In commemoration of the 20th anniversary of the September 11th, 2001 attacks, the Albany Stratton VA Medical Center will hold a commemoration Saturday, September 11, at 8:45 AM at their All Faith Chapel to honor the lives lost and those lives that were changed by the tragic events. The online event will be available at on youtube.com; they will also host a story and pictorial collage in remembrance of that day on their Facebook page at facebook.com/VAAlbany.
Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies were dispatched to a 1 car motor vehicle accident Thursday on State Highway 23 in the Town of Davenport, near the intersection of Brick House Hill Road. The investigation determined that a 13-year-old passenger sustained a serious head injury from the accident & LifeNet airlifted the teen to Albany Medical Center. The driver 35 year-old Robert Smith of Davenport sustained minor injuries and was treated at the scene. Deputies learned that Smith fell asleep at the wheel, the car travelled across the on-coming lane of traffic and ran off the roadway where it struck a tree, Smith was charged with operating a motor vehicle with a suspended registration, moving from a lane unsafely, failure to keep right, he will appear in the Town of Davenport Court at a later date.

Insinga said that the Unadilla House had become problematic with squatters and drug users damaging the property in recent years, the squatters have left and they are now hoping to turn that around, re-open the business & fix the apartments.

Delaware County Public Health announced that a 53rd death from COVID 19 complications, they have had 100 new positive cases in the last week, there are 118 active cases, 4 hospitalized and 170 are quarantined. The CDC & Delaware County Public Health recommends everyone should wear a mask indoors in public places. Vaccine clinic sites at can be found at covid19vaccine.health.ny.gov. Currently, 49.4% of the Delaware County population is vaccinated, 77% of the positive cases are unvaccinated, 23% of the positive cases are vaccinated & 2.5% of positive cases are college students/employees.

Oneonta police arrested an Andes, man after a traffic stop and a search of his car led to the discovery of heroin and oxycodone pills. 21-year-old Austin Rose was stopped by Police on Center Street, Police seized 12.5 grams of powdered heroin, oxycodone pills; and $3,679 in cash. Rose was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance, and was being held by the Oneonta Police Department pending arraignment in the City of Oneonta Court. Oneonta police were assisted by State Police and Delaware County Sheriff Department with K-9 Ozzie.
The Suicide Prevention Network of Delaware County is sponsoring a free educational forum, “Let’s Talk-Mental Health Awareness” tonight from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the Roxbury Central School. The event seeks to raise awareness about the importance of mental health wellness, from childhood, the teen years through adulthood. Suicide is the 12th leading cause of death overall in New York State, in Delaware County the age adjusted suicide rate is 9.5 per 100,000 people which is above the NY State average. The Town of Unadilla Highway Department announced that Alton Deforest Road would be closed on Wednesday. Officials announced that the road closure would be from 6:30 AM to 4:30 PM.
The Chenango County Sheriff’s Office investigated a 2 car fatal motor vehicle crash on County Road 29 in the Town of New Berlin. Vehicle 1 was operated by 19-year-old Matthew Collins of Plymouth, when it crossed the center line into the path of vehicle 2 being operated by 65 year old John Mckernan of New Berlin, who was pronounced dead at the scene. Collins was not injured; he was charged with Failure to Keep Right and will appear in court at a later date.

Former General Clinton Canoe Regatta chairperson Pam LeFever died Wednesday at her Unadilla residence, following a lengthy illness. LaFever was an area business owner and had volunteered in a variety of local endeavors, including serving as the chair for the general Clinton canoe regatta for 6 years, and for supporting veterans serving in the military overseas. Calling hours will be from 1:00 to 3:00 PM on Friday December 28th at C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, Main Street in Sidney, followed by a memorial service there at 3:00 PM. State Police at Sidney arrested a 16-year-old male, of Afton for 2nd degree Harassment and Criminal Mischief. The arrest resulted from a domestic dispute complaint at a residence in Afton, The unidentified Teen was arraigned and remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility on $5000 cash bail and is scheduled to appear in the Town of Afton Court at a later date.
The Sidney Elks Lodge will hold their annual Free Throw “Hoop Shoot” contest on Saturday at the Boys & Girls Club of Sidney in the Sidney Civic Center.
