Governor Cuomo signed legislation to curb the power of independent expenditure campaigns unleashed by the 2010 Supreme Court case Citizens United vs. Federal Election Commission. The legislation strengthen disclosure requirements for political consultants and lobbyists who provide services to sitting elected officials or candidates for elected office by requiring them to register with the state and reveal their clients.

Governor Cuomo & State Leaders announced an agreement on a 5 Point Ethics Reform Plan to toughen election, lobbying, and ethics enforcement laws, including legislation to curb the power of independent expenditure campaigns from the 2010 Supreme Court Citizens United ruling, Area Assemblyman Cliff Crouch commented about the ethics reform package:

The Plan includes the nation's strongest independent expenditure reforms to end coordination in political campaigns, Pension Forfeiture for convicted lawmakers, First Time Disclosure Requirements for Political Consultants, Lobbying Disclosure Reforms & Issue Advocacy Reforms

Governor Cuomo & state lawmakers have a few issues left to deal with in the last days of the 2016 session. Cuomo specifically mentioned Combating the heroin epidemic; increasing access to breast cancer screening and treatment; Passing comprehensive ethics reform; Combating Citizens United; and Updating the Alcohol Beverage Control Law.

The Preceptor Beta Kappa chapter of Beta Sigma Phi will honor Carol Allen of Sidney Saturday, for her service to the Sidney United Way, the Sidney Chamber of Commerce, the Sidney Elementary School, the Sidney Senior Center, and The Delaware County Council for the Aging, & several other organizations. The award will be presented at a luncheon on Saturday at 12:00 PM to be held at the Sacred Heart Community Center on Liberty Street in Sidney.

The annual Big Wheels Golf Tournament, held at the Delhi College Golf Course, will take place Today. The event serves as a primary fundraiser for programs and services, which provide assistance to Delaware County senior citizens, more information is available at 832-5750.

The Unadilla Chamber will have their Annual Dinner on Sunday, at the Unadilla United Methodist Church. the Annual Dinner social hour begins at 4:30 pm and dinner at 5:00 PM. The chamber will honor Wakeman Construction as The Business of the Year and Commitment to Community award will go to the Unadilla Food Pantry.

The annual Big Wheels Golf Tournament, held at the Delhi College Golf Course, will take place on Friday, May 13, 2016, according to the Big Wheels tournament committee. The event serves as a primary fundraiser for programs and services which provide assistance to Delaware County senior citizens. The entry fee this year will be $60, which will be all inclusive, covering greens fees for 18 holes of golf, cart use, guaranteed prizes and a post tournament dinner. Applications for the tournament can be obtained by contacting the Delaware County Office for the Aging at 832-5750.

The United Way of Delaware and Otsego Counties announced that the The CASH Coalition of Otsego and Delaware Counties can still prepare and file state and federal income taxes for free, for taxpayers who made under $62,000.00 in the 2015 tax year. The program is available for use on any home computer or public computers at CDO Workforce Offices, in Oneonta, Sidney or Delhi, at the SFCU branch in Delhi. Also, Volunteer Income Tax Assistance is available for individuals and families who made under $54,000 in the 2015 tax year, They offer free tax preparation and filing by trained individuals under the supervision of volunteer site coordinators, apointments are required by calling Catholic Charities at 432-0061. The city of Oneonta announced today that the citizens campaign for the environment will be conducting a home to home canvass in the city from 4:00 to 9:00 PM Mondays through Fridays now through the month of June. More information is available at 432-6450.
