State Police are renewing efforts in the investigation into the homicide of Barry Marquart of Oneonta, a case that has remained unsolved for more than 45 years. Marquart was reported missing on November 9, 1980, by his father, he was 30-years-old and living in Binghamton with a roommate who reported not seeing him for 2 days. Marquart’s vehicle was located at a rest area off Interstate 81 in the town of Dickinson, His body was discovered in the Chenango River, about 500 feet behind the rest area, the autopsy determined the cause of death to be drowning but also indicated he sustained injuries consistent with blunt force trauma to his head and face. State Police are asking the public to look at a composite sketch developed in 1980 of a person of interest, at troopers.ny.gov; The white male would’ve been in his 20’s or 30’s in 1980, 5’ 10” between 140-160 lbs, The individual is not currently a suspect; has never been publicly identified, Anyone with information should call (607)561-7400 and ask to leave a message with Major Crimes.

The Village of Sidney announced that Lower River Street, plus Winegard, Oak and Colegrove may experience temporary water disruptions through about 6:30pm, due to a water leak.

The Masonville Town Board announced that tonight's meeting has been re-scheduled, their next meeting will be held on Wednesday April 8th at 7:30 PM.

The Unadilla Fire Department announced an update on the I-88 Closure between Exit 10 and Exit 12. I-88 is currently closed westbound at Exit 12, to Exit 10, also the Route 357 bridge over the Susquehanna River is closed at this time, due to tractor trailers being unable to safely navigate the detour turn on to State Route 7. Motorists are urged to allow for extra travel time, and exercise caution while traveling along the detour on State Route 7.

Sidney Police Department responded to a 3 vehicle head on collision Thursday Morning at about 10:20 AM on State Route 8 & River Street. Upon arrival, officers determined that a commercial Box Truck traveling southbound on State Route 8, was involved in a head-on collision with 2 vehicles traveling in the opposite direction. 1 driver sustained injuries and was transported by Lifenet to Upstate Medical University Hospital for treatment. The other two drivers were treated at Tri-Town Regional Hospital and subsequently released. The Sidney Police Department was assisted at the scene by the Sidney Fire Department, Sidney EMS, State Police & DOT, among others, The cause of the accident remains under investigation at this time.

The Afton Sertoma Club's Goofy Golf event will be held at the Afton School Saturday, starting at 11:00 am, participants will play miniature golf throughout the school building, the event is the Sertoma's key fundraiser to fund area programs.

U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, who is a member of the U.S. Senate Appropriations Committee, announced that several of her priorities were included in the 2026 Energy and Water Development, Commerce-Justice-Science, and Environment funding bills. $11.75 million in funding will go to the Delaware River Basin Restoration Program to support wildlife, improve water quality, and enhance recreational access to the basin, $28 million was allocated to help New York households increase the energy efficiency of their homes and lower their energy bills.

The State Department of Motor Vehicles will launch a new technology system, All DMV offices will close at 2:00 PM on Friday, Feb. 13, with online and phone services also unavailable during the transition. DMV operations are expected to fully resume at the start of business on Wednesday, February 18, People who need to renew a license or non-driver ID, or complete other transactions before February 13, are encouraged to use the online options on the DMV website.

The State DOT will be closing Bridge 10, Sherwood Road over the West Branch of the Delaware River in the town of Delhi, to through traffic today starting at 9:00 AM to inspect the bridge. The bridge will be re-opened as soon as inspection is complete. The traveling public should use alternate routes.

State Troopers are out in full force with the St. Patricks's Day celebrations coming up this weekend. The STOP-DWI campaign runs through next Tuesday, with St. Patrick's Day on Monday this year. In 2024, the troopers ran their St. Patrick's Day campaign resulted in over 5,500 tickets, they arrested 132 for DWI infractions and they also investigated 199 crashes during that weekend.

Commerce Chenango is hosting an Economic Outlook Breakfast this morning at the Canasawacta Country Club in Norwich. The Keynote Speaker will be Ken Entenmann of NBT, the event begin at 7:30.

