47 year old Michael Thiel of Sidney, appeared in Delaware County Court Tuesday and pleaded guilty to 1 count of Criminal Possession of a Weapon & 1 count of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance. Thiel will be sentenced to a term of 2-4 years in state prison for the weapons charge, and 3 years of incarceration and 2 years of post-release supervision for the controlled substances charge. On September 10th, 2024, Sidney Police executed of a search warrant at 50 Main Street in Sidney with the assistance of the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office Special Response Team. A loaded pistol as well as narcotics were recovered from the residence, leading to Thiel's arrested & convictions.
U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand discussed legislation to reduce the cost of prescription drugs for seniors as millions of older adults struggle to afford their prescription medication. As a result, many resort to cutting pills in half, skipping doses entirely, or switching to over-the-counter medication in an attempt to save money:

Gillibrand’s legislation would lower the cost of some of the most expensive and commonly used prescription medications by enhancing the Department of Health and Human Services’ ability to negotiate directly with pharmaceutical companies on the price of certain prescription drugs covered under Medicare Part D. This will lower costs for people with Medicare while simultaneously reducing drug spending by the federal government.
The May heavy metal haul out by Waste Recovery Enterprises in Sidney was another success, as Waste Recovery donated the money they received for the collected scrap metal, and gave a check to Erin Insinga at Delaware Valley Humane Society, live on WCDO this morning:

The Heavy Metal haul Out is held twice a year now, the money goes for upgrades or needs for the animals at the Humane Society, more information about adopting animals is available at (607) 563-7780.
The Amphenol Corporation will be holding an open house on Saturday July 19th to celebrate operating for 100 years in Sidney, spokesman Chris Capello explains:

43 year old Steven Baker of Sidney appeared in Delaware County Court Wednesday and was arraigned on a sealed indictment, which was unsealed with a charge of 3rd degree arson. The Indictment alleges that on May 19th, Baker and a co-defendant stole a motor vehicle and intentionally set fire to it in the Town of Sidney. Baker was remanded to the Delaware County Correctional Facility on $50,000 cash bail.
42 year old Jessica Pidgeon of Oneonta appeared in Delaware County Court Wednesday and pleaded guilty to 3rd degree Burglary, Pidgeon & several co-defendants unlawfully entered the former Tractor Supply in the town of Davenport with the intent to commit larceny in April, she admitted in court that they intended to steal copper, she was released to the supervision of the Delaware County Probation Department pending sentencing in August, she will likely be sentenced to 5 years of felony probation supervision.

Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 63 year old Keith Hansen, of Oneonta, for Sex Offender Failure to Notify Change of Address, following an investigation in to a registered sex offender who relocated from his residence in the Town of Oneonta and did not make the proper notifications to the Sex Offender Registry. During the investigation, a warrant was issued out of the Town of Middlefield for Hansen after he failed to appear for court proceedings for a previous sex offender violation charge. Deputies responded to the Oneonta Police Department and took custody of Hansen Monday on the active warrant, he was processed and turned over to corrections staff to await Centralized Arraignment.
Chenango County Sheriff’s Office arrested 52 year old Travis Button of Norwich for Failure to Notify Law Enforcement of an Address Change. Button is a level 2 sex offender, he is required to report a change of address to authorities where he is residing, Button failed to do so, and he is currently held at the Chenango County Correctional Facility and is to appear in the Town of Norwich Court at a later date.
Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies responded Sunday in the Town of Kortright to a motor vehicle accident on County Highway 29, Deputies made contact with the driver, 23-year-old Jillian Bishop of Newburgh. Deputies arrested and charged Bishop with Driving While Intoxicated, Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated, Failure to Keep right and Open container in a Motor vehicle, among other charges, Bishop was processed and released on appearance tickets for Town of Kortright Court at a later date.
The State Department of Labor today released preliminary local area unemployment rates for December 2024. New York State's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate held constant at 4.4% in December 2024. Locally Chenango county had 3.4% unemployment, Delaware County 3.9% and Otsego County 3.8%

A Delaware County Grand Jury returned a 4-count indictment against 51 year old Michael Thiel of Sidney, for Criminal Possession of a Weapon, Criminal Possession of a controlled substance, and Criminal Nuisance, Thiel is accused of possessing a pistol with the intent to use it unlawfully against another, he is also accused of possessing methamphetamine in the Village of Sidney with intent to sell, last October and that he maintained a premises in the Village of Sidney where persons came to gather for the purpose of engaging in the unlawful sale of narcotics.
Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies arrested 86 year old James Lieberman following a complaint involving a Juvenile at the Delhi Nursing and Rehab Center in the Town of Delhi. Lieberman is accused of exposing himself to a child less than 16 years of age, he was charged with public lewdness & endangering the welfare of a child and he is ordered to appear in Town of Delhi Court at a later date.
Delaware County Sheriff's Office announced that Corporal Kyle Karcher, Deputy Justin Mohr, and Deputy Victor Altheim have been awarded the Deputy of the Year Award from the New York State Sheriffs' Institute. On September 4th, 2024, all three responded to a shots fired call in the Town of Hancock, They arrived on scene to find that a victim had been shot while walking his dog and had retreated into his residence with his girlfriend, as the perpetrator allegedly continued firing at their home.
