Sidney Village Crews announced that Division Street between Main Street & Grand are closed today & tomorrow as Crews are removing the bump outs at the intersection of Main & Division, Sidney Mayor Ray Baker explains:

The crews will be installing a more traditional corner on the West Side of the Main & Division Street intersection, which should be completed by Thursday afternoon.

The State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation announced today that 6 local governments will receive grant funds to support community historic preservation projects. Locally, the Village of Cooperstown, will receive $40,000 in Grants, they will partner with the Landmark Society of Western New York to host the 2026 Statewide Preservation Conference at the Otesaga Hotel & Resort.

A Windsor man is facing felony charges after attempting to break into a residence and being tracked down in the snow by Broome County Sheriff’s Deputies in the Town of Chenango. On Tuesday evening, Road Patrol responded to a burglar alarm on Russell Road, members noticed that the back door of the residence had been forced open, they eventually found footprints in the snow, they found 42 year old Scott Evanchof of Windsor wearing boots that matched the footprints, he admitted that he attempted to break into the residence & was charged with Burglary & Criminal Mischief, he was arraigned Following arraignment, Evanchof was remanded to the Broome County Correctional Facility, where he is currently in custody.

The Otsego County Sheriff’s announces the arrest of 31 year old Marcus Borggreen & 26 year old Destiny Grant both of Mt. Upton, following a trespass complaint in the Town of Westford. Deputies were dispatched to a residence for a report of 2 subjects, they were located inside the basement of the residence, and were detained and were in possession of MDMA, narcotic drugs, and several weapons. the pair are facing numerous drug & weapons charges & were transported to the Sheriff’s Office and were turned over to the Jail to be held for Arraignment.

The Sidney Memorial Library & libraries around the state are participating in the “Great Give Back,” back Saturday. K9 Chase replaces K9 Riggs who was retired as a police dog this month, but will continue to live with Officer Terry's family, the program has no cost to taxpayers and Chase will be ready for his position in February.

Chenango County Sheriff's Office arrested 26 year old Kayla Van Pelt of Otsego County, for Grand Larceny and Conspiracy. A larceny complaint was filed by a business in the Village of Sherburne, where Van Pelt and two other suspects acted together and stole over one thousand dollars in merchandise. Van Pelt was taken into custody at a residence in Otsego County, transported to the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office to be processed, she was released on an appearance ticket for Village of Sherburne Court at a later date. More arrests are expected to be made.

The Harris Memorial Library in Otego will host their annual "Silver Tea" Sunday at 1:00 PM. Winners for the raffle will be announced for those who purchased tickets in the last 4 weeks.

33 year old Shaun Carman of Walton pleaded guilty to Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in Delaware County Court last week. Carman admitted that on March 13th, in the Village of Delhi, he possessed a quantity of fentanyl with the intent to sell it, he will be sentenced to 2 years in state prison, followed by 1 year of post release supervision, he was remanded to the Delaware County Correctional Facility pending final sentencing on December 16th.

41 year old Brian Canfield of Greene appeared in Delaware County Court for sentencing for Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs. Back on February 17th, Sidney police observed a vehicle parked and running with headlights on at the Sidney Memorial Public Library after the library was closed, a male was slumped over in the driver’s seat. Canfield failed the Standard Field Sobriety Testing, & drug paraphernalia was found in the vehicle, Canfield admitted that he was under the influence of Amphetamine, Methamphetamine, and Fentanyl. Canfield was sentenced to 5 years’ felony probation, if he violates the conditions of his probation, he is subject to being re-sentenced to 1 and 1/3 to 4 years in State Prison.

Brian Canfield of Greene pleaded guilty to Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs in Delaware County Court Wednesday. Canfield appeared in Delaware County Court for a conference on his pending indictment, On February 17, 2024, Sidney Police Officer Royce Terry observed a motor vehicle parked in the library parking lot after it was closed, with Canfield slumped over the steering wheel, and the engine was running, Canfield was under the influence of Methamphetamine and Fentanyl. Canfield will be sentenced to 5 years of felony probation supervision, he faces sentencing on September 23rd.

