Governor Cuomo announced this week that the first major sporting event has committed to return in August.  The U.S. Tennis Association announced that the U.S. Open will be held in Flushing Queens this August, No fans will attend and the U.S. Tennis Association will take extra precautions to protect players and staff.

State Attorney General Letitia James will hold a virtual public hearing to examine the nature and details of interactions between police and the public during recent protests throughout New York. The hearing will begin at 11:00 AM at ag.ny.gov/livestream

State Attorney General Letitia James and a coalition of 23 additional attorneys general urged the U.S. Senate to take action to protect women nationwide by reauthorizing the Violence Against Women Act.  The Violence Against Women Act was originally signed into law in 1994, it has been reauthorized several times, but when the most recent reauthorization expired in September 2018, the U.S. House of Representatives voted to approve in April of 2019, the US Senate has not acted on the bill. During the Coronavirus Pandemic & subsequent quarantines, violence against women has increased.

State Attorney General Letitia James and Governor Cuomo announced that the state has renewed a previous order from March 17th that halted the collection for another 30 days, of medical and student debt owed to the State and that was specifically referred to the Office of the Attorney General for collection, in response to growing financial impairments resulting from the spread of coronavirus.  The new order took effect this morning and will run for an additional 30-day period, at that time, the Office of the Attorney General will reassess the needs of state residents for another possible extension.
