State Police at Troop C responded today to the report of a vehicle with a windshield that shattered due to ice falling off of a tractor trailer on I-81. An investigation determined that a tractor trailer and a pick-up truck were traveling north on I-81 when a slab of ice flew off the tractor trailer and fell onto the pick-up behind it, the pick-up truck’s driver side front window and windshield were shattered, the driver tractor trailer did not stop, the operator of the pick-up truck, a 23-year-old male of Camden suffered hand and facial injuries, State Police remind Motorists to brush off snow and ice off their vehicles, The investigation is on-going.

The Binghamton Rumble Ponies announced the full 2026 Promotional Schedule for the 2026 season today. There will be 15 giveaways, 12 firework shows, 7 specialty jerseys, 3 appearances and a newly introduced drone show. Individual game tickets for the 2026 season will go on sale Monday, at 9 am online and in-person at the Visions FCU Starting Gate Box Office at Mirabito Stadium. The Rumble Ponies kick off the 2026 season in New Hampshire on April 3rd before returning home on April 7th to take on the Somerset Patriots.

The Otsego County Sheriff’s Office arrested 49 year old Kunga Gyamtso following an investigation of a sexual assault that occurred in the Town of Hartwick. Gyamtso is accused of subjecting a female victim to unwanted forcible sexual acts at his residence in the Town of Hartwick. Evidence was presented to the Otsego County Grand Jury which handed down an indictment for the arrest, for Rape & Criminal Sexual Act, Gyamtso was arraigned in the Otsego County Court and remanded to the Otsego County Correctional Facility on $40,000 cash bail or $400,000 partially secured bond. The Otsego County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Vestal Police Department. .

State Police will be hosting a free child car seat check on Sunday, February 1, between 10 am. and 1 pm. at the Delhi Fire Department located at 140 Delview Terrace Ext. Delhi. Techs will Make sure your child’s car seat is properly installed and the right fit for their age, height and weight, they will check the car seat if there are any recalls and check its expiration. State Law requires that all children must be restrained in an appropriate child restraint system while riding in a motor vehicle until they reach their 8th birthday. Binghamton University Junior Jesse Findling of Massapequa Long Island earned a Golden Ticket to Hollywood after auditioning for American Idol's 24th Season. Findling received a standing ovation from judges Lionel Richie, Carrie Underwood & Luke Bryan, his audition aired Monday on ABC, the "Hollywood Week" performances will air February 23rd.

36 year old John Pierre Regazzi of Delhi pleaded guilty to Assault, Forcible Touching and Criminal Contempt in Delaware County Court Wednesday, where he appeared for his scheduled pre-trial hearings. A jury trial was scheduled to commence on February 9, but Regazzi decided to enter a guilty plea, he will be sentenced to 5 years in state prison, to be followed by 3 years of post-release supervision, he will also be required to register as a sex offender for at least 20 years upon his release from state prison, and there will be a final order of protection in favor of the female victim. After pleading guilty, Judge Rosa remanded Regazzi back to the Delaware County Correctional Facility pending sentencing on April 1.

State Lawmakers have had a little over a week to look over Governor Hochul's Executive State Budget proposal, Assemblyman Joe Angelino comments:

Lawmakers have until April 1st to get the budget passed in time for the start of the next fiscal year.

Chobani announced that they awarded $400,000 in grants to 40 nonprofit groups through the eighth annual Community Impact Fund. The grants will go to organizations in Central New York, Idaho, Philadelphia and Muskegon Michigan. Locally, the Afton Central Schools will use the funds to build a greenhouse for agricultural education and to supply fresh produce for the FFA Food Pantry. The Food Bank of Central New York will support its Senior Grocery Program, the Norwich City School District will expand its backpack program, the Oneonta Middle School will provide grocery gift cards to families throughout the year, and the Cooperstown Food Pantry will use its grant to offer year-round farmers market vouchers, SNAP matching and CSA shares from regional farms.

U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand discussed her dairy priorities for the upcoming 2023 Farm Bill negotiations. Gillibrand said she will reintroduce her Dairy Pricing Opportunity Act, to change Class I milk pricing by requiring the United States Department of Agriculture to hold national hearings to review Federal Milk Marketing Orders.

