Otsego County Sheriff's Office reminds those interested in joining the Department, that the deadline is tomorrow to submit an application, mail in applications can be postmarked no later than August 11th. To obtain an application for OR to apply online or view additional vacancies or examinations go to otsegocounty.com, a fee of $25.00 is required for each separately numbered examination for which you apply. The National Weather Service office in Binghamton is currently conducting a storm survey following thunderstorms Monday So Far, investigators determined that an EF3 tornado struck Lewis County in the towns of Lewis and Turin, in Madison County, Munnsville saw an EF1 tornado & in Vernon and Taberg, in Oneida County, an EF1 tornado touched down.
Delhi Telephone, or DTC, continues to expand their Fiber Optic internet & cable services around the county, they have completed the infrastructure in several locations, & they are currently wrapping up work in Walton, Spokesman Jason Miller told WCDO News where they go next:

The State Department of Labor announced that its Division of Worker Protection investigators have recovered and returned over $11.7 million in stolen wages to 12,000 affected workers since January 1, putting the Department on track to recover $20 million in stolen wages this year. Over the past decade, they have recovered and dispersed more than $360 million in stolen wages, identified over a million misclassified workers, and assessed over $400 million owed in unemployment insurance contributions through both criminal cases and civil enforcement.

Sidney Police Department arrested 33 year old Jesse Terry of Unadilla Wednesday, for criminal possession of stolen property, unlawful fleeing a police officer, aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, driving while under the influence of drugs & resisting arrest amon other charges. Sidney Police received an alert about a stolen vehicle out of Oneonta, the vehicle was observed at a car wash, with State Police assisting the traffic stop, Terry did not comply and rammed the Sidney Police car, police pursued along West Main Street, the pursuit ended at the Circle Drive Apartments, where Terry hit 1 of the apartment buildings with the vehicle, he fled into an apartment building and was taken into custody, he was treated at the hospital & was later arraigned in the Village of Sidney Court & was remanded to the Delaware County Jail. More charges are pending.
Delaware County District Attorney's Office announced that 41 year old Darren Moscato of Delhi, was arraigned on a sealed indictment in Delaware County Court Monday. The indictment was unsealed, Count One accused Moscato of attempting to endanger the welfare of a child, the other counts accuse him of Attempted Disseminating of Indecent Material to Minors, Engaging in a sexually explicit conversation with a minor with the intention of enticing the child to engage in sexual activity, and for sending explicit pictures to the minor. Moscato was released to the supervision of the Delaware County Probation Department, pending a conference on July 24th.

Delaware County District Attorney's office announced that 58 year old Mark Seeley of Walton, was sentenced to 2 years in the County Jail for Aggravated Harassment and Criminal Contempt. On September 11, 2022, Seeley, threatened several individuals, the Court issued orders of protection for the victims, Seeley violated the orders of protection multiple times. On May 8th, Seeley agreed to a plea deal in County Court, but on May 31st, State Police were contacted by the victims who had discovered that Seeley posted about the victims on social media. Due to the numerous violations the District Attorney’s Office voided the plea & Seeley was sent to jail.

State Police said that the man may be armed, residents from Route 369 to Richards Road were advised to stay inside, keep their doors and vehicles locked. State Route 79 has been re-opened to traffic. The suspect is described as a white male, with dark hair, approximately 6 foot 1 inches tall and 275 pounds, last seen wearing a black shirt, light-colored pants or shorts and may be wearing glasses. Delaware County Sheriff's Office arrested 51 year old Stacy Coss of Andes for driving while ability is impaired by the use of drugs, and aggravated unlicensed operator. On July 7th, Deputies stopped a motor vehicle in the Town of Andes being operated by Coss, her driving privileges were revoked from a prior DWI and she was operating a motor vehicle in an impaired state. Coss was released on appearance tickets and directed to appear at the Town of Andes court at a later date.

Assemblyman Joseph Angelino will unveil the signage for the newly named 1st Lieutenant Stephen Doane Bridge spanning the West Branch of the Delaware River in Walton, Doane's actions saved the lives of his fellow soldiers at the cost of his own life. Newman was charged with Driving While Intoxicated, Aggravated DWI, Refusal to Take Breath Test, Speed not reasonable and prudent among other charges, on County Highway 3 in Unadilla. Newman will appear in Town of Unadilla Court on May 8th.

