State Police arrested 56 year old Joel Salinas of Bainbridge following a traffic stop on Chenango County Road 35 last Tuesday. Troopers observed a vehicle committing multiple violations, initiated a traffic stop, Troopers observed a sawed-off shot gun and other illegal weapons, Salinas was driving to sell the shotgun, the investigation resulted in the seizure of several other illegally possessed weapons. Salinas was charged with multiple counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon, Criminal Sale of a Firearm, he was processed & transported to the Chenango County Jail for Centralized Arraignment.

Chenango County Sheriff's Office arrested 39 year old Thomas Kopech of Norwich Friday on an active Arrest Warrant from Town of Plymouth Court from an incident on May 31st, where Kopech allegedly broke into a residence in the Town of Plymouth and assaulted the victims inside the home. Kopech then fled the scene before Deputies responded which resulted in the warrant of arrest. Kopech was arrested without incident and arraigned & was remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility on $10,000 cash bail. Kopec is to appear in court on a later date. Kopech was charged with Burglary, Criminal Mischief, Aggravated Criminal Contempt, Aggravated Sexual Abuse, Criminal Obstruction of Breath/Blood Circulation & Unlawful Imprisonment.
State Police are investigating the accidental death of a East Branch Fire Department Assistant Fire Chief Jason McGlone Thursday night, who was responding to a report of a vehicle that had struck a utility pole on State Highway 30 in the town of Hancock. A preliminary investigation determined that a low-hanging electrical wire was in contact with the top of the fire truck, when Assistant Chief McGlone exited the vehicle and made contact with the metal door and the ground, he was electrocuted and was pronounced deceased. The original crash involved a pickup truck operated by 54 year old Joseph Bellows of Downsville that veered off the roadway, struck a guardrail and utility pole. He was transported to Delaware Valley Hospital, he was charged with Driving While Intoxicated & was issued appearance tickets for Hancock Town Court on September 8th, 2025. The investigation into the firefighter’s death remains ongoing.

State Police arrested 72 year old Thomas Jacobson of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania for DWI & Reckless Driving. Troopers received information that a vehicle was traveling the wrong way on State Route 17, they located the vehicle, traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes near Deposit. Troopers attempted to flag down the driver from the opposite lanes but were unable to gain his attention, Jacobson stopped near mile marker 274 in the town of Sanford when another vehicle blocked the roadway. Jacobson was arrested, his BAC was .17%. He was issued appearance tickets to the Sanford Town Court on August 2nd.

Today is Election Day, with the polls open until 9:00 PM tonight. Locally, voters will decide on who fills a seat on the State Supreme Court between Deidre Hay & Cheryl Insinga. Delaware County Sheriff’s Office arrested 42 year old Jason Ransford of South Kortright for Criminal Mischief. Sheriff’s Deputies received a vandalism complaint on October 31st, Ransford is accused of recklessly operated an off-road forklift causing damage to the property of another. Ransford was released on an appearance ticket and directed to appear at the Town of Stamford court to answer the charge.

Broome County Executive Jason Garnar announced a new emergency order that prevents New York City residents from using housing vouchers in Broome County. County officials said the vouchers are part of a New York City program which provides a housing allowance to eligible city families in a shelter or who are homeless. Garnar previously issued an executive order earlier this year that allowed for law enforcement to order busses with migrants to turn back around & not stop in Broome County, as the County was facing its own housing issues.
Broome County Sheriff Fred Akshar and Undersheriff Sam Davis welcomed K9 Raven to the Sheriff's Office today. K9 Raven and her partner and handler, Deputy Thomas Holden have undergone extensive training at Cedar Creek Kennels in Illinois over the past few weeks and are set to conclude their training this month. Raven is a female German Shepherd trained in tracking, protection, drug detection and other skills needed for law enforcement K-9 units.

Local government sales tax collections in New York state totaled $22.1 billion in calendar year 2022, up 12.7%, or $2.5 billion, from 2021 due to strong sales statewide, according to a report released today by State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli. Every county saw some year-over-year growth in sales tax collections in 2022, Yates County had the strongest growth at 21.1%, followed by the counties of Lewis (14.9%), Montgomery (12.4%) and Schoharie (11.8%). Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 19 year old Jason Hoffman of Brooklyn, for Aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and No Tail Lamps, following a traffic stop in the Town of Oneonta on January 30th. Hoffman is accused of operating a vehicle with a suspended driver’s license, he was ordered to appear in Town of Oneonta Court at a later date.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies responded last Thursday to a reported violation of a temporary order of protection in East Branch, 51 year-old Thomas Newman  of Hancock is accused making written contact with the protected party & for allegedly swerving his vehicle towards the protected party, who was walking along State Highway 30.  Newman was charged with 2 counts of criminal contempt & 1 count of harassment, he was remanded to the Delaware County Jail on Cash Bail pending court action.

Governor Cuomo has signed “Gio’s
Bill” named after a 14 year old Giovanni Cipriano of Long island,  the new bill will allow police officers and
firefighters to administer Epinephrine auto-injectors to individuals
experiencing severe allergic reactions.
Cipriano died in October of 2013 from an allergic reaction after eating
a peanut product, and suffered a severe anaphylactic attack.

