The U.S. Social Security officials reported a new scam where people posing as Social Security Agents ask unsuspecting residents for cash or gift cards & to meet them in person to hand off the cash. Social Security agents will never pick up money of gift cards from anyone, Officials state that you should stop talking to the scammer, & Call the police and file a police report & File a complaint with the FBI Internet Crime Complaint Center at ic3.gov. Report Social Security-related scams to oig.ssa.gov & ftc.gov.

The 10th Annual "YOUTH FOR CHRIST 5K JOKER 3.6 MILE RUN & 1.1 MILE WALK" will be held Saturday, funds raised will support the Teen Center at 16 Watson Street in Unadilla. The run starts at 10:30 A.M. at the Teen Center.

The Town of Unadilla announced their Spring Clean up will be held this Friday starting at 6:30 Am until 2:00 PM. The town will accept, Appliances, Scrap Metal, Electronics, 4 tires per residence, more information is available at town of unadilla.org.

In commemoration of the 20th anniversary of the September 11th, 2001 attacks, the Albany Stratton VA Medical Center will hold a commemoration Saturday, September 11, at 8:45 AM at their All Faith Chapel to honor the lives lost and those lives that were changed by the tragic events. The online event will be available at on youtube.com; they will also host a story and pictorial collage in remembrance of that day on their Facebook page at facebook.com/VAAlbany.

Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies were dispatched to a 1 car motor vehicle accident Thursday on State Highway 23 in the Town of Davenport, near the intersection of Brick House Hill Road.  The investigation determined that a 13-year-old passenger sustained a serious head injury from the accident & LifeNet airlifted the teen to Albany Medical Center.  The driver 35 year-old Robert Smith of Davenport sustained minor injuries and was treated at the scene.   Deputies learned that Smith fell asleep at the wheel, the car travelled across the on-coming lane of traffic and ran off the roadway where it struck a tree, Smith was charged with operating a motor vehicle with a suspended registration, moving from a lane unsafely, failure to keep right, he will appear in the Town of Davenport Court at a later date.

Plans will be in the works shortly, as Unadilla House Owner Gus Hatzidakis & Unadilla Mayor Jack Insinga will work together to try to get funding to rebuild & restore the long time Unadilla Centerpiece, Mayor Insinga said that he discussed it with Hatzidakis today & told WCDO what they expect to do next:

Insinga said that the Unadilla House had become problematic with squatters and drug users damaging the property in recent years, the squatters have left and they are now hoping to turn that around, re-open the business & fix the apartments.

Delaware County Public Health announced that a 53rd death from COVID 19 complications, they have had 100 new positive cases in the last week, there are 118 active cases, 4 hospitalized and 170 are quarantined.  The CDC & Delaware County Public Health recommends everyone should wear a mask indoors in public places.  Vaccine clinic sites at can be found at covid19vaccine.health.ny.gov.  Currently, 49.4% of the Delaware County population is vaccinated, 77% of the positive cases are unvaccinated, 23% of the positive cases are vaccinated & 2.5% of positive cases are college students/employees.

The Sidney Rotary Club & the Cullman Child Development Center will hold a "Family of Heroes" Event for area Children on Sunday at the Sidney Veteran's Memorial Park, according to spokesman Larry Halbert:

Funeral Services for Edward McKinley of Unadilla will be held at the First Presbyterian Church at 156 Main Street in Unadilla this Saturday 11:00 AM. The family will receive friends at First Presbyterian Church on Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the YFC Teen Center; POB 362 Oneonta, 13820. McKinley suffered fatal injuries when he was struck by an SUV Monday afternoon in Unadilla

The House of Consignment in Unadilla will host a "Tampon Drive" on Saturday September 24th, in order to collect feminine hygiene products for women in homeless shelters. House of Consignment owner Kirsty Roefs told WCDO News about the event:

Oneonta police arrested an Andes, man after a traffic stop and a search of his car led to the discovery of heroin and oxycodone pills. 21-year-old Austin Rose was stopped by Police on Center Street, Police seized 12.5 grams of powdered heroin, oxycodone pills; and $3,679 in cash. Rose was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance, and was being held by the Oneonta Police Department pending arraignment in the City of Oneonta Court. Oneonta police were assisted by State Police and Delaware County Sheriff Department with K-9 Ozzie.

