Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies arrested a Walton resident June 19th on Delaware Street in the Village of Walton.  Deputies observed a speeding vehicle traveling north on Delaware Street, they stopped the vehicle and identified the driver as 28-year old Kassondra  Pierce of Walton,  A routine DMV inquiry revealed that Pierce’s driving privileges and vehicle registration were suspended due to an insurance lapse.  Pierce was charged with unlicensed operation of a vehicle, speeding, operating an uninspected motor vehicle as well as other charges, her vehicle was towed from the scene & she was released to appear in the Village of Walton Court on a later date.

State Police and local law enforcement statewide will increase patrols to combat drunk, impaired, and reckless driving throughout Memorial Day weekend. The enforcement period started today and runs through Tuesday, June 1st. Memorial Day is one of the busiest travel holidays of the year and Drivers can expect to see sobriety checkpoints and increased patrols by State Police and local law enforcement agencies. Last year, Police issued over 8,000 Tickets over the Memorial Day Holiday Weekend.

State Police arrested 29 year old Matthew Bonser of Nanticoke, Pennsylvania for 1st degree Assault, Burglary & Robbery, he was also charged as a Fugitive for Justice in Pennsylvania.    Police responded Saturday to a violent altercation in the Town of Barker, where Bonser allegedly broke into a residence & attacked a 71 year old resident, who was taken to Wilson Hospital.  Bonser is accused of going to another residence & threatening the occupant with a knife & stealing his car.   Bonser was spotted by a Broome County Deputy  & Troopers, he was pursued until he crashed into another vehicle and a pole on Colesville Road.  Bonser & the  87 year old driver in that crash were taken to Wilson Hospital.  Bonser was processed at Broome County Central Arraignment and Processing.

Governor Cuomo today announced that State Police and local
law enforcement will increase patrols to crack down on impaired driving and
underage drinking through Halloween. This special enforcement campaign runs
from today through Friday, November 1st.
Motorists can expect a number of sobriety checkpoints and additional DWI
patrols, Law enforcement will also be looking for motorists who are using their
phones and other electronic devices while behind the wheel.  Drivers should also remember to "move
over" for emergency and hazard vehicles stopped on the side of the road.
The Bainbridge Chamber of Commerce announced that they will
hold their annual Commitment to Community Dinner Saturday at 6:00 PM at the

State Police are investigating a 1 vehicle crash on State
Route 7 near Harpursville, where the car struck a tree.  A passenger was killed and the name of the
driver or the driver's status has not yet been released.
The State Department of Agriculture & Markets announced
the presence of Listeria in raw milk collected from the Muddy River Dairy of
Otego.  Anyone who purchased raw milk
from Muddy River Dairy should dispose of it & contact the farm, more

State Police announced that the pedestrian struck by a car
on Friday evening near the Unadilla Valley Sports Center has died.  20 year old Jonathan Mayzak of South Carolina
succumbed to his injuries on Sunday afternoon at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in
Utica.  An autopsy will be performed at
the Onondaga County Medical Examiner's Office in the near future.  The investigation is continuing with the
State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit and The Chenango County District
Attorney's Office will be consulted at the conclusion of the investigation as
to whether additional charges are warranted against the driver, 31 year old
Edward Burnett of Utica.
The American Red Cross is holding 2 Blood drives in Sidney
& Oneonta today, to address the current blood shortage.  The Sidney blood drive will be from 2:00 to
6:00 PM at the Sidney Elks Lodge, 104 River Street the Oneonta Blood drive is

Local sales tax collections for
the first 2 quarters of 2019 grew at a moderate pace compared to last year,
according to State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli.
Collections during the 1st & 2nd quarters grew by 3.4 &
3.2%,   most regions upstate showed weak
growth, with Central New York, the Mohawk Valley and North Country growing by
about 1%, the Southern Tier fared better with a growth rate above the statewide
average of 3.3 percent.

Tuesday morning, Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies were
dispatched to the scene of a tractor trailer rollover accident at the
intersection of County Highway 26 and East River Road in the Town of
Hamden.  51 year old Ronald Greene of
Willow Grove, Pennsylvania was operating a trailer with liquid sugar on County
Highway 26 when the truck experienced brake failure, Greene lost control &
overturned.  Greene was not injured; the
road was closed to traffic during the accident investigation and cleanup.  Greene was ticketed for failure to stop at a
stop sign and inadequate brakes and was directed to answer those charges in the
Town of Hamden Court.