The Sidney Elks Lodge will be hosting a Veterans Resource Fair Wednesday from 10:30 AM to 1:30 PM at the lodge on River Street. There will be a free lunch, free haircuts & a variety of services available to area Veterans such as Blood Pressure screenings, and representatives from Medicare, The VA of Albany, The Tri-County Veterans Services as well as financial experts. The Broome County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a head-on collision that claimed the lives of 2 people and a dog on State Route 369 in the Town of Fenton this morning at approximately 9:00 AM. The investigation revealed that the driver of a BMW traveling southbound on State Route 369 veered into the northbound lane at a high rate of speed and collided head-on with a Honda Civic. Both drivers were pronounced dead at the scene. A dog riding in the Honda Civic was also killed in crash. Identities of the victims have not been disclosed pending notification of their families. The Broome County Sheriff’s investigators are asking anyone who has information or may have witnessed this incident to contact the tip Line at 607-778-1196.

The American Association of State Troopers is nationally recognizing New York State Trooper Richard Albert as its 2024 Trooper of the Year. Trooper Albert. On June 16, 2023, as Trooper Albert was making a driver-side approach on a traffic stop of a recklessly speeding vehicle at 112 miles per hour on I-88 near Duanesburg, as he was approaching, he immediately came under fire and was struck in the left shoulder, he retreated for cover while returning fire, he called for back up. The suspect & the driver attempted to flee the scene but a passing tractor-trailer driver turned his vehicle into the path of the fleeing suspect vehicle, they then attempted to carjack a disabled pick-up truck at gunpoint, Trooper Albert continued his pursuit, the suspect fled into the woods, the driver was taken into custody, and Trooper Albert was transported to the hospital. the shooter was located deceased from a self-inflicted gunshot.

The New York State Supreme Court Appellate Division unanimously voted in favor of the city’s eminent domain proceedings against the owners of the Binghamton Plaza. This ruling allows for Binghamton to take ownership of the Plaza and use the property as a space for redevelopment or additional greenspace connecting to the adjacent Cherie Lindsay Park and river walk, as well as fixing up sidewalks and other amenity and facility improvements.

The Delaware County Chamber's annual Legislative Leadership Forum will be held June 17th, at 9:30 am, in the Okun Theatre on the campus of SUNY Delhi. Norwich City Officials announced that Chenango Memorial Hospital will be conducting a Flow Test tomorrow morning between 6:00 & 7:00 AM. Residents in the neighborhood around the hospital may experience dirty water, they should run cold tap water until the water becomes clear again.

Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies arrested 18 year old Craig Longo of Rocky Point for driving while ability impaired by drugs, and criminal possession of a weapon. On September 24th, Deputies were assisting Delhi Police, State Police, and SUNY Delhi Police with a failure to comply traffic violator in the Village of Delhi. Patrols located the vehicle in question on Back River Road in the Town of Delhi, and that Longo had been operating the vehicle, he was released on appearance tickets and directed to appear at the Town of Delhi court at a later date to answer the charges.

The City of Oneonta announced that R.B. Robinson Contracting, will begin construction for River Street and Ann Street Reconstruction and Water Main Replacement project starting today. Work includes replacement of the water mains, new services to curb boxes, stormwater improvements, and pavement replacement from Main Street to past the Oneonta Boys and Girls Club, all of Ann Street, and from Bridge Avenue to the end of River Street. State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli's Office audited the Village of Sidney, covering the period of June 2020 to June 2022. The Audit said that the Board and Clerk-Treasurer did not properly monitor selected financial activities, so the total general fund balance for fiscal year-end 2021-22 was overstated by $571,719. For the past 5 years, the total airport operating deficits exceeded $293,000, Delinquent taxes totaling $575,182 date back to fiscal year 2011-12 and officials cannot identify which taxpayers owe $60,452 of that total. General fund assets were overstated by $288,510 and liabilities by $434,929 in fiscal year 2021-22. 2 capital project funds and 3 community development funds have negative fund balances. The Audit's Recommendations were to determine whether revenues are adequate to cover expenditures, Collect delinquent real property taxes & Maintain proper accounting records, Village officials generally agreed and indicated corrective actions would be taken.

