36 year old John Pierre Regazzi of Delhi pleaded guilty to Assault, Forcible Touching and Criminal Contempt in Delaware County Court Wednesday, where he appeared for his scheduled pre-trial hearings. A jury trial was scheduled to commence on February 9, but Regazzi decided to enter a guilty plea, he will be sentenced to 5 years in state prison, to be followed by 3 years of post-release supervision, he will also be required to register as a sex offender for at least 20 years upon his release from state prison, and there will be a final order of protection in favor of the female victim. After pleading guilty, Judge Rosa remanded Regazzi back to the Delaware County Correctional Facility pending sentencing on April 1.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies pulled over a vehicle in Sidney Monday night , they arrested 61 year old Douglas Scott of Afton. Scott was charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Aggravated Unlicensed Operator, as was as a number of traffic summonses. Scott was released on traffic summons and an appearance ticket and is scheduled to appear in the Village of Sidney Court at a later date to answer the charges.
Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies arrested 23 year old Devon Kupris of Davenport for driving with a revoked driver’s license. Sheriff’s Deputies conducted a traffic stop last night in Delhi , Deputies determined that Kupris' privileges to operate a motor vehicle had been revoked on 5 prior dates and that he was required to have an interlock device installed on any vehicle that he operated due to previous alcohol-related charges. Kupris was charged with aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, operating out of interlock restriction, plus several other traffic violations, he was released on traffic summonses and was directed to appear at the town of Delhi court at a later date to answer the charges.

Governor Kathy Hochul today announced that President Biden has approved her request for a Major Disaster Declaration to provide federal assistance to communities impacted by Tropical Storm Debby on August 8-10. This declaration allows for federal financial assistance to support public infrastructure reconstruction efforts in several Counties, including Broome & Delaware Counties locally. A Major Disaster Declaration secures financial assistance through FEMA, and provides funding to local governments for debris removal and repairs to buildings and infrastructure, including roads, bridges, water and wastewater treatment facilities, critical infrastructure sites, schools, parks and other facilities. Grants of up to $50,000 will be available to eligible homeowners in Delaware County locally.

The House Ethics panel says it has found "substantial evidence" of lawbreaking by Congressman George Santos, and has referred its findings to the Justice Department. The committee said Thursday that Santos' conduct warrants public condemnation, is beneath the dignity of the office, and has brought severe discredit upon the House. State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation arrested 44 year old Erin Walker of Union, for 3rd degree Grand Larceny and Falsifying Business Records. An investigation revealed that Walker embezzled approximately $12,000 from American Window Cleaning Company in the town of Fenton from 2016 to 2022. Walker was arrested and brought to the Broome County Correctional Facility for Central Arraignment.
The Southern Tier Regional Economic Development Council will host a public open forum today to solicit feedback and priorities from the community, today at 5:30 at SUNY Delhi. The session will be led by Omar Sanders, who is the regional director of the Southern Tier Regional Council, he will be joined by representatives from River Street Planning and Development of Troy, they will focus on talent attraction and retention. Acting New York State Police Superintendent Steven Nigrelli has announced he's stepping down from office. Nigrelli was no longer under consideration for the permanent role, he plans to retire effective October 6th. A report from the Albany Times Union stated that Nigrelli was investigated for alleged harassment and discrimination complaints, he has served in law enforcement for 32 years.
22 year old Jacoyia Byrne of New York, was sentenced to a 3 year term of probation supervision for the crime of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance. . Byrne was arrested May 5th for selling amphetamine to undercover officers with the Delhi Police Department. The Department of Probation recommended Byrne receive a period of probation supervision as punishment, Judge Burkert accepted the plea agreement and sentenced Byrne.
The opening game of the Eastern League Championship Series between the Binghamton Rumble Ponies and Erie Seawolves scheduled for Sunday at Mirabito Stadium has been postponed due to inclement weather in the forecast. 19 year old Payton Gendron of Conklin has had his court date adjourned, due to the snow storm that dumped about 6 feet of snow on the Buffalo area since Thursday. Gendron was due in Erie County Court today to to answer to a series of charges for the fatal shooting for 10 people and the injuring of 3 others, during an attack on a Supermarket in a black neighborhood in May. Gendron is being held pending court action in for local and federal courts in the near future.
Delaware County Sheriff's deputies arrested 24 year old Henry Kaufmann of Delhi following an investigation into a 1 vehicle accident Friday night on State Highway 10 in Delhi. Deputies responded to the accident site, where the driver left the scene, Kaufmann was later located & he was charged with operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated, leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident, moving from lane unsafely, speed not reasonable and prudent, operating with no seat belt, and open container. Kaufmann was released on an appearance ticket and was scheduled to appear before the Town of Delhi Court at a later date.

