Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 48 year old Aaron Vandusen of Unadilla for Criminal Use of a Firearm, Criminal Possession of a Weapon, & Criminal Contempt. On November 29th, Otsego County 911 received a call regarding a male subject who had suffered a gunshot wound in a vehicle, it was determined that Vandusen had fashioned a homemade pistol even though he was prohibited from possessing firearms due to a previous felony conviction, he was attempting to enter a vehicle and dropped the homemade firearm which discharged in to his abdomen & groin area. He was taken to Wilson Hospital in Johnson City. State Police and Otsego County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched Vandusen's residence Thursday for an unrelated complaint, he was arraigned in Otsego County Centralized Arraignment and released on his own recognizance pending future court action.

Acting State Police Superintendent Dominick Chiumento today honored 232 new State Troopers as they graduated from the 213th session of the Basic School of the New York State Police Academy. The ceremony was held at the Empire State Plaza Convention Center in Albany. Today’s graduation increases the State Police ranks to 4,781 sworn members. 26 of the new Troopers will be assigned to Troop C in Sidney.
Delaware County Sheriff's office arrested 60 year-old John Necci of Portlandville after deputies conducted a traffic-stop for Speeding Sunday on State Highway 23 in the Town of Davenport. Necci was traveling at about 80 miles per hour in a posted 55 mile per hour zone, Deputies stopped Necci, he was charged with aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and Speeding, he was released and directed to appear in the Davenport Town Court on a later date to answer those charges.

32 year old Kyle Oakley of South Kortright pleaded guilty to 3rd degree Burglary in Delaware County Court. Oakley was charged following an investigation of forced entry into a seasonal residence during March of 2022. A Deputy responded to the crime scene on March 8, 2022, after the homeowner reported damage to his front door, the Deputy recovered a sweatshirt which was sent to the State Police Crime Lab for DNA extraction, Oakley was subsequently arrested by the Sheriff’s Department. Oakley was sentenced to a 5-year term of felony probation supervision, he was ordered to pay $1,000 in restitution to the homeowner, if he violates probation supervision, he faces a possible resentencing of up to 2 and 1/3 to 7 years in state prison.
Broome County Sheriff Fred Akshar & Broome County Executive Jason Garnar announced that after a comprehensive review of the medical provider at the Broome County Correctional Facility, they have rectified over $250,000 in Broome County taxpayer-funded overpayments. The investigation revealed that PrimeCare did not routinely provide the Broome County Sheriff’s Office with the costs incurred for services rendered as part of their monthly invoices as required, The net value of services not rendered by PrimeCare totaled $257,874; and The staffing matrix did not reasonably reflect the mix of nursing hours actually being provided. Sheriff Akshar & Executive Garnar said that Prime Care agreed to make all the corrections, they would meet the staffing requirements listed in the contract; provide monthly itemized invoices & would repay the outstanding $257,874 by crediting deductions in its monthly invoices over a 12-month period.

Otsego County Officials announced that several roads are closed due to flooding conditions, including County Highway 48 between Chamberlain Hill and Downey Road Spur in Otego, County Highway 4 between Mill Street and Hilton Street in the Town of Butternuts, Miller Road in Pittsfield, Bemis Road from State Highway 51 to Pegg Road in Morris. In Delaware County, State Route 30 in Roxbury has flooding issues, officals in all around counties advise motorists to turn around if they find flooded roads & report them to authorites as soon as possible. The Otsego County Sheriff's Office held a public meeting Monday afternoon, Investigators announced that the occupant of 18 Richards Avenue, 60-year-old Desmond Moan, allegedly fired a gun inside his home severing a gas line. NYSEG was called to 24 Richards Avenue around 8 am Saturday after a report of the smell of gas, that was followed by another report at 14 Richards Ave for a similar issue, then 18 Richards Avenue exploded, the technician was uninjured. The Town of Oneonta code enforcement office has waived fees for building permits for those whose homes were damaged in the blast.
Delaware County Sheriff's Office arrested 31 year old Cachet Fernandez of Sidney on a sealed indictment arrest warrant issued out of the Delaware County Court. On Friday Morning, Broome County Sheriff’s Deputies, located and identified Fernandez, he was turned over to the custody of Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies. The Delaware County Court issued a sealed indictment arrest warrant, stemming from Fernandez allegedly not reporting his new residence as a registered Sex Offender to the proper authorities upon moving. Fernandez was remanded to the Delaware County Jail to await arraignment in Delaware County Court at a later date.
The Delaware County Sheriff's Office arrested 38 year old Richard Santiago of Masonville on a bench warrant, issued by the Village of Sidney. Deputies responded to Delaware County Correctional Facility where Richard Santiago was being arraigned on a separate charge. Deputies subsequently arrested 38-year-old Santiago on two active bench warrants issued by the Village of Sidney Court. Santiago was arraigned at Delaware County Central Arraignment Court, released on his own recognizance, and directed to appear in the Village of Sidney Court at a later date to answer for the charges.

