Governor Cuomo held a COVID 19 briefing in Albany today, the state conducted over 82,000 tests on Sunday, with 1191 new positive cases statewide. The state remains at over 1000 hospitalized, with 1059, the highest numbers since May, there are 237 in ICU Beds, 118 are on ventilators, and there were 12 more deaths Sunday, bringing the state death toll to 25,742. The Governor talked about how they continue to attack the micro clusters when they pop up, keeping the cases in a much smaller area:

The Governor announced today that The RealReal is working with top fashion designers, who are going to design masks; the RealReal is going to make them available through their website, and the profits from the mask sales will go to charities. The campaign goes for five weeks at RealReal.com.


The Broome County Health Department announced that they have had 233 more positive COVID 19 cases since Friday, bringing them up to 3293. They are up 94 deaths, an increase of 11 since late last week, there are 2651 recoveries and over 4700 people are being monitored by the Health department.


Chenango County Public Health continues to track COVID 19 Cases. The County now has 48 Active Cases with 5 hospitalizations and 262 quarantines. There have been 7 deaths and over 35,000 tests have been performed.


With the Passing of Country Music Legend Jerry Jeff Walker, the idea has resurfaced to memorialize the Oneonta native in his hometown. Previous administrations have liked the idea, but could not appropriate the necessary $20,000 in funding, to put up a bandstand in Muller Plaza, but Long time area broadcaster & performer Doug Decker has started a GoFundMe page to get the necessary funds for the project:

Decker is hoping that some local business owners may come forward as well & help make the Jerry Jeff Walker Bandstand possible.


Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies responded Early Sunday morning, to a domestic dispute in the village of Downsville. Deputies arrested 33 year-old Amandamarie Herzog of Downsville for harassment, 2 counts of endangering welfare of child, 1 count of criminal obstruction of breathing or blood circulation and 2 felony counts of criminal mischief. Herzog was arraigned virtually & was released in her own recognizance & will appear in the Town of Colchester Court on a later date, an order of protection was issued for the victim.


Unadilla Village officials have decided on how they will celebrate Halloween this year safely, during the existing pandemic, Mayor Jack Insinga explains:

Mayor Insinga said that trick or treating will be allowed between 4:00 & 7:00 PM Saturday, and they are advised to keep the festivities as local as possible.


Delaware County Sheriff's deputies conducted a traffic-stop on State Route 8 in Masonville on last Monday, October 19th, that resulted in the arrest of 39 year-old Thomas Kamp, of Honesdale, Pennsylvania, for 1 count of aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle & speed exceeding 55 miles per hour. Kamp was directed to appear in the Town of Masonville Court on a later date to answer the charges.

State Police responded Friday Afternoon to a fatal crash on State Highway 206 in Triangle. 21 year old Kimberly Burdick of Whitney Point was passing 2 vehicles when she came upon 2 motorcycles traveling eastbound, the operator of 1 motorcycle was able to take evasive action, swerve and lay his bike down, he was transported to Wilson Hospital for non-life threatening injuries and has since been released. The operator of a 2nd motorcycle 49 year old Shane Poklemba of Endwell was struck by the Burdick vehicle & was pronounced dead on scene. Burdick and two children in her vehicle were not injured. The investigation is on-going, Alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the crash.


The Norwich Middle School and District Offices will be closed Today after a positive COVID-19 case was reported. The district's website reported that they are closing the school to allow for contract tracing and deep cleaning.


The Broome County Health Department continues to have its COVID 19 numbers increase, highlighted by an over 5% positivity rate in their Yellow Zone Micro-Cluster. They report 3216 cases, they are up to 93 deaths, 2561 recoveries & over 4600 are being monitored.


Otsego County Department of Health announed that they had 19 cases of COVID 19 reported over the weekend, 9 of the cases are college students. The County now has 975 total confirmed cases, with 36 active cases, 1 hospitalization, 7 deaths, 751 cases linked to SUNY Oneonta & 30 confirmed cases in Hartwick College students


Delaware County reported 4 new cases of COVID-19 Friday & 2 more on Sunday, the known active cases is now 16. To date there have been 155 confirmed positive cases, with 118 people under mandatory quarantine, 12 people are isolated and receiving care at home and 4 people are in the hospital, 8 people have died and 131 have fully recovered.