About 30 residents from Morris and surrounding towns met at the Morris Firehouse on May 23 for a follow-up to the news that Sidney Federal Credit Union intends to establish banking services in the Village of Morris. On Saturday, the Legion Riders will be hosting a ride to raise money at $20.00 a bike starting at 9:00 AM, The rest of the activities get underway at about 11:00 Saturday at the legion with food, bands, a corn hole tournament & about 50 raffle baskets, with proceeds going to help with Rowan's medical expenses.

The Sidney High School Flood Monitoring Team will be giving a special presentation for the public in the Smart Community Room at the Sidney Memorial Public Library Today at 6:00PM. Chenango County Sheriff's Office arrested 42 year old Lori Devine & 45 year old Aaron Morgan of Sherburne for multiple counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance and Criminal Use of Drug Paraphernalia, after an investigation into drug activity. Detectives accuse Devine and Morgan of selling Methamphetamine from their apartment in the Village of Sherburne. A search warrant was obtained & Methamphetamine, digital scales, packaging material, US currency, and other items were located & seized, Devine and Morgan were processed and were released on appearance tickets, they are due to appear in the Village of Sherburne Court at a later date.

Governor Kathy Hochul announced that beginning on Monday, April 1, New York State veterans and Gold Star Families will have free access to New York State parks, campgrounds, day use areas, historic sites, and recreation areas through the expansion of the Lifetime Liberty Pass Program. Townsend said that they are also looking for additional sources of funding, as many of the other revenues streams & grants are no longer available. The presentation on the 27th will begin at 6:00 PM.

On Sunday night, Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a one car motor vehicle accident with entrapment on State Highway 357, in the town of Sidney. Deputies arrived on scene and observed that the vehicle left the roadway, struck an embankment, causing the vehicle to rollover, then coming to rest off of the roadway. Deputies made contact with the driver, 65-year-old Lawrence Peloso of Mount Upton. Deputies charged Peloso with DWI, driving with a BAC greater than 0.08%, Moving from lane unsafely, and Speed not Reasonable and Prudent, Peloso was released on tickets returnable to the Town of Sidney Court at a later date.

State Police at Norwich arrested 37 year old Michael Salamey of Frankfort, in connection with a renovation at home in Chenango County. Salamey was charged with 2 counts of 3rd degree Grand Larceny, Scheming to Defraud & Petty Larceny. Salamey is accused of entering into a contract for $33,000 to complete improvements to a home in the village of Sherburne, he did not finish the work and also stopped communicating with the homeowners. Additionally, Salamey is accused of failing to pay a surveyor & Sub Contractor, he was arraigned in the Norwich City Court and is scheduled to appear at the Sherburne Village Court on November 16, 2023.

The Sidney Democratic Committee is holding a Meet and Greet for Deirdre Hay, who is running on the Democratic line for NY State Supreme Court Justice for the 6th Judicial District, in the upcoming November 7th general election. Hay will meet with area residents at 6:30 in the Sidney Library Smart Community Room tonight. Hay is running for the seat against Republican candidate Cheryl Insinga. Also, Democratic Sidney Town Board Candidate Kevin Greene will also be participating.

Delaware County Sheriff's Office announced the arrest of 30-year-old Michael Vogel of Delhi. On December 27th, Deputies picked up Vogel at the Village of Sidney Police Department, he was arrested on the Bench Warrant for failure to appear. Vogel was arraigned & was released on his own recognizance, he was ordered to appear in court at a later date.

Chenango County Sheriff's Office arrested 50 year old Andrew Frank Jr and 49 year old Rena Jones of Sherburne following a lengthy investigation & the execution of a search warrant. Frank and Jones were arrested on numerous counts of 3rd Degree Burglary and Criminal Mischief, for allegedly breaking into local businesses and stealing money and damaging property. Frank was arraigned and was remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility with no bail. Jones was released on an appearance ticket for Village of Sherburne Court on a later date. The investigation is still on going and more charges are pending.