The Suicide Prevention Network of Delaware County is sponsoring a free educational forum, “Let’s Talk-Mental Health Awareness” tonight from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the Roxbury Central School. The event seeks to raise awareness about the importance of mental health wellness, from childhood, the teen years through adulthood. Suicide is the 12th leading cause of death overall in New York State, in Delaware County the age adjusted suicide rate is 9.5 per 100,000 people which is above the NY State average. The Town of Unadilla Highway Department announced that Alton Deforest Road would be closed on Wednesday. Officials announced that the road closure would be from 6:30 AM to 4:30 PM.

The Chenango County Sheriff’s Office investigated a 2 car fatal motor vehicle crash on County Road 29 in the Town of New Berlin. Vehicle 1 was operated by 19-year-old Matthew Collins of Plymouth, when it crossed the center line into the path of vehicle 2 being operated by 65 year old John Mckernan of New Berlin, who was pronounced dead at the scene. Collins was not injured; he was charged with Failure to Keep Right and will appear in court at a later date.

The Sidney Memorial Public Library will begin their "Teen Tuesday" program today. The program is for 7th through 12th graders, it will be held at the Library Tuesday nights from 6:00 to 7:00 PM today through August 23rd. More information is available at 563-1200.

The Unadilla Youth for Christ organization will hold their 3rd annual 5K run this Saturday. The race begins at 10:30 from the Unadilla elementary school, registration & number pick up begins at 8:30. Cornell Cooperative Extension will be sponsoring two conferences on Epigenetics and Breastfeeding today with keynote speaker Larry Noble. The 1st conference is at the FoxCare Center from 7:30 am to 9:30 am, the 2nd at SUNY Delhi’s Okun Theatre from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm.

This morning at 8:30 AM until 9:30, The Otsego County Chamber of Commerce is hosting an Eye Opener Continental breakfast at The Hampton Inn in Oneonta on behalf of Catholic Charities for Delaware, Otsego and Schoharie counties. The Dispute Resolution Center of Catholic Charities is currently recruiting potential candidates to become trained volunteer mediators for their program.

State Police also reported today that a Teenager missing since April 3rd has been found safe. 17-year-old Hanna Tatro of Massena has been located, Tatro was reported missing as a possible runaway, Police are not releasing specific details at this time, but they do consier the case to be closed..

The Chenango County Sheriff’s Office is participating in the New York State Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee’s educational campaign of “The Empty Chair.” The Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee launched “The Empty Chair” educational campaign, which symbolizes the missing high school senior on graduation day. The Chenango County Sheriff’s Office will be putting out educational material this week in an effort to educate teen drivers and combat teen motor vehicle accidents. Registration is from 8:30 to 10:00 AM Saturday at the Unadilla Elementary School, the race begins at 10:30, and goes from the school to the Youth For Christ Center at 16 Watson Street in Unadilla.

The Unadilla head start parent group is hosting a zumbathon, silent auction, and bake sale, Saturday starting at 10 am. The event will be held at the Unadilla teen center @ 16 Watson street. All proceeds will benefit the head start students and a local family who had their home destroyed by a fire.

Former General Clinton Canoe Regatta chairperson Pam LeFever died Wednesday at her Unadilla residence, following a lengthy illness.  LaFever was an area business owner and had volunteered in a variety of local endeavors, including serving as the chair for the general Clinton canoe regatta for 6 years, and for supporting veterans serving in the military overseas.  Calling hours will be from 1:00 to 3:00 PM on Friday December 28th at C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, Main Street in Sidney, followed by a memorial service there at 3:00 PM.  Family & friends will gather at 4:00 PM at the Sidney American Legion on Union Street.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to Catskill Area Hospice and Palliative Care, 1 Birchwood Drive, Oneonta, 13820.

State Police at Sidney arrested a 16-year-old male, of Afton for 2nd degree Harassment and Criminal Mischief. The arrest resulted from a domestic dispute complaint at a residence in Afton, The unidentified Teen was arraigned and remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility on $5000 cash bail and is scheduled to appear in the Town of Afton Court at a later date.

The Sidney Elks Lodge will hold their annual Free Throw “Hoop Shoot” contest on Saturday at the Boys & Girls Club of Sidney in the Sidney Civic Center.
