A benefit will be held at Awestruck Ciders in Sidney Sunday from 12:00 to 5:00 PM, Sejersen will be there explaining their services & accepting donations, a portion of the proceeds from Awestruck will also be donated.

Governor Kathy Hochul announced the launch of the 2026 Regional Economic Development Council Initiative, eligible REDCs will compete for funding through the $150 million ACHIEVE competition to support high-impact regional projects to advance regional goals. Up to $60 million in Regional Council Capital Funds will be made available in the 2026 Consolidated Funding Application in addition to funding from more than 20 programs to facilitate projects that advance each region’s strategic plan and state priorities. more information is available at regionalcouncils.ny.gov.

On Friday, State Police arrested Lieutenant Thomas Fellrath of the Otsego County Sheriff’s Office on multiple charges following an investigation by the State Police & the Otsego County District Attorney’s Office. Fellrath is charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Defrauding the Government, Official Misconduct, Fellrath is accused of possessing 10 grams of cocaine during a traffic stop on the New York State Thruway in Herkimer County, At the time of his arrest, Fellrath was on-duty and driving an unmarked Otsego County Sheriff’s Office vehicle outside of Otsego County.

Governor Hochul's Office announced a 5 year deal has been reached on a contract for the CIVIL SERVICE EMPLOYEE ASSOCIATION, with more than 55,000 New York State Employees. The Contract Includes Yearly Salary Increases, Increases in Location Pay and Changes in Health Benefits, the Contract is Subject to Union Membership Ratification

The Broome County Sheriff’s Office and the Broome County Health Department provided an update on the response to the outbreak of Salmonella that hit the Broome County Correctional Facility earlier this week. Over 300 incarcerated individuals reporting gastrointestinal illness since Monday, 10 were hospitalized, Dozens of medical and healthcare workers responded, hundreds of bottles of water were sent, antibiotics were provided, After it was determined that Salmonella was what affected the inmates, On Thursday, Servpro completed a deep cleaning of all kitchen, programming areas, hallways and common areas within the Correctional Facility. All laundry and linens have been thoroughly cleaned and sanitized. Today, regular schedules resumed, visitation hours return on Monday morning.

The Classical Guitar Society of Upstate New York is holding a benefit concert Sunday for the Unadilla Food Pantry. The concert will begin at 1:00 PM at the 1st Presbyterian Church in Unadilla.

Otsego County Sheriff’s Office arrested 24 year old Alexander Gutierrez of Milford & 28 year old Jordan Gutierrez-Champen for Introducing dangerous contraband in to prison & Conspiracy, following an investigation into suspicious activity in the Otsego County Jail in 2025. Investigators were notified by corrections staff that they had intercepted a letter hidden in a bible which detailed the receipt of contraband by mail to an inmate, they obtained a search warrant for Gutierrez-Champen’s mail, a page had been saturated with a controlled substance later identified as a synthetic cannabis known as “K2.” On Wednesday, deputies located Alexander Gutierrez in the Town of Otego and took him in to custody, he was processed and released. On Thursday deputies responded to the Lakeview Correctional Facility in Chautauqua County and took Jordan Gutierrez-Champen in to custody, he was transported to the Otsego County Sheriff’s Office where he was held for Arraignment.

Angelino said that they have several more days to wrap up this year's session, and he expects numerous bills to hit the floor for votes in that time-frame.

Plans are going forward to unearth a Time Capsule buried in Unadilla in 1976 and have it opened this July 4th, as part of a celebration for the 250th anniversary of America. Gloria Meenan was one of the 10 year old students involved in the 1976 plans for what went into the time capsule, she told WCDO News about the origins of the plan:

Plans call for the Time capsule to be opened on July 4th at 12:00 Noon in from of the Community House, items are being collected to a new time capsule to be buried & unearthed in Unadilla in another 50 years.

Keiko Howard is an artist and painter from Sidney Center who is painting a mural on the Liberty Street Side of 7 Stones in downtown Sidney, She told WCDO News that she was commissioned to paint the mural after completing a small 1 on the side of Sidney Flowers & Gifts:

Howard said that she is going to paint an indoor mural at the Community Cultural Center in Sidney after the completion of the current work, she is also looking to recruit other area artists to try to have painting & murals in village business district in the region.

