Chenango County Sheriff's Office arrested 50 year old Andrew Frank Jr and 49 year old Rena Jones of Sherburne following a lengthy investigation & the execution of a search warrant. Frank and Jones were arrested on numerous counts of 3rd Degree Burglary and Criminal Mischief, for allegedly breaking into local businesses and stealing money and damaging property. Frank was arraigned and was remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility with no bail. Jones was released on an appearance ticket for Village of Sherburne Court on a later date. The investigation is still on going and more charges are pending.

P.M. NEWS WEDNESDAY 12-7-22

State Police released the names of the people involved Monday in a 2-vehicle crash in the town of Columbus; where a Van rear-ended a Tractor Trailer turning off of State Route 8. Police said that the passenger of the van, 22 year old Jasmine Morrison of Rome was pronounced deceased on scene. The driver of the van, 24 year old Tyler Stewart of Lee Center was airlifted to Upstate Medical Hospital in Syracuse, The driver of the tractor trailer, 38 year old Chad Alishaukas of Sherburne, was not injured. The investigation is continuing.

P.M. NEWS TUESDAY 12-6-22

State Police responded to a crash Monday involving a pedestrian in town of Sherburne. Police reported that a vehicle was traveling west on State Highway 80 when a pedestrian who was standing in the roadway and wearing dark clothing was struck. The pedestrian has been identified as 30 year old Megan Mikalunas of North Norwich, she was pronounced deceased on scene. The driver of the vehicle, 57 year old Robert Allen of Oneida stopped and flagged down another vehicle to call 911. Sherburne EMS and State Police responded to the scene, the investigation is on-going.

Chenango County Sheriff's Office arrested 34 year old Kaitlyn Franklin of Sherburne for Harassment and Endangering the Welfare of a Child. Franklin is accused of subjecting a female under the age of 17 years old to unwanted physical contact, she was arrested without incident, processed, and released on an appearance ticket to appear in the Village of Sherburne Court at a later date.

Chenango County Sheriff's Office arrested 55 year old Kevin Washington of Sherburne on an active Arrest Warrant Tuesday. Washington was arrested in Sherburne after being located by Detectives, he was taken into custody without incident. The Village of Sherburne Court issued the warrant after Washington failed to appear on previous charges, he was arraigned in the Village of Sherburne Court and was released & was ordered to appear in court at a later date.

New York's new gun laws are enacted today, following the U.S. Supreme Court's decision to strike down the state's century-old pistol permitting process. The laws contain strengthened background checks and firearm safety and live-fire training for individuals seeking to obtain concealed carry permits; prohibit concealed carry permit holders from bringing their firearms into sensitive locations, including bars, libraries, schools, government buildings and hospitals, among others; and require renewal or re-certification of permits every three years, More information is available at gunsafety.ny.gov.

Attorney General James joined a coalition of 50 attorneys general to form a nationwide, bipartisan Anti-Robocall Litigation Taskforce to investigate and take legal action against companies responsible for enabling a majority of foreign robocalls into the United States. Firefighters from Norwich, North Norwich, Plymouth & Sherburne responded to a structure fire at 145 Morgan Acres north of the City of Norwich Monday morning. Norwich Fire Chief Jan Papelino told WCDO News that a neighbor removed a dog, firefighters kept the fire from spreading further into the structure, which sustained sufficient damage, the investigation is continuing.

18-year-old Payton Gendron of Conklin was charged Wednesday by an Erie County Grand Jury with domestic terrorism motivated by hate and 10 counts of 1st-degree murder. Gendron has been in custody since the May 14th shooting at a Buffalo TOPS Supermarket, the 25-count indictment also contains charges of murder and attempted murder as a hate crime and weapons possession.

Binghamton Police responded to the report of a shooting on Saratoga Avenue at about 10:00 PM Monday night. Police found 38-year-old Jayson Santiago of Binghamton with gunshot wounds to the leg and abdomen, he was taken to an area hospital & was treated and released, Police reported that Santiago was involved in a disturbance with a group of juvenile males during which he exchanged gunfire with them, & they fled the scene. Santiago was charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon & faces arraignment at a later date.