Johnnie Hardwick of Binghamton will spend 12 years in jail following a hold up at Weis Markets in Binghamton last October. Hardwick was approached by a store employee & pulled a knife and threatened to stab the employee. Hardwick has previous convictions of Sexual Abuse and Attempted Robbery, he is classified as a persistent violent felony offender under state law.
State Police are warning New Yorkers of a computer scam. Police report that when logging on to a computer, a message is displayed on the screen that states to contact Microsoft due to a virus, the victim then contacts the phone number provided and speaks with a person who identifies themselves as a representative of Microsoft’s Security Office. The victim is then told their bank account information has been compromised. Anyone who receives a message to reach out to "Microsoft" support should not call & should never provide any personal information as it can be used to steal personal information.

The Trial of Nauman Hussain starts today in connection with the fatal crash of Hussain's Prestige Limo that crashed in Schoharie, killing 20 people in October 2018. Hussain is facing 20 counts of manslaughter and criminally negligent homicide, Jury Selection began this afternoon in Schoharie County Court.

The Broome County Special Investigations Unit Task Force raided 41 Doubleday Street on Tuesday. Police seized Opioids, methamphetamine, suboxone strips, 5 long guns and 2 handguns, they arrested 47 year-old James Roberts on drug and weapons charges & 43 year-old Danielle Ashdown on weapons charges. Thursday, officers pulled over a vehicle with stolen plates in Binghamton and seized hydrocodone, ecstasy and a pair of handguns, 1 was reported stolen from Owego, they arrested 44 year-old Rondell Wright, 34 year-old Calvin Chambers, 24 year-old John Carter and 38 year-old Shauna Massey. On Thursday, officers raided 1 Lawton Avenue in Binghamton and seized meth, fentanyl and drug selling materials. Police arrested 39 year-old Robert Titus on drug charges.
On April 22, Broome County Sheriff’s Office patrol responded to motor vehicle accident at State Route 12 and 12A in the Town of Chenango, 50 year old Jennifer Chamberlain of Binghamton was talked out of the vehicle by a deputy as gas was spilling onto the pavement, fire fighters responded to the crash and leak. Chamberlain attempted to make a turn, but veered wide left, crossing lanes of traffic. Her vehicle jumped over a raised curb and continued over a mulch bed striking several signposts and bushes before coming to a stop in the gas station parking lot. The broken signposts had ruptured the vehicle’s gas tank. Chamberlain's BAC was .27%, over 3 times the legal limit, she was charged with Driving While Intoxicated, Aggravated DWI with a BAC of 0.18 or more, Speed Not Reasonable & Prudent, Aggravated Unlicensed Operation among other charges, she was arraigned and released on an appearance ticket for Town of Chenango Court.
Attorney General Letitia James announced that 340 firearms were turned in at a community gun buyback event hosted by her office and the Johnson City Police Department. Attorney General James' office held 9 gun buyback events statewide with more than 3,000 guns turned in, including 185 assault rifles, 1,656 handguns, and 823 long guns. In Johnson City, they received 25 assault rifles, 169 handguns, and 114 long guns.

Delaware County District Attorney's office announced that 47 year old James Amato, also known as Tony Amato of Downsville was arraigned on an Amended Violation of Probation Petition in Delaware County Court. Amato is accused of possessing drugs on February 18th in the Town of Colchester and a hearing was scheduled for April 3rd. Amato was remanded to the Delaware County Correctional Facility without bail, he was serving a sentence of probation supervision for his February 2022 convictions of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, If his probation supervision sentence is revoked, he faces up to 9 years in State Prison.

The Delaware County District Attorney's office announced that 50 year old Kristopher Surdis of Kingston, appeared in Delaware County Court on March 20, 2023 and pleaded guilty to one count of Falsely Reporting an Incident. Surdis was arrested by the Colchester Police Department for allegedly calling the Downsville Country Store and reporting a bomb threat. After being arraigned on a Superior Court Information, he pleaded guilty and was sentenced to time already served in jail and also imposed a 3-year Conditional Discharge, which requires Surdis undergo a mental health evaluation, and comply with any treatment recommendations for the next three years, if he violates the terms, he could be re-sentenced to a term of 7 years in jail.
Otsego County Sheriff's Office announced that 45 year old Kendra Barrett of Burlington Flats, was arrested for DWI, Aggravated DWI, Speed not reasonable and prudent, Driving on the shoulder, Open Container along with several other charges, following a motor vehicle accident in the Town of Pittsfield. Barrett was issued appearance tickets returnable to the Town of Pittsfield Court at a later date.

