The National Baseball Hall of Fame Announced that former Major League Manager Jim Leyland will be inducted into the Hall of Fame this summer in Cooperstown. Leyland took the Florida Marlins to a World Series title in 1997, he had several winning seasons managing the Pittsburgh Pirates & Detroit Tigers with 6 first-place finishes, 3 pennants, he won the Manager of the year Award 3 times. The Hall of Fame Weekend 2024 will be held July 19-22 in Cooperstown, with the Class of 2024 to be inducted at 1:30 pm. on Sunday, July 21, on the grounds of the Clark Sports Center. The Baseball Writers' Association of America will announce the results of its Class of 2024 Hall of Fame voting on January 23rd.

4Towns Forward announced that Santa's Mailbox is set up in 2 locations, for children who would like to send Santa a letter this holiday season. Santa Mailbox will be available today through December 18th at Bob’s Diner in Bainbridge and Roasted Coffee House in Sidney, drop off times are between 6:00 am - 2:00 pm daily.

Congressman Marc Molinaro announced his constituent service team will hold mobile office hours from 11:00am to 1:00pm on Thursday, December 7 at the New Berlin Village Clerk Office at 13 South Main Street. Constituents will be able to connect with representatives from Rep. Molinaro's office to share comments and resolve issues they are having with federal agencies like the VA, IRS, and Social Security Administration.

Members of the Binghamton Metro SWAT Team executed a search warrant at 39 Travis Avenue in Binghamton Friday, after a gunshot was heard earlier in the day by Binghamton Police officers conducting a welfare check. Officer found a deceased male in the basement, who died from a self inflicted gunshot wound, the name of the deceased was not released.

11 Fire Companies responded Friday night a fire in Stamford. The buildings were on fire at 62 to 64 Main Street in Stamford, 2 historic buildings were lost, the fire displaced 30 residents and 2 businesses, 2 residents & 2 firefighters were injured, with non-life threatening injuries. The Red Cross & Churchill Gym helped displaced residents, the cause of the fire is under investigation. The Stamford Village Hall will accept donations today through Friday from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM. Locally, Waste Recovery Enterprises of Sidney is collecting donations of canned food & toiletries for the 11 families displaced, teh items can be dropped off at their location at Valley View Road & they will deliver them to Stamford.

Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a call, where it was alleged that a fully disabled and incompetent individual had been left on a bus after it was parked for the evening, & after noticing that the victim had not returned home, a residential facility aid had discovered the victim’s location and brought her to a hospital. Deputies charged the bus driver, 74 year-old Lyndon Doig and the aid, 63 year-old Norma Castro, both of Walton, with endangering the welfare of an incompetent or physically disabled person, they are scheduled to appear in front of the Walton Town Court at a later date.

Delaware County District Attorney's Office announced that 45 year old Luke Lupo of Walton appeared in Delaware County Court Monday and pleaded guilty to 3rd degree Burglary. Lupo admitted that in April of 2022, he entered a building owned by Herman’s Trailer Sales and Service in Walton, and stole property, he will be sentenced to 5 years of felony probation supervision and ordered to pay restitution to the victim. Sentencing was scheduled for January 16, 2024.

Governor Kathy Hochul today announced nearly $16 million is being awarded through Round 7 of the Climate Resilient Farming Grant Program to help 116 farms address the impacts of climate change. The selected projects will reduce greenhouse gases by an estimated 64,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent per year, the equivalent of eliminating over 14,000 cars from the road for 1 year, In the Southern Tier, $1.8 Million Dollars will be split up among 11 farms.

22 year old Dakota Mann of Walton pleaded guilty to Criminal Contempt in Delaware County Court Monday. Mann admitted that he was aware of an order of protection prohibiting him from having contact with the protected party, he had contact with the victim and “engaged in a domestic dispute.” he will be sentenced to 1 year in the Delaware County Correction Facility upon sentencing on November 27th.

The Chenango County Health Department is hosting a COVID-19 vaccine clinic for uninsured and under-insured individuals through the Bridge Access Program. This COVID-19 vaccine clinic is for 18 years of age and older, it will be held November 16th &17th, from 9-11 am and 1-3 pm at 5 Court Street Norwich. Appointments can be made at 607-337-1660.