State Police arrested 20 year old Bradley Dixon Jr., of
Madison for DWI & Unlawful Possession of Marijuana, after Troopers observed
Dixon's vehicle partially off the roadway on County Route 36 in the town of
Guilford, Dixon was sleeping in the driver’s seat, with the car running.   Dixon was issued appearance tickets to the
town of Guilford court on Tuesday.
The A.O. Fox Hospital Foundation hosted its 20th Annual Golf
Classic at the Oneonta Country Club on June 24, bringing 27 donors and 140
golfers to raise funds for a new ultrasound machine in Fox’s department of
surgical services; they raised more than $50,000 this year.
State Police arrested 30 year
old Amber Snell of Bainbridge for Aggravated DWI with Child Less than 15 as
Passenger plus 4 counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child & several
other violations.   Snell was observed by
a Trooper on County Route 32 in the town of Oxford driving with 4 unrestrained
children in the back seat, she was arrested, & the children were turned
over to a sober 3rd party.  Snell was
arraigned in the town of Oxford court & was released on her own
recognizance and will reappear on July 8th.

State Police responded to the Depot Street fishing access at
the fork of the Chenango and Tioughnioga Rivers Thursday evening, following the
report stated that 3 kayakers were in distress, 2 kayakers were able to get out
of the river on their own but one kayaker was unconscious after his kayak
overturned.  The kayaker has been
identified as 72 year old Dennis Healey of Chenango Forks, CPR was attempted,
but Healey was pronounced dead.  The
investigation revealed that Healey was kayaking with a group of people, Healey
capsized and became entangled in debris, and an autopsy revealed that Healey
likely suffered a cardiac medical emergency.

Governor Cuomo announced that the State
Police will target speeding and aggressive drivers during a special
weeklong traffic enforcement initiative. This year's "Speed Week"
enforcement crackdown started yesterday and runs through next Wednesday.
Troopers will also actively patrol highway work zones and will target drivers
who violate the "Move Over" Law.

26-year-old Haylery Rodriguez of Johnson City was issued
tickets Friday for Unlicensed Operator and 7 improper restraint tickets.  State Police responded to the report of a
several children rising unrestrained in a vehicle leaving the Tioga Downs.  A trooper stopped the vehicle on State Route
17 & discovered 12 people in a vehicle that seats 7.  7 children ranging from ages 3 to 11 that
were not in child seats, booster seats or even belted in the vehicle &
Rodriguez was driving with only a learner’s permit and did not have a licensed
driver in the vehicle. The trooper stayed with the vehicle for 2 1/2 hours to
ensure everyone in the vehicle was picked up by a licensed driver with the
proper safety equipment.
The Pennsylvania-New York Joint Interstate Bridge Commission
will conduct its annual meeting today at the Binghamton State Office Building,
44 Hawley Street. The meeting will be held on the 18th floor and scheduled to
begin at 10:00 AM, Representatives from the State DOT and the Pennsylvania DOT
will discuss matters related to the 10 bridges crossing the Delaware River to
Pike and Wayne counties in Pennsylvania.

online surveys asking constituents to weigh in on current issues.  On legislation to allow undocumented
immigrants to obtain driver's licenses, 84% of residents opposed allowing
undocumented immigrants to obtain drivers licenses; 13% supported the measure
& 3% were undecided.  The survey
results on legislation to provide free college tuition for children of members
of our military who lost their lives in the line of duty, also known as Gold
Star Families, showed that 87% supported providing free college tuition
assistance to Gold Star Families 8% opposed it and 5% were undecided.
The Norwich City School District released a video of a
Norwich bus driver Samantha Call, saving a student from being hit by an illegally
passing car.  Congressman Anthony
Brindisi, plus officials from Broome County Sheriff’s Office, the state
Association of Pupil Transportation & Chenango Valley School District
officials will be in attendance as Brindisi lays out plan to prevent illegal
school bus passing and improve student safety at the Chenango Valley Bus

The Ed Wessels Canoe Race was held Saturday on the
Susquehanna River, with over 70 boats competing in a variety of classes. Trevor

pro race, Paddlers from 5 state & 2 Canadian Provinces completed in the 20
mile looped race from Otego to Sidney, the race is considered a lead up to the