The State Police will increase patrols to combat drunk, impaired, and reckless driving throughout this Memorial Day weekend. The special enforcement period starts today and runs through Tuesday. Drivers can expect to see sobriety checkpoints and increased patrols by State Police and local law enforcement agencies during this holiday weekend. On Memorial Day weekend in 2022, Troopers arrested 213 people for driving while impaired, issued 13,688 total tickets, and investigated 808 crashes, which resulted in four fatalities.

The General Clinton Canoe Regatta gets underway tonight with a variety of events at General Clinton Park, as well as the Generation gap races tonight, races & events will continue throughout the weekend, culminating with the 70 mile races on the Susquehanna River Sunday, Monday Memorial day will be an off day again this year.

The American Red Cross is holding 2 local blood drives today, as blood supplies remain critically low. In Sidney, a blood drive will be held from 1:00 to 6:00 PM at the Sidney Elks Lodge at 104 River Street. Delaware County Public Health announced that a raccoon tested positive for rabies in the town of Delhi. This is the first animal in Delaware County to test positive for rabies in 2023, 1 dog was bitten by a the rabid raccoon, there were no human exposures. According to the owner of the exposed dog, the raccoon was not acting sick or appeared to be rabid. Vaccination records of the dog indicated the animal was not up to date on its rabies vaccinations & will have a 6-month quarantine following State Department of Health guidelines. Public Health recommends that pet owners take advantage of any of the free remaining rabies clinics in Delaware County, in Sidney on May 8th from 5:30PM to 7:30PM at the Sidney Fire Hall: 74 River Street, or in Hancock on May 22nd from 5:30 to 7:30PM at the Hancock Town Hall, at 661 West Main Street.

Halbert said that Gregory served in the Army Air Core, which turned into the Air force, over 28 years, he operated his own insurance business, volunteered in the Sidney & other Fire Departments for over 70 years, he created the Delaware County Arson Task Force and is a long time Sidney Rotary member. Halbert said that every Sidney household will get a copy of the Walton Reporter this week, which spotlights Les Gregory's life. It's been 2 weeks since Anielle “AK” McEwan Lomnicki was hit by a car while walking home from from school in Sidney, an area fundraiser for medical expenses incurred by the family, while AK remains in a Syracuse Hospital, was conducted this past weekend, spokesperson Kim Ayres told WCDO News how much was raised:

Ayres said that the effort was spearheaded by Mike Gavin, his businesses, Gavin's Pizza, Machos Tacos & Tina's Old Fashioned Donuts, with Sidney Joe's Pizza, Club 55, Trackside Dining, Beez Kneez, Roasted Coffee House and Houndstooth also participated, more fundraisers are being planned and all legitimate fundraising efforts will be posted on the “AK Strong” Facebook page. Meanwhile, AK continues to be in a medically induced coma but has been slow but stead improvement, according to her father, Rich Lomnicki.

Chenango County Sheriff's Office responded Wednesday to a report of a trespass in progress at a Town of Norwich residence. A male and two females were found and detained at the location, the vehicle driven to the residence was reported stolen from New Hartford in June. Deputies Arrested Aaron Gabriel, Tami Lyn Gray of Norwich and Jennifer Pollock of Norwich, for 2nd degree Burglary, Criminal Possession of Stolen Property and Conspiracy, all are being held at the Chenango County Correctional Facility.

State Police updated information on Wednesday's head-on collision involving an SUV and a Trailways bus on State Highway 23 in the town of Davenport. The only occupant of the SUV, was 65-year-old Diane Bevins of Stamford, she was pronounced deceased on the scene. The driver of the bus, 44-year-old Joanna Reedman of Astoria, and a passenger, 59-year-old Aris Vavasis of Hartwick were transported to Bassett Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries, 3 other passengers were not injured, the investigation is on-going.

Village of Sidney announced that there will be Water shut offs this afternoon due an emergency repair from 1:00pm - 3:00pm. Water will be shut off From Pleasant Street to Main Street on Bridge Street, From Clinton Street to Main Street on River Street, & on Main Street from Cartwright Ave to Bridge Street.