Governor Kathy Hochul announced that more than $57 million has been awarded to support 238 projects across New York State through the Regional Economic Development Council initiative. Sportsfield Specialties will receive a $500,000 Grant & a $1.5 Million Excelsior Jobs Tax Credit, to expand its manufacturing operations in Delhi, by utilizing vacant property adjacent to its existing site. The proposed project will include a 60,000 square-foot manufacturing plant expansion with modern equipment, a new office complex, mechanical shop and storage, the Total Project Cost will be $27.5 Million.

The State Department of Transportation will hold their Public Information Meeting regarding the reconstruction of the State Route 7 & Maple Street intersection in Oneonta into a roundabout. 46 year old John Jaromack Jr, formerly of Franklin, appeared in Delaware County Court Monday, he was sentenced to a total of 10 years in State Prison to be followed by 10 years of post-release supervision. Jaromack pleaded guilty to 2 counts of Criminal Sexual Act in August in Delaware County Court, he admitted to sexually abusing a minor child. The court also issued orders of protection in favor of the two children for the next 13 years. The defendant will be mandated to register as a sex offender upon being released from prison.

U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand announced today that millions in federal funding will be available for New Yorkers through the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program this winter:

The money will help thousands of households across the state afford their heating bills and make cost-effective home energy repairs this winter. She is also calling for additional funding for LIHEAP to make sure that as many qualifying families as possible can get the assistance they need throughout the coming months.

The Tompkins County Sheriff's Office reported that a Binghamton man who led police agencies on a manhunt, was taken into custody today. Christopher Borges of Binghamton led police on a manhunt covering several hours, he was located and taken into custody around 10:07 am. on Deerfield Lane in the Town of Caroline without incident. Charges against Borges include kidnapping, robbery and criminal contempt.

52 year old Shelly Genung of Sidney appeared in Delaware County Court Tuesday and pleaded guilty to 1 count of Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated with a child in the vehicle. Genung admitted that she was operating the motor vehicle on a public highway in the Village of Sidney, while she was intoxicated by alcohol, with a 6-year-old child in the vehicle, she will be sentenced to 5 years of felony probation supervision and required to comply with any substance abuse treatment recommendations & successfully complete the Impaired Driving Program and attend a Victim Impact Panel, her license will be revoked, and she will be required to install an ignition interlock device in any vehicle she owns or operates.

The Broome County Sheriff's Office arrested 45 year old Danielle Ashdown of Binghamton during the intake process at the Broome County Correctional Facility. On October 6th, Ashdown was arrested by Binghamton Police for a conditional discharge. A routine search uncovered 2 clear bags hidden on her person, containing methamphetamine and fentanyl, they also recovered 2 other substances. Ashdown was charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance & 3 Counts of Promoting Prison Contraband, she was remanded to the Broome County Correctional Facility.

The Chenango County Farm Bureau Annual Meeting will be held today at Fred’s Inn, in Norwich, beginning at 6:00 pm. Members, farmers, and legislators will be present to discuss the future of agriculture & how green energy is affecting production.

Hartwick College officials announced that they are hosting 2 Candidate Forums prior to Election Day. The Hartwick Institute of Public Service announced that the forum for today features candidates running for election in Otsego County, on Wednesday, November 1, the institute will host candidates running for election in the City of Oneonta. The Otsego County Department of Health reports that a cat tested positive for rabies in the Village of Cherry Valley on October 24, 2023. This cat belonged to a feral cat colony on Montgomery Street in the Village of Cherry Valley. Chief Oliver said that Officer Smith achieved this award while still on her probationary period with the Sidney Police Department.

Broome County Sheriff's Office responded Wednesday, afternoon to a work zone accident on the I-88 westbound bridge north of I-81. The investigation found that after a heavy downpour, an employee exiting a port-a-John was struck by a passing water truck traveling within the construction area in reverse, which ran over the worker’s legs and lower torso. The victim remained conscious was transported to Wilson Hospital. The investigation revealed a questionable placement of the portable facility, no charges have been filed, the accident report was sent to the Occupational Safety and Health Administration.