Delaware County Sheriff's Office announced that a violation of post release conditions imposed by the Village of Walton Court has resulted in the arrest of a Sidney man.  Deputies & Sidney Police officers arrested 42-year-old Dana-John Britton of Sidney on the warrant for the parole violation after his release from the Delaware County Correctional Facility.  Britton was arraigned in the Village of Walton Court and was remanded to the Delaware County Correctional Facility on $10,000 cash bail or $20,000 bond.
The Delaware County Board of Elections is reminding county potential voters that October 8th is the last day to register in person and to postmark a registration form for the November 2nd General Election.  On this year's ballot is a Supreme Court Justice seat and many Town Offices, plus 5 State propositions and the Town of Colchester has one proposition on the Ballot. The Sidney Police Department investigated 2 incidents of a scheme where a forged postal money order had been used or attempted to be used at the Sidney Federal Credit Union in Sidney. The investigation revealed that the Sidney cases were similar to cases in other jurisdictions. A Delaware County Grand Jury handed down Sealed Indictments
last Thursday after a narcotics trafficking investigation in the Delhi area.  Sheriff’s Investigators and Deputies arrested
61 year-old Herbert Jones and 47 year-old Nicole Byron of Delhi Friday, for
Criminal Sale of a Controlled Substance, for allegedly selling Heroin in the
Village of Delhi in December.  Byron was
located and arrested in the City of Albany, & was returned to Delaware
County. Jones was arraigned in Delaware County Court on Friday and was remanded
to the Delaware County Correctional Facility without bail pending continuation
of his arraignment.   Byron was arraigned
in Delaware County Court this morning and was also remanded to the Delaware
County Correctional Facility to be held without bail pending continuation of the
arraignment.
A new report shows that the use of E-Cigarettes by New York
State youth has sky-rocketed in the last few years by 160% over 4 years.  Linda Wegner of Advancing Tobacco Free
Communities of Delaware Otsego & Schoharie Counties said that there is a
lot of work to be done to correct this issue:

Governor Cuomo today directed the New York Department of State to issue new regulations holding consumer credit reporting agencies accountable to the public. The regulations, adopted on an emergency basis and effective immediately, require consumer credit reporting agencies to respond within 10 days to requests made by the Department of State's Division of Consumer Protection on behalf of consumers. The new regulations to protect consumers are available at dos.ny.gov/consumerprotection.
The State's "Charge NY" initiative is offering electric car buyers a Rebate of up to $2,000 for new car purchases or leases, which when combined with a Federal Tax Credit of up to $7,500 can lead to savings for New Yorkers interested in the newer Green vehicles. State residents who buy or lease a plug-in hybrid or battery-powered car may qualify for the Drive Clean Rebate. Currently, there are 30 electric car models that can qualify for the rebate programs.

