The Potential Food Sources are lettuce or salad greens, a specific grower or distributor of the affected foods has not yet been identified, Symptoms include nausea & vomiting, those with symptoms are advised to contact their health care provider, the illness can be treated with antibiotics.
Governor Hochul signed an executive order establishing a statewide moratorium on the permitting and construction of large new data centers. The freeze will temporarily stop massive, facilities for up to a year while the state develops updated environmental, energy, and community standards. The ban applies to new data center facilities that require 50 Mega Watts or more of energy. however smaller data centers used by hospitals, universities, and financial back-office services are exempt.
The Broome County Sheriff’s Office is expanding and enhancing communication abilities with crime victims and community members with new technology that provides text updates to community members calling 911. Following a call to 911 or the Sheriff’s Office non-emergency line, callers using a mobile phone will receive an automated notification & incident number by text message, with updates related to the response, about the deputy being dispatched and access to helpful resources, callers will also be able to check the status of their cases at sheriffconnect.broomecountyny.gov.

State Police are seeking the public’s assistance in identifying an individual in connection with an assault, On June 30, 2026, at approximately 11:35 a.m., at the Dollar General on State Route 12 in the town of Norwich. The investigation determined that a white male approached another male as he was exiting the store, yelled at him, and punched him in the face, causing the victim to fall to the ground and strike his head. The victim sustained a laceration above his eyebrow and was treated at the scene by members of Norwich Ambulance. He declined transportation to a hospital. The suspect is described as a white male, approximately 6 feet tall, with a muscular build and short light brown hair, the suspect left in a blue SUV. The State DOT advises motorists that the I-88 westbound Exit 20 on-ramp will be closed from Monday, July 20 through Friday, July 31, weather permitting, to accommodate for resurfacing work. The closure is part of an ongoing project to resurface I-88 between the Otsego County line and Exit 20. The project includes the installation of new guide-rail, The interstate will remain open and is currently restricted to one lane of travel in each direction, the ramp must be fully closed during this phase of work and motorists should follow the posted detour.
37 year old Rondell Dowdell of Endicott, pleaded guilty this morning in Broome County Court, to Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance. On July 17, 2025, Dowdell was stopped in Vestal while operating an electric bicycle in violation State Traffic Laws, a Vestal Police Department canine alerted to the presence of narcotics. A search recovered approximately 20 grams of methamphetamine, a digital scale, packaging material, and cash from suspected drug sales. Dowdell is scheduled for sentencing on October 14th, he faces 3 years in State Prison and 3 Years of post release supervision.
The State’s Division of Consumer Protection is warning members of the military community to be aware of scams targeting active-duty service members and veterans. The FTC reports the number of scams targeting the military community increased by 17%, costing victims $684 million in 2025, with 35,215 fraud reports filed. Service members and their families should never give personal information by phone or by clicking on links in emails to an unknown company or person. The Consumer Assistance Helpline 1-800-697-1220 is available Monday to Friday from 8:30am to 4:30pm, consumer complaints can be filed at Dos.ny.gov/consumerprotection.

Oneonta Fire Department responded to a fire at 10 Luther Street Sunday morning at about 9:00 Am. all occupants escaped without injuries, there were no injuries to firefighters, the cause of the fire is under investigation, the structure was a total loss.
Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 25 year old Samuel Layton of New Lisbon, for 3 counts of Reckless Endangerment, following an investigation into a shots fired complaint in the Town of Exeter. Layton is accused of firing a semi-automatic rifle in the direction of an occupied residence with a family of 3 inside, resulting in a rifle round impacting through the residence, he was located, arrested, processed, and turned over to Otsego County Corrections pending Centralized Arraignment
State Police arrested 62 year old Dawn Hawley of Delancey for Stalking, after a victim located a tracking device in their vehicle. The victim believed that Hawley had placed the tracker in December 2025 but was unable to find it until last week, Hawley was processed and was issued an appearance ticket to the Hamden Town Court on July 22, 2026.
The State DOT advises motorists that State Route 23 in the Town of Plymouth, just west of Ashcraft Road, has reopened to alternating single-lane traffic, controlled by a temporary signal, as work continues on a culvert replacement project. The roadway had been fully closed for approximately one week, with a signed detour, to allow crews to set the culvert in place. Construction began on June 29, and work is expected to continue for another four to five weeks, weather permitting. Binghamton Police responded Tuesday to a report of a male stabbed downtown, a 19-year-old male victim had sustained 2 significant stab wounds; one to his back and one in the upper leg, he was transported to a local hospital for treatment & emergency surgery. 2 suspects had fled the scene in a white sedan. 1 suspect was identified as 19 year old Christopher Ricketts of Binghamton, the 2nd suspect & driver of the vehicle in question was identified as 18 year old Jeremiah Coqmard of Johnson City. Both were charged with 1st degree Assault both were arraigned in Binghamton City Court and remanded to the custody of the Broome County Correctional Facility, anyone with information is asked to contact the Binghamton Police Detective Bureau by phone at 607-772-7080.
44 year old Richard Robinson of Holland Patent pleaded guilty to Attempted Promoting Prison Contraband in Delaware County Court Tuesday. Robinson was an inmate at the Delaware County Correctional Facility on April 17th, he had 2 small plastic bags with a white powdery residue in a brown paper bag, the substance tested positive for methamphetamine. The case was presented to the Delaware County Grand Jury, Robinson was indicted for Promoting Prison Contraband & Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, sentencing will be on August 25th, Robinson is expected to be sentenced to 1.5 to 3 years in jail.
Walton Police arrested former Walton Teacher Eric Scofield who allegedly violated an Order of Protection by being on school property. Scofield was located on the property of the Walton High School, Scofield was charged with 4 counts of Criminal Contempt, he was arraigned & was being held at the Delaware County Correctional Facility on $50,000 cash bail or $100,000 bond. Scofield was ordered to stay away from the district after an investigation for engaging in improper communications with students.
The Office of the Attorney General will make its Election Protection Hotline available for the June 23rd primary election and during the early voting period, which starts this Saturday, June 13 through Sunday, June 21. Rail Fans are waiting for the Union Pacific Big Boy No. 4014, the world's largest operating steam locomotive, to move through the region in the coming days. as part of a historic coast-to-coast tour to celebrate America's 250th anniversary. A Homeland Security Task Force Investigation Resulted in Convictions for 11 Drug Traffickers from across the Southern Tier, around the state and in Michigan. The 11 defendants involved in an organization distributing large quantities of methamphetamine, cocaine, heroin and other drugs primarily from 2019 to 2021 through Broome, Tioga and Chemung Counties, they also unlawfully possessed firearms as felons or in furtherance of their drug trafficking. Law enforcement seized methamphetamine, & other drugs, over 65 firearms, cash and ATVs. Among those convicted 55 year old David Wemmer, 37 year old David Cobb & 50 year old Brandon Vanorman, all from Spencer, 38 year old Shawn McCabe of Windsor, 39 year old Philip Acciarito of Owego, , 44 year old Jennifer Patton of Spencer & 39 year old Eini Raupers of Candor.
Governor Kathy Hochul announced the award of $6 million in funding through the Innovative Mobility Initiative, which provides funds to transit organizations to expand service offerings and support riders who face barriers to accessing traditional transit. Locations receiving funding include Broome County, they will receive $288,000 awarded to BC Transit to expand geographic coverage beyond the existing transit network.