Chenango County Sheriff’s Office executed a search warrant in the Town of Smithville on December 8, that resulted in the arrest of 37 year old Troy Dibble of Smithville. Dibble was taken in custody, he was wanted on a felony arrest warrant for Reckless Endangerment, for allegedly firing numerous rounds from a handgun into a vehicle that was occupied. The investigation also uncovered Dibble's drug sales from within the residence, Office members recovered Heroin, Fentanyl, Methamphetamine, and numerous handguns. Dibble was charged with Criminal possession of a controlled substance, criminal possession of stolen property, criminal possession of a weapon, Criminally using drug paraphernalia, resisting arrest & several other charges, he was arraigned & was remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility on cash bail pending future court action.
A new federal charge was filed Monday against 28 year old Mufid Alkhader, who is accused of firing a shotgun outside a synagogue in Albany. Alkhader was arrested Thursday for possession of a firearm by a prohibited person, he was additionally charged Monday with conspiracy to make a false statement during the purchase of a firearm, he was not eligible to buy a firearm because of a previous protective order, so he had a friend buy the shotgun on his behalf. Alkhader is being held without bail.

Angelino said that he felt that the new Clean Slate bill was unnecessary as there was already a mechanism to have criminal records expunged through the courts for those who have stayed out of trouble after jail, and he felt that the adjustments to the Bail Reform Laws have had little consequence.
The State Office of Cannabis Management has issued a recall on “Jenny’s Zee Zee Gummies" adult-use cannabis product.” The recall states that the products did not undergo the required testing for consumer safety and product quality. the product in question was sold between September 4th and November 1st, consumers should contact the dispensary where it was purchased for more information.

Otsego County Sheriff's Office announced that the investigation into Saturday’s gas explosion on Richards Avenue in Oneonta is still ongoing, and following acquiring information from examination of the scene, interviews, and forensic examinations, they concluded that an action by the resident, 60 year old Desmond Moan resulted in a non-intended natural gas leak, The escaping gases made contact with an ignition source which resulted in the explosion. Inspections and damage assessment is still ongoing, but currently there has been over 50 property parcels, and over 60 residents and their families affected. Initially 43 residents were displaced. The American Red Cross is working with the families providing community resources and services, The State of Emergency remains in effect.
The State Police announced it had the highest Trooper candidate processing turnout in over a decade. Over 1,100 candidates attended processing weekend. Trooper candidate processing took place at the New York State Police Academy in Albany, on the weekend of December 2. Candidates can learn about becoming a New York State Trooper and sign up to take the exam today at joinstatepolice.ny.gov. Applications are being accepted until March 4, 2024.
On December 3, 2023, Delaware County Sheriffs Deputies observed a vehicle in a field and observed a person running with a flashlight toward the vehicle. Deputies identified the person with the flashlight as the operator of the motor vehicle as 34 year old Michael Hunter of Walton, who is accused of driving while under the influence of alcohol, he was charged with DWI and moving from lane unsafely. The property that Hunter was on was owned by New York City Department of Environmental Protection, DEP Police charged Hunter with Trespass & Criminal Mischief, Hunter will appear in Andes Town Court at a later date.

CHENANGO COUNTY Health Department will hold a free rabies vaccine clinic for dogs, cats & ferrets Saturday, from 9:00 to 10:30 AM at the South New Berlin Fire Station, registration is required at 337-1673.
A man was arrested Thursday afternoon after he fired a shotgun in the parking area of an Albany synagogue. No one was injured during the incident at the Temple Israel and the suspect was an unidentified 28-year-old man, who was quickly arrested, he made "threatening statements," during the incident. Police said that an early childhood center with at least two dozen preschoolers were on the premises. The parents were contacted, the facility went immediately into lockdown, Federal law enforcement is currently leading the investigation.

State Comptroller's office has completed audits of municipalities around the state, an audit of the Town of Colesville found that Officials did not always use a competitive process when purchasing goods or services and some officials were unfamiliar with the town's procurement policy requirements. In the village of Greene, officials developed a comprehensive investment program but did not effectively manage the program, they did not prepare monthly cash flow forecasts to estimate funds available for investment or monitor investments and did not formally solicit interest rate quotes or consider other legally permissible investment options.

Pucci said that about 3000 were distributed to Delaware County Families in need last year.
The State Health Department reported that flu cases rose by over 25% in the last week and hospitalizations have surged by 30%. Most of the cases have been reported in Western New York, especially in Erie, Niagara, and Chautauqua Counties. In the last recorded week, there were more than 4,000 cases reported in New York State, there has also been a surge in the respiratory virus known as RSV.

The West Kortright Center announced today a grant award totaling $30,000 from the New York State Council on the Arts to support the nonprofit arts and culture sector. In addition they received a $10,000 Artist Support Grant for Adrianna Newell. The State Council has awarded over $80 million since Spring 2023 to over 1,500 artists and organizations across the state.