Delaware County District Attorney's Office announced that 39 year old Leigh Murray of Patterson pleaded guilty to DWI in Delaware County Court. Murray admitted to driving at a high rate of speed on State Route 17 in Hancock after 2 to 3 vodkas in November of last year, she will be sentenced to 6 months in jail and 5 years of post release supervision at sentencing at a later date.
U.S. Senator Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand announced $5,196,000 in federal funding to develop and preserve affordable housing and invest in community development efforts throughout New York. The funding was allocated through NeighborWorks America, locally, Greater Opportunities for Broome and Chenango, will receive $212,000 in funding.
Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a report of harassment occurring in the Village of Margaretville. During the course of the investigation, the complainant advised that 51-year-old Melissa Hull of Margaretville contacted her via telephone and made threats & came to her residence in a confrontational manner and made additional threats. Hull was arrested Friday, & an order of protection was also issued against Hull ordering her to stay away from the complainant. Hull was processed and released on an appearance ticket.
The New York State Department of Labor today released preliminary local area unemployment rates for January 2023. New York State's seasonally adjusted unemployment increased from 4.1% to 4.2% in January 2023. Locally Chenango County had 4.3% unemployment, Delaware County 5.1% and Otsego County also had 5.1% in January.

SUNY Oneonta & the Sidney Central School District have set up a teacher pipeline initiative to bring SUNY Education students into the Sidney School District, which could lead to a teaching position in Sidney for the SUNY graduates, Sidney Superintendent Eben Bullock explains:

Bullock said that the program started last fall and doubled in size from 22 students in the fall to 22 students on campus and 19 working at the Pre-K off campus program at the Cullman Center this spring. A Cortland man charged with DWI after colliding with Broome Sheriff’s Office patrol car in the Town of Lisle Sunday. Additional Sheriff’s deputies responded to the accident, conducted the investigation and interviewed the driver, 26 year4 old Zackary Kohout of Cortland. Kohout was arrested and charged with Driving While Intoxicated, Following Too Closely, Speed Not Reasonable & Prudent, & Consumption of Alcohol in a Motor Vehicle, he was arraigned and released on an appearance ticket for the Town of Lisle Court later this month. The deputy whose patrol car was struck sustained minor injuries and was transported to Wilson Hospital for evaluation. He was subsequently treated and released.

Broome County District Attorney Mike Korchak announced that Michael Seaman of New Berlin pleaded guilty in Broome County Court to felony Attempted Assault. Seaman admitted that on October 18, 2022, in the Town of Fenton he attempted to cause serious injury to an 18-year-old male by stabbing him in the leg with a knife during a road rage altercation. The victim was hospitalized and required surgery. Seaman will serve 4 years in State prison followed by 5 years post release supervision, he also waived his right to appeal. He will be sentenced on May 24th.

Delaware County District Attorney's Office announced the conviction of 43 year old Jonathan Sanchez of Meredith for criminal contempt, harassment. Sanchez was accused of contacting a protected party who had an order of protection filed against him, he is accused of violating that order, he will remain incarcerated at the Delaware County Correctional Facility until an opening at a rehabilitation center becomes available, where he will spend a 3 year term of probation supervision.
Binghamton Police Department responded to the report of shots fired & a vehicle fleeing the scene. The vehicle was eventually stopped, with Skylar Pierre Louis and Juan Genao in the vehicle. Drugs, drug paraphernalia and money were also found in the car. Genao was charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance and Criminal Use of Drug Paraphernalia, Louis was charged with Unlawfully Fleeing a Police Officer in a Motor Vehicle, the investigation is continuing and more charges are expected.
The Delaware County Office for the Aging announced that there annual Big Wheels Golf Tournament will be held on Friday May 12th ant the Delhi College Golf Course. The event is the primary fundraiser for the office for the aging, registration is available by calling 607-832-5750.