The Sidney Central School District announced that the Observatory will be closed tonight, due to inclement weather.

State Police responded Wednesday to an SUV Rollover accident on Frost Hill Road in the town of Plainfield, where the vehicle driven by 28 year old Amber Brown of Rome went off the roadway, struck an embankment and partially overturned. 3 year old Amina Estrada was pronounced dead at the scene, 2 adults & 4 children in the Estrada family were taken to Saint Elizabeth Hospital in Utica for further medical care. The accident is still under investigation.

This Sunday would have been the 7th birthday of Trinity O'Connor of Sidney, the little girl who died from cancer earlier this year. The Trinity O'Connor Foundation will celebrate her birthday Sunday at 4:00 PM at Keith Clark Park, spokesperson Kim Ayres explains:

U.S. Senate Majority Leader Charles Schumer announced that Upstate New York will receive over $50 million in federal funding through the first round of the EPA's Clean School Bus Program to purchase over 130 brand new electric school buses. Locally, the Downsville central School District will receive over $395,000 for the purchase of 1 new electric school bus.

In Bainbridge this year, a community Halloween Party Trunk or Treat will be held in the Village parking lot behind Bob's Diner, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM. In Unadilla, Trick or Treating with a costume parade will be held at the Unadilla Elementary School starting at 6:30 PM.

Assemblyman Joseph Angelino announced $25,000 in funding to the Four County Library System to support libraries within the 122nd Assembly District. The most recent state budget allowed each legislator to submit aid requests on behalf libraries within their districts. The Sidney Memorial Public Library will receive $5,000, to purchase new technology items such as virtual reality headsets and a 3D printer. Other area libraries will receive $1,111 each, including Afton, Bainbridge, Deposit, Franklin, Gilbertsville, New Berlin, the Guernsey Memorial Library in Norwich, plus Oxford, South New Berlin, Unadilla, & the Ogden Free Library in Walton.

Delaware County Sheriff's Office announced the arrest of Deposit man on an arrest warrant issued by the Delaware County Family Court, for a violation of the Family Court Act. 47 year-old Patrick Stanton of Deposit was located On December 10th, by Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies, along with members of the Broome County Sheriff's Office, at a Village of Deposit location. Stanton was remanded to the Delaware County Correctional Facility without bail & is scheduled to appear at the Delaware County Family Court at a later date to answer the charge.

Village of Sidney Police Department responded to a complaint of a burglary in progress on River Street Wednesday. Officers responded to the area and arrested 29 year old Bradly Falkenmeyer of Sidney for 3rd degree Burglary, Criminal mischief & Petty larceny. Falkenmeyer was arraigned in Village of Sidney Court where he was remanded to the Delaware County Jail with no option of bail.

State Senator Peter Oberacker announced that community libraries throughout the 51st senatorial district have been awarded a total of nearly $300,000 in public library construction grant funds. The grants are from $14 million in capital funds for public library construction and broadband infrastructure projects provided in the current state budget. Locally, the Edmeston Free Library will receive over $92,000 for 3 projects, the Kinney Memorial Library in Hartwick will receive $9,000 for a roofing project, & the Sidney Memorial Public Library will receive over $32,000 to renovate the parking lot.

Sidney Police Department assisted a Department of Homeland Security Investigation unit to execute a federal search warrant at 243 Johnston Circle in the Village of Sidney into the illegal possession and manufacture of firearms.  Police seized 6 handguns, 18 rifles or shotguns, 4 of which had no serial numbers, 41 high-capacity magazines, and parts for the manufacture of AR15 assault rifles and Over 18,000 rounds of assorted ammunition.  35 year old Jordan O’Neill of Sidney was taken into custody Thursday; his prior felony conviction prohibited him from possessing firearms. O'Neill was charged with 1 count of 1st degree Criminal possession of a weapon & 41 counts of 3rd degree Criminal possession of a weapon, he was arraigned in Village of Sidney Court where he was remanded to the Delaware County jail on $125,000 cash bail or $250,000 Bond. The investigation is continuing & more charges & arrests are expected.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies and members of the Andes Fire Department responded to a 911 report of a two car motor vehicle accident on Main Street in the Village of Andes on July 5th.  38-year-old Gleb Temkin of Andes lost control of his vehicle and struck a legally parked vehicle, he is accused of operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated at the time of the accident, he was charged with DWI, refusal to take a breath screening test, failure to keep right, among other charges, Temkin was released & will appear in the Town of Andes Court on a later date.

