Governor Kathy Hochul signed legislation to enable providers who prescribe medications used to perform abortions to request that the dispensing pharmacy print the name of their practice on prescription labels instead of their personal name, she commented today in Albany:

The law follows a grand jury indictment in Louisiana against New York Doctor Margaret Carpenter for allegedly prescribing abortion pills online to a pregnant minor.

The US Northern District Court of New York's Asset Recovery Unit collected $39,262,324 in civil, criminal and forfeiture actions in Fiscal Year 2024. $14,085,025 was collected in criminal actions, $15,874,944 was collected in civil actions, and $9,302,354 was collected in asset forfeiture actions. The Northern District of New York also worked with other U.S. Attorney’s Offices and the Department of Justice to collect an additional $18,995,733 in cases pursued jointly by these offices.
32 year old Nishan Iglesias of Endicott is facing multiple felonies after fentanyl and a ghost gun were recovered during an investigation by the Broome County Special Investigations Unit Task Force last Thursday. Officers seized Fentanyl, A Digital Scale, A loaded Ghost Gun & $296.00 in US Currency, he was charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Criminal Possession of a Firearm & Criminally Using Drug Paraphernalia among other charges.
WCDO Sports Director Nate Lull traveled to Binghamton on Saturday to cover the Division-1 Binghamton University Women's Basketball team hosting U-Albany. Hancock alumna Laycee Drake plays for Albany and always has great support from local fans when her team plays close to home. Delaware County Sheriff’s Office arrested 59 year old Karen Bryant of Greene & 71 year old Nancy Nowalk of Greene in connection with the misconduct investigation by the Greene Central School District. The woman were arrested Saturday after Greene Schoo Officlas reported that a 9-year-old female student had been “physically attacked” on a school bus by a school employee while in the Town of Masonville on Wednesday, January 8th. Video evidence revealed that Bryant struck the student “multiple times”, while Nowalk, failed to report it to the district. Bryant and Nowalk have been charged with Endangering the Welfare of a Child. Bryant was also charged with Harassment, they were released on appearance tickets for the Town of Masonville Court at a later date.
Chenango County Sheriff’s Office arrested 23 year old Brandon King of Norwich for Burglary, Rape, 2 counts of Menacing and Criminal Obstruction of Breathing. Deputies responded to a Trespass in progress complaint, they located the female victim inside the residence, they determined that King unlawfully entered the victim’s residence, pointed a firearm at her, then displayed a knife and held it to the victim’s throat before forcing the victim to engage in sexual intercourse, a phone call was received from family members and the victim explained the situation, they contacted Police and King fled the scene on foot, he was later located in Utica and taken into custody. King was processed & was remanded without bail to the Chenango County Correctional Facility and is to appear in the Town of Norwich Court at a later date.
Chenango County Sheriff's Office arrested 42 year old Natasha Meeks of the Town of Otselic for Criminal Possession of Stolen Property, Tampering with Physical Evidence, and Criminal Mischief. Last April the Sheriff’s Office received a complaint from a victim that items were stolen from a property in the Town of Plymouth, at the end of the investigation, the case was presented to a Chenango County grand jury, and Following the indictment, an arrest warrant was issued. Meeks turned herself into the Detectives at the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office earlier this month, she was processed, arraigned in the Chenango County Court, and was Released in her own recognizance, she is scheduled to appear in the Chenango County Court at a later date.

Deputies located a quantity of Fentanyl, Methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia and a loaded handgun within the vehicle and on the occupants. Deputies arrested 29 year old Kenneth Dillmann of Stamford on various drug & weapons charges, plus Aggravated Unlicensed Operator, Also arrested was 23 year old Deanna Eignor of Delhi for various drug & weapons charges, Additionally, a third unidentified individual was arrested and charged with driving while ability is impaired by the use of drugs by the Delhi Police Department. All 3 were transported to the Delaware County Sheriffs Office to await the Centralized Processing Arraignment Court.
Chenango County Sheriff’s Office arrested 41 year old Shawn Taylor of Utica on a variety of drug charges following a a month-long investigation into drug sales, Taylor is accused of traveling to Chenango County from Utica and selling Crack Cocaine. On January 17th, 2025 a search warrant was executed in the City of Norwich on Taylor and his vehicle, a quantity of packaged Crack Cocaine was located. Taylor was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Chenango County Sheriff's Office for processing. Taylor is currently being held without bail at the Chenango County Correctional Facility.