The Madison County District Attorney, State Police, University Police at SUNY Morrisville and the Madison County Sheriff’s Office announced that an arrest has been made in connection with a shooting on the SUNY Morrisville campus that left a 20-year-old man with a gunshot wound to the neck back on November 3rd of 2025. The victim was not a student, and was taken to Upstate Medical Hospital for emergency surgery. A Madison County grand jury indicted 19 year old Kido Simon on 6 counts, including attempted murder, assault, criminal possession of a weapon and criminal use of a firearm. Simon was a student at SUNY Morrisville at the time of the shooting, he is being held at Madison County Jail on bail set at $1,000,000 cash, $1,500,000 bond and $2,000,000 partially unsecured bond. Simon’s next court appearance is scheduled for June 3 at the Madison County Courthouse. 1 other person is wanted in connection with this case who remains at large.
Governor Kathy Hochul announced the launch of the 2026 Regional Economic Development Council Initiative, eligible REDCs will compete for funding through the $150 million ACHIEVE competition to support high-impact regional projects to advance regional goals. On Friday, State Police arrested Lieutenant Thomas Fellrath of the Otsego County Sheriff’s Office on multiple charges following an investigation by the State Police & the Otsego County District Attorney’s Office. Fellrath is charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Defrauding the Government, Official Misconduct, Fellrath is accused of possessing 10 grams of cocaine during a traffic stop on the New York State Thruway in Herkimer County, At the time of his arrest, Fellrath was on-duty and driving an unmarked Otsego County Sheriff’s Office vehicle outside of Otsego County.
Delaware County has continued to transition operations of the senior meals program after Delaware Opportunities abruptly ceased operating on May 7th. Delaware County Office for the Aging has supported Senior meals both at congregate meal sites and through home meal deliveries. Congregate meal sites are now fully staffed and operational in Delhi, Hancock, Walton & Grand Gorge, the Margaretville senior meals dining center is open and located back in the Margaretville Methodist Church. The Sidney senior dining center has been temporarily relocated to the Sidney Community Cultural Center at 1 Bridge Street in Sidney, today that site will be operational to serve meals on site and prepare meals for home delivery. The County continues to work with the owners of the Sidney Senior Housing site to permanently relocate senior meals back to the senior nutrition site at 21 Liberty Street Sidney. Those interested in county employment, contact the Delaware County personnel office to inquire about these positions.
Governor Hochul's Office announced a 5 year deal has been reached on a contract for the CIVIL SERVICE EMPLOYEE ASSOCIATION, with more than 55,000 New York State Employees. The Contract Includes Yearly Salary Increases, Increases in Location Pay and Changes in Health Benefits, the Contract is Subject to Union Membership Ratification
Delaware County Public Health recommends that pet owners take advantage of any of the free rabies clinics for dogs, cats and ferrets in Delaware County. State Police arrested 44 year old Jason Marsh of Chenango Forks following a rape investigation. Marsh was charged with 1st degree rape, Criminal Obstruction of Breathing & Unlawful Imprisonment, the investigation determined that while at a residence in the town of Greene, Marsh forcibly sexually assaulted, struck and choked the victim, who did escape & contacted police and was evaluated at a local hospital. Marsh was arrested at his residence and later transported to the Chenango County Jail for Centralized Arraignment where he was remanded to the jail pending his next court date on June 4th.
The Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 64 year old Eugene Paulis of Worcester, for Menacing, following an investigation into a dispute involving a subject threatening others with a baseball bat in the Town of Worcester. Paulis was arrested and issued an appearance ticket returnable to the Worcester Town Court at a later date.
Otsego County Board of Representatives announced the purchase of the Cooperstown Holstein property, also known as the Huntington Farm, on County Road 33W, in the Town of Middlefield on Monday. The acquisition will initially allow for improved protection and security for multiple county departments' equipment and will also allow for a secondary entrance into the current campus, which would prevent the isolation of staff if there were ever a failure of the current entrance road. This purchase will also allow for the potential expansion of county facilities.

State Police arrested 37 year old Adam Rowe of Truxton after an investigation of the manufacturing and selling of ghost guns. State Police CSU and Violent Gang and Narcotics Enforcement Team arrested Rowe Sunday, after a search warrant was executed at his residence. Police seized an AR-style ghost gun with a loaded 10-round magazine, plus a host of other weapons, plus Three 3D printers, 3 raccoons & 1 opossum. Rowe was charged with numerous counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition Feeding Device, and 2 counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child, additional charges are pending through the DEC regarding the wildlife. Rowe possessed many firearms and utilized 3D printers to manufacture firearms & components, As a convicted felon on probation, he is prohibited from possessing firearms. 22 year old Angela Dennis of Truxton was charged with 2 counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child. Rowe was processed was being held for Arraignment, Dennis was issued appearance tickets and was released.
The New York State Public Service Commission set temporary rate increases for NYSEG that are less than what the company requested. The temporary rates have no bearing on the Commission’s final determinations, the Commission has 11 months to make a determination on a utility rate filing. The temporary rates set by the Commission start June 1st, the increase for NYSEG customers will be 3.7% percent for electric, 0.5% for gas.
School budgets will be voted on state wide today, as well as Board of Education in school bus purchases in some cases. Check with you local school district website or Facebook page for the times & locations for voting.
The State DOT invites members of the public to view and discuss project plans and construction for the South-side Oneonta Safety and Mobility Improvement Project for State routes 23 and State Route 28. The improvements include extended turning lanes, addition sidewalks, full repaving, and updated pavement markings. The open house will be today at the South-side Community Room at 5006 State Highway 23 in Oneonta, 2 sessions will be held, 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM and 4:00 to 6:00 PM, Construction is expected to start in June and continue through fall of 2027.