35 year-old Bradley Law of Harpursville was sentenced in Broome County Court to 2 concurrent sentences of 1 1/3rd to 4 years in prison Tuesday. Law hit 13 year old Brennan Loveless with a pickup truck on January 1st 2023 while the boy was riding his bike on the shoulder of Route 7 near his home in Sanitaria Springs. Law fled the scene while Loveless, who was thrown 180 feet down the shoulder, suffering serious injuries. Law then told police he hit a deer with his truck instead. Law pleaded guilty to criminal possession of a firearm and attempted leaving the scene of a fatal motor vehicle accident.
State Police & other state agencies responded to a commercial vehicle crash at I-88 in Duanesburg, Tuesday morning. The investigation has determined a tractor-trailer traveling exited the road and traveled down a steep ravine, carrying multiple large cylinders containing compressed natural gas. The driver was removed and transported to Albany Medical Center with serious injuries and is currently listed in critical condition. I-88 was closed between exit 24 and exit 25 for the investigation & clean up, there were no home or business evacuations & there was no fire or explosion as a result of this crash. The name of the driver will not be released at this time. The investigation into the cause of this crash is ongoing.

Attorney General Letitia James today announced the takedown of a major drug trafficking ring that was distributing heroin and fentanyl, as well as powder and crack cocaine in Rensselaer, Albany, Saratoga, Schenectady, and Dutchess counties. The takedown resulted in the indictment of 25 individuals charged with 164 crimes and recovered cocaine, heroin laced with fentanyl, which have a street value of approximately $350,000 plus 4 handguns, 2 large capacity ammunition feeding devices, and the seizure of over $50,000 in cash.
A Lawsuit was filed in Broome County Supreme Court against the Vestal School District where a former Vestal High School student alleges that economics teacher Robert Carr asked her to meet him, he allegedly kissed the victim numerous times, groped her inappropriately and continued to force sexual activity upon her until she moved to the state of Texas and changed her phone number. The lawsuit claims that School Officials did not take any action against Carr after learning of the accusations.

On Tuesday, Broome County Sheriff’s Deputies assigned to the US Marshal’s Regional Fugitive Task Force arrested 22 year old Nathan Williams Jr. of Endicott, at 68 Thorp Street in the City of Binghamton. Williams was wanted by the Endicott Police Department for Murder in connection with the shooting death of 25-year-old Molique Dawson in Endicott in July. The Metro SWAT Team of the Binghamton Police Department executed the search warrant and Williams was successfully taken into custody after a 5 hour standoff, Williams was transported to the Broome County Sheriff’s Correctional Facility, arraigned at Central Arraignment and is currently being held without bail.

Former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo is being sued by former aide Brittany Commisso, who claims that Cuomo sexually harassed her while he was still in office. Commisso filed the case against the ex-governor in state Supreme Court in Albany on Wednesday, she was 1 of 11 women who accused Cuomo of sexual misconduct, leading to his resignation in 2021, he has denied the allegations.

The Otsego County Sheriff’s Office arrested 32 year old Allen Bachorik of Hartwick, following an investigation into a physical domestic dispute in the Town of Hartwick. Bachorik was charged with 2nd & 3rd degree Assault, Menacing, 8 counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child plus Criminal Mischief, he was placed in pre-arraignment hold for arraignment in Otsego County Central Arraignment.
Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 32 year old Katherine Naber of Richfield Springs, following a Domestic Dispute in the Town of Otsego. Naber was charged with 1st & 2nd Degree Criminal Contempt & Resisting Arrest, after Deputies were dispatched to a residence in the Town of Otsego and determined that Naber had violated a valid order of protection, she resisted arrest by attempting to fight and flee from Deputies on scene, she was taken into custody and later held at the Otsego County Jail pending arraignment.

Members of the U.S. Marshal’s Fugitive Task Force arrested Jade Pittsley Tuesday, she was wanted by the U.S. Marshals in Albany on an arrest warrant for escaping from federal custody. Pittsley was under the supervision of the Federal Bureau of Prisons and was afforded an opportunity to complete the final portion of her sentence at a halfway house in Albany to assist in her reentry to the community, she failed to show up & a warrant was issued for her arrest. Pittsley was located in Johnson City where she was observed leaving a retail store and, as she attempted to get into a nearby vehicle, task force members took her into custody. Officers found more than 40 grams of methamphetamines in her possession, she was transported to the Broome County Sheriff’s Office and charged with felony narcotics possession.