Norwich Police Department, and New York State Parole concluded an investigation into a Level III Sex Offender who was using social media without registering his account, as well as violating his parole conditions. Additionally, the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office has separate charges as well. 44 year old Joshua Clifton of Norwich was charged with, Failure to Register & on a State Parole Violation Warrant, for allegedly using an unregistered Instagram account where he had access to juveniles and activity in violation of his Level III Sex Offender status, Clifton is being held at the Norwich Police Department, pending arraignment, The investigation is ongoing, and more charges are expected.

Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies arrested 37 year old Matthew Walsh of Sidney For 3rd degree Grand Larceny. Walsh was arrested last August on multiple felony and misdemeanor charges related to an identity theft investigation, earlier this week he was additionally charged with Grand Larceny, Walsh was located with the help is the Sidney Police Department, Walsh was turned over to the Delaware County Correctional Facility Centralized Arraignment where he was released on his own recognizance and directed to appear at the Village of Sidney court at a later date to answer for the charge.

The Otsego County Sheriff’s Office arrested 33 year old Gary Garbera of Oneonta following an investigation into a property damage motor vehicle accident on East Street in Oneonta. Garbera fled the vehicle and after a search of the immediate area, he was located and taken into custody without further incident. Garbera was charged with Criminal Possession of a Firearm, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Criminal Use Drug Paraphernalia, Resisting Arrest, Felony DWI, Operating Motor Vehicle Impaired by Drugs, Aggravated Unlicensed Operation and Numerous NYS Vehicle and Traffic Law Violations, he was processed and released on an Appearance Ticket returnable to Town of Oneonta Court at a later date.

Law Enforcement responded in August of 2021, August 1st of 2024, October 11th of 2024 for a number of issues regarding Regazzi for Burglaries, Assault, & violating the terms of probation, in November, the Delaware County Grand Jury returned a one count Indictment charging Regazzi with Criminal Contempt. Regazzi was brought before Judge Rosa Wednesday for sentencing, where the DA"s office asked for the maximum sentence allowable under the law due to Regazzi’s latest violent charges and for his willful disobedience of the Court’s orders, from 3 different courts.
Mirabito Philanthropy, announced that their Golf Tournament from last year raised over $150,000 to various Charities. The family of Robert Brooks filed a federal civil rights lawsuit on Wednesday after Brooks was beaten by correctional officers at Marcy Correctional Facility and died at an area hospital the following day in December. The New York State Attorney General's Office has stepped back from the investigation, the case has been turned over to Onondaga County District Attorney's office for the officials investigation. The Lawsuit in the United States District Court for the Northern District of New York is against 17 defendants who are directly or indirectly involved in Brooks case.
The Broome County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a missing person, last seen in the Town of Chenango. 69 Year old Adib “Eddie” Rouhana, of Vestal was last seen on Saturday, January 11th around Noon in the 1100 block of Upper Front St. in the Town of Chenango, report any tips, video footage, sightings, or information to the Broome County Sheriff’s Office at Tip Line at (607) 778-1196.

46 year old Andre Gilliam of the Town of Chenango was sentenced to 5.5 years in State Prison followed by 3 years of post-release supervision after being found guilty by a Broome County Jury of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance and Criminally Using Drug Paraphernalia. On November 7, 2023, the Broome County Special Investigations Unit executed a narcotics search warrant on Castle Creek Road, Town of Chenango, they seized fentanyl, a cutting agent, a digital scale and nearly $4000 cash from suspected drug sales.
The State DEC Forest Rangers conducted 362 search and rescue missions, extinguished 122 wildfires covering nearly 6,500 acres, participated in 60 prescribed fires that served to rejuvenate more than 1,155 acres of land, and worked on cases that resulted in more than 1,200 tickets and arrests in 2024. On December 14th in the Otsego County Town of Plainfield, forest rangers discovered pallets & construction waste in the Plainfield State Forest, as well as a serial number on a discarded freezer, which was traced back to an unidentified restaurant, last week, Rangers determined who was responsible for the illegal dumping and issued a ticket for depositing debris on State land. The subject is also required to remove the debris.

35 year old Jeffrey Lane was sentenced as a second violent felony offender in Broome County Court to 5 years in State Prison followed by 5 years of post-release supervision for 2nd degree Robbery. On March 10, 2024, Lane confronted an Uber driver in Binghamton, Lane pulled the Uber driver from the vehicle and stole it, leading law enforcement on a high speed pursuit before being apprehended.
Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 34 year old Kyle Packer of Edmeston, for Criminal Mischief, following an investigation into the report of a damaged property, he was processed and released on an appearance ticket returnable to the town of Edmeston Court at a later date. Packer was arrested last October for violating of a Court Order of Protection, where he was charged with 2 counts of 3rd degree Burglary plus 4 counts of Criminal Contempt, he also faced similar charges in July of 2023.