The 218th Session of the New York State Police Basic School held their graduation today at the Empire State Plaza Convention Center. 175 Troopers graduated, 23 are training in Troop C, 8 are local from the Troop C area. The new Troopers will be starting May 30 and will be with a Field Training Officer for 10 weeks before getting their official permanent station assignment. Governor Hochul announced that the State Budget for 26-27 has passed. The 268 Billion Dollar plan includes a Path to implementing Universal Child Care, Reforms to Lower Auto Insurance Premiums, a $1 Billion Energy Rebate, Reforms to Cut Red Tape To Build More Housing and Infrastructure Faster, and the First-In-Nation Law to Crack Down on 3D Printed Ghost Guns

UHS Chenango Memorial Hospital will open the doors of its new Broad Street Entrance as well as a new Orthopedics Suite today, A grand opening celebration and ribbon cutting, along with tours of the new spaces, will take place from 12:30 to 3 pm. on Thursday, May 28. The event is free and open to the public.

The Broome County Sheriff’s Office and the Broome County Health Department are taking action to treat and prevent the spread of a stomach bug-like illness that health experts believe to be norovirus at the Broome County Correctional Facility. On Monday, several incarcerated individuals reported symptoms of nausea, vomiting, diarrhea and headaches to medical staff at Correctional Facility. Over the next 24 hours, over 140 incarcerated individuals in multiple housing units were seen by medical staff for similar symptoms. The Norovirus is a highly contagious stomach illness effecting 19 to 21 million people in the United States each year and the leading cause of acute gastroenteritis in the country, The Correctional Facility is also taking additional precautions to limit exposure for staff and other incarcerated individuals within the facility, while performing deep and steady cleaning on any exposed surfaces or areas within the facility.

State Attorney General Letitia James and DEC Commissioner Amanda Lefton today awarded more than $1.34 million in grants to support farmers in Delaware and Sullivan Counties. The Agricultural Environmental Innovation Grant Program is funded by the Attorney General's & the DEC's 2023 settlement with FrieslandCampina, for repeated violations of environmental law at its Delhi facility. The grant program will reinvest the settlement funds by providing 25 farms with access to new technologies and practices.

New York State Office for the Aging announced their 100 awardees from across New York State for Older New Yorkers' Day. Local awardees include Brian Danforth of Unadilla, Lois Aylesworth of Columbus, Robert Cuffney of Sherburne, Alice Blackman of Hamden, Lauren Monroe of Bovina Center & Pat and Walter Hogan of Cooperstown.

New York State Lawmakers are working to get the state budget finalized by Thursday, or pass the 15th budget extender. The 268 Billion Dollar Budget plan is now about 7 weeks late.

Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 22 year old Isiah Eckler of Cooperstown, for Endangering the Welfare of a Child, Assault, Criminal Obstruction of Breathing or Blood Circulation & Harassment, following an investigation into an incident in the Village of Cooperstown. State Police and other Law Enforcement agencies will be looking for intoxicated drivers, distracted drivers, and those violating the state's Move Over Laws, Construction will be suspended during the Memorial day Weekend, except in the case of an emergency.

State Police were dispatched to a crash on State Route 41A in the town of Homer. When Troopers arrived, they found a male in an Amazon uniform on the shoulder of the roadway and a white van on its passenger side, off the roadway with live wires on top of the vehicle. 28 year old Abel Negash of Syracuse, had his van exit the roadway, striking a National Grid pole, he sustained a laceration to his hand and was treated by EMT's at the scene. Negash failed a Field Sobriety Test, he was charged with Driving While Intoxicated, his B.A.C was .13%. He was issued appearance tickets to the Homer Town Court on June 16, 2026, and turned over to a sober third party.

New York drivers with peeling, delaminating, or severely damaged license plates can get free replacements from the DMV, provided they accept a new plate number. If drivers prefer to keep their existing plate number, they must pay a $$20 fee. U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand announced $185 million dollars in EPA funding to protect New York from exposure to lead in drinking water. This funding will go directly to New York State through the Drinking Water State Revolving Fund, that provides low-cost financial assistance to help communities upgrade public water infrastructure, offering subsidized loans and grants to replace aging pipes, treat contaminants, and improve public health.

47 year old Thomas Grimsley of Oneonta man faces 20 years to life in prison after pleading guilty to predatory sexual assault for assaulting 2 children in Rensselaer County. Grimsley admitted to sexually abusing two children under the age of 11, after the children reported the abuse to State Police, he faces sentencing on July 20.