The State Department of Labor released preliminary local unemployment rates for October. The State's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate increased from 4.0% in September to 4.2% in October , locally, Chenango County had 3.2%, Delaware County 3.7% and Otsego County 3.4% in October.
State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli and State Police announced the arrest of Utica City School District Superintendent Bruce Karam and the former Utica Mayor and School Board President Louis LaPolla. Karam was using school money and resources to send election mailers in support of school board candidates that he favored and who determined his contract, salary and authority. He also is accused of using school resources to send invitations for a non-school related fundraiser for a purported charity run by LaPolla. LaPolla was allegedly aware that school resources were being used on his behalf. Karam also allegedly tried to cover up his actions by attempting to persuade school district employees to lie that the resources being used for a valid purpose.

State Police Major Crimes Unit members were in southern Vermont searching an area of forest for the remains of Sara Anne Wood, about 30 miles east of Albany. Wood was abducted while riding her bicycle 30 years ago in a remote area of the Town of Frankfort, & was killed by Lewis Lent of Massachusetts, Over 80 officers from the State Police assisted in the search, which concluded on Thursday, No remains were found in the search.
Delaware County District Attorney's Office announced that 34 year old Donald Kern of Sidney, was indicted for a Hate Crime by the Delaware County Grand Jury last week. The Indictment accuses Kern of Aggravated Harassment as a Hate Crime, he is accused pf threatening and spitting on an African American female from Sidney, threatened her with violence, & used racial slurs.
The Broome County Corrections Academy will hold its graduation ceremony for the Class of 2023 at the Holiday Inn in Downtown Binghamton, starting at 11:30 this morning. 25 graduates will officially earn the rank of Officer, after 3 months of training, learning defense tactics, studying law, Several recruits will also be recognized with individual awards.
The Saratoga County Sheriff's Office arrested 50-year-old Joellyn Bedford, of Norwich, for using a forged bank cashier's check to buy a 2021 Ford Bronco worth $58,500. The Sheriff's Office accuses Bedford of using a check with a false name to purchase the car, she then sold the vehicle to a dealership in Otsego County.

Chenango County Sheriff's Deputies arrested 24 year old Nathaniel Rowe of Coventry for 4 counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon, 3rd degree Burglary, Grand Larceny & Petty Larceny. Rowe is accused of illegally entering a garage & stealing a vehicle & Several Firearms. Deputies located the stolen vehicle at a residence, just a few miles away from crime scene, Rowe was inside the residence with the stolen firearms. Rowe was on parole at the time of his arrest, he was processed and was held at the Chenango County Correctional Facility on his Warrant, he was ordered to appear in Town of Smithville court at a later date.

Acting New York State Police Superintendent Steven Nigrelli has announced he's stepping down from office. Nigrelli was no longer under consideration for the permanent role, he plans to retire effective October 6th. 71 year old Michael Murray of Sidney, pleaded guilty to multiple counts of possession of child pornography in U.S. District Court last week. Murray admitted that in October 2021, he possessed images and videos of child pornography on two cell phones and possessed images and videos of child pornography in two email accounts he controlled. Murray had a previous conviction in New York related to the production, possession and distribution of child pornography at the time of these federal offenses. Sentencing is scheduled for January 12, 2024, in Federal Court in Albany, he could face a term of 144 months in prison, a fine of up to $250,000 and a term of supervised release of at least 5 years to life, he will have to register as a sex offender upon his release from prison.

The Otsego County Sheriff’s Office arrested 35 year old Aaron McIntyre of West Oneonta, following the investigation into a trespass complaint in Town of Milford. When the officer attempted to take the defendant into custody, he then resisted arrest, he was then found to be in possession of 2 different controlled substances. McIntyre was charged with Criminal Possession of a Control Substance, 2 Counts Resisting Arrest & Trespassing & was released on an appearance ticket and is scheduled to appear in the Town of Milford Court on a later date.
Delaware County Sheriff's Office announced that a juvenile is facing 3rd degree Assault and Criminal Obstruction of Breathing, following an incident which occurred at the DCMO BOCES in the Town of Masonville. On September 7th, Deputies responded to the BOCES campus, a physical altercation had occurred where the victim was physically injured, and pressure had been applied to the victim’s throat. Deputies arrested and charged the Unadilla juvenile, The juvenile and the parents were issued juvenile appearance tickets and were directed to report to the Delaware County Probation Department at a later date to answer the charges.

The Broome County Sheriff's office arrested 29 year old Dustin Smith of Endicott, after methamphetamine and fentanyl were found during the intake process at the Broome County Correctional Facility. Smith was brought to Central Arraignment at the Broome County Correctional Facility on Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance charges, a routine search uncovered 3 bags containing Methamphetamine & fentanyl. Smith was charged with 2 Counts of Possession of a Controlled Substance, & 3 Counts of Promoting Prison Contraband, he was arraigned in the Town of Dickinson Court & he remains at the Broome County Correctional Facility.
70 year old Rudolph Pacheco of Staten Island was arraigned on a sealed indictment in Delaware County Court on September 15. The Delaware County Grand Jury handed up a 9 Count Indictment accusing him of Vehicular Manslaughter, Aggravated Vehicular Homicide, Assault, Aggravated DWI, Reckless Driving, and Leaving the Scene of a Personal Injury Crash that resulted in death. Pacheco is accused of operating a motor vehicle on August 2, in the Town of Middletown, with a BAC greater than .18, he struck 2 elderly pedestrians, Pacheco fled the scene until he was stopped 12 miles away. One of the pedestrians was pronounced dead at the scene, and the second one was transported to the Emergency Room to receive treatment for non-life threatening injuries. Pacheco was ordered held on $50,000 cash bail, $250,000.00 secured bond, and $500,000.00 partially secured bond, a conference is scheduled for October 10, at 1:00 P.M.

