24 year old Thomas Murray of Binghamton was arraigned in a federal court room on an indictment charging him with Distribution of Child Pornography and Possession of Child Pornography. Murray was arrested following an investigation by the FBI & State Police, he was returned to state custody where he is being held on similar state charges. Murray allegedly distributed child pornography on a web-based messaging facility on 2 separate occasions & he possessed child pornography on 2 devices, which was uncovered following a search warrant conducted on Murray’s residence in 2025. Murray faces a mandatory minimum term of 5 years in federal prison on the distribution charges, a maximum term of 20 years in federal prison for the distribution and possession offenses, a fine of up to $250,000, and a mandatory term of supervised release of between 5 years and life. Murray would also be required to register as a sex offender if convicted.

34 year old Rashima Rollocks of Binghamton, pleaded guilty to 2nd degree Assault in Broome County Court. On June 19, 2023 Rollocks committed a violent assault on a seventy-five-year-old blind man inside his home in the City of Binghamton. Rollocks is scheduled to appear back in court for sentencing on November 7th, where she is expected to receive 7 years in New York State Prison followed by 3 years post-release supervision.
The Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 33 year old Gary Garbera of Cherry Valley following a Grand Larceny investigation. Garbera is accused of stealing a vehicle in the Village of Gilbertsville. Garbera was processed and issued an Appearance Ticket returnable to Town of Butternuts Court.
Governor Kathy Hochul announced that families participating in the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children can receive double the benefits to spend at participating farmers’ markets, helping to supplement their food budgets and purchase healthy, local products. 38 year old Tristan Skeete of Brooklyn was sentenced to additional jail time for assaulting a fellow inmate at the Delaware County Correctional Facility. On February 20th, Corrections Officers of the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office responded to a fight occurring in one of the housing units at the Delaware County Correctional Facility. Upon arrival, officers broke up the fight between Skeete, & 2 other inmates, Corrections Officer Bryce Charles eventually deployed a taser to break up the fight. Skeete appeared in Delaware County Court this week & entered a guilty plea to 3rd degree Assault, he was sentenced to 7 months incarceration, a $25 Crime Victim fee and surcharge, and a $50 DNA fee.

The 8th Annual Savannah Williams Memorial Scholarship Fundraising Golf event will be held this Saturday. The registration starts at 11:00 AM at the Canasawacta Country Club in Norwich, the day will also feature the Beadle Brothers performing at the Pavilion at 5:30 PM. The Scholarship is named after Williams, who was a Norwich High School Graduate who was killed in a motor vehicle accident in 2016 while attending SUNY Geneseo.

State and local law enforcement issued more than 37,000 tickets over the 4th of July enforcement campaign this year, State and local law enforcement charged 1,227 people for driving while impaired by alcohol or drugs. State Police arrested 251 people for DWI, 4,248 for speeding, 1,315 for not wearing a seat belt, 360 for distracted driving, and 219 for failing to abide by the Move Over Law.

OVER 20 DIFFERENT EMERGENCY CREWS SEARCHED FOR THE PLANE YESTERDAY BEFORE DEBRIS WAS FINALLY LOCATED IN A HEAVILY WOODED AREA NEAR LAKE CECIL ROAD AND HERRICK HOLLOW ROAD NORTH OF TROUT CREEK. THE DECEASED WERE IDENTIFIED AS 76 YEAR OLD ROGER BEGGS, 43 YEAR OLD LAURA VAN EPPS, 42 YEAR OLD RYAN VAN EPPS AND THEIR TWO SONS, 12 YEAR OLD JAMES VAN EPPS AND 10 YEAR OLD HARRISON VAN EPPS. Broome County Department of Health released their latest COVID 19 numbers today, with 12 new cases bringing their number of positives to 975. They have had 66 deaths since March, with 770 recoveries & 713 are being monitored by the Department.
Otsego County Department of Health announced today that a bat has tested positive for rabies in the city of Oneonta Wednesday, 4 people were exposed & are undergoing post-rabies exposure treatments. Anyone seeking more information about rabies can call the health department at 547-4230 or visit the County health department website.
Otsego County Health Department reported 3 new cases of COVID 19 today, giving them a total of 102 since March. There are 10 active cases, with 3 hospitalized, 205 are under quarantine since March, 5 have died & 87 have recovered.
Chenango County Public Health announced that they are now up to 205 COVID 19 cases since March, with 7 deaths, 186 recoveries, there are 147 Active Quarantines, 1 Active Hospitalizations, and they have performed over 16,100 tests.

