State Forest Rangers & the Otsego County Sheriff's Office conducted a Wilderness Search On December 25 at 6:18 pm., the Sheriff’s Office called for assistance in the search for a patient who jumped out of an ambulance. The ambulance was transporting the 47-year-old unidentified Unadilla resident from Fox Hospital to Bassett Medical Center, Ambulance personnel pursued the patient but lost sight near Walnut and Linden Streets, they searched a wooded area, about 5 hours later, a civilian notified Rangers that someone was pounding on the front door of a house on Linden Street, a Deputy found the patient sitting at the bus stop shelter and drove the patient to the hospital.

1 of the new laws going into effect on Thursday January 1st, is an effort to crack down on money laundering and "shell company" secrecy, the New York LLC Transparency Act stipulated that liability companies (LLC's) formed in or authorized to do business in New York must now disclose their "beneficial owners", or the actual people who own or control the company, to the Department of State. Existing companies have until the end of the year to file, while any new LLC's formed on or after January 1, 2026, January 1 have to submit the information within 30 days of formation.

Norwich Firefighters were assisted by the Oxford, North Norwich and Sherburne Fire Departments, Chenango County Office of Emergency Services, NYSEG, Norwich Water Department, Chenango County Sheriff's Office.
The Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 38 year old Mark Cassaday of Oneonta, for Promoting Prison Contraband & Criminal Mischief at the Otsego County Jail. Sheriff investigators were notified by Correctional Facility staff that an inmate had intentionally damaged an outlet cover and used the broken pieces to fashion makeshift weapons. Cassady was processed before being returned to the Otsego County Correctional Facility to await Centralized Arraignment.

Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 57 year old Gregory Haggerty of South New Berlin, for DWI, Operating a Motor Vehicle with a BAC of .08 or higher, Aggravated Unlicensed Operation, Failure to Keep Right & several other charges, following a reported accident in the Town of Morris. Haggerty fled the scene on foot, Deputies located the vehicle down an embankment off of State Highway 23 and Wells Rd. Haggerty was located down the road and found to be intoxicated by alcohol, he was taken to the Sheriff’s Office for arrest processing & was released on appearance tickets for the Town of Morris Court at a later date.
The New York Lottery announced 2 second-prize-winning tickets were sold for the December 24th Powerball drawing, 1 ticket was sold at Smiley's on West Main Street in Sidney & another in Lindenhurst, worth $1,000,000. The Powerball drawing is televised every Monday, Wednesday and Saturday at 10:59 pm. 1 ticket sold in Arkansas that matched all six numbers, for a prize of $1.8 billion dollars, which ranks as the 2nd-largest U.S. lottery jackpot ever won.

Chenango County Sheriff's Office arrested 44 year old Luis Calixto of Norwich, following a complaint from a local business regarding a larceny in progress. Calixto allegedly removed items from their packaging and attempted to conceal them and attempted to avoid store personnel and law enforcement. Deputies discovered that Calixto was in possession of small wax envelopes containing a white powder-like substance, as well as a small canister containing a white crystal-like substance, he was processed and arraigned and was remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility without bail on charges of Burglary, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Criminal Mischief and Tampering with Physical Evidence
Trout Creek Fire Department responded at about 11:20 Tuesday morning for a tractor trailer into a house. Nobody was home at the residence and that the driver of the truck was not injured. Masonville Volunteer Fire Department, State DOT, State Police, Delaware County Sheriff's Office, NYSEG and a code enforcement officer also responded, State Highway 206 was closed, All units were back in service around 3:30 PM.

The US Department of Justice announced the results of Operation Relentless Justice, a coordinated enforcement effort to identify, track, and arrest child sex predators. The nationwide crackdown resulted in over 205 child victims being located and the arrests of over 293 child sexual abuse offenders, including 6 in the upstate counties. The coordinated effort was executed over the course of 2 weeks by all 56 FBI field offices, the Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section in the Department’s Criminal Division, and U.S. Attorneys’ offices around the country. The Department urges the public to remain vigilant and report suspected exploitation of a child through the FBI's tip-line at 1-800-CALL-FBI (225-5324), tips.fbi.gov.

State Comptroller's Office conducted an audit of the Otsego County – Court and Trust Funds, the Key Finding was that the Treasurer, County Clerk and Surrogate’s Court Clerk generally maintained appropriate records and properly reported court and trust funds. However, $74,150 from 15 actions that improperly remained in the Treasurer’s custody that he should have turned over to the State Comptroller as abandoned property. The Treasurer should ensure that all money deemed abandoned property is paid to the State Comptroller in a timely manner.

Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 38 year old Christopher Decker of Unadilla, following the report of a domestic dispute. Decker was charged with Assault, Criminal Obstruction of Breathing or Blood Circulation, Unlawful Imprisonment, Endangering the Welfare of a Child & Harassment. Decker was being held at the Otsego County Sheriff’s Office pending Arraignment, he is scheduled to appear in Unadilla Town Court at a later date.

There were 23 respiratory outbreaks in hospitals and 51 respiratory outbreaks in nursing homes in the 1st week of December, a total of 302 viral respiratory pathogen outbreaks have been reported from hospitals and nursing homes. The US Marines announced that their Toys for Tots New York Holiday Train will go through the Southern Tier this Saturday, starting at the East Binghamton Yard, from 9:00 AM to 10:30 AM, it will then head to Bainbridge at the Walnut Avenue Crossing, at about 11:50 AM, there will be free donuts, hot chocolate, kids' activities, music, giveaways, and more. Governor Kathy Hochul announced the award of more than $32 million to help local governments enhance safety on their roads by reducing instances of vehicles inadvertently straying from their lanes and lessening the severity of crashes. The funding is part of the State DOT's “Safe System” approach toward zero highway deaths and will support roadway improvements; Locally, in Otsego County, the Towns of Hartwick and Middlefield, will receive $700,000 to install guide rail on County Road 11. In New York State, 44 percent of crash fatalities occur when a vehicle departs from its lane.

62 year old Robert Trago of Hancock, was sentenced in Delaware County Court to 5 years of in prison for his conviction of 2nd degree Assault. In September of 2024, State Police were dispatched to the Town of Hancock for shots fired with injuries, Trago shot at his neighbor in the arm while he was walking his dog in front of Trago’s residence, The victim was transported to Albany Medical Center by helicopter but was later released after the bleeding stopped. State Police Forensic Identification Unit Lab was able to match the bullet recovered from the victim’s arm with Trago's firearm.

Due to Thursday night's drop in temperatures, The Norwich BID announced that the 2025 Holiday Tree Lighting will now be NEXT Thursday, December 11th at 6:30pm in West Park in downtown Norwich.
The Uplift Collective of Sidney Center will host the annual Holiday in the Hamlet Saturday from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at the Sidney Center Fire Station. Broome County Sheriff's Office arrested 46 year old Adam Smith of Kirkwood after Deputies responded Wednesday to report of a man driving in circles on someone's lawn, firing a weapon & striking an electrical transformer & hitting another vehicle while leaving. On Thursday investigators learned that Smith was outside his residence armed with a weapon, he went back inside when officers responded, After a brief standoff, Smith was taken into custody without incident. A search warrant was executed, they seized 2 unregistered handguns, 40-long guns and narcotics. Smith was charged with 2 Counts of Criminal Possession of a Firearm, Criminal Mischief, Reckless Endangerment, 5 Counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance & Illegal Discharge of a Firearm, he was turned over the Broome County Correctional Facility for Arraignment. The Broome County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by State Police in this investigation.

Delaware County Sheriff's Office arrested 26 year old Jacob Roman of Walton with 2 counts of Grand Larceny, and 1 count of Burglary, On October 18th, Deputies were dispatched to Benton Avenue in the Village of Walton for a reported Burglary in Progress where they located, identified and arrested Roman. On November 21st, Deputies located and arrested Roman on new charges after it was alleged that he had taken the victim’s credit card and made numerous purchases on the card which amounted to over $1,500 without authorization. Roman was transported to the Delaware County Correctional Facility for arraignment.
The 14th Annual Holiday Craft Fair will be held by the Bainbridge Guilford Teacher's Association on Saturday from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM in the BG High School Gym. Over 40 local crafter & artisans will participate, there will be raffle & door prizes, people are asked to bring a non-perishable food item, pet food or a hygiene product as a donation & to get a ticket for a door prize.

33 year old Corey Green of Vestal was sentenced in U.S. District Court to 19 years in federal prison for his role in a drug trafficking conspiracy spanning the United States. Green admitted that he possessed, distributed, and conspired to distribute large quantities of fentanyl, heroin & Methamphetamine in and around Broome County, he also admitted to possessing 3 handguns and 2 AK-47 style weapons to further his drug-trafficking activities, while being prohibited from possessing firearms due to previous convictions, & conspiring to launder his drug-trafficking proceeds. Green was sentenced to a 19 year prison term, concurrent 3 and 5-year terms of post-release supervision, and a money judgment of over $185,000 of unrecovered proceeds from his drug trafficking. Co-conspirator Michael Jacobs of Endicott, was previously sentenced to 10 years and 10 months term of imprisonment & 5 years of post-release supervision.