The Broome County District Attorney's Office announced that Noe Casas-Aguilar of Binghamton & Johnathon Aldrich of Binghamton were sentenced to 14 years in State prison, with 5 years of post release supervision. Casas-Aguilar pleaded guilty to 1st Degree Burglary & 1st Degree Robbery, for the July 31st, 2022 burglary where he & Aldrich invaded a home on Bevier Street, threatened the occupants and stole money and handguns.
Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies arrested 24 year old Jamie Sophie of Unadilla after an investigation of a motor vehicle accident on June 25th on State Highway 28 in the Town of Meredith. Deputies found a vehicle left the roadway and collided with a front porch of a residence, Sophie had been operating a motor vehicle in an intoxicated state, he was charged with operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated, aggravated DWI, moving from lane unsafely, and inadequate brakes, Sophie was ordered to appear in the Town of Meredith Court at a later date.
Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies arrested 20 year old Kody Olsen of Bainbridge following a traffic stop in Sidney. Deputies found that the vehicle’s registration was suspended and Olsen had a suspended license, Olsen was charged with Operating a Motor Vehicle while the Registration was suspended, Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle, driving without headlights, among other charges, Olsen was released on appearance tickets for Village of Sidney Court at a later date.
State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli announced that the State Common Retirement Fund’s investment return was -4.14% for the state fiscal year that ended March 31, 2023. The Fund closed the year valued at $248.5 billion. The Fund had 44.14% of its assets invested in publicly traded equities, with the remaining assets invested in cash, bonds and mortgages, private equity & real estate.

Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies were dispatched to a one car motor vehicle accident located on East Brook Road, in the Town of Hamden on June 14th. 48-year-old William Track of Delhi swerved to avoid a deer and drove over an embankment and into the stream causing his vehicle to become disabled. Track was taken to the hospital for his injuries.   Deputies arrested Track and charged him with driving while intoxicated, Consumption of Alcohol in a Motor vehicle, no seat belt and moved from lane unsafely, Track was released on uniformed traffic tickets and is to appear in the Town of Hamden Court on a later date to answer the charges.
The Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 31 year old Brittany Mumbulo of Edmeston following an investigation of a personal injury motor vehicle accident in the Town of New Lisbon. Mumbulo was charged with DWI, Operating M/V with BAC 0.08% or more, Open Container, Uninspected Motor Vehicle & Speed Not Reasonable and Prudent, she was air lifted to Albany Medical Center, she will appear in the Town of New Lisbon court at a later date.

The Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 36 year old Tadd Sherwood of Oneonta following an investigation of a violation of a Court issued Protection order. Sherwood was charged with 2 counts of Criminal Contempt , for allegedly contacting the protected party of an order of protection, while incarcerated in the Otsego County Correctional Facility, Sherwood was arraigned at Otsego County Central Arraignment, he was remanded back to the Otsego County Correctional Facility & was scheduled to appear in the Town of Middlefield Court on a later date.

State Trooper Richard Albert has been released from Ellis Hospital after being shot last week after stopping a vehicle speeding on I-88 in the town of Duanesburg. Trooper Albert approached the vehicle, and a passenger reached out the driver-side window and opened fire on Trooper Albert, striking him in his left upper arm. Trooper Albert returned fire. The shooter and the driver exited the vehicle, and the shooter fled on foot. The driver was taken into custody uninjured at the scene. The shooter has been identified as 32 year old Nelson Troche of Schenectady and he was located approximately 90 minutes later in Duanesburg, suffering from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, he was taken to Albany Medical Center where was pronounced deceased.
Broome County Sheriff’s Office patrol responded to motor vehicle accident Thursday in the Town of Union. Responding officers found 37 year old Andrew Tredo of Endicott asleep in the driver’s seat of his car, witnesses told officers that Tredo rear-ended a vehicle stopped at the intersection, then drove his vehicle to a nearby parking lot and passed out. Tredo admitted to consuming alcohol before the accident and multiple open containers of alcohol were found in the vehicle. Tredo's BAC was .39, almost 5 times the legal limit, he was charged with Aggravated DWI, 3 counts of Drinking Alcohol in a Motor Vehicle, Failure to Obey a Traffic Device, along with several other charges, he was arraigned and released on an appearance ticket to answer for his charges at the Town of Union Court in July.
Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 26 year old Justin Charles of Bainbridge following an accident investigation in the Village of Unadilla on June 11. Charles was charged with DWI, Speed not reasonable and prudent among other charges, he is accused of operating a motorcycle on a public highway while in an intoxicated condition, he was released on uniform traffic tickets returnable to Town of Unadilla Court on June 26.