Otsego County Sheriff's Office announced the successful use of Thermal Imaging Drone Aids in Locating Missing Person Sunday night. Deputies responded to a call of a missing vulnerable adult in the Town of Edmeston, Deputies quickly initiated a coordinated search & they deployed a Sheriff’s Office Unmanned Aerial System equipped with thermal imaging technology, Using the drone’s advanced capabilities, deputies successfully located the individual in a field. The K-9 team and responding deputies found the missing person, who was suffering from hypothermia and complaining of hip pain. The victim was taken to Bassett Medical Center for further evaluation.
Delaware County Sheriff's Office arrested 30 year old Johnathon Brezinsky of Sidney for Promoting prison contraband at the Delaware County Correctional Facility. Investigators were notified by Correctional Facility Staff that an Inmate was found to be in possession of dangerous contraband within the Facility, Brezinsky was arrested, arraigned and was remanded back to the custody of the Delaware County Correctional Facility on $10,000 dollars cash bail, $20,000 dollars partially secured bond, and he faces court action shortly.
State Police arrested 39 year old Joshua Skobern of Johnson City after an investigation into an arson at self-service car wash in Endicott. Skobern was charged with Criminal Mischief, 5th degree Arson after Troopers responded to Enviro Auto Wash on Watson Boulevard for damage that occurred on April 12, to a car wash payment kiosk. An investigation determined that Skobern punched the payment kiosk then struck it with a spray wand and then used a lighter to burn the face-plate, causing damage. Troopers located Skobern at his residence. He was taken into custody and was processed and was issued appearance tickets to the Union Town Court on April 28.
Delaware Opportunities is contracted to run the County Senior meals program at 6 locations, plus with deliveries, funded through state and federal subsidies, during contract negotiations with the County, officials determined that the program is not sustainable at the current costs, on Tuesday, the County Board of Supervisors Office for the Aging oversight committee moved to provide for a pro-rated contract with Delaware Opportunities to expire on December 31, then in 2027 the Senior Meals program would be administered through the county rather than a 3rd party. If Delaware Opportunities ceases operation immediately, Delaware County would continue the service without interruption as a County-run program, through the Office for the Aging, with no change to site or staff.

Norwich Police executed a search warrant Friday on East Main Street & Arrested 52 year old Delf King, following a Chenango County Court indictment. King was charged with 3 counts of Burglary, Attempted Robbery, and 2nd & 3rd degree Assault. King was arraigned on the charges & was remanded to the Chenango County Jail on $40,000 bail, pending future court action.
The online auction for the Grand Union Plaza at 54 East Main Street in Norwich, began Monday, with a starting bid of $500,000. Norwich Mayor Robert Jeffrey told WCDO News that they are talking to grocery industry people & federal & state lawmakers to try to get interest in the site:

The grocery store at that location closed with little advance warning recently, leaving downtown Norwich without easy access to groceries, and adding to the unemployment rate in the region when all of the workers were let go.

Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 54 year old Shelley Wilkerson of Worcester for Overdriving, torturing and injuring animals and failure to provide sustenance following an investigation into a report of an elderly Great Dane that was dying or deceased at Wilkerson's residence. Deputies found the Great Dane was located outside, the Investigation revealed that Wilkerson allegedly failed to provide proper veterinary care to the dog, which resulted in the dog's death. Wilkerson was arrested and was issued an Appearance Ticket to Town of Worcester Court at a later date.
Greater Opportunities of Broome and Chenango County, recently won the bid from the Norwich School District to purchase Flanagan Field on Plymouth Street in Norwich, they plan to build a $9 million multi-unit apartment project for low-income housing at the site. The sale of the parcel has to be approved by voters in the Norwich School District when they vote on the district budget on May 19th in the Norwich City School District Office, 89 Midland Drive in Norwich.

Walton Fire Department and Emergency Squad were dispatched Sunday at about 2:00 PM to a working structure fire on Fish Hollow Road in the Town of Hamden, that was called in by a passerby. Upon arriving, units found a 2 1/2 story farm house with smoke & flames showing, by 3:00 pm the fire was under control, the structure was a total loss and 1 nearby structure was saved, No injuries were reported to the 3 residents or firefighters, mutual aid was provided by several area Fire Departments.
The National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum will host a Memorial Day Weekend celebration, The Hall of Fame Military Classic: A Tribute to Service and Sacrifice will feature a 7-inning game at Doubleday Field with Hall of Famers Wade Boggs, Rollie Fingers, Todd Helton, Fergie Jenkins, Tony La Russa, Scott Rolen and Joe Torre will serve as managers and coaches as two dozen former big leaguers take the field. Chenango County Sheriff's Office arrested 36 year old Samantha Kilts & 44 year old Kristopher Kovacks, of Smyrna, for Trespass, Criminal Mischief, and Petit Larceny after an investigation into a trespass complaint. It is alleged that Kovack and Kilts unlawfully went on the property of the victim, stole, and damaged items. Kovack and Kilts were arrested and released on appearance tickets to appear in the Town of Sherburne Court at a later date.

22 year old Shawn Lynch of Binghamton, pleaded guilty today to 1st Degree Assault & and will serve 9 years in a State Prison, followed by 5 years of post-release supervision. This conviction stems from a shooting on April 13, 2025, in Binghamton. Binghamton Police responded to a report of shots fired and learned that the victim had been transported to Wilson Hospital, where he underwent emergency surgery and survived. Police determined that the victim had been following his ex-girlfriend in a vehicle when the 2 became involved in an argument, Lynch was in a nearby driveway & fired multiple shots at the victim, striking him in the arm and chest. Sentencing for Lynch is scheduled for June 24th in Broome County Court.

Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 26 year old Anthony Lynn of Unadilla for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance & Introducing Dangerous Contraband, following an investigation in to an inmate being in possession of a controlled substance in the Otsego County Correctional Facility. Investigation revealed that while being admitted to the correctional facility on unrelated charges, Lynn was in possession of cocaine, Lynn turned himself in to the Sheriff’s Office, he was processed, was arraigned and released on his own recognizance.
The State DEC announced another year of safe hunting, nearly 600,000 New Yorkers participate annually, The 2025 hunting season was the safest in New York’s recorded history. The total number of hunting-related shooting incidents was 7, 5 of which were self-inflicted and 2 involved more than one person. 1 incident involved an unlicensed individual who was hunting illegally, DEC also documented 9 falls from tree stands or elevated platforms, including one fatality.
Hartwick College will conduct an emergency response training exercise today, beginning in the late morning and continuing through early afternoon. Emergency vehicles and first responders from local agencies, including the Oneonta Police Department, Oneonta Fire Department, New York State Electric and Gas, Hartwick College campus safety personnel and SUNY Oneonta's volunteer EMS squad, will participate in the coordinated training effort. The State Attorney General’s Office is investigating the death of an unidentified Binghamton man this past weekend. On March 7, Binghamton Police responded to the report of a man in the road blocking a Broome County Transit bus, he eventually climbed onto the front of the bus, resisted arrest, was taken to Binghamton General Hospital for a health evaluation, & was discharged the following day& was taken to Binghamton Police Headquarters, he experienced a medical emergency, officers administered 1st aid until EMT's took him to Wilson Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead. The State DEC & local fire departments remind area residents that the annual burn ban will will take effect March 16th, and will run through May 14th this year. During the Burn Ban, people will not be allowed to have large open fires and the burning of leaves, brush, cardboard are prohibited. The use of fire pits with fireguards, small cooking fires, charcoal and propane gas grills are allowed. The Burn Ban exists due to the high risk of wildfires & grass fires that can occur during the early spring and spread rapidly due to the drier than normal conditions.

State Police at Troop C responded today to the report of a vehicle with a windshield that shattered due to ice falling off of a tractor trailer on I-81. An investigation determined that a tractor trailer and a pick-up truck were traveling north on I-81 when a slab of ice flew off the tractor trailer and fell onto the pick-up behind it, the pick-up truck’s driver side front window and windshield were shattered, the driver tractor trailer did not stop, the operator of the pick-up truck, a 23-year-old male of Camden suffered hand and facial injuries, State Police remind Motorists to brush off snow and ice off their vehicles, The investigation is on-going.

The Otsego County Sheriff’s Office arrested 49 year old Kunga Gyamtso following an investigation of a sexual assault that occurred in the Town of Hartwick. Gyamtso is accused of subjecting a female victim to unwanted forcible sexual acts at his residence in the Town of Hartwick. Evidence was presented to the Otsego County Grand Jury which handed down an indictment for the arrest, for Rape & Criminal Sexual Act, Gyamtso was arraigned in the Otsego County Court and remanded to the Otsego County Correctional Facility on $40,000 cash bail or $400,000 partially secured bond. The Otsego County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Vestal Police Department. .
State Police will be hosting a free child car seat check on Sunday, February 1, between 10 am. and 1 pm. at the Delhi Fire Department located at 140 Delview Terrace Ext. Delhi. Delaware County Deputies responded last July to an investigation in Town of Middletown involving a child, where it was determined that 36-year-old Ariel Devers of Middletown, had endangered the welfare of a child, in September an arrest warrant was issued for Devers by the Town of Middletown Court. On December 30th,Deputies were notified by the Delhi Police Department that Devers was in Delhi, they located, arrested and charged Devers on the warrant, Devers was turned over to the Delaware County Correctional Facility for arraignment.
State Police arrested 26 year old Jason Alicea of New York for Criminal Possession of Stolen Property, after a Trooper observed a speeding vehicle & initiated a traffic stop in Delhi. The Trooper learned that the vehicle was reported stolen to the New York City Police, Alicea was arrested, 2 dogs in the vehicle were turned over to a third party. Alicea was held at the Delaware County Jail for Arraignment.
U.S. Congressman Josh Riley announced the "Tractor Safety Act" which proposes to renew the National ROPS Rebate Program, which covers the cost of putting rollover protective structures on older tractors. The bill proposes to cap ROPS installations at $500, well below the usual cost, Riley's bill has bipartisan support, he hopes to see it pass into law shortly.

State Police arrested 25 year old Cagan Sodan of Greene after he was involved in a domestic dispute. State Police responded to a residence on English Lane in Greene, a Trooper encountered Sodan, who was uncooperative & attempted to grab the Trooper’s service weapon from its holster. The Trooper was able to restrain Sodan and take him into custody. Sodan did have an injury to his hand that he sustained from punching a window, prior to his encounter with the Trooper. The Trooper was not injured. Sodan has been charged with Attempted Robbery, Attempted Assault, Reckless Endangerment, Criminal Mischief & Obstructing Governmental Administration, he was transported to the Chenango County Jail for Centralized Arraignment where he was remanded until his next court date on January 8, 2026.
Otsego County Office of Emergency Services reported that the Garrattsville Fire Department and nearby departments responded to a structure fire at 436 Texas Road in New Lisbon. The house was fully involved, & was a total loss, several cats & a guinea pig were believed to have died in the blaze. One tanker responding to the blaze rolled onto its side in adverse weather conditions, no injuries at the fire or the accident were reported. The cause of the fire is being investigated.
Delaware County Sheriff's Office arrested 41 year old Joseph Jimenez of Walton for Assault, Menacing, and Criminal Possession of a Weapon, following an incident December 10th in Walton. Deputies were dispatched to an assault where Jimenez is accused of engaging in a physical domestic with a tenant of the household in which Jimenez allegedly produced a bladed weapon, stabbing the victim multiple times. Deputies arrested Jimenez was transported to the Delaware County Correctional Facility where he was held pending arraignment.
Chenango County Sheriff's Office arrested 30 year old Richard Garreau of Norwich On January 1st, on an Arrest Warrant and for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance. Members of the Chenango County Sheriff's Office responded to a domestic dispute in the Town of Norwich, Garreau left the scene, officers got a warrant for Garreau’s arrest, he returned to the scene and was taken into custody without incident, he was found to be in possession of methamphetamine and fentanyl and was arraigned & was released on his own recognizance.

State Police arrested 36 year old Nathanael Manwaring of Maine, for allegedly intentionally striking a victim with his pick-up truck, killing the victim. State Police responded Wednesday to the report of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle in a driveway on Lamb Road in the Town of Nanticoke. Manwaring is accused of intentionally striking 41 year old Rodney Clark of Binghamton, following a dispute. Clark was taken to Wilson Hospital by a private vehicle where he succumbed to his injuries. Manwaring has been charged with 2nd degree Murder, 1st degree Manslaughter, he was processed and transported to the Broome County Correctional Facility for Arraignment.