New York State conducted 120,000 COVID 19 tests Saturday, there were 1632 positive tests, the state is now over 495,000 positives since March. Hospitalization went down by 30 to 1,015; there are 227 in ICU beds & 118 were intubated on Ventilators, 12 died, the state death toll is 25,730.


Country Music singer songwriter Jerry Jeff Walker, born Ronald Crosby on March 16, 1942 in Oneonta, died on Friday in Austin, Texas, from throat cancer-related complications. Walker is best known for writing the 1968 song "Mr. Bojangles", which was a big hit for the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band .

The state Parole Board has denied David Dart's application to be released from prison, he has served over 24 years in jail for the 1989 stabbing death of Gillian Gibbons in her car in the Oneonta municipal garage.  Dart was convicted in Otsego county court and has been serving out that sentence in a downstate prison.  This was Dart’s first attempt at parole.


Sidney village police arrested 19-year-old Austin Demuth of Afton on 3 counts of grand larceny, 17 counts of petty larceny and 5 counts attempted petty larceny.  The arrests followed an investigation of larcenies from unlocked vehicles in the Bird Avenue and Circle Drive area on December 4th.  More arrests are expected, as similar crimes have been committed in Sidney center, Bainbridge, Greene & Cooperstown.  Demuth was arraigned & was remanded to the Delaware County Jail on $5,000 bail pending court action on February 13th.  Police urge residents to lock up their homes & vehicles to prevent such crimes.


The Bainbridge Chamber of Commerce will host a meeting tonight at the Highway 7 Bar & Grill at 7:00 pm, to discuss the future of the Canoe Regatta. Bainbridge Chamber President John Payne told WCDO News that they will need a new chairman after this year’s regatta, and they are battling the misconception in the region that this is a Bainbridge only event:

Payne said that they need a lot of volunteers for this year’s regatta and & a new chairperson to take over for John Harmon, who will not continue in that capacity beyond this May.  More information will be available at tonight’s meeting, which is open to the public; information is also available at the chamber office at 967-8700.


State Budget hearings are being conducted in Albany currently, this week; area Assemblyman Cliff Crouch questioned Department of Health Commissioner Nirav Shah on the staffing shortage at the Oxford Veterans home:

Dr. Shah also stated that there is no timetable for his department to finish up their study of possible health effects from Hydraulic Fracturing for Natural Gas, the state has had a moratorium in place since 2008 on gas drilling.


The state’s new I-STOP program has cut “doctor shopping” by 75% according to state health department officials.  The I-STOP program started in August, where Doctors, physician assistants and nurse practitioners are now required file prescriptions to pharmacies by the Internet, and to check the database before prescribing painkillers.  Pharmacists are responsible for recording related prescriptions; the law is designed to help practitioners review patient drug histories through the health department’s online registry.


Republicans in the state senate filed a bill to move New York's primary day to late August, arguing the current September date for state offices is too late, to comply with a federal law, that requires ballots for military and overseas voters to be sent out at least 45 days before the general election.  Assembly Democrats passed a bill last month to move state primaries to the 4th Tuesday in June, coinciding with New York's federal primary date.  If lawmakers fail to agree on a primary date, municipalities will hold a primary for federal offices in June and a separate primary for state offices in September


Membership in the National Rifle Association has increased in New York since the state's New York SAFE Act went into effect 1 year ago.  . The number of people who enrolled nearly doubled last year, New York previously ranked 3rd in NRA membership behind Texas and California, New York now has the most NRA members.


NYSEG officials announced today that they are aware of fraudulent activities where customers are contacted by email, phone or in person and asked to pay current or past due charges, the payment ends up with scammers, and not NYSEG.  Officials said that NYSEG will not call customers for payment if an account is in good standing; customers are urged to contact the company and sign up for their “AutoPay” service. At NYSEG.com.  Customers, who believe they have been scammed, should immediately contact the Federal Trade Commission at ftc.gov and their local police.