Nauman Hussain was sentenced to 5 to 15 years in prison following victim impact statements at the Schoharie County Court today, he was convicted on 20 counts of manslaughter and criminally negligent homicide, Hussain operated Prestige Limo, which owned the uninspected stretch limo that crashed in Schoharie where 20 people were killed in October 2018. Hussain's Attorney is expected to appeal.
The Broome County Sheriff’s Office was called to the scene of a pedestrian-train accident near the Crocker Hill Rd area in the Town of Fenton Tuesday. The Sheriff’s Office stated that 17-year-old Jakob McCloe of Port Crane was walking westbound on the Norfolk Southern Railroad Tracks near Crocker Hill Road, he was wearing noise-canceling headphones and was unable to hear the train approaching, the engineer attempted to signal multiple times to get McCloe’s attention, he was unable to stop the train, and at 8:53 am, McCloe was struck and killed and pronounced at the scene. McCloe was a student at the Chenango Valley School District.
The Chenango County Sheriff's Office reported that Shawn McMahon of Binghamton was the pilot & only occupant of a plane that crashed Sunday in Norwich. The National Transportation Safety Board said that the Cessna 182D plane crashed just before 3:00 PM Sunday about 1 mile west of the Eaton Airport, he had taken off from the airport and was attempting to return to the airport at the time of the crash. The investigation has been opened by the NTSB and the FAA.

Bradley Law of Harpursville was arraigned Tuesday in Broome County Court for Leaving the scene of a fatal motor vehicle accident and criminal possession of a firearm. Law is accused of running over 13 year old Brennan Loveless as he was riding a bicycle on January 1st on State Route 7 near his home on Belden Manor Road in Sanitaria Springs. Law allegedly fled the scene, Loveless was eventually taken to Syracuse Children’s Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Law was apprehended the following day after he reported that his pickup truck had driven into a ditch along Bevier Street in an attempt to avoid striking a deer, investigators determined that Law's truck was the one that had struck and killed Loveless.
Delaware County District Attorney's Office announced that 41 year old Jason Dufton of Hancock, was sentenced to 7 years in state prison, and 15 years of post-release supervision for his conviction of Course of Sexual Conduct Against a Child in Delaware County Court Tuesday. Dufton engaged in at least 2 sexual acts with a 10-year-old female child, in the Town of Hancock, he was also ordered to submit a DNA sample to the State DNA databank, he must register as a sex offender after he is released from prison.
33 year old Ammar Ali of Albany was sentenced to 2 to 4 years in State prison after pleading guilty to felony Criminal Mischief in Broome County Court. Ali admitted that on July 19, 2022, in the Town of Union, he cut off an electronic monitoring ankle bracelet while on probation, he was previously convicted for Bail Jumping in 2015,

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to a reported 2 car motor vehicle collision at the intersection of Thompson Hollow Road and Jensen Road in the Town of Middletown Monday. Initial reports stated that 1 vehicle was on fire and the 2nd vehicle contained an entrapped person within. 2 good Samaritans heard the collision and went to the scene, they were able to extinguish the fire and provide first aid to both drivers until the arrival of first responders. 41 year old John Todd of Roxbury, was pronounced deceased at the scene, 65 year old Daniel Plummer of East Branch was extricated, he was airlifted to Albany Medical Center by Life Net and is currently in critical condition. The Sheriff’s Accident Reconstruction Unit responded to the scene to investigate the cause of the accident,
The State Department of Labor released preliminary local area unemployment rates for April. The State's area unemployment decreased 1/10th to 4.0% in April, Chenango County had 2.5% unemployment in April, Delaware County had 2.9% & Otsego County had 2.8%.

The Delaware County District Attorney's Office announced that 50 year old Brett Conklin of Walton was convicted for DWI In Tompkins Town Court. Conklin was arrested last November after a 1 vehicle crash, where registered a BAC of .14. Conklin was ordered to pay $900 in fees and fines, he was sentenced to a 1 year conditional discharge, he must install an ignition interlock device on any vehicle he owns & he must attend a victims impact panel & an impaired Drivers program.

On Tuesday, Deputies responded to the reported theft of a truck & trailer containing a zero turn lawn mower on Mill Street in the Town of Binghamton, the truck’s owner had security cameras, & a tracking device, where the vehicle was located at Phillips Way in the Town of Binghamton, the 3 suspects, fled on foot into a creek. Deputies arrested 30 year old Heather Brewer of Endicott, 38 year old Joseph Schultz & 35 year old Ryan White of Endicott on a variety of charges including Grand Larceny, Criminal Possession of stolen Property, & Conspiracy, Schultze was found to have outstanding warrants for Grand Larceny, resisting arrest, identity theft and drug charges in the State of Pennsylvania and violating parole in Albany.