Several area Fire Departments responded to a structure fire at 440 St. John Road in Afton early this morning. The fire was mainly confined to the 1st floor, there was smoke & heat damage to parts of the 2nd floor, 1 unconscious occupant was removed & was taken to Wilson Hospital. On Saturday night, Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies conducted a traffic stop in the Town of Colchester, Deputies identified the driver of the vehicle as 44-year-old Tyrece Williams of Syracuse, who's vehicle registration was suspended, due to an Insurance Lapse. Williams was charged with Operating a Motor Vehicle with a Suspended/Revoked Registration, Aggravated Unlicensed Operator, Failing to turn in license plates into DMV, among other charges, Williams was released and is scheduled to appear in the Town of Colchester Court at a later date.
About a dozen people were arrested at a protest at the Johnson City Wegman's Parking lot last night. People were protesting the police brutality cases of Tyre Nichols in Memphis & the Hamail Waddell keeling incident by Binghamton Police January 1st. Otsego County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a property damage accident on Springfield Hill Road in the Town of Middlefield November 18th. 30 year old Katy Cole of Middlefield, is accused of fleeing the scene of the accident on foot, Deputies were able to track Cole down using the police canine, Cole was arrested & was charged with Driving While Intoxicated, Refusal of breath screening test, Leaving the scene of a property damage accident, Failure to keep right & Failure to notify DMV of an address change, she was held at the Otsego County Jail for arraignment.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to a trespass complaint in the Town of Davenport last week. 73 year old George Sydlar is accused of cutting his neighbors barbed wire fence that was dividing their 2 properties. Sydlar was arrested and charged with Criminal Mischief. He was released on an appearance ticket and is scheduled to appear in the Town of Davenport Court at a later date.

The Chenango County Health Department is urging everyone six months and older to receive a flu vaccine as cases of influenza rise across the state. Statistics show that the flu season is ramping up early, with flu hospitalizations higher at this point in the season than they have been in a decade. Flu is also spreading at the same time as other respiratory illnesses, including RSV and COVID-19. The State's unemployment rate decreased from 4.7% in August to 4.3% in September 2022.

State Police are looking for 2 people who scammed a clerk at the Owego Speedway October 5th, by engaging in a series of purchases including lottery tickets and Visa cards, stealing over $3,693 from the store. The incident occurred on October 5, and it is believed the pair conducted a similar scam in Johnson City earlier that evening. They may be operating a white Ford sedan. Anyone with information is asked to call (607) 561-7400.

State Police responded on September 24th to the Oneonta Walmart after a report that a Samsung cell phone and wallet containing cash and cards were stolen. Both items were accidentally left in the women’s restroom, when the owner realized that they left the items behind, they returned to the restroom and could not find them. The cell phone and the wallet were later located inside the Grand Union in the town of Hartwick, the cash was not located. State Police arrested 19 year old Alec Hollenbeck of Lincklaen and 53 year old Duane Hollenbeck of Moravia after an investigation regarding ghost guns and large capacity ammunition feeding devices that are illegal in New York State. Both were charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon, Alec Hollenbeck was arraigned & was released on his own recognizance, & faces court action today, Duane Hollenbeck was arraigned and was released on his own recognizance, he appear in Lincklaen Town Court on September 20th.
State Police arrested 56 year old Francesco Carotenuto of Schenevus for Promoting Sexual Performance by a Child and Possessing Sexual Performance by a Child. An investigation revealed that Carotenuto was in possession of and promoting images consistent with child sexual exploitation via the internet. While at Carotenuto’s residence, Troopers observed seven adult dogs who did not have adequate food, water or shelter. The dogs were turned over to the care of the Otsego County SPCA. He was additionally charged with New York Agriculture and Market Law of Overdriving, Torturing, and Injuring Animals, a misdemeanor. Carotenuto was arraigned at Otsego County Central Arraignment and Processing and remanded to the jail on $20,000 cash bail or $100,000 bond. His next court date is scheduled at the Maryland Town Court on September 13, 2022.
The Broome County District Attorney’s Office announced that 58 year old Loretta Washington of Binghamton was sentenced to 3 1/2 years in prison followed by 2 1/2 years of post-release supervision, after pleading guilty to attempted arson. Washington set fire to a doormat that was outside of an apartment last October in Binghamton, the fire was quickly extinguished and that there were no injuries.