Broome County Sheriff's Office arrested 21 year old Matthew Bartosik of Conklin for 2nd degree Murder, Attempted Murder, Criminal Use of a Firearm, Criminal Possession of a Weapon & Criminal Contempt, following an investigation into a fatal shooting at 58 Leslie Avenue in Conklin Friday morning. Sheriff Fred Akshar held a Press Conference this afternoon with updates on the case:

Sheriff Akshar said that Deputies had been to the residence several times since Early December for a variety of family disputes, Bartosik was arraigned Friday and was remanded to the Broome County Correctional Facility.
Delaware County District Attorney Shawn Smith announced that the 40 year old Dorothy West of Arkville pleaded guilty to Driving a Motor Vehicle While Ability Impaired by Drugs, she was sentenced to a one-year conditional discharge, she is also required to attend an Impaired Driver Program, and her license is revoked for at least 6 months. On March 17th, 2024, State Police responded to a welfare check at the Dollar General in Margaretville, with a driver asleep in a car. West failed testing at the scene & was found to be impaired by drugs.

New York State Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services’ Office of Counter Terrorism in partnership with State Police, conducted training exercises at more than 900 locations statewide in 2024 to increase public vigilance and reporting of suspicious activity. The State Department of Labor released local unemployment rates for November, The State’s unemployment rate held constant at 4.4% in November, locally, Chenango Country reported 3% unemployment, Delaware Country registered 3.4% and Otsego County had 3.3% unemployment in November.
Delaware Opportunities and the Delaware County Chamber of Commerce provided Christmas gifts to Delaware County children in need this month, Over 800 children from nearly 300 families benefited from this collaborative effort this year.
The Chenango Arts Council has been awarded at $40,000 Grant from the New York State Council on the Arts. The State Council has awarded $82 million this year to 509 artists and 1,497 organizations across the state.

Otsego County District Attorney's Office announced the sentencing of Jamesan Conville of Pennsylvania. Conville was charged with reckless endangerment for driving off with an Otsego County Deputy partially inside of his car and dragged the deputy 300 feet. The deputy conducted a traffic stop on I-88 in the Town of Milford after Conville was clocked at about 100 miles an hour. Conville is expected to serve between 1 to 4 years in state prison.
State Police reported that a small Beechcraft aircraft made an emergency landing on the State Thruway in the city of Albany Friday afternoon. The pilot was 19 year old Logan Steed of South Carolina, he told police that he realized he wouldn’t make the Albany Airport runway due to mechanical issues and instead decided to land on the Thruway. Steed & his 2 passengers were not injured, they were heading to Vermont, State Police and the FAA continue to investigate the incident.
Friends of Recovery Dedicated to Others celebrated the re-opening of its new recovery center, “The Turning Point of Delaware County” on Friday. The new facility provides a new and improved space for people struggling with substance abuse and addiction. The building additionally has a private entrance to keep confidentiality for patients going to the downtown Delhi location.

State Police, fire and emergency responders were dispatched to a 1-vehicle crash in the town of Andes. An investigation at the scene determined that a vehicle was traveling south on Fall Clove Road when it exited the roadway, striking a tree head-on. The operator, 43 year old Harland Dye of Delancey and the passenger, 34 year old Kate Cornelius-Schecter of Brooklyn, were transported to O’Connor Hospital, Dye was pronounced deceased at the hospital, Cornelius-Shecter was transported to Albany Medical Center for further treatment.
Chenango County Sheriff’s Office arrested 29 year old Shawn Roach of Norwich for Criminal Contempt Friday. Roach is accused of violating a full stay away order of protection, by entering the victim's residence where an argument ensued, and Roach threatened the victim several times, and damaged the door when the victim locked him out. Roach fled on foot, and while deputies were on scene taking a statement from the victim, he called the victim twice, violating the order of protection again, he was located & was taken into custody without incident, he was remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility.
The Bainbridge Chamber of Commerce will have their next meeting tomorrow morning, beginning at 7:30 AM. The meeting will be held in the back of Bob's Diner.

