A town of Norwich resident was
arrested by the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office for 2nd degree Assault.  20 year old Kyle Nowalk was arrested
following an investigation into an incident in the Chenango County Jail for
allegedly caused physical injury to a victim within the detention
facility.  Nowalk will appear in the Town
of Norwich Court at a later date.
A Town of Norwich resident was
arrested by the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office for Aggravated Unlicensed
Operation of a Motor Vehicle.  46 year
old Leon Lamb was arrested following a traffic stop on County Road 32 in the
Town of Norwich, Lamb was allegedly operating a motor vehicle with a suspended
license, and he was arraigned in the Town of Norwich Court and remanded to the
Chenango County Correctional Facility on $1,000 cash bail. Lamb is to appear in
the Town of Norwich Court at a later date.

30 year old Lance Beckwith of Norwich was arrested by the
Chenango County Sheriff’s Office for Promoting Prison Contraband and Criminal
Possession of a Controlled Substance.
Beckwith allegedly possessed dangerous contraband while incarcerated at
the Chenango County Jail, where he was being held on other charges, he will
appear in the Town of Norwich Court when called upon.
33 year old Kevin Begeal of Oxford has been arrested by
Oneonta City Police on Burglary, Grand Larceny & other Charges.  Begeal is accused of breaking into a Chestnut
Street home and stealing two guitars and a television, and he allegedly tried
to sell them to a Norwich Music Store.
International Women’s Day is today, and the Chenango County
Council of the Arts will be hosting a gallery exhibit At the Mareia Brown &

Chenango County Sheriff’s Office investigated a reported assault with a weapon, they arrested 45 year old Philip Cuda was arrested. Deputies reported that the victim sustained injuries from a knife and was transported to Chenango Memorial Hospital then later transported to Wilson. Cuda was arraigned in the Town of Norwich Court and remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility on $10,000.00 cash bail.

Norwich Police arrested 55-year-old John Stacy of Norwich for Possessing Obscene Sexual Performance by a Child & Failure to register as a Sex Offender. Stacy is accused of possessing pornographic materials containing children under the age of 16 & failing to notify authorities of his social media accounts within the required 10 day period for registered Level 2 sex offenders. Stacy was arraigned in Norwich City Court & was remanded to the Chenango County Jail on $50.000 cash bail pending court action on September 19th.
Chenango County Sheriff's Department arrested 18 year old Samantha Clipston of Norwich for Criminal Sale of a Controlled Substance. Clipston was arraigned in the City of Norwich Court and remanded to the Chenango County Jail on $10,000 cash bail. The arrest is the result of an ongoing investigation into the sale and possession of Heroin in the City of Norwich. Norwich City Police have identified the victim of a shooting as 19-year-old Roxanne Shipman of Norwich on Thursday. Police responded to the report of a shooting Thursday at Division Street shortly after 6:00 PM, Shipman was transported to Chenango Memorial Hospital where she died from her injuries. The Norwich Police Department and the State Police Forensic Investigation Unit are investigating; preliminary reports suggest that the shooting could have been accidental.

Fire fighters from New Berlin, Norwich North Norwich Sherburne, Edmeston Garrettsville & Mount Upton responded to a fire at the Ken Tuttle Jr. farm on Balcom road early Wednesday morning. State Police CNET along with State Troopers & Norwich Police executed a search warrant following an investigation into Heroin sales in the Norwich area. 54 year old Antonio Totten of Norwich was found to be in possession of crack cocaine, $1803. in cash, wax envelopes containing heroin, brass knuckles, marijuana, and 2 cell phones. Totten was charged with 2 counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Criminal Possession of a Weapon & Unlawful Possession of Marijuana. Totten was arraigned & was remanded to the Chenango County Jail on $100,000 cash bail or $250,000 bond.

On Friday night, State Police responded to fatal motor vehicle collision, on State Route 12, in the Town of Norwich. 77 year old Robert Gibbs exited his residence and entered the roadway, into the path of a northbound vehicle, he was pronounced deceased at the scene. The operator of the vehicle was not ticketed. The investigation is continuing.

The Chenango Arts Council announced the acceptance of Request for Proposals from New York State artists for exhibition in the Mariea Brown and Raymond Loft Galleries, located in CAC facilities at 27 West Main Street, Norwich. The proposal deadline is January 6th, 2016, with a jurying process occurring mid-January for exhibition in the following year. There is no fee for submission, and CAC staff is available for technical assistance with the application process. State Police at Norwich arrested 22-year-old Michael Verry of Greene for 3rd degree Assault, after Troopers responded to a Chenango County 911 report of a dispute at a residence on Crestmont Drive in the Village of Greene. Verry is accused of punching a female victim in the face, causing a jaw injury. Verry was arraigned in the Village of Greene Court and remanded to the Chenango County Jail in lieu of a $5,000.00 cash bail. The court issued an order of protection against him.

The South New Berlin Fire Department responded to a house fire on State Highway 23, at around 4:00 this morning. Fire fighters from Morris, New Berlin, Norwich & Mount Upton assisted South New Berlin firefighters at the scene.   Firefighters remained on the scene into the late morning hours, more details are expected to be released after investigators work to determine the cause of the fire.

A Saturday morning convenience clinic is expected to open January 18th at 4 Newton Avenue in Norwich, with hours from 9:00 AM to Noon. The clinic will serve both pediatric and adult patients by appointment. UHS Primary Care practices will also expand office hours in some locations to allow earlier morning and later evening appointments.

The Chenango County Sheriff’s Office completed an investigation in the Town of Oxford where a subject who could not legally possess a shotgun, sold 1 to another subject who could not legally possess a shotgun.  Charged were 34-year-old Nadine Button for making a false written statement, she was released pending a future court appearance in City of Norwich Court.  Also charged, 18 year old Austin Demuth for 4th degree criminal possession of a weapon, he was located in the town of Colesville and arraigned in the Town of Oxford Court & was remanded to the Chenango County Jail on $500 cash bail pending future court action.  32-year-old Eric carpenter was charged with criminal possession of a weapon, He was arraigned in The Town of Norwich Court; He was remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility on $5000 bail and order to reappear in the Town of Oxford Court at later date.

The Chenango County Sheriff’s Office arrested 22-year-old Talon Taltavall of Hamilton, on an active Bench Warrant issued by the Town of Sherburne Court, for a violation of probation or conditional discharge.   Taltavall was arrested in the Town of Norwich; he was arraigned in the Town of Sherburne Court & was remanded to the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office on $1,000.00 cash bail. Taltavall is scheduled to appear back in the Town of Sherburne Court at a later date.
The Norwich Rotary club is seeking additional members at their event this afternoon from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Canasawacta Country Club the event is free to member of Commerce Chenango.
The CHENANGO COUNTY COUNCIL OF THE ARTS is currently looking for area artists who would like to submit their work to Fourth Friday's in downtown Norwich.  Every Fourth Friday of the month local downtown merchants place artwork in their storefront windows as part if the monthly event. The event includes an art walk starting at 5 PM followed by a gallery opening with live music and food at The Artists' Palette in Norwich.  More information is available at 244-1445.
