The US Justice Department arrested Arley Gonzalez of Miami Florida for participating in an access device fraud conspiracy. Gonzalez was sentenced to 27 months in prison after he admitted to build skimming devices designed to steal gas station customer information in several counties in New York State, the information was used to obtain cash from unsuspecting customers from December 2015 to July 2019. Gonzalez must forfeit $247,000 as part of his plea agreement in addition to the 27 months in prison.
Governor Kathy Hochul today announced more than $102 million awarded to 64 projects through the Restore New York Communities Initiative. The Southern Tier was awarded more than $15.7 Million in support of 8 projects, including in the Village of Endicott with $6 Million for the IBM North Street Demolition Project: almost $3 Million Dollars for the City of Binghamton for the development of vacant site into a multi-story building with 102 rental units & $1.8 million dollars for the Town of Roxbury for the Inn at Kirkside, to re-purpose the historic site into a hotel/restaurant with an integrated educational program.

The National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum announced that items from the World Champions Houston Astros is being displayed currently. Voters in the Morris Central School district approved of the $14.5 Million Dollar Project Tuesday, by a vote of 105 to 53. The project will be paid for through State Aid & A capital reserve fund, a big piece of the project calls for the replacement of the bus garage, which has been in service for 71 years. Construction is expected to begin next year.

Over 65,000 tests were conducted State Wide from Saturday through Monday, with over 4500 positive tests, or 5.3%, Patient hospitalizations are over 3500, with almost 1300 in an ICU bed & 138 on ventilators, there were 98 deaths reported over the 3 day [period.

State Police arrested 26 year old Peter Tarallo of Sidney for 2nd degree Assault, after Troopers were dispatched to a report of an assault at an apartment on State Highway 8 in the town of Unadilla. The troopers discovered that a victim was struck with a sauce pan over the head several times, leading to an injury. The victim was transported to Chenango Memorial Hospital in Norwich for further evaluation. Tarallo was located with the assistance of village of Sidney Police, he was transported to the State Police headquarters in Sidney and processed & was transported to the Otsego County Jail for Centralized Arraignment and Processing.
The Broome County Sheriff's Department arrested 2 area men for several counts of Criminal possession of a weapon, after they posted a Facebook live stream Monday. 42 year old Nicholas Skiba of Johnson City and 23 year old Keith Hall of Chenango Forks were arrested, a handgun was seen in the live stream and Skiba was wearing Ballistic Body Armor, The Whitney Point & Chenango Forks schools were on lock out, along with Wilson Medical Center and Binghamton General Hospital. Sheriff's Deputies obtained a search Warrant for Skiba's cell Phone & Facebook page, they discovered the location of the 2 men at a residence on State Route 12 In Chenango Forks, they were taken into custody, Deputies seized 5 handguns, 4 rifles 3 shotguns 2 black powder pistols and large capacity magazines, the investigation is ongoing.

The State Department of Transportation announced that construction is complete on a $16 million project to replace the bridge carrying Front Street over Interstate 81 at Exit 5 in the Town of Dickinson. The State Health Department announced that the regular strains of influenza are widespread for the 6th straight week. For the week of November 12th, 11,696 cases of the flu were detected out of over 68,000 samples, for a 17% positivist rate. The number of patients hospitalized with laboratory-confirmed influenza was 621, a 43% increase over the previous week. There have been no influenza-associated pediatric deaths reported this season.

Morris Central School District residents will vote on a $14.5 million capital project, which includes replacing the bus garage, roofs on the main building, repaving the parking lot and installing LED energy efficient lights and replacing flooring as necessary, installing more cameras, replacing fire doors and updating the heating of the school. 86% of the project will come from state aid and the district will use $1 million in its capital reserves fund, a public forum will be held at 5:30 PM on December 8th in the school's library. State Police and the Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services announced that a contingent of 50 State Troopers left Saturday morning for Puerto Rico to help the island nation as it recovers from the devastation left behind in the wake of Hurricane Fiona. Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies observed a vehicle fail to dim its headlights when approaching oncoming traffic Saturday Night. Deputies stopped 20-year-old Louis Manzanares of Uniondale, , whose driver’s license was suspended. Deputies arrested Manzanares for Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Failure to Dim Lights and Uninspected Motor Vehicle, he was released and is scheduled to appear before the Town of Delhi Court at a later date.