Delaware County Sheriff's Office arrested 41 year old Alex Scrivani of Claryville for Burglary & Criminal Mischief in Andes on May 11th. Deputies observed Scrivani walking along the highway, they attempted to interview him & he was uncooperative. Deputies later observed Scrivani exiting a residence and driveway, he was detained and it was determined that Scrivani was not supposed to be in the buildings or on the property. The homeowner was contacted and responded to the scene. Scrivani had forced his way into the building & his belongings were located inside, Scrivani was arrested, he was processed and arraigned and was being held on bail at the Delaware County Jail pending future court action.

Chenango County Sheriff's Office responded Monday to State Highway 12 in the Town of Norwich for a reported motor vehicle versus bicycle crash. The preliminary investigation determined that a 69-year-old male from Oxford, NY was operating an E-bike on the southbound shoulder of the roadway when he entered the southbound lane and was struck by a vehicle operated by a 16-year-old male traveling southbound. The operator of the E-bike was airlifted to Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse, where he remains in critical condition. The investigation is ongoing.

State Police arrested 44 year old Jason Marsh of Chenango Forks following a rape investigation. Marsh was charged with 1st degree rape, Criminal Obstruction of Breathing & Unlawful Imprisonment, the investigation determined that while at a residence in the town of Greene, Marsh forcibly sexually assaulted, struck and choked the victim, who did escape & contacted police and was evaluated at a local hospital. Marsh was arrested at his residence and later transported to the Chenango County Jail for Centralized Arraignment where he was remanded to the jail pending his next court date on June 4th.

State Police arrested 37 year old Adam Rowe of Truxton after an investigation of the manufacturing and selling of ghost guns. State Police CSU and Violent Gang and Narcotics Enforcement Team arrested Rowe Sunday, after a search warrant was executed at his residence. Police seized an AR-style ghost gun with a loaded 10-round magazine, plus a host of other weapons, plus Three 3D printers, 3 raccoons & 1 opossum. Rowe was charged with numerous counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition Feeding Device, and 2 counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child, additional charges are pending through the DEC regarding the wildlife. Rowe possessed many firearms and utilized 3D printers to manufacture firearms & components, As a convicted felon on probation, he is prohibited from possessing firearms. 22 year old Angela Dennis of Truxton was charged with 2 counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child. Rowe was processed was being held for Arraignment, Dennis was issued appearance tickets and was released.

The New York State Public Service Commission set temporary rate increases for NYSEG that are less than what the company requested. The temporary rates have no bearing on the Commission’s final determinations, the Commission has 11 months to make a determination on a utility rate filing. The temporary rates set by the Commission start June 1st, the increase for NYSEG customers will be 3.7% percent for electric, 0.5% for gas.

State Police responded Saturday Night to a 1 vehicle crash on County Highway 1 and Little Dingle Hill Road in the town of Andes. An investigation at the scene determined that 27 year old Ethan Ray Kennedy of Delhi lost control of his vehicle & went off the roadway and struck an embankment causing the vehicle to roll and land on its roof. Kennedy did not survive.

New Yorkers will vote on School Budgets in New York State Tuesday, as well as Board of Education seats, school bus purchases or other ancillary costs associated with education. Sidney Superintendent Eben Bullock told WCDO News about their 35.5 Million Dollar Budget with 0% tax levy increase:

State Police arrested 40 year old Michael Sodomora of Richmondville for Reckless Endangerment, following a crash on May 12th. Troopers responded to Lowe’s on State Highway 23 in Oneonta for a report of a vehicle that struck the building. An investigation determined that Sodomora traveled through the Lowe’s parking lot at high rate of speed before striking the entrance of the building, traveling several feet inside and damaging a cash register counter and multiple shelves of merchandise. Sodomora and a 63-year-old female passenger from Pennsylvania were not injured, Sodomora was processed & turned over to the Otsego County Jail for arraignment.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies were notified of a scam where callers are contacting residents and reporting that they are from the New York State Electric & Gas, The scammers state that there is an overdue bill and that if the bill is not immediately paid, the resident's electricity will be shut off. The Sheriff;s Office reported that people should never give personal financial information to cold callers, they should hang up, and contact local law enforcement if they feel that they were scammed.

Chenango County Planning Department announced that they are seeking more public comments on the Hazard Mitigation Plan, Shane Butler of the Planning Department Shane Butler told WCDO News about the process:

The Oneonta Town Board has approved a 1 year moratorium to stop new data centers or cryptocurrency mining. The moratorium affects plans by Eco-Yotta from building a data center on County Road 9 in the Town of Oneonta, the plan requires State Approval to be implemented.