Congressman Marc Molinaro announced today that the USDA will release federal resources for an agricultural disaster designation for all 11 counties in Molinaro's 19th District and 20 other counties in New York, in response to freeze and frost last May, which caused significant damage and losses to crops. The disaster designation allows farm operators to be eligible for Farm Service Agency (FSA) emergency loans. Farmers in eligible counties have 8 months from the date of the disaster declaration to apply for emergency loans. The City of Norwich announced that their boil water advisory issued Thursday in the southern part of the city, has been lifted. The advisory was order following a water main Break & South Broad Street near Hale Street.

Broome County District Attorney' Office announced that 49 year old Kristina Doty pleaded guilty to 2nd degree Assault & will spend 5 years in jail. Doty admitted to causing physical injury to another person on March 12th, she injured a 63-year-old woman when she struck her in the head multiple times with a flashlight. Doty has a prior felony conviction for 2nd Degree Assault in 2015. She will be sentenced on November 16.

The Co-Ed Sidney Slow Pitch Softball Tournament will be held tomorrow at Keith Clark Park in Sidney, with teams from around the state competing, the day will also be coupled with a fundraiser by the American Legion, to help Sidney's league play at Keith Clark Park & pay for lights & other assorted costs, according to tournament organizer Matt Walsh of Sidney:

Today, the Governor's Office sent state agencies to Assist Local governments IN Sullivan County following Saturday's Tornado in Callicoon Center and Roscoe. Affected residents can call the Disaster Hotline at 800- 339-1759 For Insurance-Related Questions. The State Department of Agriculture and Markets Encourages Affected Farms to Contact U.S. Department of Agriculture's Farm Service Agency to Report Damage. The National Weather Service in Binghamton determined the tornado was an EF2, with maximum winds of 115 mph. The tornado traveled 10 miles with a maximum width of 300 yards.

Law Enforcement Agencies around the state are participating in "Operation Safe Stop Day" today, where police officers are checking to see if motorists are stopping for school busses with their flashing lights on, picking up or dropping off students. It is estimated that 50-thousand New Yorkers illegally pass stopped school buses each day that school is in session. Penalties for a first-time offense include a fine of up to 400 dollars, five points on a person's drivers license and possibly 30 days in jail.

The family of Jorge Jimenez, who was fatally struck by a vehicle driven by former Syracuse University basketball coach Jim Boeheim in February 2019, has agreed to settle a lawsuit against Boeheim. Terms of the settlement will remain sealed, Jimenez was a passenger in a car that that skidded on Interstate 690 and hit a guardrail. Boeheim was driving home after a game when he swerved to avoid the car and hit Jimenez, who was later pronounced dead at a hospital. Boeheim was not charged by police investigating the crash.

32-year-old Kyle Packer was arrested by Otsego County Sheriff's deputies following a domestic dispute in Edmeston. Packer allegedly choked a victim & several items were also damaged, he left the scene, but was later arrested on a separate outstanding warrant for allegedly trying to use a fake $100 bill to purchase items at a retail establishment. Packer was charged with Strangulation, Criminal Obstruction of Breathing, Criminal Mischief, Harassment, Criminal Possession of a Forged Instrument & Petty Larceny, he is being held in the Otsego County Jail pending arraignment.

The Survey Team at the National Weather Service in Binghamton confirmed that there was an EF2 tornado in Sullivan County Saturday evening, with estimated maximum wind speed of 115 mph, it had a path of nearly 10 miles and a maximum width of 300 yards. A tornado touched down north of Jeffersonville, along Callicoon Center Road, damaging trees, it moved north, where with damage to trees & structures, including a 180 foot truss tower that collapsed, The tornado continued north to the Roscoe area with uprooted trees, & some damage to structures along Dutch Hill Road, it lifted as it approached Rockland. Delaware County Sheriff's office arrested 61 year old Fredrick Hallstead of McDonough for Criminal Mischief and Harassment. Deputies responded on March 12th, in the Town of Walton for a Domestic Incident in progress, where Hallstead is accused of making physical contact with a female victim, in an effort to prevent her from calling 911. Deputies subsequently located Hallstead recently and issued a summons to appear at Town of Walton Court at a later date.