A Florida man has been sentenced to prison in a gas station skimming scheme in upstate locations. 34-year-old Yuny Hurtado Rodriguez is accused of working with others between April 2016 and July 2019, to build skimming devices inside gas pumps in Albany, Broome, and Montgomery counties, in order to use the stolen information to create fraudulent debit and credit cards that were used to obtain money orders, gift cards and cash. Hurtado-Rodriguez received 57 months in prison and will have to forfeit $606,000.

Governor Hochul & U.S. Senators Schumer & Gillibrand announced that New York State will receive $100 million in federal funding from the U.S. Department of Treasury through the American Rescue Plan to expand high-speed internet. The Broome County District Attorney's Office announced that Taykwann Browne of Brooklyn pleaded guilty to Criminal Possession of a Weapon, for illegally possessing a gun in Binghamton in January. The Broome County Special Investigations Unit Task Force assisting New York State parole, located Browne who had absconded from parole supervision and had an active homicide warrant in New York City, Browne drove off, leading police on a chase through the City of Binghamton, he crashed the car and fled on foot but was apprehended a short time later by police. Browne will be sentenced to 7 years in State prison followed by 5 years post release supervision on June 30th, he still faces action in New York City.

Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 46 year old Sallie Cherry of Texas following an investigation in the Town of Hartwick on February 19th. Cherry was charged with Criminal Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Certain Ammunition Feeding Devices, Cherry was released on an Appearance Ticket returnable to the Hartwick Town Court at a later date.
U.S. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand announced that the Greater Binghamton Airport will receive $7 million for renovations of the passenger terminal and the associated vehicle approach, with upgrades to the passenger hold room, & the replacement of the airport’s outdated Air Conditioning equipment, & for the installation of 2 passenger-boarding bridges. The funding comes from the bipartisan Infrastructure Investment & Jobs Law. The Albany, Buffalo and Syracuse airports also received funding.

Chenango County Sheriff's Office arrested 43 year old Hayes Cutting Jr of Bainbridge, for 2nd degree assault, Tampering with Physical Evidence, unlawfully fleeing a police officer and resisting arrest, following the investigation into the assault of Norwich Police Officer with a motor vehicle on Monday in Norwich, while attempting to take Cutting into custody on an active warrant. State Police responded to the Town of Oneonta after a tip that Cutting was there, Cutting was found hiding in the ceiling of a building, he was held at the Chenango County Correctional Facility on a State Parole Warrant and will appear in the Town of Norwich Court for the new charges. The passenger in Cutting's vehicle, Jesse Dann, had an unrelated warrant out for his arrest and was taken into custody.
The Broome County Special Investigations Unit Task Force, and local Police agencies, arrested 32 year old Cody Dickson of the Town of Maine man on 17 charges. The Task Force executed a search warrant at 383 Kolb Road, they seized over $10,000 in methamphetamine, plus weapons, high capacity magazines and ammunition. Dickson was charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance & Criminal Possession of a Weapon, plus Criminal Possession of Stolen Property & Criminally Using Drug Paraphernalia, Dickson faces court action shortly.
Broome County District Attorney Mike Korchack announced that 26-year-old Kout Akol of Binghamton was sentenced for Manslaughter, Criminal Possession of a weapon, tampering with physical evidence, and endangering the welfare of a child, in Broome County Court, for the fatal stabbing of 27-year-old Takecia Mitchell in Binghamton, Akol was sentenced to 25 years in state prison, followed by 5 years of post-release Supervision.

Several area Fire Departments responded to a structure fire at 440 St. John Road in Afton early this morning. The fire was mainly confined to the 1st floor, there was smoke & heat damage to parts of the 2nd floor, 1 unconscious occupant was removed & was taken to Wilson Hospital. Firefighters from Afton, Harpursville, Greene, Bainbridge & Coventry Responded, the cause of the fire is under investigation.

On Saturday night, Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies conducted a traffic stop in the Town of Colchester, Deputies identified the driver of the vehicle as 44-year-old Tyrece Williams of Syracuse, who's vehicle registration was suspended, due to an Insurance Lapse. Williams was charged with Operating a Motor Vehicle with a Suspended/Revoked Registration, Aggravated Unlicensed Operator, Failing to turn in license plates into DMV, among other charges, Williams was released and is scheduled to appear in the Town of Colchester Court at a later date.
About a dozen people were arrested at a protest at the Johnson City Wegman's Parking lot last night. People were protesting the police brutality cases of Tyre Nichols in Memphis & the Hamail Waddell keeling incident by Binghamton Police January 1st. 36 year old Jason Gerhard of Montrose Pennsylvania was found guilty in Broome County Court today for Criminal Possession of a Weapon. State Police responded to a home on Patch Road in the Town of Chenango last February, where Gerhard entered a residence without permission, he was in possession of an illegal handgun & was arrested, at that time, Gerhard was on probation for illegal possession of a .38 caliber revolver. Gerhard could spend 3½ to 7 years in State prison when he is sentenced on April 20th.