Regatta Row will be set up for another week in the Bainbridge Business District, the canoe paddle Adirondack chairs will be brought to the General Clinton Canoe Regatta grounds next Friday & they will be auctioned off at 4:00 PM Saturday May 23rd in the Chamber of Commerce tent at General Clinton park during the canoe regatta. Otsego County Sheriff's Office responded to a dump truck rollover accident with entrapment Tuesday Morning at the intersection of County Route 11 and Burke Hill Road in the Town of Hartwick. One occupant was extricated and transported to Bassett Medical Center for further evaluation. The driver was extricated using hydraulic rescue tools and was airlifted by LifeNet to Albany Medical Center for treatment.

State Attorney General Letitia James has released footage from the Vestal Police body-worn cameras that her office obtained as part of its ongoing investigation into the death of Eslam Hegazy, who died on February 25th following an encounter with Vestal Police Department. The video shows Police instructing Hegazy to drop his knife repeatedly, a Taser was deployed at Hegazy, who still failed to comply, 2 officers shot at him, Hegazy was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. 41 year old Trevor Metterhauser of Pennsylvania was sentenced in a New York Federal Court room to 80 years in prison plus multiple fines for attempted aggravated sexual abuse, aggravated sexual abuse, sexual exploitation of children, and multiple counts of possession of child pornography, involving 2 toddlers, 1 in the Southern Tier & the other in Texas. As part of his guilty plea, Metterhauser admitted he conspired with Brandon Whitford to sexually exploit an a 4-year-old girl in New York & record the abuse, Metterhauser also traveled to Texas where he conspired with Carlos Ruiz to sexually assault a 2-year-old child and to record that abuse. Co-Conspirators Whitford and Ruiz have each pleaded guilty in connection with this case.

State Police announced that 18 year old Dalton Malmstrom of Nichols, who was reported missing Saturday, was found deceased in the Susquehanna River by the State Police Under Water Recovery Team and members of the K9 unit. Troopers were assisted by members of the Nichols Fire Department. Malmstrom was last seen leaving his residence in Nichols, at approximately 7:45 am. on Saturday.

On Sunday morning at 9:14pm the City of Norwich Fire Department was dispatched for the report of a structure fire located at 6 & 6A Griffin Street in the City of Norwich. Firefighters found a working fire, crews entered the apartment building and found fire and smoke conditions within both apartments, they searched for occupants on all floors, they were able to bring the fire under control within an hour of arrival. Norwich Fire Department was assisted by the Sherburne, Oxford, North Norwich & Plymouth Fire Departments, the cause of the fire was determined to be accidental and involved improperly discarded ashes from a prior campfire with the remaining ashes placed in a garbage bag on the rear porch of the home. There were no reported injuries to firefighters. 2 occupants of the home were evaluated at the scene by EMS & were released.

New York Attorney General Letitia James called for the passage of the One Fair Price law, which would ban surveillance pricing in New York state. Surveillance pricing is when companies use algorithms to analyze consumers spending habits, and then determine the highest price they will pay for a product. James said that 2 neighbors could buy the same product at the same time but pay different prices, The package includes 2 bills, one for online shopping and one for traditional retail stores. The bills also ban the use of electronic shelf labels in grocery stores and pharmacies.

State Police announced a 35% increase in vehicle and traffic tickets issued during this year’s Operation Hard Hat initiative, from April 20 through April 24th. State Police conducted 12 enforcement details across the state. Troopers were deployed within active work zones, 967 tickets were issued, 401 for speeding, 138 for distracted driving, 160 for violations of New York’s Move Over Law. In Troop c there were 65 tickets issued, 34 of those were for speeding,

A heavy presence of emergency responders and volunteers from both New York and Pennsylvania are searching for 18-year-old Dalton Malmstrom, who was last seen leaving his residence near the Susquehanna River in the town of Nichols, at 7:45 am. Saturday, Family members told Police that he was not acting like himself prior to leaving. Dalton is described as a 5-foot-10 white male with dark hair and was last seen wearing a dark-colored shirt. Delaware County has been contracting with Delaware Opportunities, to provide nutrition services to Delaware County residents 60 years or older and their spouses. Thursday Night, Delaware Opportunities ceased all operations of senior meals effective immediately. The Delaware County Office for the Aging took over today. Delaware County officials will move forward with the plan to take senior meals service in house rather than waiting until 2027. Delaware County Office for the Aging will be operating these services, and no seniors will be left without meals or services they receive.