IN THE 70 MILE ONE PERSON PRO RACE, BEN SCHLIMMER FROM CAMILLUS, NEW YORK TOOK TOP HONORS FINISHING THE RACE IN 8 HOURS 41 MINUTES AND 12 SECONDS. Oneonta officials announced that Downtown Oneonta trick or treating is taking place from 12:00 noon to 2:30 pm on Saturday & a new "Trunk or Treat" event will be held at the Main Street Baptist Church. On Sunday, the Oneonta Rotary Club is organizing the Halloween parade 4:00 pm, it will line up on Elm Street starting at 3:00 pm.

Bainbridge Chamber of Commerce will hold their Annual Commitment to Community Dinner on Saturday, at Sundown Golf and Country Club. They will be honoring Bob Evans as the Citizen of the Year, B & W Wines & Liquors as the Business of the Year The Bainbridge-Guilford Central School District as the Business of Distinction and The Bainbridge Rotary Club as the Service Organization of the Year.

Area Emergency Services Departments are keeping an eye on potential flooding issues, after several inches of rain fell yesterday. Minor Flooding was reported in Margaretville, while Delaware County officials anticipated possible mild flooding in Hancock. The Oneonta Boys & Girls Club is hosting it’s first-ever "Trunk or Treat" event from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm tonight in the parking lot of the club. The event is free and it replaces the annual Halloween party.

The State Department of Transportation will hold a public meeting on Wednesday, September 22 at 5:30 PM, to present the design plans for improvements to pavement, sidewalks and drainage on State Route 7 in the Village of Otego. The project will enhance bicycle and pedestrian safety and improve resiliency along Main Street from the I-88 ramps to the Otsdawa Creek Bridge. The in-person event will take place at the Otego Fire Department at 5 River Street in Otego. This weekend will be the 6th annual "Par for Paws" golf outing to benefit the Susquehanna Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals at the Otsego Golf Club in Cooperstown, beginning today and extending through Sunday. Items like washer, dryers & other metal items can be dropped off at any time at the Delaware Valley Humane Society on the Back River Road in Sidney, Waste recovery Enterprise will bring the metals to Binghaton for disposal & money raised goes for operating expenses at the Shelter.

The Next Sidney Chamber of Commerce Meeting will be held this morning at 8:00 AM. The meeting will be held at the Sidney Golf & Country Club, members & directors are urged to attend.

State police have identified the deceased in a Hit & Run Motor Vehicle & Pedestrian accident on August 15th, or 16th as 72 year old Alan Weill of Oneonta. State Police continue to ask the public to call them at 561-7400 if they were in the area and may have observed anything. Police announced earlier in the week that that had located the vehicle involved in the hit & run accident, which occurred on State Route 205 near Country Club Road in the town of Oneonta.

Delaware County Sheriff's Office arrested 2 people Tuesday after Deputies responded to a burglary reported in the Town of Hamden. The home owner's Video captured 2 subjects, 1 with a handgun, who forcefully entered the home. Randy Hawkins of Morris was taken into custody by State Police; George Klinger was taken into custody at his Morris residence by members of the Delaware County Sheriff's Office and State Police. Officers executed a search warrant at Hawkins’ and Klinger’s Morris residence and recovered a quantity of firearms, ammunition and other property reported stolen in recent Delaware County burglaries. Hawkins and Klinger were charged with 1st degree burglary and criminal use of a firearm, they were arraigned in the Town of Hamden Court, Hawkins was remanded to the Delaware County Correctional Facility on $75,000 cash bail and Klinger was remanded on $40,000 cash bail. The investigation is on-going and more arrests are anticipated.

The Rotary Club of Sidney and the Cullman Developmental Center will hold an event for children this Sunday, from 1:00 to 3:00 pm, "The Buzz about Honeybees" will be held at Keith Clark Park on River Street in Sidney, Rotary Spokesman Larry Halbert told WCDO News that it is a safe event for the children:
