The Chenango County Sheriff’s Office has been made aware of a scam currently circulating, as Several county residents have reported receiving phone calls claiming they have an active warrant for their arrest and are instructed to pay a sum of money to have the matter “cleared up.” This is a scam, as the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office will never contact individuals by phone to demand payment.

Governor Kathy Hochul unveiled proposals to strengthen New York’s gun laws by cracking down on 3D-printed and illegal firearms. The new legislation would establish criminal penalties for the manufacture of 3D-printed firearms and order minimum safety standards for 3D printer manufacturers to block the production of firearms and firearm components. The legislation would also require gun manufacturers to design their pistols so they cannot be modified into illegal machine guns, and require police departments and sheriffs’ offices to report recoveries of all 3D printed guns to the state.

The Delaware County Sheriff’s Office has been officially awarded Civil Re-accreditation by the New York State Sheriffs’ Association for the period commencing October 2025, through October 2030. Sheriff DuMond told WCDO news what this means:

Delaware County Sheriffs Office arrested 43 year old James Clark of Stamford for Promoting Prison Contraband, Last Week members of the Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division investigated a report from Corrections personnel in which an incarcerated individual was found to be in possession of medication that he had diverted.  Clark was charged with Promoting Prison Contraband, Clark was later arraigned, where bail was set at $1,000 cash and $2,000 bond on the new charge. Clark was then remanded back to the custody of the Delaware County Jail on the original charges.

40 year old Jorge Cortina of Binghamton was sentenced to 8 years in State Prison, followed by 3 years of post-release supervision for his conviction of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance & 3 to 6 years in State Prison for his conviction of Criminal Possession of a Weapon and 364 days in the Broome County Jail for Criminally Using Drug Paraphernalia, with the sentences to run concurrently. Cortina was stopped in September 2024 in a motor vehicle in Binghamton by members of the Broome County Sheriffs Strategic Response Group, he was found to possess methamphetamine, a pistol, and a digital scale to weigh narcotics, he was found guilty of the charges in July in Broome County Court.

Delaware County Sheriffs Office received a report Friday of a threat made to an Insurance Company. 75 year old Robert Meredith of Andes, made multiple death threats to employees of the insurance company. Investigators found that Meredith was in possession of a semi-automatic pistol, he did not possess a State Pistol Permit. Meredith was charged with Criminal Possession of a Firearm, he was released on an appearance ticket returnable to Andes Town Court at a later date.

The Broome County Sheriff's Office announced that Applications are being accepted through April 1st for their annual summer camp for children from ages 9 through 12, for the weeks of June 29-July 5 and August 3-9. Children from economically challenged families and those who can benefit from positive interaction with deputy sheriffs should apply, Camp occurs at Keuka Lake in Penn Yan. Page 1 of the application packet is due on April 1st and the remaining 3 pages must be completed by a doctor, it is due by May 1st. Walton Fire and EMS Responded Tuesday Night at about 7:00 PM to a tractor trailer rollover approximately 2 miles North of the Village on State Highway 10. A fully loaded milk tanker carrying 38,000 pounds of milk had collided with guardrails and rolled onto its side, a NYSEG pole was broken and live wires were on the ground initially preventing responders from getting to the incident and driver. NYSEG responded and cleared the lives wires allowing safe access to the scene. The driver extricated himself from the cab of the truck through a window with assistance from a nearby homeowner, he was assessed by Walton EMS and transported to Delaware Valley Hospital for treatment of minor injuries. Traffic on State Highway 10 was diverted while the scene was cleared, the State DOT, DEC spill response, Delaware County Sheriffs Office and Delhi Fire Department assisted, the road reopened to all traffic and All units were back in service at 11:45 pm

Delaware County Sheriff's Office announced that Corporal Kyle Karcher, Deputy Justin Mohr, and Deputy Victor Altheim have been awarded the Deputy of the Year Award from the New York State Sheriffs' Institute. On September 4th, 2024, all three responded to a shots fired call in the Town of Hancock, They arrived on scene to find that a victim had been shot while walking his dog and had retreated into his residence with his girlfriend, as the perpetrator allegedly continued firing at their home.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies & the Delhi Police Department with a suspicious person/drug complaint in Delhi. The Delhi Police Department located 1 of the suspected vehicles, while Deputies located the second vehicle. Deputies located a quantity of Fentanyl, Methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia and a loaded handgun within the vehicle and on the occupants. Deputies arrested 29 year old Kenneth Dillmann of Stamford on various drug & weapons charges, plus Aggravated Unlicensed Operator, Also arrested was 23 year old Deanna Eignor of Delhi for various drug & weapons charges, Additionally, a third unidentified individual was arrested and charged with driving while ability is impaired by the use of drugs by the Delhi Police Department. All 3 were transported to the Delaware County Sheriffs Office to await the Centralized Processing Arraignment Court.

Delaware County Sheriffs Deputies stopped a motor vehicle in the Town of Hamden after observing the vehicle driving erratically and violating multiple sections of the vehicle and traffic law. Upon stopping the vehicle, it was determined that the operator, 18 year old Brandyn Santiago of Peekskill had been smoking marijuana in the vehicle, he was charged with driving while ability is impaired by the use of drugs, Smoking Marijuana in a Motor vehicle, failure to keep right and Speeding at 65 miles an hour in a 40 miles per hour zone. Santiago was subsequently released on appearance tickets and directed to appear at the Town of Hamden court at a later date to answer for the charge.

Otsego County Sheriffs arrested 47-year-old Timothy Stone of Cooperstown Friday, based on a report of physical child abuse at a residence in the Town of Middlefield. Further investigation revealed that Stone was involved in a domestic dispute with a pregnant juvenile, allegedly placing the juvenile in a choke-hold before throwing the victim on the floor, causing unknown injuries. Stone was located by Oneida County Sheriffs and taken into custody without further incident. Stone was charged with 3rd-degree Assault, Criminal Obstruction of Breathing, Endangering the Welfare of a Child, an order of protection has been requested on behalf of the victim.

Delaware County Sheriff's Office announced the arrest 31 year old inmate Rafael Frias for attempted assault. On October 15th, Investigators with the Delaware County Sheriffs Office received a complaint from the Correctional Facility of an assault between 2 inmates, they arrested Frias, he was arraigned at the Delaware County Centralized Arraignment Court, and was remanded back to the custody of Correctional Facility on other unrelated charges.

Delaware County Sheriffs Office Criminal Investigations Division received a complaint in April from Delaware County Probation Department that a person supervised by the Probation Department was suspected of communicating with underage children in a sexual manner. On July 3rd, the Division arrested and charged 27-year-old Dylan Brooks, of Hancock for 1 count of Disseminating Indecent Material to Minors, and 1 count of Endangering the Welfare of Child, Brooks is alleged to have violated his terms and conditions of probation by using an unauthorized phone and social media account to engage in conversations of a sexual nature with a 16-year-old child, proceeding to then send photos of a pornographic nature to the underage child. Brooks was released on an appearance ticket returnable to the Town of Hancock Court at a later date.

Governor Hochul announced the opening of the application period for $50 million in funding for law enforcement agencies across New York State. The funding will allow police departments and sheriffs’ offices outside of New York City to purchase new technology and equipment to modernize their operations, More information is available at criminaljustice.ny.gov. Last year's efforts resulted in 378 Law Enforcement Agencies Outside New York City receiving funding for technology upgrades.

Delaware County Sheriffs Deputies responded in December to an address in the Town of Franklin to assist the Delaware County Probation Office with a search of a residence. Deputies secured a quantity of drugs & paraphernalia from 43 year old Ryan Vandeusen of Franklin. Vandeusen was on Probation at the time of the possession, Vandeusen was charged with 2 counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance and criminally using drug paraphernalia, he was released on an appearance ticket returnable to Franklin Town Court at a later date.

The Delaware County Sheriff's Office arrested 27 year old Ford Bailey-Banks of Davenport for 2nd degree Burglary, criminal trespass. On March 5th, 2024, Sheriffs Deputies received a complaint that Bailey-Banks had entered onto another’s property and into dwelling, where he stole multiple items as well a firearm, he was transported to the Delaware County Sheriffs Office to await Centralized Arraignment Processing and will be scheduled to appear at the Town of Harpersfield Court at a later date to answer for the charges.

State Police arrested 25 year old Jesse Micha-Hurlburt of Bainbridge, for Endangering the Welfare of a Child, Disseminating Indecent Material of a Minor 2nd degree, Coercion and Unlawful Publication of an Intimate Image. On December 8, 2023, State Police received a report of an unknown individual requesting indecent material from a minor over text message and social media, he was arrested earlier this week, and was transported to Chenango County Jail.

Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 57 year old John Sheldrick of Edmeston following an investigation into a menacing complaint. Sheldrick was charged with Criminal Possession of a weapon, Menacing, Criminal Mischief & Aggravated Harassment, he was found to be in possession of a weapon, menacing the victim, intentionally damage the property of another and harassment, Sheldrick was held at the Otsego County Sheriffs Office, pending court action.