Chenango County Sheriff's Office arrested 30 year old Dimitri Grassi of Greene for 2 Counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon, 1count of Criminal Sale of a Firearm and Manufacture, Transport, Disposition and Defacement of Weapons. Grassi is accused of selling a fully automatic firearm to an Undercover Detective, he also possessed and sold a weapon with a high-capacity magazine, with partially removed serial numbers. Grassi was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office for processing. Grassi was later released and is to appear in the Town of North Norwich Court at a later date.
Chenango County Sheriff’s Office arrested 18 year old Connor Ashton of Deansboro for Torturing or Injuring Animals/Failure to Provide Sustenance. Ashton was arrested following an investigation of an animal cruelty complaint from Sherburne. Ashton was released on an appearance ticket and is to appear in the Town of Sherburne Court on a later date.
The Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 44 year old David Wells of West Winfield for Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a motor vehicle, Operating a Motor Vehicle without an Ignition Inter-lock Device & Speeding, among other charges, following following a traffic stop in the Town of Edmeston. Wells was found to be operating the vehicle without an ignition interlock device installed as required per a court order & with a revoked driver's license, he was issued an Appearance Ticket for Edmeston Town Court at a later date.

Crotts was charged with Driving while intoxicated, Driving while ability impaired by drugs, Criminal possession of a controlled substance & Miscellaneous Traffic Citations, The investigation revealed that Crotts had been operating a motor vehicle while impaired by drugs he was arrested and later released after the issuance of appearance tickets for Town of Oneonta court at a later date.
Governor Kathy Hochul will deliver the 2025 STATE OF THE STATE ADDRESS on Tuesday, January 14, 2025 at 1:00 PM. the address will be delivered before a joint session of the legislature at the Hart Theater at The Egg in the Empire State Plaza in Albany.
Starting January 1st, the minimum wage will go up 50 cents, followed by another 50-cent increase starting January 1, 2026. The minimum wage will be set at $17 in New York City, Long Island, and Westchester County and the rest of the state will be set at $16. 30 year old Joshua Mazyck of Endicott, pleaded guilty to Attempted Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree and will serve 6 years in New York State Prison followed by 5 years post release supervision as a second felony in Broome County Court. On June 5, after a traffic stop and subsequent investigation by State Police, Mazyck was found to be in possession of fentanyl, packaging materials, a loaded handgun, cutting agents, and a digital scale.

State Police issued a total of 24,191 tickets statewide during this year’s special Thanksgiving holiday traffic enforcement period, from Saturday, November 23, through Sunday, December 1st. Troopers arrested 251 people for DWI and investigated 1,259 crashes, including three fatal crashes. In the Southern Tier there were 1146 total tickets issued.
Otsego County Sheriffs arrested 47-year-old Timothy Stone of Cooperstown Friday, based on a report of physical child abuse at a residence in the Town of Middlefield. Further investigation revealed that Stone was involved in a domestic dispute with a pregnant juvenile, allegedly placing the juvenile in a choke-hold before throwing the victim on the floor, causing unknown injuries. Stone was located by Oneida County Sheriffs and taken into custody without further incident. Stone was charged with 3rd-degree Assault, Criminal Obstruction of Breathing, Endangering the Welfare of a Child, an order of protection has been requested on behalf of the victim.
State Police were dispatched Thursday by the Delaware County 911 Center to an assault on County Route 17 in the town of Hancock. 40 year old Nelson Lopez of Roscoe, violated an order of protection and caused physical injury to Julianna Stowers-Lopez of Roscoe, who also caused serious injury to Lopez by stabbing him in the upper body. Both suffered non-life-threatening injuries and were transported by separate ambulances to Wilson Medical Center. Both were released from the hospital Friday, Lopez was charged Criminal Contempt & 2nd degree Assault, Stowers-Lopez was charged with 1st degree Assault, Both were transported to the Delaware County Correctional Facility for Centralized Arraignment.
27 year old Martha Clemons of Oxford was arrested by the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office for Burglary, Grand Larceny, Criminal Mischief, Harassment and Resisting Arrest. Deputies responded to a domestic dispute, Clemens is accused of unlawfully and forcefully entering a residence and stole the victim’s dog, struck the victim, refused to comply with Deputies orders to come out of the residence. An arrest warrant was then signed, And Clemens was taken into custody, & was arraigned in the Town of Oxford Court and released on her own recognizance. Chenango County Sheriff’s Office Detectives Division arrested 2 Norwich Juveniles last week for 3rd degree Burglary, Criminal Mischief, Grand Larceny & Conspiracy in the 6th degree. On the morning of August 17, a business in the Town of Norwich was burglarized by the juveniles, property was damaged and merchandise was stolen. The Juvenile’s were brought to the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office for processing, they were arraigned in Chenango County Youth Court, the case was turned over to Chenango County Family Court, where the Juveniles were released into the custody of their parents/guardians.
The Broome County Special Investigations Unit Task Force were alerted to a stolen SUV by multiple license plate readers, the vehicle was located in Binghamton , officers approached the stolen vehicle, & the driver, 32 year old Zachary Swire of Tunkhannock, Pennsylvania drove away, he was wanted on 2 active arrest warrants for felony theft of a motor vehicle and related charges. Swire refused to comply, struck multiple vehicles & went back into Pennsylvania on 3 wheels, he went off the road, attempted to flee on foot & was taken into custody. He was charged in New York for Reckless Endangerment, criminal mischief, criminal possession of stolen property & obstruction governmental administration, he was turned back over to Pennsylvania authorities to face felony charges in his home state.

Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 23 year old Kristian Deloatch of Oneonta following a traffic stop Sunday in the Town of Oneonta. Deloatch was charged with Reckless Driving & Speed Over 55 mph, he is accused of driving at approximately 40 mph over the posted speed limit, he was issued an Appearance Ticket and scheduled to appear in the Town of Oneonta Court at a later date.
On Monday at the DEP Offices on Smith Street in Kingston, community leaders gathered to announce a new initiative to improve wireless connectivity across the watershed. New York City DEP Commissioner Aggarwala discussed the project’s aim to build wireless infrastructure that will not only enhance DEP operations but also address the gaps in connectivity affecting local communities. The project will help fill in "dead zones" along critical roadways and ensure better communications for first responders, in areas where cell service is unreliable. The DEP's ability to create this infrastructure on their land will allow private wireless carriers to also utilize it to provide much-needed service boost to residents and businesses.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies received a complaint last week regarding a stolen vehicle from a driveway in the Town of Tompkins. Deputies were contacted by State Police, as they had located the vehicle parked at a residence in the Town of Bainbridge. 37 year old Aaron Howard of Walton was charged with Grand Larceny, Criminal Possession of Stolen Property and Unauthorized use of a Motor Vehicle. 36 year old Courtney Condon of Walton was charged with Grand Larceny and Criminal Possession of Stolen Property.
A pilot and a rescue dog he was transporting to an animal shelter were killed when a small plane crashed near Windham Sunday. 49 year old Seuk Kim of Springfield Virginia was flying from Maryland to Albany, when his plane crashed, 2 other dogs on the plane survived. Kim died on impact, the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board were investigating the crash.
Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 68 year old Frederick Pangburn of Schoharie for 2 counts of Grand Larceny, following an investigation in to a report of possible extortion. Pangburn allegedly threatened to post intimate photographs of a victim online if he was not given the victim’s vehicle and additional cash, he was located in Worcester and taken in to custody & was being held at the Otsego County Correctional Facility to await Centralized Arraignment. A request for an order of protection was made on behalf of the victim.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies responded Saturday to an ATV crash near Fuller Hollow Road in the Town of Hamden. Prior to Deputies’ arrival, Delaware County 911 reported that a victim had been privately transported to Delaware Valley Hospital in the Village of Walton with a second victim still on scene. Deputies located the 2nd victim, an 11-year-old male, at a residence, who was transported to Albany Medical Center by Life Net for non-life-threatening injuries. The 1st Victim was a 13-year-old female who was pronounced deceased at the Delaware Valley Hospital, due to injuries sustained from the crash.
Local sales tax collections in New York state increased by 2.3% in October according to State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli. Local collections totaled $1.84 billion for the month, up $41 million from the previous October, County and city collections outside of New York City increased by only .4%, 36 of 57 counties experienced year-over-year increases.