Norwich Police arrested 48 year old Lance Madsen of Norwich, Wednesday after he failed to comply with a traffic stop on Cortland Street. A brief pursuit ensued when Madsen refused to stop his vehicle, the incident concluded safely on County Road 36 in the Town of Norwich after officers were able to box in the vehicle, bringing the pursuit to an end. Madsen is accused of possessing narcotics and a weapon, and he was an active State Parolee. Madsen was charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, (Methamphetamine), Criminal Possession of a Narcotic Drug with Intent to Sell, Criminal Use of Drug Paraphernalia, Unlawful Fleeing a Police Officer in a Motor Vehicle, Resisting Arrest, Possession of a Controlled Substance in a Non-Original Container & Criminal Mischief, he was arraigned & was remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility pending further court proceedings.
State Police arrested 47 year old Kelly Crandall of Oxford for Grand Larceny, after an investigation determined that while working at Mirabito on State Route 12 in the town of Norwich, Crandall stole over $2,000 from store deposits and an ATM machine. Crandall was arrested at her residence and was processed & she was released on an appearance ticket to the Norwich Town Court on October 16th.
Governor Kathy Hochul today announced approximately $391 million in proposed awards under the ConnectALL Deployment Program to 11 internet service providers who have committed a total of more than $245 million in matching funds to address nearly 54,000 locations in the state with insufficient internet access. If approved by the National Telecommunications and Information Administration, the awards will achieve universal broadband connectivity Statewide, locally, over $121 million dollars would go to CBN Geneva, LLC, who serve 7 counties including Chenango, Delaware & Otsego Counties, over $13 million dollars to Citizens Telecommunications, who would serve 1,014 locations in Chenango County with fiber optic technology. Binghamton Police Department was notified by Citizen’s Bank Officials that an elderly female customer, had just withdrawn $30,000 cash, Binghamton Police responded to the member’s residence to conduct a wellness check. Investigators determined that the customer was going to be a victim of an elder scam, involving financial exploitation, under fraudulent circumstances. A sting operation was coordinated, a male suspect approached the victim’s residence, believing that the $30,000 cash was going to be provided to him. The suspect was confronted by Police, he fled and was taken into police custody. A 2nd suspect, in a vehicle nearby, was also taken into custody. Police arrested 51 year old Tao Zeng & 36 year old Zhilei Wu, both of Flushing, for Grand Larceny, Conspiracy, they face court action on the charges shortly.

The Chenango County Sheriff’s Office arrested 38 year old Victor Martinez of Allentown Pennsylvania & 44 year old Osnely Arago of Miami Florida following an investigation into the theft of approximately $70,000 worth of diesel fuel stolen from local businesses, they reviewed security footage from several affected locations, which provided key vehicle descriptions, Monday, Deputies observed a vehicle matching the description of the suspected vehicle at a local gas station, the suspects were engaged in stealing diesel fuel. A search warrant was executed & they recovered 85 stolen credit cards, Card skimming devices, Electronic equipment used to steal Debit and Credit Card information & custom storage tanks able to hold over 1000 gallons of fuel, both were charged with 87 counts of Grand Larceny, Unlawful Possession of a Skimmer Device, Martinez and Arago were both arraigned and were released on their own recognizance, The investigation is ongoing, and the Chenango County Sheriff's Office is working with multiple agencies across the state.
The Broome County Sheriff’s Corrections Investigation Unit successfully recovered multiple weapons and contraband within the Correctional Facility, leading to 14 felony charges for 48 year old Robert Swartz of Binghamton, who was being held on a burglary charge. 20 Attorney's General including New York State, are suing the Trump Administration over its efforts to obtain data from the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, also known as SNAP. According to the lawsuit, the Department of Agriculture is improperly attempting to gather sensitive personal information from low-income families who use the program, including social security numbers and home addresses. New York Attorney General Letitia James reported that it was not the 1st time this administration has tried to use federal agencies to access Americans’ personal data, recently a federal judge declined to stop the IRS from sharing sensitive taxpayer information with federal immigration authorities.

The FBI announced that 44 year old Brent Trimbell of Hobart was arrested Sunday evening for sexual exploitation of a child. Trimbell is accused of exchanging sexually explicit messages with a female child victim, persuading her to create and send him videos of her engaged in sexually explicit conduct, having sexual contact with the victim at least 3 times and sending the victim sexually explicit videos. Trimbell was charged by state authorities with state sex offenses, but last week he was released on bail. If convicted, Trimbell faces 15 to 30 years in Jail, a term of supervised release of at least 5 years to life after serving a prison term, register as a sex offender, pay a fine of $250,000, forfeiture of property used to commit the offenses, and he would have to pay restitution to the victim. FBI officials worked with the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office and U.S. Attorney’s Office, Trimbell was remanded to the custody of the United States Marshals Service pending further proceedings.
State Police are investigating a death of a 16-year-old female following a medical emergency on Saturday, a Trooper responded to a residence on State Route 41 in McGraw, for an unresponsive juvenile, she was unconscious & CPR was already in progress, she was taken to Guthrie Cortland Medical Center & was pronounced deceased a short time later. An investigation by the State Police BCU is ongoing, more information will be released following an autopsy.