Delaware County Sheriff's Office announced that 34 year-old Krystynne Bliss of Sidney is facing a charge of Promoting Prison Contraband, On January 19th, members of the Delaware County Sheriffs Office Criminal Investigation Division received information that Bliss entered the Correctional Facility while in possession of with Schedule 3 controlled substance, Bliss was arraigned at the Delaware County Central Arraignment court and returned to the corrections facility on an earlier unrelated charge.

Delaware County Sheriff Craig DuMond has been elected as the President of the New York State Sheriffs' Association yesterday, with the ceremony at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Albany. The ceremony was attended by Governor Kathy Hochul to introduce Sheriff DuMond. In his new capacity, Sheriff DuMond will lead the New York State Sheriffs' Association in its mission to enhance the quality of law enforcement and public safety services throughout the state. His leadership is expected to bring forth collaboration, best practices, and advocacy for policies that bolster the essential work of law enforcement.

On December 3, 2023, Delaware County Sheriffs Deputies observed a vehicle in a field and observed a person running with a flashlight toward the vehicle. Deputies identified the person with the flashlight as the operator of the motor vehicle as 34 year old Michael Hunter of Walton, who is accused of driving while under the influence of alcohol, he was charged with DWI and moving from lane unsafely. The property that Hunter was on was owned by New York City Department of Environmental Protection, DEP Police charged Hunter with Trespass & Criminal Mischief, Hunter will appear in Andes Town Court at a later date.

Craig Ross Jr. has been charged kidnapping, 4 counts of predatory sexual assault against a child, plus sexual abuse, assault and endangering the welfare of a child, Ross was arrested after he allegedly abducted 9 year old Charlotte Sena Spetember 30th at Moreau Lake State Park in Saratoga County. Ross was indicted on the charges Friday, he was initially charged with 1st degree kidnapping when he was arrested days after the girl was riding her bike & went missing during a day at the park with family. Ross was found in a camper where he was staying, police found Sena in a cabinet, Ross is accused of raping the girl over the 2 day period. Ross pleaded not guilty in Saratoga County Court Friday, he is beign held in jail without bail since his arrest.

Delaware County Sheriffs Deputies received a Trespassing complaint in the Town of Davenport. The investigation revealed that 73 year old George Sydlar had called 911 3 times on July 6th and more than 20 times prior to report similar incidents which were all determined to be unfounded. Deputies arrested Sydlar for falsely reporting an incident, he was released on an appearance ticket to the Town of Davenport court at a later date.

The Town of Sidney Highway Department announced that Back River Road will be closed from Rte 357 to Exit 10 starting June 26th thru June 28th. It will also be closed July 5th and July 6th for paving, area motorists are advised to use other local roads during the work periods.

Delaware County Sheriffs Office Criminal Investigation Division received information that inmate Derek Wignall of Hancock repetitively violated a County Court Order of Protection while incarcerated at the Delaware County Jail, prior to his release from the Correctional Facility. At the completion of their investigation, Officers located and arrested Wignall in the Village of Hancock, he is charged with Aggravated Criminal Contempt, he was arraigned and was remanded to the Delaware County Jail in lieu of $15,000 bail. Wignall is scheduled to re- appear at Delhi Town Court at a later date to answer the charges.

Delaware County District Attorney's Office announced that 31 year old Courtni Baker of Sidney was arraigned today on Grand Jury Charges in Delaware County Court . A Grand Jury handed up a 10 count indictment, including charges of vehicular assault, Aggravated vehicular assault, 2nd degree Assault, And Escape, for the February 15th incident where Baker is accused of Hitting 14 year old Anielle AK McEwan Lomnicki on Sharon Street in Sidney as she was walking home from school. Baker is accused of driving while intoxicated at the time of the incident, with a BAC of higher than .18, she is being held in the Delaware County Jail on $100,000 cash bail, $250,000 secured bond or $1 Million Dollars Partially Secured bond.

About a dozen people were arrested at a protest at the Johnson City Wegman's Parking lot last night. People were protesting the police brutality cases of Tyre Nichols in Memphis & the Hamail Waddell keeling incident by Binghamton Police January 1st. Police from the Johnson City, Binghamton and Endicott Police departments, as well as the Broome County sheriffs Deputies and State Troopers responded.

Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies arrested 66 year old Dzemil Mujanovic of Meredith for Criminal Possession of a Weapon and Criminal Contempt. Deputies received information June 17th that Mujanovic was in possession of several long guns that he failed to surrender to Sheriffs Deputies as stipulated in a Family Court Order of protection. Deputies determined that Mujanovic was in possession 7 long guns, which were taken from his residence, he was released on an appearance ticket returnable to the Meredith Town Court at a later date.