The State Health Department announced that there were 534 new positive coronavirus tests statewide on Monday, bringing the total number up to 412,878. The number of death was up to 25,126 with 8 more deaths reported Monday attributed to the virus.
Governor Cuomo announced today that New York has added 3 more states to the travel advisory; Illinois, Kentucky and Minnesota. Governor Cuomo also added Washington D.C. and Puerto Rico to the advisory, along with 34 states. Anyone traveling to New York from the location mentioned in the advisory must quarantine for 14 days to monitor for coronavirus symptoms.

Brandon Clark appeared in Oneida County Court today & asked the judge to withdraw his guilty plea for the murder of 17-year-old Bianca Devins. Clark will be assigned a new attorney, he had pleaded guilty to killing Devins in Utica during the weekend of the Boilermaker race in 2019 & positing pictures of the deceased teenager on social media, which led to his arrest. Clark claimed in court that his previous attorney coerced him into pleading guilty earlier this year.
Johnson City Police have identified that person found dead in a pickup truck Friday as 27 year old Omar Terry of Johnson City. Terry was found in a wrecked vehicle near Exit 70 of State Route 17, he had both gunshot & stab wounds, 25 year old Brandon Rose of Endicott has been charged with the murder.

year old Troy Anderson of Oneonta was assisting the home owner with outside
repairs when he fell off the ladder. The
homeowner called 911, Anderson was transported to A.O Fox Hospital where he was
pronounced deceased. The investigation
is on-going, but at this time no foul play was observed and it appears to be an
accident.

Friday, Unadilla had 170 cars dropping off hazardous materials, on Saturday at

were collected for incineration, over 20,000 pounds of electronics, 240 car
batteries & 2500 household batteries were collected, & 650 gallons of
paint was collected which will be re-mixed by Golden Artist Colors for eventual
re-distribution to local not-for-profit agencies.

State Police at Deposit are investigating a fatal industrial accident at the loading dock at the Courier Printing Corporation in Deposit. The deceased has been identified as 66 year old William Sethmann of Deposit, who was working as an independent contractor and handyman at Courier; he was located crushed underneath a hydraulic loading dock. The investigation revealed that Sethmann was working on the lift when it failed sometime between Monday afternoon and Wednesday morning. There are no signs of foul play.
19-year-old Alexander Wetzel was reported missing Tuesday, the SUNY Broome student was found by Binghamton Police Wednesday, SUNY Broome officials announced their condolences to Wetzel's family on their website today. Grief Counselors are available for students & staff following the announcement of Wetzel's death. Funeral arrangements have not yet been announced.

Chenango County Sheriff's Department investigated a robbery Tuesday Night on Royal Avenue in the Town of Norwich, after a male victim went to Chenango Memorial Hospital with missing teeth, head lacerations and additional trauma. The investigation revealed that the victim was lured to the Royal Avenue address by 19 year old Jade Orlando, who requested marihuana to be delivered to her, Brenden Gager, Hunter Speenburgh and Landon Cummings were hiding nearby, they allegedly assaulted and robbed the victim. All 4 were arrested & were charged with Robbery & Assault; they were arraigned and remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility. The City of Norwich Police Department assisted with the investigation. The investigation is ongoing and additional charges are expected.
Two men were arrested and 100 pounds of marijuana were seized after the Otsego County Sheriff’s Department raided elaborate growing operations in Morris and New Lisbon. 47 year old Christian Balmaceda of Morris and 49 year old Joseph Ali of New Lisbon were arrested, Balmaceda was charged with Criminal Possession of Marijuana, Unlawful Growing of Cannabis, and 3 counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child, Ali was charged with Criminal Possession of Marijuana, Criminal Possession of a Weapon, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance & Unlawfully Growing of Cannabis, they were remanded to the Otsego County Jail pending future court action.

A judge has denied a motion by ex-Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver regarding his bail request, pending the appeal of his corruption conviction and seven-year prison term. U.S. District Judge Valerie Caproni has denied Silver's request Monday, she stated that the substance of Silver's appeal lacks merit, and the sole purpose of the request was to stall Silver starting his prison term on October 5th. Silver was sentenced to 12 years in prison after his first conviction in 2015, that conviction was overturned after the U.S. Supreme Court redefined the boundaries of public corruption, then a 2nd jury convicted him

State Police at Sidney arrested 56 year old James Watson of Guilford for Criminal Mischief, after Troopers were dispatched to a domestic dispute on State Route 8 in Guilford. Watson is accused of breaking the victim’s car window during the dispute, he was arraigned in the town of Guilford Court where he was remanded to the Chenango County Jail with no bail pending court action on September 11th, and an order of protection was also issued to the victim.