State Police arrested 35 year old Tadd Sherwood of Oneonta for 2nd degree attempted murder after he allegedly fired a shotgun in a residential area Saturday in the town of Unadilla, that could have caused the death of another person. Sherwood was arraigned and was remanded to the Otsego County Jail without bail pending future court action.

Binghamton Police & Broome County District Attorney Mike Korchak are investigating claims of sexual harassment regarding an owner of the Colonial Restaurant on Court street. The Colonial, and 2 other Binghamton restaurants; Dos Rios Cantina & The Stone Fox Bar & Pizza closed down Friday after the accusations hit social media & The investigations began, Protesters marched outside the Colonial Saturday night. Fire Departments from Harpursville, Ouaquaga & Windsor responded Sunday afternoon to a trailer fire at 2636 State Route 79. Firefighters were able to keep the fire from spreading to a nearby house, no injuries were reported and the cause of the fire is under investigation.

The Otsego County Sheriff's Office stated that they were notified this morning by a local school district regarding the social media threat to unnamed schools, regarding possible gun violence at 12:15, but no specific date or school was named. This incident is currently being investigated by not only the Sheriff’s Office but multiple police agencies within and outside of Otsego County. The threat has been received by students at various schools in the area and statewide, the threat appears to be false. Officers communicated with school officials and were present in the areas of all of the schools this morning. Officers will continue to show a police presence & the investigation is ongoing.

Governor Kathy Hochul announced today that the statewide Mask Mandate will be re-instituted; masks will be required in all indoor public places. The Governor stated that an exception to the mask rule will be if a business or venue has a vaccine requirement. The State Health Department reported that the COVID positivity rate is back over 5% state wide, Hospitalization are well over 3000, the number in ICU Beds & on ventilators has increased at a lower rate than earlier in the year, due to a high rate of vaccinations.

Delaware County Sheriff's Office Deputies and Investigators arrested 58-year-old Raymond Albertina of Walton, on 1 count each of 2nd & 3rd degree Grand Larceny. Albertina was accused of stealing property from business associates, on two separate occasions, in the Town of Walton and the Town of Franklin respectively. The total value of the stolen property was determined to be over $53,000.00. Albertina was arraigned in the Town of Walton Court on both charges and released to reappear at a later date.

Sidney Police responded Sunday to a report of a physical altercation involving a weapon in the Fox Street & Circle Drive. Police arrested 35 year old Anthony Albro of Sidney for Menacing & Harrassment, he was arraigned in Village of Sidney Court where & was released to appear in court at a later date.
State Police are investigating a shooting in the town of Conklin, Early Thursday morning. Police responded following the report of a person or persons firing several shots from a dark colored sedan on Barbara Avenue, the shots struck a vehicle and residence, there were no injuries reported. Governor Kathy Hochul today announced a multi-agency plan to address the school bus driver shortage affecting schools across the state. The plan includes short-term steps to remove barriers and recruit traditional and non-traditional Commercial Driver's License holders, expand CDL testing opportunities, and enhance processes all designed to get more drivers into school buses. Additionally, New York State is launching outreach to more than 550,000 CDL license holders in New York State. The longer term steps include changes to address the training and licensing of drivers, as well as broader recruitment into the bus driver profession.