State Police have arrested a woman who allegedly stabbed a man inside Stewart's in Sherburne last night. State Police said that an Investigator walked into the Stewart's when he saw a man and a woman physically fighting. He attempted to separate the two when the woman stabbed the man. The Investigator restrained the woman and store employees called 911. The victim, identified as 56 year old Daniel Purdy of Sherburne was transported to Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse with serious but non-life threatening injuries. 25 year old Jessica Collins of Sherburne was charged with 1st Degree Assault, She was processed and transported to Chenango County Jail. State Police were assisted on scene by Chenango County Deputies, the investigation is continuing.

On April 28th 2022, members of the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division received a report that an assault occurred in the Delaware County Correctional Facility involving two inmates. Martin Planty Jr, of Walton assaulted another inmate by striking the other inmate, causi9ng injuries to the victim's face and chest. On Tuesday, Planty was charged with 2nd degree Assault, he was arraigned at the Town of Delhi Court, he was returned to the Delaware County Correctional facility.

Alcohol was sold to a minor at 3 Norwich establishments; Nazzitto’s Wine & Liquors, Norwich Fresh Market & South End Wine & Liquor, An appearance ticket was issued to each clerk who sold alcohol to the minor. 10 other business were in compliance in Sherburne & Norwich.

Transportation Security Administration officers at Hancock Airport in Syracuse stopped an unidentified Chenango County man from Sherburne with a loaded handgun at the Airport security checkpoint Monday morning. The a 9mm caliber handgun was loaded with 6 bullets, A TSA officer spotted it on the X-ray machine as the man’s belongings were being screened, Syracuse Police responded and confiscated the weapon. The man told officials that he had placed the gun in his bag when he went hiking and forgot that he had his loaded gun with him, he was not charged.

A State DEC patrol caught 30 teenagers holding a party with alcohol on Friday, April 22, at the Charles Baker State Forest in Sherburne. The group included teens ranging in age from 15 to 19 years old, including an unidentified 18-year-old from Norwich, who allegedly had 3 cases of beer, who was charged with underage possession of alcohol in a State Forest.

Beckwith said that The Norwich YMCA is operating a shelter, The Smyrna & Coventry Fire Departments are operating as "Warming Stations", The Norwich High School will be a warming shelter with showers available, Otselic Valley Central school will have overnight shelter, showers & food available, The Sherburne Earlville School has food available for pick up only, The Unadilla Valley School will be open until 7:00 PM for shelter, And NYSEG is making dry ice available at the Fire Departments in Afton, Bainbridge, Greene, Guilford, Norwich & Smyrna.

Chenango County Sheriff's Deputies responded on Sunday to a residence on Knapp Road in the Town of Sherburne for a reported Shooting. Deputies located 39 year old Joseph Hubbard of Poolville, deceased inside of the residence from a gunshot from a rifle. There were also two other adults and children inside the residence at the time of the incident. The parties involved were known to each other. There is no danger to the public and all parties involved have been identified and the investigation is ongoing, with assistance from State Police.

The United States Department of Justice announced 35-year-old Matthew Bormann of Sherburne was sentenced on Wednesday to 10 years in prison and 15 years of post-release supervision for possessing child pornography. Bormann had 3,500 images and video files of child porn on a phone that he was prohibited from using, he was also sentenced to a 10-month consecutive term of imprisonment for violating the conditions of his supervised release by committing new criminal conduct, failing to answer questions truthfully from his probation officer, and failing to successfully complete mental health and sex offender treatment.

State Police charged 61 year old Douglas Webb of Sherburne for Offering a False Instrument for Filing & Falsifying Business Records. Webb, who was a bus driver at the Sherburne-Earlville School District, was initially arrested last week by State Police for Forcible Touching and Endangering the Welfare of a Child, the investigation revealed that on his application to become a school bus driver, Webb failed to disclose that he had a previous conviction on a charge of sexual abuse. Webb was released on appearance tickets to the Sherburne Village Court on February 17th.
