An estimated 48,000 baseball fans attended the annual Hall Of Fame Induction Ceremonies in Cooperstown yesterday, to see 6 more legendary figures in the sport enter that Hall. 3 players were inducted into the hall this year; they were pitchers Tom Glavine & Greg Maddux and slugger Frank Thomas.

Greg Maddux pitched mostly for the Chicago Cubs & the Atlanta Braves, he was grateful to be inducted & join his boyhood heroes:

Tom Glavine spent most of his career with Atlanta as Maddux’s teammate, as well as 4 years with the New York Mets. Glavine reflected on what it took to get to the Hall & thanked those who helped him:

Frank Thomas played the bulk of his career with the Chicago White Sox & was known as the “Big Hurt” for hitting over 540 homer runs in his career. The imposing figure broke down early on when discussing his late father, but rebounded to thank 139 teammates, the 3 cities he played in and to deliver a message to kids:

3 legendary managers were inducted into Baseball’s Hall Of Fame Sunday in Cooperstown. Bobby Cox managed the Toronto Blue Jays and the Atlanta Braves, where he had amazing success, which he attributed to the pitching of fellow inductees Greg Maddux & Tom Glavine as well as John Smoltz:

Tony LaRussa achieved managerial success in Chicago, Oakland and St. Louis; he said that he was uncomfortable getting all the credit for the work of his coaches & players:

Joe Torre managed the Mets, Braves, Cards, Yankees & Dodger, he acknowledged that his League & World championships with the Yankees got him elected, and he sees a bright future continuing for the game of baseball:

State Police responded to a Tioga County 911 report of a hit and run motor vehicle accident involving two joggers in the Town of Tioga. 41-year-old Daniel Manwarring and 43-year-old Karen Manwarring, when they were struck by a Blue Nissan Xterra that then left the scene. Daniel Manwarring was declared deceased at the scene and Karen Manwarring was transported to Wilson Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.   33-year-old Jason Townsend of Nichols is in custody & faces court action shortly.


Chenango county sheriff’s department responded to a report of a hit and run motor vehicle accident on South Canal St in the Village of Oxford, where a 1999 Chevy Blazer, driven by 25 year old Donald Towndrow of Norwich, rear ended a 2009 Hyundai driven by a Village of Oxford woman as she was turning onto a side street,   Towndrow left the scene of the accident, but was located and was charged with unlicensed operation, leaving the scene of a personal injury motor vehicle accident, and following too close. He faces action in the Village of Oxford Court at a later date.

6 former players & managers will be inducted in the National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown this weekend. Former managers Bobby Cox, Tony LaRussa & Joe Torre will be inducted, along with former Pitchers Greg Maddux, Tom Glavine & slugger Frank Thomas, the ceremonies will be held at 1:30 Sunday afternoon at the Clark Gymnasium in Cooperstown.
About $80 million for 17 construction projects at some New York community colleges is hung up because the state budget approved in March inadvertently dropped the funding from the spending plan. A "clean-up" budget bill never materialized before the Legislature ended its session last month, so projects at about a dozen colleges, including Broome, will temporarily be without the funding. Broome Community College is without $5 million for the SUNY Broome Hospitality Center to be built at the Carnegie Library in downtown Binghamton. State lawmakers are not expected back before January.
The Chenango County Sheriff's Office Narcotics Division arrested an 18 year old Takell Henry of Utica for Criminal Sale of a Controlled Substance, following a traffic stop in the Town of North Norwich. During a narcotics investigation Henry allegedly sold crack cocaine to an undercover Police Officer, he was arraigned in the Town of North Norwich Court and remanded to the Chenango County Jail on $25,000 cash bail pending future court action.
Cornell University and Owego’s Lockheed Martin, are among seven research teams, awarded project grants to develop technologies that will improve New York State’s electric grid. Governor Cuomo announced a total of $3.3 million will go toward seven smart grids. The governor said the smart grid technologies will use innovative methods to reduce the risk of power outages, lessen environmental impacts and energy consumption, as well as lower the cost of power delivery
Assemblywoman Donna Lupardo announced her campaign for a sixth term in the State Assembly at a fundraising event last night at En-Joie Golf Club. Lupardo was first elected to the assembly in 2004. She has no primary opponent, and is unopposed in the November election. State Police are currently looking for 29 year old Christopher Gonzalez, for questioning in regards to the Burglaries earlier this week at Mayhood’s Sporting Goods in Norwich.  Police believe that the 2 incidents occurred between 9:50 pm on Monday night and 6:00 am on Tuesday morning,   22 hand guns, several long guns and numerous boxes of ammunition were taken.  Anyone with information is asked to contact state police at 334-3296 or 561-7400.