3 people were arrested in connection with a series of area burglaries. State Police arrested 27 year old Steven Barrows of Sidney and 27 year old Zackery England of Sidney for Burglary and Conspiracy and 30 year old Nicole Bell of Oneonta for False Personation, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Criminal Possession of a Weapon and Unlawfully Possessing a Noxious Material & as a fugitive from justice from the state of Georgia. An investigation revealed that Barrows and England allegedly attempted to break into the property in Guilford, burglarized a seasonal home in Oxford and a seasonal garage in Guilford. Bell originally provided a false name during the arrest of all 3, she was found to be in possession of 2 bb guns, methamphetamine, heroin and brass knuckles. Barrows and England were arraigned in the town of Oxford Court where Barrows was remanded with no bail to the Chenango County Jail and England was remanded on $15,000 cash bail or $30,000 property bond. Bell was arraigned in the town of Unadilla Court and was remanded to the Otsego County Jail on no bail. Additional charges are also expected.

Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies, Walton Village Police, New York State Police, & several local Emergency Squads responded Thursday to a head-on collision, with 5 victims and 1 entrapment, on County Highway 21 near the intersection of Russell Road in the Town of Walton. The Investigation by Sheriff's Deputies determined that 42 year old Jeremy Shaw of Walton was driving a pickup truck when he crossed over the center line and struck a SUV head on driven by 43 year old Michael Franzese of Pearl River. Franzese was transported to Delaware Valley Hospital in Walton with head and facial injuries and was later transferred to UHS Wilson Hospital in Johnson City, 41 year old Diane Franzese, 12 year old Anthony Franzese and 10 year old Angelina Franzese were also transported to Delaware Valley Hospital in Walton, they suffered various injuries and were treated and released. Jeremy Shaw sustained injuries to his head and lower extremities, as well as possible internal injuries, and was airlifted to Albany Medical Center. The cause of this accident remains under investigation.

Governor Cuomo announced that teams from FEMA have begun Joint Public Assistance Preliminary Damage Assessments in 8 counties impacted by severe flooding in early August. The assessments will determine if the total amount of damage costs meets the $28.29 million requirement for federal aid, if so, a disaster declaration will be granted and FEMA funding would be available to support infrastructure repair. Broome, Chenango, & Delaware Counties are included locally. The heavy rain storms and resulting flooding caused significant damage to roads, bridges and other critical infrastructure. state & local officials believe that the total costs meet the federal threshold for a disaster declaration.
Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies & the State DOT Safety Unit conducted a commercial vehicle safety check point at the intersection of State Highway 357 and County Highway 14 in the Town of Franklin. 6 commercial vehicles were stopped and examined, 4 were found to have violations significant enough to necessitate that they be taken out of service until their mechanical issues were fixed or negligence corrected, 5 traffic tickets were issued.

Chenango County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 29 year old Coy Biviano for Criminal Possession of Stolen Property, while he was incarcerated at the Chenango County Correctional Facility following an investigation in to stolen property. It is alleged that Biviano was in a residence in North Norwich where he unlawfully took property not belonging to him. The property was later located in the residence were Biviano was staying. Biviano is to appear in the Town of North Norwich Court at a later date.

The State Department of Labor released preliminary unemployment rates for August. The State’s unemployment rate rose 1/10 of 1% in August, Locally Chenango County's unemployment rate was at 4.7%, Delaware County was at 5.3% & Otsego County had 4.7% in August.
State Police arrested 21-year-old Joshua Bertram of Chenango Forks, for Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated with a B.A.C. result of .19% and other traffic violations. Troopers responded to a report of a 1 vehicle accident with no injuries on County Road 32 in the Town of Greene, troopers observed Bertram passed out in the driver seat while his vehicle was in a ditch, he was issued tickets returnable to the Town of Greene Court on September 21st.
State Police arrested 27-year-old Kenneth DeGroat Jr., of Windsor, for DWI, Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Resting Arrest, Obstructing Governmental Administration and other traffic violations. This arrest occurred after troopers responded to a motorcycle accident on Foley Road in Windsor, where the driver had been given a ride to a nearby gas station and left his motorcycle at the scene. DeGroat had been driving with a suspended license, and did not have a court ordered ignition interlock device, he also refused to submit to a breath test. DeGroat was arraigned in the Town of Windsor Court and was remanded to the Broome County Jail without bail set.
Governor Cuomo today announced that over $69 million in grants, interest-free, and low-cost loans has been approved by the State Environmental Facilities Corporation to support drinking and wastewater infrastructure projects. The Town of Colchester will receive $318,000 for the construction of a new water treatment building with a cartridge filtration system so that their source may be used as for drinking water. Other improvements include a new finished water tank level monitoring system, a back-up electrical generator, new chemical feed systems, and a new raw water tank.