Governor Kathy Hochul declared a state of emergency in 32 New York counties after severe thunderstorms resulted in 3 deaths and thousands of power outages across parts of the state, and due to the forecast of extreme heat expected to last through Wednesday. The National Weather Service has confirmed a tornado touched down early Sunday morning in Clark Mills, 3 people were killed from the Storms, The state of emergency exists in Broome, Chenango, Delaware & Otsego Counties locally.
Broome County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a stolen rental car, where the victim stated that he had rented an SUV from Enterprise, but it had been stolen by his girlfriend, Christine Turner, who took the vehicle to Rochester and would not be returning the rental. On Friday, the missing SUV was located in Binghamton, patrols attempted a traffic stop, but Turner failed to comply, she eventually stopped & was forcibly removed from the vehicle, and her passenger, Christina Yacalis, were both placed into custody. Turner was charged with Grand Larceny, Criminal Possession of Stolen Property, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Obstruction of Governmental Administration & Multiple traffic violations, Yacalis was charged with Criminal Possession of Controlled Substances, both were arraigned and were released on appearance tickets returnable to the Town of Maine Court & City of Binghamton Court.
State Police conducted an Underage Drinking Detail in Chenango County Thursday. All of the businesses checked were in compliance and did not sell alcohol to an underaged operative. Businesses that complied included area Mirabito Quickway stores, Stewarts Shops, Speedways & privately owned liquor stores in Norwich, & Sherburne. During these investigations, businesses are checked utilizing a Trooper in plain clothes and one or several underage operatives who cannot lie about their age or provide a false date of birth.
The State DEC announced several proposed regulation changes to streamline use and reporting of hunting tags and provide new deer hunting opportunities. First, DEC proposes a process for using electronic carcass tags for deer, bear, and turkey. Second, DEC proposes to provide a replacement regular season deer tag to youth hunters who successfully use that tag during the Youth Big Game Hunt weekend. Crotts was charged with Driving while intoxicated, Driving while ability impaired by drugs, Criminal possession of a controlled substance & Miscellaneous Traffic Citations, The investigation revealed that Crotts had been operating a motor vehicle while impaired by drugs he was arrested and later released after the issuance of appearance tickets for Town of Oneonta court at a later date.
Governor Kathy Hochul will deliver the 2025 STATE OF THE STATE ADDRESS on Tuesday, January 14, 2025 at 1:00 PM. the address will be delivered before a joint session of the legislature at the Hart Theater at The Egg in the Empire State Plaza in Albany.
Starting January 1st, the minimum wage will go up 50 cents, followed by another 50-cent increase starting January 1, 2026. 30 year old Joshua Mazyck of Endicott, pleaded guilty to Attempted Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree and will serve 6 years in New York State Prison followed by 5 years post release supervision as a second felony in Broome County Court. On June 5, after a traffic stop and subsequent investigation by State Police, Mazyck was found to be in possession of fentanyl, packaging materials, a loaded handgun, cutting agents, and a digital scale.

State Police issued a total of 24,191 tickets statewide during this year’s special Thanksgiving holiday traffic enforcement period, from Saturday, November 23, through Sunday, December 1st. Troopers arrested 251 people for DWI and investigated 1,259 crashes, including three fatal crashes. In the Southern Tier there were 1146 total tickets issued.
Otsego County Sheriffs arrested 47-year-old Timothy Stone of Cooperstown Friday, based on a report of physical child abuse at a residence in the Town of Middlefield. Further investigation revealed that Stone was involved in a domestic dispute with a pregnant juvenile, allegedly placing the juvenile in a choke-hold before throwing the victim on the floor, causing unknown injuries. Stone was located by Oneida County Sheriffs and taken into custody without further incident. Stone was charged with 3rd-degree Assault, Criminal Obstruction of Breathing, Endangering the Welfare of a Child, an order of protection has been requested on behalf of the victim.
State Police were dispatched Thursday by the Delaware County 911 Center to an assault on County Route 17 in the town of Hancock. 40 year old Nelson Lopez of Roscoe, violated an order of protection and caused physical injury to Julianna Stowers-Lopez of Roscoe, who also caused serious injury to Lopez by stabbing him in the upper body. Both suffered non-life-threatening injuries and were transported by separate ambulances to Wilson Medical Center. Both were released from the hospital Friday, Lopez was charged Criminal Contempt & 2nd degree Assault, Stowers-Lopez was charged with 1st degree Assault, Both were transported to the Delaware County Correctional Facility for Centralized Arraignment.
27 year old Martha Clemons of Oxford was arrested by the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office for Burglary, Grand Larceny, Criminal Mischief, Harassment and Resisting Arrest. Deputies responded to a domestic dispute, Clemens is accused of unlawfully and forcefully entering a residence and stole the victim’s dog, struck the victim, refused to comply with Deputies orders to come out of the residence. An arrest warrant was then signed, And Clemens was taken into custody, & was arraigned in the Town of Oxford Court and released on her own recognizance. Clemens is to appear in the Town of Oxford Court at a later date.

Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 23 year old Kristian Deloatch of Oneonta following a traffic stop Sunday in the Town of Oneonta. Deloatch was charged with Reckless Driving & Speed Over 55 mph, he is accused of driving at approximately 40 mph over the posted speed limit, he was issued an Appearance Ticket and scheduled to appear in the Town of Oneonta Court at a later date.
State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli that Governor Hochul has signed legislation that amends the Abandoned Property Law to authorize the Comptroller to administer an expedited payment program, which eliminates the need for persons and organizations to submit a claim for abandoned property of $250 or less. The average claim paid out is between $50 and $100. Every day, DiNapoli's office returns over $1.5 million.
On Monday at the DEP Offices on Smith Street in Kingston, community leaders gathered to announce a new initiative to improve wireless connectivity across the watershed. New York City DEP Commissioner Aggarwala discussed the project’s aim to build wireless infrastructure that will not only enhance DEP operations but also address the gaps in connectivity affecting local communities. The project will help fill in "dead zones" along critical roadways and ensure better communications for first responders, in areas where cell service is unreliable. The DEP's ability to create this infrastructure on their land will allow private wireless carriers to also utilize it to provide much-needed service boost to residents and businesses.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies received a complaint last week regarding a stolen vehicle from a driveway in the Town of Tompkins. Deputies were contacted by State Police, as they had located the vehicle parked at a residence in the Town of Bainbridge. 37 year old Aaron Howard of Walton was charged with Grand Larceny, Criminal Possession of Stolen Property and Unauthorized use of a Motor Vehicle. 36 year old Courtney Condon of Walton was charged with Grand Larceny and Criminal Possession of Stolen Property.
A pilot and a rescue dog he was transporting to an animal shelter were killed when a small plane crashed near Windham Sunday. 49 year old Seuk Kim of Springfield Virginia was flying from Maryland to Albany, when his plane crashed, 2 other dogs on the plane survived. Kim died on impact, the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board were investigating the crash.
Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 68 year old Frederick Pangburn of Schoharie for 2 counts of Grand Larceny, following an investigation in to a report of possible extortion. Pangburn allegedly threatened to post intimate photographs of a victim online if he was not given the victim’s vehicle and additional cash, he was located in Worcester and taken in to custody & was being held at the Otsego County Correctional Facility to await Centralized Arraignment. A request for an order of protection was made on behalf of the victim.