The Endicott Police Department arrested 44 year old David Scanlin for 3rd degree burglary, Grand Larceny and & 3rd degree Arson. Back on January 11th, Scanlin is accused of setting fire to a vehicle parked at J&K Auto Clinic, later that day, Scanlin is accused of stealing a vehicle on the lot at Tank's Auto Sales. Scanlin was remanded to the Broome County Jail without bail.

There have been some changes to the law since it first went into effect where more criminal defendants can be sent to jail before their trials, other changes allow judges to set bail for more gun crimes, hate crimes and repeat offenses.
The Preservation League of New York State and the New York State Council on the Arts announced that the Chenango County Historical Society & Museum has received a 2022 Technical Assistance Grant for $4,000. The grant money will be used to fund a Building Condition Assessment of the museum’s property at 77 Silver Street in Norwich. 19 projects in 14 counties across the state shared in $68,000 in grant money.

Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies responded Thursday to the Town of Hamden for a custody dispute complaint. Deputies discovered that the legal guardian of a child under one year old, had permitted parenting time for the biological father to see the child for a specified period of time at his residence in Sidney. Deputies discovered that 20 year old Tyler Morgan of Sidney allegedly refused to give the child back to the legal guardian when ask to do so. Deputies charged Morgan with Custodial Interference, the child was returned to the legal guardian. Morgan was directed to appear to the Town of Sidney Town Court at a later date to answer for the charge.

Broome County Sheriff’s Office investigated a domestic incident January 3rd called in by the Cortland County Sheriff’s Office in the Town of Lisle, where a female victim was being held against her will by a male suspect armed with a revolver. Broome County deputies located the suspect's vehicle, initiated a pursuit where the suspect eventually fled on foot and the female victim was secured by deputies. 39 year old Thomas Sunderland of Richford is accused of firing 2 rounds towards the female victim, he was arrested & is in custody at the Cortland County Correctional Facility. Sunderland was charged with Criminal possession of a weapon, Criminal use of a firearm, Reckless endangerment, Unlawful imprisonment, Attempted assault & Criminal possession of a controlled substance.
Broome County Sheriff’s Deputies responded Friday to Glen Aubrey for a domestic dispute involving a firearm. 30 year old Shawn Sabo is accused of firing a round into a wall, he complied with commands to disarm and was detained without incident, Sabo was charged with 8 counts of Reckless Endangerment & 3 counts of Endangering the Welfare of a child, there were no injuries stemming from the incident.

State Police announced that in the month of December, members from Troop "C" removed 41 impaired drivers off the roadways. 2 of those impaired drivers also had a child under the age of 15 in the vehicle with them. 14 of those drivers were more than double the legal limit. 2 drivers had been previously convicted of DWI in the last 10 years, 5 of those drivers were under the influence of drugs.
Broome County Sheriff’s Deputies responded early Thursday Morning to the Tuscarora Trailer Park on State Line Road in the Town of Windsor for a vehicle driving through the park firing a weapon out of the vehicle window. The suspect, 19 year old Jeremiah Baxter of Windsor, fled the area in his vehicle, he was quickly located & taken into custody without incident. The rifle used was also recovered. Baxter allegedly fired a single round into an occupied residence inside the park, breaking a window, no one was struck or sustained any injuries. Baxter was transported to the Broome County Sheriff’s Office for processing and ultimately taken to Central Arraignment. He was charged with Reckless Endangerment.

Delaware County Sheriff's Office arrested 36 year old Derrik Koehler of Walton for operating a motor vehicle while the registration or privilege is suspended, along with other charges, following a motor vehicle accident. On December 11th, Deputies were dispatched to an accident in the Town of Walton, Koehler was the driver of the vehicle, which had improper plates. On December 31st, Deputies arrested Koehler, He was scheduled to appear before the Town of Walton Court at a later date.
The Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 21 year old Kathleen Lapine of Oneonta following a traffic stop on December 27th in the Town of Oneonta. Lapine was charged with Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a motor vehicle and Speed over 55, she was ordered to appear in the Town of Oneonta court at a later date.

Delaware County Sheriff's Office announced the arrest of 30-year-old Michael Vogel of Delhi. On December 27th, Deputies picked up Vogel at the Village of Sidney Police Department, he was arrested on the Bench Warrant for failure to appear. Vogel was arraigned & was released on his own recognizance, he was ordered to appear in court at a later date.
The Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 38-year-old Christine Gates of Morris, following an investigation into reports of physical abuse. Gates is accused of abusing 2 juveniles, she was released on an appearance ticket returnable to the Town of Morris Court at a later date.