Governor Hochul issued an Executive Order declaring a State Disaster Emergency, increasing the availability of resources to protect New Yorkers against polio. The Order immediately expands the network of polio vaccine administrators with the addition of EMS workers, midwives, and pharmacists and authorizes physicians and certified nurse practitioners to issue non-patient specific standing orders for polio vaccines. The order also requires healthcare providers to send polio immunization data to the State Department of Health All New Yorkers who are unvaccinated should get immunized right away.

The State Health Department reports that as of today, there are a total of 3,485 confirmed monkeypox cases in New York State. 92% of the cases are in New York City, there are 2 confirmed cases in Broome County & 1 in Delaware County. Symptoms of monkeypox can include Rashes, bumps, or blisters, Flu-like symptoms, such as fever, headache, muscle aches, chills, and fatigue. The Latest COVID 19 statistics show a slow steady decline, with 7% Positivity rate reported on Tuesday, the 7 day rolling average was down to 6.29%. Patients hospitalizations have declined to 2,394, that a decrease of about 175 since last week, also there were 252 ICU patients with 102 on Ventilators, which is an increase of 13 since last week, & with the overall decline in COVID 19 cases, Students in New York state will not have to wear masks or be quarantined if they came in contact with someone with COVID.
The State DOT is advising motorists that the off-ramp at Exit 19 on Interstate 88 westbound in the Town of Worcester, will close for approximately 60 days starting on Monday, August 29. The closure is necessary to facilitate a project to resurface the road and rehabilitate bridges. A variable message sign will alert motorists of the closure and direct them to Exit 20 and a signed detour utilizing State Route 7.
Governor Kathy Hochul announced that police agencies have removed 6,007 illegal guns from communities across New York State during the first 7 months of the year, a 20% increase over 2021. State Police seized 1,468 guns from August 2021 to July 2022: a 140% increase when compared to August 2020 to July 2021, The State's budget contains $227 million to fund programs implemented by law enforcement agencies and community-based organizations.

A 43-year-old David Jakubonis of Fairport was charged in federal court Saturday with assaulting a member of Congress using a dangerous weapon. Jakubonis faces up to 10 years in prison if convicted of wielding a sharp object at Congressman Lee Zeldin during a campaign event in Monroe County Thursday night. Jakobonis was charged by local law enforcement with Attempted Assault in the attempted attack, Zeldin wasn’t injured.
Delaware County DPW announced the closure of county Route 37 in the town of Middletown to through traffic starting at 7:00 AM on Monday July 25. Crews will be performing a slope stabilization project, the closure will be between Main Street and Breezy Hill Road, work is expected to be completed by the end of August. Rochester police officer Anthony Mazurkiewicz was killed and Officer Sino Seng was injured in an ambush shooting Thursday night. Mazurkiewicz was a 29-year veteran of the Rochester Police Department, he was patrolling with Officer Seng when a male approached them and opened fire. Seng was shot in the lower body and is expected to survive, a woman who witnessed the attack was also shot and was injured with non-life-threatening injuries, the investigation is continuing.

39 year-old Isaac Anzaroot of Brooklyn was arrested today by the Binghamton Police Warrant Division. Anzaroot is the owner of numerous properties in the city, he was wanted on 12 bench warrants and 2 arrest warrants related to housing code violations & for failing to appear in court to answer those violations. The law will take effect on September 1st, an appeals board will be created for those applicants whose license or renewal is denied or revoked, which will take effect on April 1st 2023.

The Broome County District Attorney’s Office announced that 32 year old Zeke Wilmarth of Binghamton was sentenced to 15 years in prison for an attempted killing of a woman for an incidnet in Vestal in July of 2021. Wilmarth had pleaded guilty to attempted murder, 1st degree assault, possession of a weapon and strangulation, He will also serve five years post-release supervision.
Lawrence Faucett was convicted of criminally negligent homicide for the 2019 death of State Transportation Worker Dennis Howe, he has won his appeal to overturn the conviction. The State Supreme Court Appellate Division stated that Faucett’s claim that the guilty verdict did not have enough evidence or proof of blameworthy conduct to be convicted on the charge, Howe was struck by a tractor-trailer in his DOT vehicle in a work zone on State Route 17 near Owego. He died from his injuries a week later.

Renovations will also revive the pass-through area from the municipal parking lot to Main Street.