Delsa McEwan, the mother of Anielle "AK" McEwan Lomnicki, has filed a lawsuit In Delaware County Supreme Court, against a number of people in relation to the February 15th incident where the 14 year old was run down by a car allegedly driven by Courtni Baker in Sidney. The lawsuit is filed against Baker, Baker's mother Theresa Baker who owned the vehicle, plus Ermeti's Community Lounge, owner Joe Ermeti and bar manager Laura Huntley. The Lawsuit claims that Community Lounge Staff should have stopped serving Courtni Baker that day, That Theresa Baker should not have allowed her daughter to operate the car while intoxicated, and against Baker for driving the vehicle into the Sidney Teenager. The case was filed on April 18th.

Delaware County Sheriff's office arrested 31 year old Kyle Oakley of South Kortright for Criminal Mischief & Burglary. Deputies were dispatched to a Burglary Report in the Town of Stamford, between the dates of February 23rd and March 8th, someone had forced entry into a residence and intentionally damaged property, Deputies recovered evidence which was sent to the State Police Crime Lab for analysis, Deputies later received a positive DNA match with Oakley, an arrest warrant was issued & Oakley was located & was taken into custody last week, Oakley was arraigned in the Town of Middletown Court where he was remanded to the Delaware County Jail in lieu of $5,000 cash or $10,000 in secured bond.

The Delaware County Department of Public Works will be closing County Route 16 in the Town of Delhi to through traffic beginning at 7:00 This morning to replace a culvert pipe between the two intersections with Fleming Road. On Wednesday, the road will be closed in the Town of Franklin between the northern intersection with Fleming Road and Douglas Hall Road. The traveling public should seek alternate routes.

Former Broome County Executive Assistant in the Broome County DA's Office, James Worhach, pleaded guilty to felony Grand Larceny In Broome County Court this week. Worhach admitted to stealing more than $1,000 from Broome County to pay for unauthorized parking for himself and former District Attorney Stephen Cornwell, in a commercial parking lot from 2016-2019. Previously, Worhach pleaded guilty to Criminal Possession of Stolen Property for working to cover up a felony DWI arrest of Cornwell in 1995, by wiping it out of the DA computer system. Worhach will be sentenced on March 7th, he faces up to 4 years in prison, and the prosecution will seek $5,455 in restitution.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies noticed a disabled tractor trailer on State Highway 17 on January 20th, Upon making contact with the driver, 34 year old Jeiron Vallejo of Bronx, was found to be operating the tractor trailer with a suspended registration & without insurance. Deputies charged Vallejo with Operating a Motor Vehicle while Registration is Suspended, he was released on an appearance ticket to the Colchester Town Court at a later date.

State Senator Peter Oberacker Supported the Senate approval of legislation to help increase safety for limousine passengers. The comprehensive package of bills follows recommendations advanced by the Stretch Limousine Passenger Safety Task Force:

The task force was created as a direct result of the deadly crash in the Town of Schoharie in Ocotber of 2018 where 20 people died, the legislation passed by the state senate must still be approved by the state assembly and signed by the governor to take effect.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies observed a vehicle traveling on State Highway 206 in the Town of Walton Saturday Night, the vehicle had failed to maintain operation within its designated lane of travel, by crossing over the center roadway markings multiple times. Deputies identified the driver of the vehicle as 22-year-old Paul Akinware of New York, A check of Akinware’s driver’s license revealed that his driving privileges were suspended in the State of New York. Deputies subsequently arrested Akinware For Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Failing to Turn in License to DMV, Unlicensed Operator, Moving from lane unsafely and No/Inadequate Lights, Akinware was released and is scheduled to appear in the Town of Walton Court at a later date.