Delaware County Sheriff's Office arrested 3 people after a 3-month investigation into fraud, forgery and identity theft. In August, Deputies received a complaint in regard to stolen funds from multiple accounts, multiple unknown charges and new accounts being opened without consent. Deputies, Sidney Police & State Police and the Delaware County District Attorney's Office arrested 44 year old Lori Brooks of Sidney, 27 year old Joshua Hunt of Unadilla & 37 year old Matthew Walsh of Sidney on a variety of charges including Grand Larceny, Conspiracy, Criminal Possession of a Forged Instrument & criminal possession of stolen property, Brooks was issued an appearance ticket and turned over to State Police for an outstanding warrant & was then turned over to the Otsego County Correctional Facility for arraignment. Hunt was being held at the Otsego County Jail on an unrelated charge, he was processed & was brought back to the Otsego County Jail, Walsh was turned over to the Delaware County Correctional Facility for Arraignment, he will appear at the Village of Sidney Court at a later date, the investigation is ongoing and additional arrests are possible.
A Delaware County Correction Officer discovered an incarcerated individual unresponsive in a cell Tuesday, personnel began conducting lifesaving measures, and emergency medical services were called. Following extensive efforts, lifesaving measures were unsuccessful, and the incarcerated individual was pronounced dead at the Delaware County Corrections Facility by a Delaware County Medical Examiner. The case was referred to the Office of the New York State Attorney General and the New York State Commission of Correction for external review.

Otsego County Sheriff's Office announced the arrest of 29 year old Eugene Buzie of Unadilla for multiple sex offense charges following an investigation. The Otsego County Sheriff’s Office announces the addition of charges in to the investigation involving Buzie, On July 19th he was arrested by investigators for multiple sex offense related charges. Upon further investigation, it was discovered that the defendant did request, receive and possess a sexual performance by a child through online sources & was charged additionally with Possession of Sexual Performance by a child, Buzie was still incarcerated on the previous charges, he was produced from the Oneida County Correctional Facility to be processed on the new charge, at the Otsego County Correctional Facility and he was returned to the Oneida County Correctional Facility with an Appearance Ticket returnable to the Town of Unadilla Court at a later date.
The Chenango County Sheriff’s Office is currently looking for 40 year old Donald Shurock Jr. A Chenango County Deputy was called to a State Highway 26 in Pitcher Thursday for a suspicious vehicle complaint, the Deputy identified one of the occupants as Shurock, who has active warrants for his arrest. Shurock resisted arrest and fled the scene on foot, causing the Deputy to sustain physical injury. The Deputy was transported to a local hospital and was treated & released. Shurock is described as a white male, approximately 5’8” tall, weighing approximately 165 pounds, balding with short brown hair, brown beard and mustache, wearing a black winter hat, blue/gray Carhartt jacket, jeans, and boots. In addition to the active arrest warrants, Shurock is now wanted on charges of Assault on a Police Officer and Resisting Arrest. On September 4, the Sheriff’s Office Special Response Team, executed a no knock search warrant at a residence on State Highway 10 in the Town of Walton, they arrested 43 year old Benjamin Pankiewicz, 22 year old Gage Pankiewicz & 37 year old Ashley Calabrese, all of Walton on a number of drug charges, A quantity of Methamphetamine, Fentanyl, drug packaging & processing equipment were seized, as well as a firearm and approximately $1,000 in cash. All 3 were arraigned, Benjamin and Gage Pankiewicz were were released to reappear at a later date, Ashley Calabrese was remanded to the Delaware County Jail on $7,500 bail.

State Police were dispatched Friday afternoon to a crash involving a dump truck into a residence on Old Plank Road in the town of Sanford. A 29-year-old male who was operating the dump truck was pronounced deceased at the scene, 3 people were inside the residence at the time of the crash, with a 10 year-old male airlifted to Albany Medical Center for injuries. A 22-year-old male was not injured. A 40-year-old female was treated by EMS at the scene. The investigation is on-going.
3 people were arrested following a traffic stop by the Broome County Sheriff’s Strategic Response Group on Matthews Street in Binghamton last Wednesday night. Patrols determined that the vehicle had no insurance, was unregistered, uninspected and all 3 occupants had suspended driving privileges, deputies observed a pistol partially concealed on the floor of the vehicle, a search of the vehicle revealed methamphetamine, & a digital scale. Officers arrested 26 year old Stanley Conklin of Binghamton, 39 year old Jorge Cortina of Binghamton & 31 year old Christen Sterling of Johnson City were arrested on a number of drug & weapons charges, with Conklin also facing 10 traffic violations. All 3 were transported for arraignment and are currently in custody at the Broome County Sheriff’s Correctional Facility.