Norwich Police responded Tuesday to the report of an Emu running loose on Chenango Avenue. The Emu was eventually contained to a fenced in yard on Francis Avenue, which kept the bird away from downtown traffic. The owner was notified, RTG of Norwich assisted in the effort and the emu was successfully brought inside the owner's trailer, where it was returned to its home in Bainbridge.
Attorney General Letitia James won a court order preventing the federal government from enforcing a provision in the so-called "One Big Beautiful Bill Act" that would strip Planned Parenthood of its Medicaid funds, jeopardizing health care for millions of low-income patients across the country. Attorney General James joined a coalition of 21 other attorneys general and the governor of Pennsylvania in suing the Department of Health and Human Services to block the provision, The United States District Court for the District of Massachusetts issued a ruling granting the coalition's motion for a preliminary injunction, ordering HHS to continue paying Medicaid funds to all states and clinics in the coalition.

Broome County District Attorney's office announced today that Nicholas Neer of Binghamton, was sentenced in Broome County Court to 7 to 14 years of incarceration following his pleas of guilty to 3rd degree Burglary and Criminal Possession of Stolen Property. Neer’s convictions stem from an investigation earlier this year by the State Police and the Broome County Sheriff’s Office into a series of burglaries and thefts in the towns of Windsor, Union, and Kirkwood, they identified Neer as a key participant responsible for breaking into multiple properties and possessing stolen items tied to those incidents.

The program's opening was delayed due to the 43-day federal government shutdown, Assistance is available on a first-come, first-served basis, and households can apply online, by mail or in person at local social services departments. New survey findings regarding Governor Hochul's distraction-free schools law have been released, they received over 350 responses from school administrators who implemented smartphone restrictions this year, 92% reported a smooth transition to the new policy, 83% of schools experienced more positive classroom environments and better student engagement & 75% of teachers reported that the distraction-free policy improved their ability to teach effectively.
39 year old Michael Davis pleaded guilty in Broome County Court to 1st Degree Assault stemming from a violent attack, on October 22, where Davis acted with the intent to cause serious physical injury to another individual by means of am unidentified instrument, Davis will serve 7 years in state prison, followed by 5 years of post-release supervision, Davis is scheduled to be sentenced in Broome County Court on March 3, 2026.

DEP Commissioner Rohit Aggarwala and Delaware County Board of Supervisors Chair Tina Molé signed an intergovernmental agreement that strengthens watershed protection while supporting the long-term vitality of our communities. The Broome County Sheriff's Office and family members of a missing Vestal man are still seeking answers to help locate 69 year old Eddie Rouhana, who been missing since January 11th. Rouhana was last seen at his business, Cars-R-US, located at 1170 of Upper Front Street in the Town of Chenango. Cell phone records show his phone was last used later that same day. The Rouhana family is offering a $20,000 reward for any information that leads directly to Eddie Rouhana’s whereabouts. The State Department of Criminal Justice Services & Ithaca Police were looking for 13 year old Kalia Hobbs of Ithaca, who was considered a missing endangered child, who had not been seen since Monday Afternoon at about 2:00 PM. The alert was dropped at about 6:30 This Morning, with Hobbs considered to be safe.
State Police and local law enforcement agencies throughout the state are continuing their Thanksgiving weekend patrols to target impaired and reckless driving, drivers using electronic devices, and a special emphasis on abiding the state's Move Over Law, through this Sunday.
Chenango County Board of Supervisors passed the 2026 county budget this week, the $121.4 million budget spending plan represents almost a 7% increase of last year, but the budget was still under the State's tax levy increase cap.

Delaware County District Attorney Shawn Smith announced the indictment of 18 year old James Tinebra of Plainview, A Delaware County Grand Jury indicted Tinebra for Burglary & Grand Larceny for stealing a State Police Vehicle from a repair shop in Davenport on November 5th at about 3:45 AM. Tinebra was located later in the day by the Schodack Police Department in Rensselaer County, where he is also facing separate charges.
Broome County Sheriff's Office & area firefighters responded Friday to the report of a car crashing into a house in the Town of Union. Responding deputies found that the driver, an 82-year-old female, was attempting to back out of a residential driveway and mistakenly accelerated forward off the driveway and into the adjacent house, rupturing a natural gas line. NYSEG was alerted and the gas line was turned off, nearby residents were temporarily evacuated, The driver was transported to UHS Wilson Medical Center for minor injuries. No charges were filed.

A State Police Patrol car was struck by another motorist at about 8:10 AM this morning on State Route 17C near Chaumont Drive. Police state that a Toyota Camry driven by an unidentified 69 year old female failed to yield the right of way while making a left turn into a parking lot & collided with the Trooper's vehicle, The Trooper sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to Wilson Memorial Hospital & was treated and released. The operator of the Toyota was also transported to the hospital.

Guglielmetti was charged with Criminal Possession of Stolen Property, Tampering with Physical Evidence, Unlawful Fleeing a Police Officer in a Motor Vehicle, Obstruction of Governmental Administration, Reckless Endangerment & resisting arrested, he face court action at a later date.
The New York State Department of Health has sent out an alert, warning New Yorkers or a new scam. Health department officials stated that Telephone scammers are mimicking the Department, some New Yorkers have been receiving phone calls from people identifying themselves as a Department of Health Employee, they will ask for information about a controlled substance prescription, adding to the confusion, the caller ID may even say the caller is from the Department of Health. Officials said that the Health Department will not make such calls to private citizens, they advise people who receive these calls to hang up & alert local law enforcement.

The City of Norwich Police Department arrested 51 year old Delf King of Norwich for 2nd & 4rd Degree Robbery, plus criminal mischief & Grand larceny, following an investigation of a robbery in the City on April 6th. King is accused of attacking a victim on East Main Street, causing multiple bleeding injuries, & forcibly stole the victim's cell phone, and smashed it, he then retreated to his residence, retrieved a firearm, and pointed it at the victim. King appeared in Chenango County Arraignment Court where bail was set at $5,000 cash, He was remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility and will appear in City of Norwich Court at a later date.
Chobani announced that the City of Rome Planning Board approved Chobani's plan to build a facility, consisting of 8 buildings. A new design was required as the FAA said parts of the original facility were too close to the runway of the Griffiss Airport, and the 130 foot building is being moved to another part of the campus.

Broome County Sheriff’s Office Detective Division was contacted by a YouTube channel, which posts videos catching child predators who have been interacting with a decoy posing as a juvenile. 54 year old Denis Dean of Endwell had been speaking with a decoy posing as a 13-year-old female, he sent multiple inappropriate images of himself to the decoy and arranged to meet in-person Monday with someone he believed to be a 13-year-old female girl, Dean was confronted by members of EDP Watch YouTube channel in Endicott, Members of the Broome County Sheriff’s Office and Endicott Police responded and took Dean into custody. In subsequent interviews, Dean was charged with Attempted Rape, 4 counts of Attempted Disseminating Indecent Material to Minors, and he was arraigned and remanded to the Broome County Correctional Facility without bail.

51 year old Lawrence Slater of Norwich pleaded guilty to vehicular manslaughter and driving while intoxicated in Chenango County Court and was sentenced to 5-to-15-years in state prison. Slater had a BAC of twice the legal limit on April 12th, the ensuing crash killed 62-year-old Steven Biviano of Oxford, who was pronounced dead at the scene, Slater was taken to Wilson Hospital where his BAC was .18,
The Broome County Sheriff's Office reported that a fugitive from Broome County was apprehended in Polk County Florida. 44-year-old Dustin Yannuzzi was wanted on a warrant issued in Broome County for Possession of Methamphetamine with Intent to Sell, Tampering with Evidence, Criminal Use of Drug Paraphernalia, and Fleeing to Elude, Yannuzzi was removed from the vehicle and arrested without incident, he was found to be in possession of methamphetamine & faces charges in Florida, he will be returned to New York shortly.

State Police arrested 43 year old Todd Seamon of Hartwick for 1st Degree Burglary, after Troopers were dispatched to a report of a burglary on State Route 28 in Schuyler Lake where a victim was assaulted. An investigation revealed that after an on-going dispute, Seamon forced entry into a 77-year-old's home and struck the victim multiple times causing injuries. The victim was transported to Bassett Hospital with what appear to be non-life-threatening injuries. Troopers located Seamon and he was arrested and processed. Seamon was transported to the Otsego County Correctional Facility for Centralized Arraignment.
Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 3 people following a traffic stop for a driver known to not have a valid driver's license. 24 year old Deanna Eignor of Hobart was stopped, her & a passenger, 26-year-old Schoen Stocks of Jefferson were found to have fentanyl, scales and packaging materials in the vehicle. Eignor & Stocks were charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Criminally Using Drug Paraphernalia, and Eignor was charged with Aggravated Unlicensed Operation & other traffic violations, she had been released on her own recognizance on unrelated charges, & was additionally charged with Criminal Contempt. 28-year-old Wesley Eignor of Hobart was charged with Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle after he arrived on the scene & did not have a valid license. Deanna Eignor was held on $5,000 bail, Stocks & Wesley Eignor were released on appearance tickets.