The Rotary Club of Sidney and the Cullman Developmental Center are teaming up to create a series of events for area children this summer, the 1st is this Sunday at Sidney Veterans Memorial Park from 1:00 to 3:00 PM, with the Family of Heroes Event,  Rotary Spokesman Larry Halbert explains;

The American Red Cross announced that there is a severe Blood Shortage currently.  Blood drives will be held on Saturday at the Oxford American Legion, from 7:30 AM to 12:30 PM, The Guernsey Memorial Library in Norwich on Tuesday July 13th from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM and at CWS on East Main Street in Norwich on Wednesday July 21st from 8:00 AM to 1:00 PM, registration is available at redcrossblood.org.

Village of Delhi Police Department arrested 28-year-old Andrew Kreger for Reckless Driving, Endangering the Welfare of a Child and Improper Passing. Kreger was released on appearance tickets returnable to the Delhi Town Court at a later date.

State Police responded Tuesday Night to the Perch Pond Cemetery on Nabinger Hill Road in Colesville for a report of a vehicle that struck a tree. 20 Year old Joshua Klee of Nineveh was the only occupant and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Sidney Village offices are now open regular hours, Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM.  Village Board Meetings are now open to the public, masks must be worn.  The Village also announced that the playground at Keith Clark Park is open, it will be disinfected 3 times a day, a schedule is posted at the playground, all other playgrounds around the village are still closed.

The Sidney Library is now open by appointment only, at 563-1200, the Masonville & Sidney Center Libraries will remain closed until July 7th.

The State Board on Electric Generation Siting and the Environment will meet today at 10:30 AM to consider petitions for rehearing of the Siting Board’s December 2019 approval of Bluestone Wind, LLC’s application for Certificate of Environmental Compatibility and Public Need to build and operate a 124-megawatt wind facility in the Towns of Windsor and Sanford.   The parties seeking rehearing are Delaware-Otsego Audubon Society, Broome County Concerned Residents and a resident of the Village of Johnson City. Bluestone Wind applied to construct and operate 27 wind turbines & its associated network, to reduce the potential spread of the COVID-19 virus, member of the public will be able to listen at dps.ny.gov/Webcasts.

Governor Cuomo announced an update on the status of testing
for the coronavirus in New York State.
Samples from 17 New Yorkers have been sent to the CDC for testing, 11
have come back negative, and 6 samples are pending. There are still no
confirmed cases of coronavirus in New York State yet.  A hotline has been set up for New Yorkers to
call at 1-888-364-3065, where experts from the Department of Health can answer

Otsego County Sheriff's Department arrested 22 year old John
Morton of Fayetteville, for the theft of a motor vehicle from the Village of
Cooperstown on December 1st.  Police were
called to Stewart's following the complaint by a patron that when she returned
to her car from inside the store, her vehicle was gone; she did leave the car
unlocked with it running.   State Police
located the vehicle on State Route 28 in Richfield Springs, Morton was charged
with 3rd degree Grand Larceny, & 2 counts of Petty Larceny, he was
arraigned & remanded to the Otsego County Jail on $2000 cash bail or $4,000
bond pending future court action.

Hartwick College will host its First Year Seminar Symposium

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 31 year old
Alycia Possemato of Guilford for Attempted Assault & Criminal Obstruction
of Breathing or Blood Circulation, following a domestic dispute at the Delaware
County Fair. Possemato was arraigned and remanded to the Delaware County
Correctional Facility on $1,000 cash bail pending action in Village of Walton
Court on a later date.
