A Windsor man is facing felony charges after attempting to break into a residence and being tracked down in the snow by Broome County Sheriff’s Deputies in the Town of Chenango. On Tuesday evening, Road Patrol responded to a burglar alarm on Russell Road, members noticed that the back door of the residence had been forced open, they eventually found footprints in the snow, they found 42 year old Scott Evanchof of Windsor wearing boots that matched the footprints, he admitted that he attempted to break into the residence & was charged with Burglary & Criminal Mischief, he was arraigned Following arraignment, Evanchof was remanded to the Broome County Correctional Facility, where he is currently in custody.

Chenango County Sheriff's Office arrested 26 year old Kayla Van Pelt of Otsego County, for Grand Larceny and Conspiracy. A larceny complaint was filed by a business in the Village of Sherburne, where Van Pelt and two other suspects acted together and stole over one thousand dollars in merchandise. Van Pelt was taken into custody at a residence in Otsego County, transported to the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office to be processed, she was released on an appearance ticket for Village of Sherburne Court at a later date. More arrests are expected to be made.

33 year old Shaun Carman of Walton pleaded guilty to Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in Delaware County Court last week. Carman admitted that on March 13th, in the Village of Delhi, he possessed a quantity of fentanyl with the intent to sell it, he will be sentenced to 2 years in state prison, followed by 1 year of post release supervision, he was remanded to the Delaware County Correctional Facility pending final sentencing on December 16th.
41 year old Brian Canfield of Greene appeared in Delaware County Court for sentencing for Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs. Back on February 17th, Sidney police observed a vehicle parked and running with headlights on at the Sidney Memorial Public Library after the library was closed, a male was slumped over in the driver’s seat. Canfield failed the Standard Field Sobriety Testing, & drug paraphernalia was found in the vehicle, Canfield admitted that he was under the influence of Amphetamine, Methamphetamine, and Fentanyl. Canfield was sentenced to 5 years’ felony probation, if he violates the conditions of his probation, he is subject to being re-sentenced to 1 and 1/3 to 4 years in State Prison.

Chenango County Sheriff's Office arrested 42 year old Lori Devine & 45 year old Aaron Morgan of Sherburne for multiple counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance and Criminal Use of Drug Paraphernalia, after an investigation into drug activity. Detectives accuse Devine and Morgan of selling Methamphetamine from their apartment in the Village of Sherburne. A search warrant was obtained & Methamphetamine, digital scales, packaging material, US currency, and other items were located & seized, Devine and Morgan were processed and were released on appearance tickets, they are due to appear in the Village of Sherburne Court at a later date.

On Sunday night, Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a one car motor vehicle accident with entrapment on State Highway 357, in the town of Sidney. Deputies arrived on scene and observed that the vehicle left the roadway, struck an embankment, causing the vehicle to rollover, then coming to rest off of the roadway. Deputies made contact with the driver, 65-year-old Lawrence Peloso of Mount Upton. Deputies charged Peloso with DWI, driving with a BAC greater than 0.08%, Moving from lane unsafely, and Speed not Reasonable and Prudent, Peloso was released on tickets returnable to the Town of Sidney Court at a later date.

State Police responded Wednesday to an SUV Rollover accident on Frost Hill Road in the town of Plainfield, where the vehicle driven by 28 year old Amber Brown of Rome went off the roadway, struck an embankment and partially overturned. 3 year old Amina Estrada was pronounced dead at the scene, 2 adults & 4 children in the Estrada family were taken to Saint Elizabeth Hospital in Utica for further medical care. The accident is still under investigation.

Assemblyman Joseph Angelino announced $25,000 in funding to the Four County Library System to support libraries within the 122nd Assembly District. The most recent state budget allowed each legislator to submit aid requests on behalf libraries within their districts. The Sidney Memorial Public Library will receive $5,000, to purchase new technology items such as virtual reality headsets and a 3D printer. Other area libraries will receive $1,111 each, including Afton, Bainbridge, Deposit, Franklin, Gilbertsville, New Berlin, the Guernsey Memorial Library in Norwich, plus Oxford, South New Berlin, Unadilla, & the Ogden Free Library in Walton.
Delaware County Sheriff's Office announced the arrest of Deposit man on an arrest warrant issued by the Delaware County Family Court, for a violation of the Family Court Act. 47 year-old Patrick Stanton of Deposit was located On December 10th, by Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies, along with members of the Broome County Sheriff's Office, at a Village of Deposit location. Stanton was remanded to the Delaware County Correctional Facility without bail & is scheduled to appear at the Delaware County Family Court at a later date to answer the charge.

Police seized 6 handguns, 18 rifles or shotguns, 4 of which had no serial numbers, 41 high-capacity magazines, and parts for the manufacture of AR15 assault rifles and Over 18,000 rounds of assorted ammunition. 35 year old Jordan O’Neill of Sidney was taken into custody Thursday; his prior felony conviction prohibited him from possessing firearms. O'Neill was charged with 1 count of 1st degree Criminal possession of a weapon & 41 counts of 3rd degree Criminal possession of a weapon, he was arraigned in Village of Sidney Court where he was remanded to the Delaware County jail on $125,000 cash bail or $250,000 Bond. The investigation is continuing & more charges & arrests are expected.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies and members of the Andes Fire Department responded to a 911 report of a two car motor vehicle accident on Main Street in the Village of Andes on July 5th. 38-year-old Gleb Temkin of Andes lost control of his vehicle and struck a legally parked vehicle, he is accused of operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated at the time of the accident, he was charged with DWI, refusal to take a breath screening test, failure to keep right, among other charges, Temkin was released & will appear in the Town of Andes Court on a later date.

Morton of Fayetteville, for the theft of a motor vehicle from the Village of

Otsego County Sheriff's Department arrested 22 year old John
Morton of Fayetteville, for the theft of a motor vehicle from the Village of
Cooperstown on December 1st. Police were
called to Stewart's following the complaint by a patron that when she returned
to her car from inside the store, her vehicle was gone; she did leave the car
unlocked with it running. State Police
located the vehicle on State Route 28 in Richfield Springs, Morton was charged
with 3rd degree Grand Larceny, & 2 counts of Petty Larceny, he was
arraigned & remanded to the Otsego County Jail on $2000 cash bail or $4,000
bond pending future court action.

Hartwick College will host its First Year Seminar Symposium
today 4:00 to 5:30 PM in the Library at Yager Hall. The event, which is free
and open to the public, will provide an opportunity for first-year students to
show off their work, ranging from research about political change to displays
of visual and performing arts. Appetizers, desserts, and beverages will be available
for all participants and guests.