State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli reported today that despite median household incomes increasing in every New York County from 2019-2024, they did not keep pace with the cost of living when adjusting for the 23.1% inflation during that time period. The analysis shows that the inflation adjusted median household income increased by $1,688, or 2%, from 2019 to 2024, in 23 of the state’s 62 counties, real median household income decreased. Locally, 3 of the 10 largest percentage decreases in real household incomes were found in the Southern Tier Counties.

The Binghamton Police Department & the Broome County District Attorney’s Office announced that after the death of 45 year old Peter Bennedum Friday at an area Hospital, the investigation is now being handled as a homicide. The 4 juveniles were previously charged with Attempted Murder in the 2nd degree, the charges have been amended to 2nd degree Murder, they are housed at a juvenile detention facility and are scheduled to appear in Broome County Court at a later date to be arraigned on the new charge. Additionally, the 13-year-old suspect was located and arrested at an address in Whitney Point, and has also been charged with 2nd degree Murder and was also sent to a juvenile detention facility in Syracuse, New York. Norwich City Police arrested 21 year old Brayden Pollock of Plymouth along with a Juvenile, in connection to the damage at Angelino Fields on Borden Avenue on May 2nd. Norwich Police determine that both individuals came in separate vehicles & damaged property, amounting to about $2,500 in damages. Both were charged with Criminal Mischief, Pollock was issued an appearance ticket for Norwich City Court, the juvenile was ordered to return to Youth Court at a later date.

State Police arrested 19 year old Derick Danielsen of Laurens after a couple driving in Laurens saw Danielsen follow them in his vehicle into the town of Oneonta, they reported that Danielson was pointing a handgun at their vehicle. The couple drove to the State Police Barracks in Oneonta to report the incident. Troopers located Danielson and his vehicle in Laurens, Troopers seized cocaine, ecstasy, oxycodone pills, Xanax, fentanyl, 150 THC vape cartridges, cash & a number of loaded weapons, he was charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Criminal Possession of a Weapon, and Menacing, he was processed & then transported to the Otsego County Jail for Arraignment.

State Police responded Tuesday Night to a crash involving an SUV and a motorcycle at State Highway 28 and County Highway 48 in the town of Oneonta. An investigation determined that 76 year old Patricia Howard of Sidney, was operating an SUV on County Highway 48 and began making a left turn onto State Highway 28 when she failed to observe a Motorcycle driven by 57 year old Gabriel Mizrahi of Syosset, he was transported to A.O Fox Hospital & was airlifted to a trauma center but succumbed to his injuries. The investigation is on-going.

State Police Superintendent Steven James announced the Annual Trooper Awards, for bravery & service to New Yorkers. The Brummer Award, which is the Highest Award for Heroism, went to Trooper Thomas Stiehler of Troop G, who on July 4th 2025, responded to a shooting involving a teenage male and a structure fire one block from the Plaza, he entered the burning building to ensure all occupants had evacuated. He then entered the adjoining smoke filled residence, and removed a disabled woman, carrying her down several flights of stairs to safety. Locally, Trooper Timothy Murray at Troop C, who also volunteers as a firefighter and EMT with the Delhi Fire Department, responded to a fatal motor vehicle accident and provided life-saving care to a severely injured fellow trooper. State Police participated in the 1st National Top Trooper Competition in Texas, Sergeant Nicholas Trentanelli and Trooper Lindsey Rumenapp of Troop C, were both selected to participate following a statewide tryout process.

The Broome County Department of Public Works announced that a culvert replacement will be taking place along Old Route 17 in the Town of Sanford starting next week, the road will be closed from May 11th through August 14th, motorists will need to seek alternative routes, Detour routes will be posted for motorists to follow.

The Intensive Crisis Stabilization Center is now open and it will be one of only 12 such centers in New York State, they provide on-site care for people experiencing mental health or substance use crises, offering stabilization services for up to 24 hours. The center is for residents in the Mohawk Valley area counties, including Otsego County.

A new poll from Sienna Research Institute shows that Governor Hochul's lead over Nassau County Republican Bruce Blakeman increased by another 3%, in the race for New York Governor. Hochul had 49% of prospective voters, while Blakeman had 33%.

A collaborative operation between The US Attorney's Office, the Broome County District Attorney's Office, the FBI & the Broome County Sheriff's Office led to the seizure of hundreds of pounds of illicit drugs and 20 firearms over the past year in Broome County. Operation Clean Sweep led to the seizure of 475 grams of fentanyl, 63 pounds of methamphetamine, 2.3 kilograms of liquid methadone, 350 grams of crack cocaine, 1.6 kilograms of cocaine, 2.6 pounds of psychedelic mushrooms, and 400 pounds of marijuana and THC products. It also led to the seizure of 20 firearms that were illegally possessed.

Flights will be returning to the Greater Binghamton Airport from Delta Airlines starting Thursday. Delta Air Lines will first have flights between Binghamton and Detroit, officials are working to return more flights to the airport, more information will be available at the Delta Airlines website.

Sentencing is scheduled for July 30th, he faces up to 12 years in State Prison.

Binghamton Police arrested 4 juveniles in connection with the attack on a homeless man last Monday. The Juveniles were ages 14 & 15 years old and they were charged with Attempted Murder and were being held in a Syracuse detention center, a 13 year is also expected to be charged in connection with the case, Binghamton Police are investigating the case as "social media trend" where groups target homeless or drug-addicted individuals for violent assaults. 45 year old Peter Bennedum died from his injuries at an area hospital Friday, a go fund me page has been set up for his family members, a vigil will be held Tuesday, at 3:00 pm at the intersection of Carroll and Henry Streets in Binghamton, where police found Bennedum beaten & unconscious on the sidewalk last Monday night. The Broome County DA's Office reported that additional charges will be filed against the juveniles following Bennedum's death.

74 year old Miles Marshall faces up 4 to 12 years in prison for stealing more than $50 million from hundreds of people in upstate New York as part of a massive Ponzi scheme. Marshall pleaded guilty last week, to grand larceny, securities fraud and scheme to defraud, Marshall prepared taxes and sold insurance in Hamilton, he is scheduled to be sentenced in Madison County Court on June 11.

Broome Sheriff’s Office arrested 34 year old Sayquan McKenzie of Camden New Jersey last week after deputies observed his vehicle making an illegal turn, his Georgia license plate was not registered, a traffic stop was initiated, leading to a pursuit, which ended after Deputies deployed stop sticks, the vehicle was disabled & McKenzie fled on foot but was apprehended after falling, he was taken to Wilson Hospital for medical treatment, and was then charged with Criminal Possession of Stolen Property, Unlawful Fleeing a Police Officer in a Motor Vehicle, Obstructing Governmental Administration, False Personation, and a host of other charges, After answering to his charges in Broome County, McKenzie will be extradited due to warrants in other jurisdictions for assaulting a New York City Police Officer, and for a New Jersey robbery.

The Chenango County Sheriff's Office arrested 38 year-old Zachary Lindow of Greene following an investigation into 2 separate incidents. Deputies responded Sunday to a reported domestic dispute in Greene, where Lindow allegedly subjected the victim to unwanted sexual contact and threats, he fled before deputies arrived, An arrest warrant was issued. On Monday deputies responded to a harassment complaint in Greene, also involving Lindow, he was located by the Broome County Sheriff's Office and he was turned over to the Chenango County Sheriff's Office and was charged with 2 counts of Aggravated Harassment, plus Sexual Abuse, 2 counts of Intimidating a Victim or Witness, he was was arraigned and released on his own recognizance. He will appear in court at a later date.

State Police announced that the missing person investigation involving 47 year old Lance Bogart of the Town of Tioga has concluded, as he was located deceased today in a creek near his residence. Local government sales tax collections totaled $6.1 billion in the first quarter of 2026, an increase of 5.1%, compared to the same quarter last year, according to the State Comptroller's Office. 9 of the 10 regions in the state, had a year-over-year increase in collections, first quarter collections for counties and cities outside of New York City grew by 3.9%, the full report can be found at osc.ny.gov.

32 year old Michael Fegley of Florida was sentenced in US District Court to 108 months’ imprisonment and 15 years’ supervised release for transporting child pornography and traveling with intent to engage in unlawful sexual activity with what he thought was a 13-year-old child. Fegley admitted that he traveled from Florida to upstate New York intending to engage in unlawful sexual conduct with a purported 13-year-old child. He also admitted that he brought with him about 1,000 images and videos depicting child pornography that he had obtained on the internet. Fegley was also ordered to pay $25,000 in restitution and various special assessments, and he will be required to register as a sex offender upon his release from prison.

Governor Kathy Hochul today announced the launch of a new, decade-long survey effort designed to assess gambling behaviors of New Yorkers and evaluate where additional problem gambling-related services and supports may be needed. 41 year old Frank Giacalone of Walton, pleaded guilty to Felony Driving While Intoxicated in Delaware County Court, The plea was entered as part of a negotiated disposition where it is anticipated that Giacalone will be sentenced to 1 to 3 years in state prison. State Police responded to the report of a vehicle hit a fire hydrant on Mead Street in the Village of Walton, then backed up and drove away. A Trooper observed a piece of the vehicle’s front bumper near the fire hydrant, found the vehicle matching the description, missing a portion of its front bumper, Giacalone failed field sobriety tests & was arrested, he'll be sentenced at a later date.

