesses, hosted by the university's Small Business Development Center. Guest speakers talked about the availability of funding so businesses can expand their businesses and commercialize products.