Cal Harris has filed papers in federal court in Syracuse today, against Tioga County officials for malicious prosecution and civil rights violations. Harris was twice convicted for murdering his estranged wife Michelle in 2001 he won appeals each time, the 3rd murder trial was moved to Schoharie County, that jury was deadlocked, and in trial Number 4, Harris was freed from Jail. Harris' lawsuit targets former Tioga County District Attorney Gerald Keene, who prosecuting the murder case twice, and got convictions against Harris, plus Police detectives that worked the case, & people who testified against him, they are expected to respond to the suit in Federal court later this year.

Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies arrested 30-year-old Patrick Ford of Delancey, on a Bench Warrant issued by the Town of Delhi Court as a result of Ford’s failure to appear to answer charges of Grand Larceny in the Fourth Degree and Petit Larceny. Ford was arraigned in the Town of Delhi Court & was remanded to the Delaware County Correctional Facility on $250 cash bail.

Fire fighters from several area departments responded this morning to a structure fire on Main Street in Delhi. The fire began at about 6:30 this morning in the kitchen of Village Pizzeria at 106 Main Street, it eventually spread to an adjacent antiques store. Main Street has been closed off & the Delaware County Courthouse has cancelled all activity today due to a loss of electrical power. Delaware County Emergency Services department reported that fire fighters from Manpower and Apparatus from Delhi, Andes, Bloomville, Bovina, Franklin, Margaretville, Meridale, Oneonta, Pindars Corners, Sidney, Walton, & Wells Bridge responded, 1 firefighter fell on stairs & suffered minor injuries.
Governor Cuomo directed State Police to ramp up enforcement efforts as part of a national crackdown on impaired driving through Labor Day weekend, one of the deadliest times of year for drunk and drugged driving fatalities. The Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign began today and ends September 5, will be carried out with assistance from local law enforcement agencies and aims to reduce deaths and injuries caused by motorists driving drunk or impaired by drugs. 1/3rd of all traffic crash fatalities in the United States involve drunk drivers. In New York State, alcohol involvement was listed as a contributing factor in more than 7,000 police-reported crashes in 2015, while illegal drugs contributed to more than 800 crashes.

Governor Cuomo today announced the availability of $98.7 million in funding to support bicycle, pedestrian, multi-use path and transportation-related programs as well as projects that reduce congestion and help to meet the requirements of the Clean Air Act. These projects will be selected through a competitive solicitation process and rated based on established criteria that include public benefit, air quality improvement, and innovation. State Police responded to the report of a car & motorcycle accident in Apalachin Sunday at 1:40 PM at State Route 434 and Pennsylvania Avenue. State Police Investigators report that a Buick operated by 71 year old DONALD ULMER Sr. of Little Meadows, Pennsylvania turned left in front of an oncoming motorcycle operated by 43 year old AUBURN LYONS of South Gibson, Pennsylvania. Lyons was pronounced dead at the scene, an autopsy is scheduled to be performed at Lourdes Hospital in Binghamton today, the Investigation is continuing.
Delaware County Deputies arrested 20-year-old Casey McKlveen of Latrobe Pennsylvania Saturday for 2nd degree Rape & Endangering the Welfare of a Child. McKlveen is accused of engaging in sexual contact with a female less than 15 years of age. He was arraigned in the Town of Delhi court, and was remanded to the Delaware County Correctional Facility on $25,000 cash bail.

Delaware County Deputies conducted a traffic stop on Main Street in the Village of Franklin. 22-year-old Brooke Ketchum of Bainbridge was arrested for Driving while Intoxicated, unsafe start and aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle. Ketchum is scheduled to reappear in the Town of Franklin Court at a later date.
The Bainbridge Village Board will hold a work session this afternoon at 5:00 PM, to discuss the comprehensive plan. The board will hold their regular meeting on Tuesday, both meetings will be held at the village offices at 33 West Main Street, and both will be open to the public.

Free 5-gallon pails of remixed exterior latex paint are now available to non-profit agencies and Otsego County residents. The pain is available on a first come first serve basis, it was collected as part of the county’s annual Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day in September, it was re-mixed and packaged for distribution through the generosity of Golden Artist Colors of New Berlin. Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies investigated a 2-car property damage motor vehicle accident at the intersection of River Road and Interstate 88 access road in the Town of Sidney. A vehicle operated by 64 year old Michael Sisson of Oneonta, was making a left turn off River Road and pulled into the path of a vehicle operated by 59 year old Mark Hopper of Wells Bridge. Sisson was issued a traffic ticket for fail to yield right of way.