State Police arrested 46 year old James Lewis of Binghamton after a dispute that resulted in another man sustaining serious injuries. Lewis has been charged with 1st Degree Robbery & Assault, On Friday afternoon, Troopers were dispatched to Endicott for a report of a male who had been struck multiple times by a baseball bat following a dispute. The 48 year old unidentified victim was taken to Wilson Medical Center, where he underwent surgery & was listed in stable condition. An investigation determined that Lewis and the victim had previously traded e-bikes, with the victim expected to pay Lewis, when he failed to provide payment, Lewis struck him multiple times with a baseball bat then left the area with the e-bike. Troopers located Lewis Saturday, was taken into custody without incident, and the e-bike was recovered. Lewis was processed & was turned over to the Broome County Jail for Arraignment.

The Deposit Village Board has decided to discontinue their contract with the Broome County Sheriff's Office to have a dedicate law enforcement presence in Deposit. The move comes about 6 years after the dissolution of the Deposit Police Department. Broome County Sheriff Fred Akshar released a statement saying the\at the decision will make emergency response times in the Village unpredictable, they will respond to emergencies along with the New York State Police going forward.

Broome County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle parked at a residence in the Town of Sanford Tuesday. Deputies located the suspicious vehicle and performed a traffic stop. The driver, 29 year old Philip Briggs of Deposit told deputies that he had picked up the passenger, 37 year old Emily Cecere of Binghamton, who claimed to have been staying at the residence, The owner confirmed that no one was authorized to stay there. Briggs was found to have a burglary tool in his possession and Cecere was found to be in possession of a credit card belonging to a deceased individual who lived at the residence. Briggs was charged with Burglary, Possession of Burglar Tools and Conspiracy, Cecere was charged with Burglary and Conspiracy, they will face court action shortly.

During Earth Week, The State DEC announced a total of 23 municipalities certified under New York State’s Climate Smart Communities Certification program. The certifications recognize that these communities have taken actions to reduce flood risk, address extreme heat, invest in clean energy, improve infrastructure, reduce air pollution, and increase resilience across the state. Governor Hochuls's Office announced that $237.7 Million Dollars was returned to New Yorkers in 2025. The Department of Financial Services Returned $134 million to Consumers and Health Care Providers, the Public Service Commission Helped Over 75,000 New Yorkers with Complaints in 2025, Collecting Nearly $66 Million for Consumers, the Department of Labor Recovered More Than $35 Million in Wage Theft and Collected $2.2 Million in Penalties. Also, the Division of Consumer Protection Helped Over 27,000 New Yorkers, collecting Nearly $2.7 Million for Consumers, New Yorkers Can File a Complaint at dfs.ny.gov/complaint.

The Delaware County Sheriff Craig DuMond reported to the Board of Supervisors meeting this week, that the road patrol division responded to 18,518 total calls for service in 2025, arrests were up 6.2% last year from 2024, traffic tickets increased by 5.4% and motor vehicle accidents saw an increase of 37.66%. The office's Criminal Investigations Division investigated 740 cases last year, including 69 where warrants were requested, making 64 arrests. The corrections division saw a 28% reduction in the number of inmates processed into the jail in 2025.

State Police arrested 23 year old Bradley Scymanski of Newark Valley after a road rage incident that resulted in shots fired. Scymanski was charged with Attempted Assault, Criminal Possession of a Weapon, Criminal Use of a Firearm & Reckless Endangerment, An investigation determined that on Wednesday afternoon, a road rage incident between 2 vehicles occurred on East Main Street in the town of Union, when Scymanski allegedly discharged a firearm at the other vehicle, No injuries were reported. Scymanski was located and taken into custody without incident, he was processed & then turned over to the Broome County Jail for Centralized Arraignment, where he was remanded without bail.

Broome County officials announced today that they have received $854,370.00 in New York State funding through the STRIVE II program to cut down on domestic violence. This funding will support a coordinated countywide effort to improve outcomes for victims of domestic violence and strengthen public safety.

79 year old Stanley Suchy of Stamford, was sentenced to 10 years of incarceration and 20 years of post-release supervision in Delaware County Court Tuesday. Suchy had pleaded guilty to Course of Sexual Conduct Against a Child, He was remanded to the Delaware County Correctional Facility to begin his sentence.