State Police and Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the 2800 block of State Highway 268 in the town of Hancock for a report of a shooting Wednesday Morning. A 32-year-old man was shot in the upper arm and airlifted to Albany Medical Center, with a non-life-threatening injury. 60 year old Robert Trago Jr., of Hancock, was charged with Attempted Murder and Criminal Possession of a Weapon, he was located just before 3:00 pm., in the Margaretville area and taken into custody. Trago Jr. was taken to Delhi where he was arraigned & was remanded to the Delaware County Correctional Facility on $100,000 cash, $200,000 credit, $400,000 bond.
The Delaware County Planning Board announced that they plan to develop a Strategic Comprehensive Plan, to guide future growth, development, and preservation in the County. Fisher Associates will lead the planning process and public engagement efforts. Public Input Sessions will be on Monday, September 16, from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM at the Hobart Community Center & Tuesday, September 17 from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM at the Walton Fire Hall, on West Street. The input gathered from the public survey and during these initial input sessions will be reviewed by Delaware County Planning and Fisher Associates, followed by additional opportunities for public review and comment.

State Police are investigating a shooting incident that occurred shortly after 8:00 am., in the 2800 block of State Highway 268 in the town of Hancock.  One person was air lifted to Albany Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries. The investigation is on-going, State Police are asking the public to avoid the 2800 block of State Route 268 while the investigation continues.
Broome County Sheriff's Office arrested 35 year old Travis Ross of Whitney Point for allegedly driving head-on into and on top of an occupied vehicle in the Town of Triangle. Early Monday morning, Deputies responded to a report of a 2-car motor vehicle accident in Triangle, patrols found Ross in the drivers seat of a Pickup truck that was parked on top of a Mitsubishi Eclipse, the 2 passengers escaped, 1 hid nearby and the other called 911 at a nearby store, neither occupants was injured. Ross was charged with 2 counts of Reckless Endangerment, 2 counts of 2nd degree Assault, along with several traffic violations, he was processed & released to appear at a later date in the Town of Triangle Court.
The Susquehanna SPCA & the Otsego County Sheriff's Department rescued 2 dogs & 2 Quail from a residence on County Route 35 in Milford. 2 emaciated dogs were taken to Cornell for treatment, the shelter is working with the Friends Network to foster and rehabilitate the birds, to donate or to receive more information, go to sqspca.org.

On Monday, Broome County Sheriff’s Office Road Patrol responded to the report of a male that had been stabbed in the chest at an apartment complex In the Town of Union. Patrols located the victim lying on the ground of the parking lot of the complex, with two witnesses providing first aid, deputies immediately provided life-saving measures until EMS arrived. The victim was then transported to UHS Wilson Hospital, where he remains in serious condition. 32 year old Janzer Canelo of Endicott and the victim were both residents of the apartment complex and had been in an ongoing dispute over laundry, Canelo was charged with 1st Degree Assault, he was transported for arraignment & remains in custody at the Broome County Sheriff’s Correctional Facility.

State Police responded to Otsego County Road 23 and Wing Hill Road in the town of Exeter Friday Afternoon for a two vehicle crash. A 4 door sedan was making a left turn on a sharp curve onto Wing Hill Road when the driver did not see an SUV from the opposite direction, The vehicles collided and both caught fire, A passerby with a fire extinguisher assisted in getting a family out of the sedan and another person assisted the driver of the SUV out of their vehicle. 3 LifeNet helicopters responded to the area. 3 children & the driver of the sedan; Nicole Rinaldo of Ilion were transported to various hospitals, The driver of the SUV, 52 year old Michael Salon of Herkimer, was transported by helicopter to Albany Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.
Otsego County Sheriff's office arrested 41 year old Justin Ingalls of Milford for Reckless Endangerment of Property, Criminal Possession of Controlled Substance, Trespassing & Aggravated Unlicensed Operation, following an investigation following an incident at Apple Foods Store in Milford. Ingalls was held at the Otsego County Correctional Facility.

Delaware County District Attorney Shawn Smith announced that 20 year old Joseph VanBlarcom of Margaretville was indicted by the Delaware County Grand Jury Thursday, for Aggravated Harassment as a Hate Crime, VanBlarcom is accused of driving in the Village of Fleischmanns on July 29, he threw objects out the window and swerved his vehicle at 3 Jewish men walking along Main Street, and for yelling bias obscenities regarding the men’s religion, he was released in his own recognizance & is scheduled to be arraigned on the indictment in Delaware County Court on August 26th.
39 year old Joshua Smallze of Binghamton has been sentenced to 9 years in State Prison, followed by 5 years of post-release supervision. Smallze was convicted of Burglary and Criminal Mischief, by a Broome County Jury in May. Smallze forcefully entered 75 Prospect Street in the City of Binghamton on January 22, 2023, where he assaulted the resident, caused property damage to the victim’s residence by hurling a brick through a window.
Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 38 year old Stanley Kingston of Albany, following a traffic stop on July 26, in the Town of Oneonta. Kingston was charged with Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated, DWI, with a previous conviction within 10 years, 2 counts of Aggravated Unlicensed Operation, driving a vehicle without Ignition Interlock Device, among other charges, Kingston had a revoked license, he was released with appearance tickets for Oneonta Town court at a later date.