On Sunday, Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 25-year-old David Reed of Hamden on 1 count of 2nd degree Rape. Reed is accused of engaging in sexual contact with a child less than 15 years old. Reed was arraigned in Delhi Town Court and was remanded to the Delaware County Jail on $1000 bail; A Felony hearing is scheduled for Delhi Town Court at a later date.
State Police announced a "Missing Vulnerable Adult Alert" in the Southern Tier, for 78-year-old William Caloroso of Nichols, who is missing since Sunday. Caloroso is described as a white Male, 5’10", about 160 pounds with Brown Hair & eyes, he suffers from Alzheimer's disease and may be in need of medical attention. He was last seen on River Road in Nichols, at 8:30 PM last night, driving a 2010 dark blue Chevrolet Impala with New York license plate GDY-8262. He was wearing a flannel shirt, blue pants, and may be wearing a baseball hat that says Sidney on top. Anyone with information is asked to call State police at 561-7400 or at 911.
Hancock Fire and EMS responded to a report of flash flooding in the area of 5256 County Highway 28 Town of Hancock Saturday Night. A wedding with 130 people was in danger and subjects were advised to seek higher ground. The road covered in 1 to 1 ½ feet of rapidly moving water and impassible, swift water rescue resources by the Delaware County Emergency Services and the Deposit, Walton, and Sidney Swift Water Rescue Teams and boats, State Police responded. The water started to drop allowing responding personnel to gain access to the area of the wedding party. All 130 plus individuals were accounted for and safe on higher ground, they were assisted onto awaiting coach buses that had been provided for the wedding and driven to a safe location. Delaware County DPW cleared and reopened County Highway 28 shortly after. The bridge and lower part of Shea Road however were determined to be unsafe with extensive washouts noted. This area was closed off to travel.

A traffic stop by Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies in the Village of Delhi Thursday, led to the arrest of 52 year old Leland Liddle of Andes, Deputies discovered more than 30 bags of heroin in the vehicle. Liddle was charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance with intent to sell, failure to keep right, failing to notify the DMV of an address change & Endangering the Welfare of a Child. Investigators then executed a search warrant and also arrested 31-year-old Sean Dingle of Queens on charges of Criminal Possession and criminal sale of a Controlled Substance, Liddle and the child were observed in a vehicle waiting for Dingle in the Unadilla Fishing Access parking lot.. Liddle was arraigned in the Town of Sidney Court and was remanded to the Delaware County Jail on $250,000 cash bail pending further court action.

The Chenango County Sheriff’s Office arrested 34-year-old Jodi Babcock of Bainbridge, who was stopped for operating a suspended vehicle, aggravated unlicensed operation of a vehicle, and loud exhaust. During the course of the traffic stop hypodermic needles & heroin were found. Babcock is accused of possessing the heroin with intent to sell, she was also wanted on a bench warrant by the City of Norwich Court. Babcock was charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, along with vehicle and traffic violations. She was arraigned in the Town of Bainbridge Court and remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility on $5,000 cash bail. Lawyers for former State Senate Majority Leader Dean Skelos and his son Adam filed a motion in federal court requesting to have their convictions tossed out and a new trial granted. Both were convicted of bribery, extortion and conspiracy charges back on December 11th, Dean Skelos was found to have used his political influence to arrange payments and jobs for his son. They are scheduled to be sentenced on March 3rd.

Governor Cuomo signed legislation to expedite access to medicinal marijuana for New Yorkers suffering from serious health conditions. Cuomo also announced that he has ordered state health officials to review whether a new, broader medical marijuana program due to begin in January has enough production and dispensing sites to adequately serve the state. 20 sites are scheduled to open early next year. Fire investigators have determined that it was a lightning strike that hit the Sidney Federal Credit Union Main branch in Sidney. Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies arrested and charged a Delhi man with introducing dangerous prison contraband into the facility. On Saturday night Delaware County Correctional Facility intake officers conducting a search of a new inmate found Brayan Thompson of Delhi was in possession of a concealed belt buckle knife while being booked into the jail, on an unrelated Burglary charge, he was subsequently charged with Promoting Prison Contraband. Thompson was arraigned on the new charge, & was remanded to the Delaware County Correctional Facility on $2000 cash bail; he remains incarcerated pending future court appearances.

State Police at Sidney arrested 24 year old Bernadette Kalsky of Vestal for Aggravated DWI following an accident on I-88 In Bainbrdge. Troopers responded to a Chenango County 911 report of a one car motor vehicle accident on the Interstate, Kalsky struck a guiderail and drove off the road. Kalsky was not injured in the accident, she had a reported BAC content of .21, she was issued tickets returnable to the Town of Bainbridge Court on March 23rd.