New York Attorney General Letitia James is suing Coinbase and Gemini, 2 of the newest players in the prediction market industry, arguing that the companies' unregulated and unlicensed platforms are illegal gambling operations. By operating without licenses, the lawsuit says, Coinbase's and Gemini's prediction market businesses aren't paying the same taxes as licensed casinos and mobile sports-books, which are taxed by the state at a rate of approximately 51% of gross revenues. The lawsuit also claims that Coinbase and Gemini allow users as young as 18, the state law prohibits wagering by anyone under 21. The lawsuit seeks to bar the companies' platforms from operating in the state unless and until they obtain licenses from the state Gaming Commission.

State Troopers initiated a traffic stop Sunday on a vehicle for moving unsafely from its lane. Troopers observed a pill container in the vehicle driven by 43 year old Adam Morley of Deposit, the contents was later identified as oxycodone. Troopers also discovered methamphetamine and a pump action shotgun that had been reported stolen in South Carolina. Morley was charged with Criminal Possession of Stolen Property, 2 counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, and the passenger, 27 year old Taylor Fineout of Hancock, was found in possession of a 30-round illegal high-capacity ammunition magazine, as well as methamphetamine, he was charged with Unlawful Possession of an Ammunition Feeding Device, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Both individuals were processed and were released on appearance tickets for Deposit Town Court on May 4.

Otsego County Sheriff's Office announced the successful use of Thermal Imaging Drone Aids in Locating Missing Person Sunday night. Deputies responded to a call of a missing vulnerable adult in the Town of Edmeston, Deputies quickly initiated a coordinated search & they deployed a Sheriff’s Office Unmanned Aerial System equipped with thermal imaging technology, Using the drone’s advanced capabilities, deputies successfully located the individual in a field. The K-9 team and responding deputies found the missing person, who was suffering from hypothermia and complaining of hip pain. The victim was taken to Bassett Medical Center for further evaluation.

Norwich Police executed a search warrant Friday on East Main Street & Arrested 52 year old Delf King, following a Chenango County Court indictment. King was charged with 3 counts of Burglary, Attempted Robbery, and 2nd & 3rd degree Assault. King was arraigned on the charges & was remanded to the Chenango County Jail on $40,000 bail, pending future court action.

The online auction for the Grand Union Plaza at 54 East Main Street in Norwich, began Monday, with a starting bid of $500,000. Norwich Mayor Robert Jeffrey told WCDO News that they are talking to grocery industry people & federal & state lawmakers to try to get interest in the site:

The grocery store at that location closed with little advance warning recently, leaving downtown Norwich without easy access to groceries, and adding to the unemployment rate in the region when all of the workers were let go.

This Week is National Work Zone Awareness Week, a campaign today through Friday that promotes work zone safety statewide, urging drivers to slow down, stay alert and follow New York State’s Move Over Law to protect highway and roadside workers. After three straight years of decline, work zone crashes have increased, In 2025, there were 366 work zone crashes on NYSDOT-owned roads that resulted in 58 injuries and two fatalities. Beginning this week & running throughout the summer, State Police and local law enforcement agencies will conduct “Operation Hardhat” details in active work zones statewide. 51 year old Jason Gonzales of Laurens pleaded guilty to Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance and Attempted Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, he was sentenced to 5 years in state prison on each charge, to be followed by 2 years of post-release supervision. On December 6, State Police conducted a traffic stop in Sidney when a vehicle failed to stop at a stop sign, the Trooper observed several hypodermic needles and scales, Gonzales was a passenger in the vehicle, he threw a plastic bag containing fentanyl out of the vehicle. Gonzalez was arrested, processed & released. 5 days later, another State Trooper conducted a traffic stop on River Road in Sidney, Gonzales was once again a passenger with drug paraphernalia in the vehicle, Gonzales was taken into custody, he was searched, and fentanyl was found, he appeared in Delaware County Court & pleaded guilty, the sentences will run concurrently, he was remanded to the Delaware County Jail to begin his sentence.

39 year old Taylor Church of Bainbridge, admitted to violating the terms and conditions of her probation sentence, and was expelled from the Delaware County Adult Treatment Court Program. Church was re-sentenced in Delaware County Court to 2.5 years in state prison to be followed by 1 year of post release supervision. Church pleaded guilty last October to Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, State Police arrested Church in January of 2025, a search uncovered heroin, cocaine a scale & ammunition.