Chenango County Sheriff's Office responded to a fatal 2-car motor vehicle accident on County Road 36 in the Town of Guilford Monday. Investigators reported that 22-year-old Dominique Brissett of Walkill was traveling north bound on County Road 36 and collided with an SUV operated by 23-year-old Rachel Feyh of Sidney. Brissett was pronounced dead on the scene, Feyh was air lifted by Life Net to SUNY Upstate Medical in Syracuse, where she was listed in critical but stable condition. The state has made progress in making high-speed connections available to New Yorkers, ranking 2nd in the U.S. in the percentage of the population with broadband available in their neighborhood, but more than one million, or 13.8%, of households do not have access or a subscription to home broadband services, according to a report released today by State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli. The report finds that predominantly rural areas remain underserved by broadband infrastructure, approximately 1 in 3 New York households with income less than $20,000 lacked access to broadband at home. Governor Kathy Hochul today announced significant progress with the Emergency Rental Assistance Program and the Excluded Workers Program. The amount of pandemic-related emergency rental assistance paid out has nearly doubled in the past 3 weeks, up to $399 million, enabling tenants at risk for eviction to stay in their homes and helping struggling landlords to receive unpaid rent. Starting tomorrow, middle-income renters previously ineligible for assistance can begin applying for funding through the Emergency Rental Assistance Program, also Governor Hochul announced that over $1 billion in Excluded Workers Program funds have been approved for distribution to date. The State Department of Health today announced that New York State's youth smoking rate has reached an all-time low. As of 2020, less than 3% of high school students smoke cigarettes, down from 27.1% in 2000. State Senator Peter Oberacker announced that community libraries throughout the 51st senatorial district have been awarded a total of nearly $300,000 in public library construction grant funds. The grants are from $14 million in capital funds for public library construction and broadband infrastructure projects provided in the current state budget. Locally, the Edmeston Free Library will receive over $92,000 for 3 projects, the Kinney Memorial Library in Hartwick will receive $9,000 for a roofing project, & the Sidney Memorial Public Library will receive over $32,000 to renovate the parking lot.

Otsego County Department of Health reported that over the past 6 days they have seen a significant increase in the number of COVID 19 cases reported. 12 new cases have been reported in the last 2 days, only 8 cases were reported over the 1st 3 weeks in July, since July 23rd, 20 new cases have been reported. The Health Department urges unvaccinated individuals to get vaccinated and continue to wear a mask until they are fully vaccinated, and with the Delta variant, the call for vaccinations is more urgent than ever. State police Responded Monday in Summit to the report of a man crashing an ATV into a tree. 28 year old Kenneth Gabrielsen of Jamesport was taken to Albany Medical Center where he succumbed to his injuries, the crash remains under investigation.

Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 36 year old Donald Zoll of Pittsfield following a Domestic Dispute on July 19th in the Town of Pittsfield. Zoll was charged with Criminal Contempt, Criminal Mischief, and Harassment for allegedly violating 2 active orders of protections & for causing damage to the victim’s vehicle. Zoll was taken into custody and held at the Otsego County Jail pending court action.

A Delaware County Grand Jury has indicted an Otsego County inmate on felony drug and contraband charges following the conclusion of an investigation by The Delaware County Sheriff's Office. Delaware County Sheriff's Investigators arrested 39-year-old Jessica Palmatier of Afton on a Sealed Indictment Warrant issued Thursday; The Grand Jury has accused Palmatier of 2 counts each of criminal possession of a controlled substance and promoting prison contraband. Palmatier is accused of possessing more than 25 grams of Methamphetamine and more than 5 grams of Fentanyl within the Delaware County Correctional Facility on December 2, 2020. Palmatier was arraigned in the Delaware County Court & was remanded to the Delaware County Correctional Facility pending a future court appearance.
Norwich City officials announced that State Highway 12 between Oxford and Norwich is closed due to a NYSEG Natural Gas Leak and power line across the roadway. Officials ask motorists to use County Road 32 as an alternate, as Route 12 is expected to be closed for most of the day.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched Wednesday morning to a tractor trailer rollover on County Highway 16 in the Town of Delhi. Deputies located a pick-up truck and flatbed trailer carrying a farm tractor that had overturned while navigating a sharp curve, the driver 76 year old Donald Hebbard of Franklin, was not injured, diesel fuel was spilled from the farm tractor & the DEC Spill Team responded to the scene for evaluation and clean-up. Hebbard was issued a ticket for speed not reasonable and prudent.

The Cooperstown Central School District learned Monday afternoon that a teacher in the Elementary Building has tested positive for COVID 19. The district developed lists of all students and staff members who were in direct contact with this teacher last Thursday and Friday, and a small number of students will be required to quarantine for 14 days. Due to the number of staff members requiring 14 days of quarantine, the Elementary Building will be turning to emergency remote instruction until November 30th. Delaware County Sheriff Deputies arrested 33 year old Edwin McGraw of Hancock following the report of a possible trespass in progress at a remote camp in the Town of Tompkins Wednesday. Deputies discovered evidence of forced entry to an unoccupied residence and boat house, with the theft of 1 or more firearms. McGraw was charged with 2nd degree burglary, 4th degree Grand larceny & criminal mischief; he was arraigned and was remanded to the Delaware County Correctional Facility in lieu of $5,000 cash bail pending his appearance in the Town of Tompkins Court on a later date.