The State DOT announced that construction is resuming on the
$152 million 2nd phase of the 1-81/Route 17 Prospect Mountain reconstruction
project in the city of Binghamton. The project is reconstructing nearly 9 miles
of highway, replacing bridges and reconfiguring ramps to significantly improve
traffic patterns in one of the Southern Tier's busiest corridors. The
improvements will also enable the DOT to request federal designation of a
4-mile stretch of Route 17 as I-86.  The
project is reconstructing the interchange of I-81 Exit 4 and Route 7 by replacing
the viaduct bridge over the Railroad tracks and Broad Avenue. Additionally, 2
new bridges are being built over the Chenango River in the city of Binghamton.
The Work is scheduled to be complete by December 2020.
April is National Distracted Driving Awareness Month &
Delaware County Sheriff’s Office is teaming up with the National Highway
Traffic Safety Administration, for a high-visibility enforcement effort today
through April 15th. Law enforcement officers will intensify their efforts to
stop texting and other forms of distracted driving by issuing citations for
distraction violations. The “U Drive U Text U Pay” campaign aims to spread the
message about the dangers of distracted driving, and to remind drivers of the
consequences of their distracted actions.
According to NHTSA, between 2012-2017, nearly 20,000 people died in
crashes involving a distracted driver. In fact, there were 3,166 people killed
in motor vehicle crashes involving distracted drivers in 2017.

Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies, Walton Village Police, New York State Police, & several local Emergency Squads responded Thursday to a head-on collision, with 5 victims and 1 entrapment, on County Highway 21 near the intersection of Russell Road in the Town of Walton. The Investigation by Sheriff's Deputies determined that 42 year old Jeremy Shaw of Walton was driving a pickup truck when he crossed over the center line and struck a SUV head on driven by 43 year old Michael Franzese of Pearl River. Franzese was transported to Delaware Valley Hospital in Walton with head and facial injuries and was later transferred to UHS Wilson Hospital in Johnson City, 41 year old Diane Franzese, 12 year old Anthony Franzese and 10 year old Angelina Franzese were also transported to Delaware Valley Hospital in Walton, they suffered various injuries and were treated and released. Jeremy Shaw sustained injuries to his head and lower extremities, as well as possible internal injuries, and was airlifted to Albany Medical Center. The cause of this accident remains under investigation.

State Police reported that 2 train cars derailed near Hale Eddy in the town of Deposit at about 2:20 this morning. The engineers of the freight train were not injured, high river water washed away the rock & a culvert underneath the tracks, some diesel fuel entered the West Branch of the Delaware River, the DEC Hazmat team has responded. The 2 derailed cars are hovering over the river, but did not go into the river. The clean-up & the investigation are ongoing.
Delaware County Sheriff Deputies responded June 3rd to County Hwy 33 in the Town of Kortright for a report of a personal injury auto accident. The driver, 58 year old Dominick Forte of Harpersfield was transported by Life Net Helicopter to Albany Medical Center for treatment of his injuries. Deputies arrested Forte for Aggravated Unlicensed Operation, DWI, Aggravated DWI, Speed unreasonable and prudent, failure to keep right, no seat belt and unlicensed operator. Forte was released on his own recognizance and will appear in the Town of Kortright Court at a later date.

Delaware County Sheriff's Office responded to a personal injury, rollover UTV accident on Bloomville Hill Road in the Town of Meredith. the driver; 27 year old Nicholas Santomero, of Brewster, suffered a medical emergency and lost control of the side-by-side UTV which subsequently rolled over, ejecting Santomero and his passenger, 26 year old Cody Petrucci of Harrison. Deputies reported that neither one was wearing a seat belt or a helmet, they were transported to O’Connor Hospital, Petrucci was later transferred to Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown, for treatment of a serious head injury. Nicholas Santomero was treated at O’Connor Hospital and released. The investigation is continuing.
The 28th Annual Edward Wessels Canoe Regatta will be held tomorrow; it is sponsored by the Sidney Chamber of Commerce. The race will be starting at the Otego boat launch & will conclude in Keith Clark Park in Sidney. Awards and a dinner will be held after the race at the Sidney Elks Club, River Street. The race is considered a warm up for the upcoming General Clinton Canoe Regatta on the Memorial Day Weekend.

State Police & local law enforcement agencies will participate in a special Thanksgiving holiday traffic enforcement initiative to keep the public safe during the Thanksgiving holiday. State Police will have sobriety checkpoints, an underage drinker enforcement and the "Operation Hang Up" initiative, which targets distracted drivers. Police will also be making sure that drivers “Move Over” for emergency vehicles responding to emergency situations as part of the enforcement effort through Sunday night.
The Thanksgiving Day Turkey Trot for Hospice will be held in Oneonta tomorrow. The race is a fundraiser for Catskill area Hospice, the 5K run or 2.5K walk will begin at the Oneonta Boys & Girls club on River street starting at 9:00 AM, registrations will begin at 7:30 AM.

State Police arrested 35 year old Matthew Watkins of Windsor for felony Aggravated Unlicensed Operation & other traffic violations. A Trooper observed Watkins driving with an expired vehicle registration, in the Town of Kirkwood, Watkins had a revoked NewYork drivers license with 21 suspensions. Watkins was issued tickets returnable to the Town of Kirkwood Court on September 19th.