State Police responded Saturday Afternoon to a report of a single car crash with entrapment in the town of Franklin. 74 year old Gjeto Vulaj of Delhi was traveling south on County Highway 16 in a 2005 Jeep Wrangler, he went off the road into a ditch and his vehicle became engulfed in flames. Vulaj was trapped in the vehicle when a family member who was traveling behind him and another citizen attempted to remove him from the vehicle but they were unsuccessful. Vulaj was ultimately extricated by fire personnel from Franklin and Treadwell Fire Departments. He was transported to A.O Fox Hospital but did not survive. The family member who attempted to free Vulaj suffered smoke inhalation and burns. The investigation is continuing.
49 year old Keith Audette of Hamden was indicted for Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs by the Delaware County Grand Jury last week. The Indictment alleges that on April 9th, Audette was driving in the Village of Walton while impaired by methamphetamines, he was previously convicted of operating a motor vehicle with .08 BAC in 2015 in Chenango County, where he was required to have an interlock device in any vehicle he operates. Audette was also charged with Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle as well as driving without an Interlock Device, & he faces court action shortly.
37 year old Eric Black of Walton was indicted by the Delaware County Grand Jury last week on a 2 Count Indictment for Grand Larceny, he is accused of stealing 2 guns from his mother’s residence which were secured in locked storage cases. Black faces court action on the indictment shortly.
Delaware County Sheriff's Office continues to ask for the public's help in locating a stolen Bandit Wood-chipper from the area of BWS Road and Mill Brook Road in the Town of Middletown, sometime between June 3rd & 4th. 25 year old Justin Robinson of Homer, Michigan is facing the charges of Criminal Contempt and Harassment, following an Order of Protection Violation, which occurred in the Town of Kortright. The 214th New York State Police Academy Graduation, was held today this morning at the Empire State Plaza Convention Center in Albany. 228 new Troopers completed the Basic School of the New York State Police Academy, 26 of the new Troopers are being assigned to Troop C in Sidney.
Broome County Sheriff’s Office was awarded a grant totaling $834,118 from the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services. The majority of the funding will be utilized to purchase a county-wide License Plate Reader network, to help in identifying and locating wanted criminals and fugitives entering the community, as well as helping locate stolen vehicles and vehicles involved in ongoing investigations. Some of the funding will also go toward purchasing a new Digital Forensic Computer and provide tablet and smartboard training technology for the Broome County Law Enforcement Academy.

Sheriff DuMond said that 4 Officers in New York State have been killed in the line of duty this year already, including 2 near Syracuse last week, & he mentioned that stabbing of a Norwich Police officer recently who escaped being fatally injured, he is calling on Lawmakers to support the efforts of law enforcement with meaningful legislation before the end of the current session in June.
The Broome County Special Investigations Unit Task Force said officers executed the search warrant at 15 Corbett Avenue where Officers seized methamphetamines, crack cocaine, fentanyl and methadone, as well as items used for weighing and packaging narcotics. 41 year old Jeremy Bezek was charged with multiple counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance & criminally using drug paraphernalia, 25 year old Carter Dennison was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance, both face court action shortly.

Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies conducted a traffic stop for violations in the town of Middletown, Deputies arrested 28 year old Frank Mazepa of Morris for Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle, for driving with 3 active suspensions on his license, he was charged with several other traffic infractions, & he was directed to appear at the Town of Middletown Court at a later date to answer for the charges. Mazepa was also found to be the subject of an active violent felony arrest warrant and was turned over to the Oneonta Police Department, where he was held pending arraignment.
Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies were dispatched on March 4th to a 1 car motor vehicle accident located on East Hubbell Hill Road, in the Town of Middletown. 25-year-old Filemon Garcia Jr., of Middletown, lost control of the vehicle, left the roadway and entered into a ditch, causing damage to private property. Following the investigation and the results of toxicology report, Deputies arrested Garcia this week for DWI, Aggravated DWI with a BAC of .18% or above, Consumption of Alcohol in a Motor vehicle, speed not reasonable and prudent, among other charges, he was released & was ordered to appear in the Town of Middletown Court at a later date.