Otsego County Department of Health reported 5 new cases of COVID 19 were reported Thursday, 3 are related to the SUNY Oneonta outbreak and 2 are county residents. Current COVID numbers: there have been 692 confirmed cases linked to SUNY Oneonta, 16 confirmed cases in Hartwick College students, 26 active cases currently residing in the county. There have been a total of 853 cases, 1 person is hospitalized.
Delaware County is reporting no new positive test result for COVID-19 and no additional recoveries. The known active cases in the County as of today remains 3, all are recovering at home. To date there have been 117 confirmed positive cases of COVID19 in Delaware County, with 55 people now under mandatory quarantine, 6 people have died and 108 have fully recovered.

Governor Cuomo released the latest statewide numbers for COVID 19 on Wednesday. Over 75,000 tests were conducted, 652 positive tests were diagnosed, about .87% of all tested. The State has had over 447,000 cases of COVID 19 since March, there were 483 people hospitalized, 4 people died on Wednesday from the virus, the death toll is 25,413.

Local & State Officials remind area resident that there is still time to respond to the Census. So Far, 93% of New Yorkers have filled out the Census, those who have not, can call 844-330-2020 or online at my2020census.gov. The 2020 Census deadline is September 30th.
19th District Congressman Antonio Delgado announced $475,000 in federal funding from the Office on Violence Against Women for the Transitional Housing Assistance Program at Opportunities for Otsego. The award will provide funding for 42 residences for survivors and their families through private landlord housing units. The grant also allows Opportunities for Otsego to expand their resources to assist victims of domestic violence through rental and utility subsidies, career and financial counseling and other supportive services.

The proposal would provide basic banking services to low-income and rural communities and potentially create approximately $9 billion in revenue for the Postal Service and save it from privatization. Senator Gillibrand said that Postal Banking was a successful service for about 50 years previously, she originally introduced the Postal Banking Act in 2018 & re-introduced it again today.

Chenango County Sheriff's Department arrested 2 Norwich for allegedly stealing 8 Catalytic Converters from cars at a Norwich Dealership. 35 year old Paul Knuth Jr. & 36 year old Samuel Furlong were charged with 3rd degree Grand Larceny, Criminal Mischief & conspiracy, for removing the Converters selling them, causing about $11,000 damage to the vehicles, both were issued appearance tickets for town of Norwich Court at a later date.

Binghamton Police have arrested 28-year-old Macoley Saunders of Binghamton on charges of Attempted murder, criminal use of a firearm, Criminal possession of a firearm, Assault & Resisting arrest, plus charges relating to a domestic dispute in July. Saunders was located riding on the back of a motorcycle on Main Street in Johnson City. He led police on a pursuit on Route 17 going the wrong way in an attempt to evade police, Eventually, Saunders led police on a foot chase. A Binghamton K9 was able to take him down, a struggled ensued, and Saunders was able to fire one shot toward police officers before being disarmed. Saunders is currently being held in the Broome County Jail.

State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli said that state tax receipts are $3.2 billion lower than last year, as he released the State Cash Report for August. DiNapoli noted state tax receipts of $4.3 billion in August were $219.1 million below collections in August 2019, due to the COVID 19 pandemic & subsequent shutdown. Personal income tax collections were 6.4% lower than last year. Sales tax receipts were 20.2% lower than last year & August sales tax receipts were 7.8% below those a year earlier.
Otsego County Department of Health reported 4 new cases of COVID 19 were reported Wednesday, 2 SUNY Oneonta students, 1 Hartwick student and 1 resident. The County's Current COVID numbers: 686 confirmed cases linked to SUNY Oneonta, 16 confirmed cases in Hartwick College students, there are 34 active cases residing in the county, there have been 848 total confirmed cases & there is 1 hospitalization.
Broome County Health Department reports 1315 total cases of COVID 19 Wednesday with 82 deaths, 1185 recoveries, 607 are being monitored by the Department, they have conducted over 46,000 tests.