A month-long drug investigation in Oneonta ends with the arrest of two couples -- one of which was found with more than $20,000 worth of drugs in their home. 26 year old Roy Dejesus Young, and 23 year old Kristen Lynn Rudnitsky, were arrested early Saturday after a no-knock search warrant was executed at their Oneonta home. Inside, Otsego County investigators found more than eleven thousand dollars worth of heroin and more than ten thousand dollars worth of cocaine, in addition to nearly $450 worth of marijuana and more than $5,000 in cash. Young is a convicted felon from a previous drug arrest. Young and Rudnitsky were both sent to the Otsego County Jail on $35,000 and $15,000 cash bail. Deputies also arrested 43 year old Michel Steven Harabet, and 40 year old Melissa Rotolo, both of Oneonta, as part of the investigation. Investigators found the couple Saturday afternoon along Gardner Place with $2,000 worth of crack-cocaine. They were both taken to the Otsego County Jail on $25,000 cash bail. All four people return to Oneonta City Court this morning for further proceedings.
A worker for Canadian Pacific Railway came in contact with a power line and was electrocuted on Monday. 39 year old Thomas F. Tarchak of Simpson Pennsylvania was among a group of four workers inspecting a steel railroad bridge running over Route 235 in Harpursville when the inspection bucket he was in came into contact with the bridge and a NYSEG power line. The lift truck was still energized when emergency responders arrived at the scene. NYSEG had to cut power before the man's body could be recovered. Route 235 between Route 7 and Davey Road was shut down during the response to the accident.
A woman accused of threatening Walton schools through Facebook postings is working on a plea deal with prosecutors. 28-year-old Jennifer Morris of East Branch is facing four felony charges of falsely reporting an incident.The indictment said she circulated warnings in June that there would be an explosion at Walton schools. She also faces seven counts of aggravated harassment for communications sent to six adults. Morris was in Delaware County Court on Monday for a possible plea deal, but her defense attorney, Andrew Puritz, requested an adjournment. Her next appearance and possible plea has been rescheduled for Sept. 16, at 1 pm in Delaware County Court. Morris remains in the Delaware County Jail with bail set at $20,000.
On Friday, Dajhoun T. Perez, 17, of Brooklyn, pleaded guilty in Broome County Court to assault in the second degree. Perez admitted that on June 12 he shot Daquan Smith, 21, of Binghamton, with a semi-automatic handgun. Perez was taken to the Broome County Jail. His sentencing is scheduled for Oct. 23. The court will have to decide whether to sentence him as a youthful offender or as an adult.
The Chenango County Department of Public Works shall close a section of County Road 33 today, between County Road 36(Norwich-Guilford Road) and County Road 34 (Springvale Road), in the Town of Norwich. This closure will be in place until the required culvert replacement work is completed. Local traffic shall be allowed access to their homes; however they will be required to travel away from the project for the closure period. Meanwhile, route 12 between Brisben and Greene has reopened after bridge work was completed ahead of schedule.

State Police at Sidney arrested 36-year-old Brian Johns of Franklin, for Criminal Possession of a Control Substance, Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle and Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs. The arrest resulted from a traffic accident investigation on State Route 357 in Franklin where Johns was found possessing 11 packets of heroin in his vehicle. Johns was also accused of operating the vehicle while impaired by drugs and without the permission of the owner. Johns was arraigned in Town of Delhi Court and remanded to the Delaware County Jail in lieu of $50,000 cash bail.

The Chenango county sheriff’s department arrested 28 year old Kyle Braman of Binghamton for 1 count each of 2nd degree Rape, Criminal Sexual Act and Endangering the Welfare of a Child. The arrest followed an investigation into an incident in the Village of Sherburne in July where Braman allegedly performed sexual acts with a 14-year-old female. Braman was arraigned in the Town of North Norwich court and remanded to the Chenango County Correctional facility on $10,000 cash bail until his next court appearance of July 26th.
The State Police Special Investigations Unit arrested 49-year-old Anthony Vaccaro of Windsor, for Grand Larceny and Falsifying Business Records. Vaccaro is accused of stealing, transporting and re-selling stolen fuel to cash paying customers at a discounted rate; he is accused of stealing over $80,000 dollars worth of fuel. Vaccaro was indicted by a Grand Jury and he was arraigned and was remanded to the Tioga County Jail on $5,000 bail or $10,000 bond pending additional court action.
