Delaware County Public Health Services, in collaboration with local hospital partners, released of the 2025-2030 Community Health Assessment and Community Health Improvement Plan, Delaware County Public Health Program Manager Heather Warner explains:

Governor Kathy Hochul announced New York is investing more than $68 million to assist nearly 1,300 low-to-moderate income households across the state. The grants awarded through New York State Homes and Community Renewal (HCR) provide individuals and families, including older adults and veterans, financial support to make accessibility upgrades, complete emergency repairs, replace manufactured homes, and receive rental assistance, as well as down payment assistance when purchasing a first home, awards by Region and Housing Units Impacted for the Southern Tier includes $12,775,091 for 191 homes, A list of the awards can be found at hcr.ny.gov/funding-awards.

State Police responded Thursday afternoon to a crash involving an Amish buggy and a pick-up truck on County Highway 13 in the town of Pittsfield. An investigation at the scene determined that a pick-up truck operated by 26 year old Thomas Aitken of Morris struck the horse and buggy traveling in the same direction on the shoulder of the roadway. The buggy was occupied by 4 children, A 12-year-old female of New Berlin suffered injuries and was transported to Bassett Hospital, 3 other children, were evaluated at the scene but were not transported. The horse sustained fatal injuries, Aitken did not report any injuries and was issued a citation.


Broome County Area Assemblywoman Donna Lupardo, who has served the 123rd Assembly District for more than 20 years, will not seek re-election in November, Lupardo is set to finish out her term and leave the office at the end of 2026.


The Fenimore Chamber Orchestra will present a free Family Concert at 1:30 PM on Saturday, February 7, in the Ballroom of the Cooperstown Village Library on Main Street, as part of Cooperstown's annual Winter Carnival. 20 dogs were removed this week by the Delaware County
Sheriff’s department in the town of Franklin from deplorable conditions, the
dogs have been taken to area shelters, Erin Insinga of the Delaware Valley
Humane Society explains:

“Galumpha: The Beethoven Project” comes to Norwich later
this month as Part of the Binghamton Philharmonic’s yearlong celebration of
Beethoven’s 250th Birthday.  Galumpha

“Galumpha: The Beethoven Project” is also helping to raise
funds for the Chenango Arts Council & the Norwich Theater Company, it  will take place  at 7:00 pm on Saturday, February 22nd at the
Martin W. Kappel Theater at 27 West Main Street in Norwich. Tickets are $20, at

Special Olympics New York and
Glens Falls officials today announced the return of State Fall Games, which is
expected to draw nearly 1,300 athletes, coaches, and families from throughout
the state to Glens Falls this October to compete in seven fall sports: bocce,
cycling, golf, equestrian, soccer, softball, and cross-country running.  State Fall Games was eliminated from the
Special Olympics New York budget five years ago due to financial constraints,  The return of State Fall Games was announced
today at a press conference at City Hall. The Games will be held Friday, Oct.
23 and Saturday, Oct. 24 at sporting venues throughout the Glens Falls and
Queensbury area.

Volunteers for the Susquehanna Society for the Prevention of
Cruelty to Animals will host a Brooks' BBQ Chicken Dinner today at Christ
Episcopal Church, with proceeds going to the shelter. The dinner will be part
of Cooperstown Winter Carnival 2020, will be held from 4:30-6:30 p.m. in the
church Parish Hall at 69 Fair Street.


The Delaware County Chamber of Commerce will hold their next
First Friday networking Breakfast this morning from 8:30 to 10:00 am at the
Belleayre Mountain and Ski Center in Highmount.
The featured speaker for the event is State Senator James Seward.


The Firemen’s Association of the State of New York will kick
off the 15th Annual Firefighter Winter Games in Cortland this weekend, at the
Greek Peak Mountain Resort, volunteer firefighters from across the State,
dressed in full turnout gear, will participate in a variety of winter events
and races throughout the weekend, more information is available at fasny.com