Lambrecht Auction in Sidney held their 2nd Annual Sidney EMS Charity event Saturday at their Sidney Location on Delaware Avenue. Jared Lambrecht told WCDO News this afternoon that they raised $50,800 for the Sidney Emergency Squad, that is in need of a new fully loaded ambulance, which costs about $250,000. Last year they raised $18,000 in their 1st charity auction effort for the Emergency squad.
Chenango County Sheriff's Office arrested 38 year old Michael VanDerWeert of Guilford & 47 year old Dawn Cavanaugh of North Carolina, for Burglary, Petty Larceny, Criminal Mischief and Conspiracy. Deputies responded to a burglary complaint at a business in the Town of Norwich, where someone broke into the building and stole multiple items. The vehicle used in the burglary was spotted at a business in the Village of Oxford, VanDerWeert and Cavanaugh were arrested and transported to the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office where they were released on appearance tickets to appear in the Town of Norwich Court at a later date.
Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies responded Saturday to an ATV crash near Fuller Hollow Road in the Town of Hamden. Prior to Deputies’ arrival, Delaware County 911 reported that a victim had been privately transported to Delaware Valley Hospital in the Village of Walton with a second victim still on scene. Deputies located the 2nd victim, an 11-year-old male, at a residence, who was transported to Albany Medical Center by Life Net for non-life-threatening injuries. The 1st Victim was a 13-year-old female who was pronounced deceased at the Delaware Valley Hospital, due to injuries sustained from the crash.
Local sales tax collections in New York state increased by 2.3% in October according to State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli. Local collections totaled $1.84 billion for the month, up $41 million from the previous October, County and city collections outside of New York City increased by only .4%, 36 of 57 counties experienced year-over-year increases.

The FEMA authorized the use of federal funds to assist in combating the Catskills Wildfires, The Grant Declaration will allow for funding to help cover costs associated with responding to the Jennings Creek/Sterling State Park wildfire and protecting those in its path. Statewide there were 13 wildfires reported Sunday, encompassing more than 5,000 acres, the state wide burn ban remains in effect.
State Police at Troop C in Sidney announced that 24 people were charged with DWI, from the period of November 1st through November 12th. State Police will continue with DWI patrols, with increased efforts during the upcoming Thanksgiving & Christmas Holiday seasons.
Firefighters from Sidney Center & surrounding departments responded to the report of a structure fire late Sunday morning at 1129 Vandervoort Hill Road. The fire was contained to the basement and was quickly extinguished, no injuries were reported.
U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand will join elected officials and educators to encourage Binghamton University students to apply to the DoD Cyber Service Academy scholarship program, which provides full college tuition in return for public service in the Department of Defense or the Intelligence Community. Successful applicants will serve one year in the DoD or the IC as a civilian employee for each year of their scholarship. Gillibrand's event begins at 3:00 this afternoon at the Binghamton University Innovative Technologies Complex at 85 Murray Hill Road in Vestal.

The Sidney Village Board met last night, & there were questions regarding an additional charge added to the water bill starting September 1st. Delaware County Sheriff's Office arrested 54 year old Stephen Kiss of Davenport for Criminal Contempt and Harassment following an Order of Protection Violation incident, in the Town of Davenport. On August 14th, Deputies responded to the Charlotte Creek Mobile Home Park, Deputies found that the victim had been harassed by Kiss while an order of protection was in place, On August 19th, Deputies arrested Kiss, he was held at the Delaware County Correctional Facility to await centralized arraignment.
The State Department of Labor today released local area unemployment rates for July, the State's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate increased from 4.2% to 4.3% in July, Locally, Chenango County had 3.7% Unemployment, Delaware County had 4.5% & Otsego County 4.3% in July.

Former Congressman George Santos pleaded guilty to wire fraud and aggravated identity theft, he could face 7 years in prison under the terms of a plea agreement with federal prosecutors. Santos is scheduled to be sentenced on February 7th.
Delaware County Sheriff's Office arrested 75 year old Wayne Sparling of Walton for Aggravated Harassment. On July 23rd, Deputies received a complaint of a dispute between neighbors, they requested an Arrest Warrant from the Town of Walton Court. On August 7th, Deputies received an Arrest Warrant and arrested Sparling, he was turned over to the Delaware County Correctional Facility for Centralized Arraignment Processing.

State Trooper Christopher DiBartolo of Troop F in Middletown was arrested for 1st degree Robbery, criminal mischief & Officials Misconduct, following an investigation of an incident outside a residence in the village of Liberty in 2023. The victim came forward after he was involved in an incident with DiBartolo while he was on duty, reporting that Trooper DiBartolo took personal property from him, causing damage. DiBartolo was arraigned in the Town of Liberty Court and released on his own recognizance until the next court date scheduled for August 27, he has been suspended without pay from his position as a State Trooper.
The Rite Aid Pharmacy chain announced that they have closed 25 in New York state, and they will close another 29 by the end of this year. The Rite Aid at 94 Chestnut Street in Oneonta is slated to be closed, the chain has filed for bankruptcy protection in 2023, the chain is expected to close about 1000 of the existing 1800 stores in the US within the next year.
Village of Sidney officials announced that starting on September 1st, there will be an added "Manganese Removal Capital Project Debt Service" fee of $34.35 per quarter on your water bill. The fee goes for financing the new well, new infrastructure and new water treatment facility, the fee will be on all future quarterly water billings.

The Delaware County DA's Office announced that 32 year old James Lor of Margaretville pleaded guilty to aggravated cruelty to animals in Delaware County Court this week. Lor admitted that he had killed a dog, he was sentenced to 1 1/3 to 4 years in jail for committing this act, which violated the terms of his probation.
Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 39 year old Michael Hitchcock of Otego for Criminal possession of a controlled substance & on an existing warrant, Hitchcock was arrested following an investigation into a motor vehicle accident in the Town of Oneonta, he was found to be in possession of a controlled substance, and was wanted on a warrant from Oneonta Police, he was processed & issued an appearance ticket, he was then transported to Oneonta Police Department and turned over to answer his outstanding warrant.

Johnson Bennett said that the deceased woman has been identified as Carol Luistro of Edison New Jersey, there were a few other people who suffered minor injuries, she also said that the National Weather Service Damage Assessment Team investigated the affected areas Sunday evening, they reported that it was part of a band of thunderstorms that impacted eastern Delaware and western Sullivan Counties on Sunday morning.
42 year old Thomas Mould of Stamford was indicted for Criminal Sexual Act, Forcible Touching and Endangering the Welfare of a Child by the Delaware County Grand Jury on June 27th. Mould is accused of engaging in sexual conduct with a victim less than 17 years old in Stamford on June 22nd, Forcible Touched the intimate parts of another person, and he did knowingly act in a manner likely to be injurious to the physical mental or moral welfare of a child. Mould faces the potential of being sentenced to life in prison if he is convicted and sentenced as a persistent felony offender.