State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli oversees more than 46 million unclaimed funds accounts valued at $17.5 billion. Governor Kathy Hochul will present the Executive Budget Proposal at the Capitol at 12:00 Noon today. The budget will be turned over to the legislature for consideration ,they have until April 1st to get it passed.

State Attorney General's Office of Special Investigation released its report on the death of Paul Weeden in Walton. On October 4th 2021, Weeden called 911 and said he was going to hurt himself & needed a police officer sent to 14 Griswold Street, A Walton Police Officer responded who requested back up from the Delaware County Sheriff's Office, a deputy met the Walton officer at Weeden's residence. Weeden called the officer to come inside, he was covered by a blanket, and asked the officer to come closer. The officer asked Weeden to take his hands out from under the blanket, Weeden was holding a gun, the officer retreated out the front door, urging Weeden to drop the weapon, Weeden moved to the front door with his gun pointed at the officer, and the officer fired his service weapon, Weeden fell, but then raised the gun, and the officer fired again. Weeden was pronounced dead at the scene. Officers recovered a pellet gun at the scene, there were no markings on The gun that distinguished it from a firearm. The Attorney General's Office determined that criminal charges could not be pursued against the officer.

Deposit Fire Department responded on Saturday to a fatal fire on Lumber Road in the town of Deposit. The fire started around 4 pm. and the house was deemed a total loss, the name of the victim has not been released pending family notification. The cause of the fire is still under investigation. Firefighters from Afton, Hancock, Harpursville, Masonville, and West Windsor fire departments responded.

Delaware County District Attorney's office announced that 46-year-old Justin Valk of Davenport was arraigned Monday, on an indictment charging him with 2 Counts of 2nd degree Burglary & 1 count of 3rd degree Burglary. Valk is accused of unlawfully entering a garage on County Route 30, in Harpersfield while displaying what appeared to be a firearm Valk pleaded not-guilty to the 3 count indictment, and he was remanded to the Delaware County Jail on $100,000.00 cash bail.

Delaware County District Attorney's Office announced that 64 year old Jeffery Laskow of Big Indian was convicted of 1 count of Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs, he entered his guilty plea in the Town of Middletown Court last week. Laskow was involved in a 1 car motor vehicle accident in Margaretville on June 10, 2022, State Police accused Laskow of being under the influence of a drug, he was sentenced to 2 years of probation, and ordered to pay a $1,000 fine and a $400 surcharge, his driver’s license was revoked for 6 months, and he was ordered to attend a Victim Impact Panel and an Impaired Driver Program.

The Otsego County Department of Health will offer a vaccination clinic on February 6th from 4:00 to 6:00 PM. The Department of Health will offer Bivalent COVID-19 boosters at the Otsego County Meadows Complex in the EMS/Civil Service Classroom at 140 County Hwy 33 West, in Cooperstown. The Professional Box Lacrosse Association announced that all remaining games across the league will be postponed as of TODAY. The league announced that they plan on a restructuring, but for now, Season ticket holders will be contacted and will receive a full refund for the duration of the season. The league had a team in Binghamton known as the Bombers.

The State Department of Health announced that for the 16th consecutive week, the flu remains widespread across the State, even as the number of laboratory-confirmed influenza cases has decreased 39 percent, the 6th straight week for declining numbers. There were no influenza-associated pediatric deaths reported this week, there have been 8 since the flu season started late last year. There have been 4,459 cases of flu reported, 465 people were hospitalized with influenza in New York, a 44% decrease over the previous week.

The Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 38 year old Danielle Mingleton of Cooperstown, following a recent traffic stop in Milford. Mingleton was charged with DWI, Aggravated DWI, Failure to Keep Right, Operating while Registration is suspended or revoked, Operating without Insurance & Consumption of Alcohol in a Motor Vehicle on a Highway, she was released on appearance tickets for Milford Town Court on February 14th.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies observed a vehicle traveling on State Highway 206 in the Town of Colchester, crossing over the double yellow line. Deputies identified the driver of the vehicle as 20 year-old Breawna McCree of Bronx, a check of the vehicle’s license plate showed that the vehicle inspection had expired in 2021.