Senator Gillibrand will pushing Canada to uphold its dairy trade obligations as part of the U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement, currently Canada is not allowing American Dairy Farmers to import their product into Canada.

It was a Basketball Homecoming for Hancock resident Laycee Drake at Binghamton University, Drake plays for The University of Maryland Baltimore County Retrievers, they took on the Lady Bearcats in Binghamton last night, WCDO Sports Director Nate Lull said that drake received tremendous local support last night:

Drake graduated from Hancock on 2021 and finished her High School Career with over 1800 points, she scored 11 point last night, but Binghamton won the game 80-70.

Several area Fire Departments responded to a structure fire at 440 St. John Road in Afton early this morning. The fire was mainly confined to the 1st floor, there was smoke & heat damage to parts of the 2nd floor, 1 unconscious occupant was removed & was taken to Wilson Hospital. Firefighters from Afton, Harpursville, Greene, Bainbridge & Coventry Responded, the cause of the fire is under investigation.

Governor Hochul unveiled a $227 Billion Dollar Executive Budget proposal yesterday in Albany. The Budget contains a $1 Billion Plan to Fix New York State's Mental Health Care, a pledge Not To Raise Income Taxes, the New York Housing Compact Will Build 800,000 New Homes, to Address Statewide Housing Shortage, a $337 Million Investment Aimed at Reducing Gun Violence, $5.5 Billion to Promote sustainable Energy, more information is available at budget.ny.gov.

About a dozen people were arrested at a protest at the Johnson City Wegman's Parking lot last night. People were protesting the police brutality cases of Tyre Nichols in Memphis & the Hamail Waddell keeling incident by Binghamton Police January 1st. Police from the Johnson City, Binghamton and Endicott Police departments, as well as the Broome County sheriffs Deputies and State Troopers responded.

The State Department of Labor announced that the number of private sector jobs in the State increased by 3,700 to 8,063,000 in October. The State's unemployment rate increased .1% to 4.4% in October. The number of private sector jobs is back up to where it was prior to the start of the pandemic in March 2020.

The Tri-County Seniors is partnering with Delaware Opportunities to collect gift items for senior citizens in need this holiday season. The collections began this week & will run through Monday, November 28, with collection boxes at the Tri-County Senior Center in the Sidney Civic Center, Conklin Fashions in Bainbridge, Sidney Memorial Public Library and Trackside Dining in Sidney, and Jess F. Howes Building Supplies in Sidney Center. Suggested items to donate include calendars, stamps, scarves, gloves, books, crosswords, socks, toiletries, flashlights, small blankets, and gift cards, the items will be distributed to seniors through the Delaware Opportunities home meal delivery program.

Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies arrested a Walton resident for driving while intoxicated after Deputies observed a vehicle traveling at around 80 miles per hour on State Hwy 206 in the Town of Walton. 22 year old Dakota Nichols of Walton was charged with DWI, driving with a .08% or more of alcohol, & Speeding, Nichols faces court action at a later date.

Governor Cuomo announced that flags on state government buildings would be flown at half-staff on Sunday, September 11. The Flags will be flown in remembrance of the nearly 3,000 people who lost their lives in the 2001 terrorist attacks.

State Police at Norwich arrested 20-year-old Jacob Burrell, 18-year-old Melissa Land, & 18-year-old Kayla VanPelt, 18, all of New Berlin, for 2nd degree burglary. Troopers were advised of a burglary at a home on Hemlock Hill Drive in the Town of Columbus in July. Burrell is accused of damaging a window to gain entry; all 3 allegedly entered & stole liquor. Burrell, Land and VanPelt were arraigned in the Town of Norwich court and were released; they face court action in the Town of Columbus shortly.

State Police arrested 50-year-old Michael Silver of Franklin for criminal mischief, after Troopers responded to a dispute at a home on State Route 357 in the Town of Franklin. Silver is accused of smashing the victim's front windshield of her vehicle with a baseball bat, as she was driving away, following a dispute. Silver was arraigned in the Town of Franklin court and was remanded to the Delaware County jail on $1,500 cash bail or $3,000 property bond.