State Police arrested 33 year old Thomas Shaw of Franklin
for Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs, after a trooper was dispatched to
a report of an overturned vehicle on State Highway 357 in the town of
Franklin.  Minutes before the crash,
multiple citizens had contacted 911 reporting an erratic driver.  Shaw was transported to Bassett Medical
Center; he was later arrested and issued appearance tickets to the town of
Franklin court.
The Chenango Arts Council announced the return of Illusionist

State Police responded to a Delaware County 911 report of a two vehicle crash with serious injuries on River Road in the Town of Sidney. An investigation determined that 39 year old Jason Cunningham of Unadilla was driving his 2005 vehicle on River Road when he entered a sharp curve and drifted into the opposing lane, striking a pickup truck driven by 35 year old Matthias Wesner of Unadilla. Cunningham was transported to Fox hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. An autopsy will be conducted at Lourdes hospital and the results are pending. Wesner received minor injuries in the crash. No tickets have been issued at this time. This investigation is ongoing.
State Police responded to an Otsego County 911 report of motorcycle striking a pickup truck on County Route 11 in the Town of Hartwick. 28 year Kyle Bronson of Cooperstown lost control and crossed into the westbound lane and struck a pickup truck. Bronson was pronounced deceased at the scene due to crash related injuries. The operator of the pickup truck, 66 year old Thomas Stewart of Laurens was not injured. State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit assisted at the scene with the investigation. The investigation is continuing.

Several packages of methamphetamine were seized from Manwarren's residence, he was arraigned in the Town of North Norwich Court and remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility on $50,000.00 cash bail.

Sidney village police Arrested 31 Year old for felony assault, & 2 counts of criminal mischief & attempted criminal mischief early Sunday morning. Thomas Walters Jr. is accused of assaulting his father & His wife during a domestic dispute. Walters also tried to kick out the police car window. Walters was intoxicated & was remanded to the Delaware county jail on $10,000 cash bail pending future court action.
Oneonta Police responded to a 3-car accident Monday morning on I-88 at about 8:30 AM. Police reported that 43 year old Jason Gillis of Brunswick Hills Ohio was distracted by the GPS App on his cell phone, and ran into the back of the car being driven by 22 year old Erin Yelich of Oneonta, which forced her car to spin and hit the guard rail. Yelich was taken to Fox Hospital with minor injuries. A 3rd vehicle was being operated by 47 year old Joseph Dent of Oneonta, who was driving behind Yelich’s car and tried unsuccessfully to maneuver around it., causing Dent's vehicle to flip onto the driver’s side. Gillis was ticketed for use of an electronic device and following too closely. Dent was also ticketed for following too closely.

State Police arrested 37-year-old Jason Thomas of Oneonta for felony DWI, aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle & several other traffic violations. Thomas was observed failing to signal a turn at County Route 11A in the Town of Laurens. The arrest was a felony as Thomas has 2 prior convictions for DWI within the last 10 years. Thomas was arraigned at the Oneonta Town court and was remanded to the Otsego County jail on $1,500 cash bail or $3,000 property bond.

State Police responded to a Tioga County 911 report of a hit and run motor vehicle accident involving two joggers in the Town of Tioga. 41-year-old Daniel Manwarring and 43-year-old Karen Manwarring, when they were struck by a Blue Nissan Xterra that then left the scene. Daniel Manwarring was declared deceased at the scene and Karen Manwarring was transported to Wilson Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.   33-year-old Jason Townsend of Nichols is in custody & faces court action shortly.

The Broome County Sheriff's Office arrested 30-year-old Jason Lamoree of the town of Colesville for cruelty to animals.  Deputies discovered 2 deceased dogs & 2 emaciated & dehydrated dogs on the property, Lamoree was released and ordered to appear in town court at a later date.
New York Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli has called for an overhaul of state programs for restoring contaminated industrial and commercial sites, after the state spent nearly $1 billion to clean up 408 brown fields.  The report states that the state may incur another $3.3 billion in costs from tax credits over the next few years on Brownfield properties, He called for limiting or ending tax incentives while extending liability protections and streamlining regulations for developers.

3 Walton residents have been arrested in connection with a burglary of a village residence last month.  Walton police arrested 25-year-old John Mahler, 32-year-old James Nash, and 28 year old Jason Campbell for 2nd degree burglary, 4th degree grand larceny and 3rd degree grand larceny, Mahler and Nash were also charged with criminal possession of a weapon, and Mahler also was charged with second-degree obstructing governmental administration. Mahler and Nash were sent to DelawareCounty jail on $50,000 bail; Campbell was jailed on $25,000 bail.  The stolen property included a flat-screen television, a gaming system and a rifle; most of the stolen items were recovered.
The Chenango county sheriff’s department arrested 44-year-old Thomas Bates of Norwich for felony DWI, & driving while ability impaired by drugs.  Bates was stopped by officers conducting a road check with an equipment violation, Bates it was found that he was operating the motor vehicle in an intoxicated condition due to narcotics.  Bates was taken into custody & faces court action at a later date.

28-year-old Thomas Tukalo of Edmeston has been arrested on an additional charge of 3rd degree criminal sale of a controlled substance, by the Otsego County Sheriff’s department.   Tukalo has been held in the Otsego county jail since January 25th on a separate drug charge, he was arraigned and was sent back to the county jail on $25,000 bail.