Cal Harris will appear In Oneonta Town Court on October13th, to answer to charges for allegedly stalking a State Police Investigator who testified in Harris's most recent Murder trial in Schoharie County Court earlier this year. Harris was sentenced in Owego earlier this week in a separate case, for harassing an unidentified student at a SUNY Broome Satellite class in Tioga County in 2015. Harris was freed following his 4th trial earlier this year, after being accused & convicted twice of killing his estranged Wife Michelle in 2001, 2 convictions were overturned on appeal, the 3rd murder trial ended with a hung jury, his last trial ended with his being released of murder charges.

The dedication of Miller Park in Oneonta will take place on Tuesday at 11:00 AM. The park is located at the intersection of the Lettis Highway & Main Street in Oneonta, to honor the former Mayor of Oneonta & Hartwick college president Dick Miller, who took his own life in October of 2014.

The Family of former State Assembly Minority Leader Clarence "Rapp" Rappleyea has announced calling hours & funeral services. Rappleyea died on September 4th at the age of 82, Friends are invited to call at the NorthEast Classic car Museum from 4:00 p.m. -8:00 PM today. A Celebration of Life for Rapp will be held at the Car Museum at 11:00 AM Saturday. Private burial services will immediately follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Norwich. Another Celebration of Rapp's life will be held at 1:00 pm on Monday at the Terrace Gallery, at the New York State Museum in the Empire State Plaza in Albany. Governor Cuomo signed legislation to expedite access to medicinal marijuana for New Yorkers suffering from serious health conditions. Cuomo also announced that he has ordered state health officials to review whether a new, broader medical marijuana program due to begin in January has enough production and dispensing sites to adequately serve the state. 20 sites are scheduled to open early next year. The governor said that the drug would be dispensed to eligible patients as soon as practicable, he also said that the state will abide by standards from the U.S. Justice Department to ensure that New York’s program does not trigger enforcement actions by the federal government.

The Delaware county recycling facility has been in operation fro a full year, accepting a lot more plastic & other items for recycling, according to Delaware County Solid waste Coordinator director Sue McIntyre:

McIntyre said that the revenue generated from the #3 to 7 Plastics is marginal, but she said that there is a market for all of the items coming in to the recycling facility, and an added bonus of NOT having those items winding up in the landfill or the comporting facility.

State Police received a report from a resident in Roxbury, that an X-Acto knife type razor blade was found inside a sealed bag of Sour Skittles which had been obtained while Trick or Treating. The candy was not opened until opened on November 9th; it has been traced back to the purchase point of the CVS Pharmacy in Margaretville. The investigation has not been able to identify the source of the razor blade and parents all over the region are recommended to thoroughly check all candy prior to consumption.

State Police have recently received several reports of telephone callers claiming to be from the IRS that aggressively demand the resident pay money to clear up an outstanding tax debt, or face criminal charges. The public is being advised that the IRS does not make phone calls in this manner, and anyone receiving a telephone call of this nature should check with the local IRS office.

The New York State Office of General Services announced a surplus vehicle, highway equipment, and miscellaneous property auction will be held today in Binghamton, however the previously scheduled auction in Unadilla was cancelled and will not be rescheduled. Attorney General Eric Schneiderman issued cease-and-desist letters to daily fantasy sports wagering sites DraftKings and FanDuel Tuesday, to immediately stop accepting wagers inside New York. The action follows an investigation that found DraftKings and FanDuel violated State law against illegal gambling. The investigation found that both companies consistently use deceptive advertising to lure consumers into an unregulated online gambling operation that, while marketed as a game that anyone can win. Both companies deliberately target demographics susceptible to problem gambling.

The Chenango Arts Council announced the acceptance of Request for Proposals from New York State artists for exhibition in the Mariea Brown and Raymond Loft Galleries, located in CAC facilities at 27 West Main Street, Norwich. Governor Cuomo announced that his administration is raising the minimum wage for state workers to $15 an hour. Approximately 10,000 state employees will be benefited by the Governor’s action, about 9,000 employees are outside of New York City. The change will be phased in on July 1, 2021.