State Police arrested 67 year old Eric Halstead of Candor, for Corrupting the Government & 3rd degree Grand Larceny, following an investigation by State Police with the Office of the State Comptroller. An investigation revealed that over several years while Halstead was Mayor of the Village of Candor, he withdrew over $23,000 dollars in cash from a Village account for personal use, Halstead replaced approximately $19-thousand dollars but still owes money to the Village of Candor. Halstead was arrested and Arraigned & he was released on his own recognizance and scheduled to appear in the Candor Town Court on August 5th.

State Police responded to a report of a domestic dispute on County Highway 47 in the town of Oneonta. 37 year old Timothy White of Oneonta was in possession of long guns and a victim was fearful of White’s past actions that could lead to further harm. While issuing an Extreme Risk Protection Order, Troopers observed numerous firearms and narcotics related items which further resulted in a search warrant of White’s residence, where Police seized methamphetamines, heroin, pills, scales, packaging materials & 2 rifles with defaced serial numbers White was charged with multiple counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance & Criminal Possession of a Weapon, he was arraigned & was remanded on $50,000 cash or $100,000 property bond.
State Police were dispatched to Thursday to Jericho Road in the town of Bainbridge to a suspicious male and vehicle parked in the driveway of a residence where he didn't belong. While attempting to interview the uncooperative driver, Troopers smelled an odor of an alcoholic beverage. 28 year old Jacob Roach of Frankfort was arrested, Troopers discovered that the vehicle was stolen from a lot in Binghamton, Roach was charged with DWI, Criminal Possession of Stolen Property, Obstructing Governmental Administration, Obstructing Emergency Medical Services, Roach was transported to the Chenango County Jail for Centralized Arraignment.
An Investigation by the State Attorney General's Office will begin shortly, following the shooting by Utica Police of a 13 year old Friday night. Utica's Crime Prevention Unit conducted a stop of two juveniles related to an ongoing investigation, one of them fled on foot and displayed what appeared to officers to be a handgun, an un-named officers discharged his weapon and shot the teen, who succumbed to his injuries at an area hospital.

Officers seized methamphetamines in Rosler’s backpack, he was charged with Reckless Endangerment, 3 counts of Unlawful Fleeing a Police Officer, Resisting Arrest, Hindering Prosecution, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Conspiracy & Over 50 traffic violations through 3 jurisdictions, Baker was charged with Conspiracy & Hindering Prosecution, he is accused of filming the chase & convincing Rosler to keep the chase going. Rosler and Baker were processed, Baker was released on appearance tickets and Rosler remains in custody at the Broome County Correctional Facility.

State Police responded Saturday to the Tioughnioga River in the town of Lisle regarding a possible drowning. The investigation determined that an 11-year-old male from Marathon, was fishing with friends and decided to jump in the water to swim when he went under the water and didn't resurface due to the strong current. At 7:15 pm., the victim was located deceased in approximately eight feet-deep water by the Broome County Dive Team. There were no signs of foul play, and the scene was consistent with an accidental drowning.
The National Weather Service has rated a Saturday tornado in West Winfield as an EF-1, with winds in excess of 100 MPH. Investigators determined that the tornado began near the intersection of Meeting House Road and Marriot Road and moved east southeast ending east of New York State Route 51." Several Structures were damaged during the tornado, with a canoe ending up draped over power lines

Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 39 year old Robert Colvin of Unadilla for criminal contempt for violating a court order of protection. Colvin violated the order of protection by calling the protected person from the Otsego County Correctional Facility 107 times since his initial incarceration, he had also previously been convicted of Criminal Contempt in the second degree within the past five years.
51 year old David Louden of Sidney pleaded guilty to Criminal Contempt Monday in Delaware County Court, on December 13th, Sidney Police were dispatched when Louden, who was barred from contacting either the victim or the child, was outside knocking at the front door at 2:45 am, Louden fled the scene, but On January 11, Sidney police located & arrested Louden. Sentencing is scheduled to take place on July 15.
Broome County Sheriff Road Patrol deputies responded to a one-car motor vehicle accident on Anderson Road in the Town of Nanticoke early Sunday. Deputies found a 2013 Chevrolet over an embankment on the side of the road, 2 of the 5 occupants in the vehicle sustained serious injuries and were transported to UHS Wilson Medical Center. 20 year old Isaac Brown of Whitney Point stated he was operating the vehicle without a license and admitted to consuming alcohol prior to the accident. Brown was charged with DWI, Vehicular Assault, Aggravated Vehicular Assault & Numerous Traffic Violations, Brown was arraigned and issued appearance tickets to appear in the Town of Nanticoke Court at a later date.

36 year old David Lettieri of Harpursville was convicted by a federal jury of enticement of a minor & was sentenced to serve 240 months in prison. In October 2020, Lettieri traveled from Broome County to meet a 13-year-old girl in a park in Wyoming County with the intent of having sexual intercourse, however sexual contact did not occur. The investigation recovered sexual communications between Lettieri and the victim, leading to his arrest & conviction.
Delaware County Sheriff’s Office arrested 64 year old Richard Lamsen of Delhi following a harassment complaint in the Town of Delhi. On April 27th, Deputies were dispatched to a harassment complaint that had occurred at Curtis Lumber in Delhi, where Lamsen allegedly engaged in a physical altercation with the victim, which impeded the normal breathing of the victim. Deputies received a criminal summons from the Town of Delhi Court for Harassment and Criminal obstruction of breathing, he was released to appear before the Town of Delhi Court on a later date to answer the charges.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Office arrested 29 year old Mercedes Torres of Oneonta on an Arrest Warrant for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Tampering with Physical Evidence, Aggravated Unlicensed Operator and other related charges, stemming from a traffic stop investigation on April 1st. Deputies received notification Wednesday from State Police that they had Torres in custody for charges following a traffic stop and for an Arrest Warrant in Davenport. On Wednesday, State Police, members of the Broome County Sheriff's Department, members of the Department of Transportation, family and friends joined the Skinner family remembering Trooper Christopher Skinner who was killed 10 years ago while conducting a traffic stop on Interstate 81 in the town of Chenango. Trooper Skinner was remembered at the site where he was struck on Interstate 81 between exits 7 and 8, he had been patrolling a construction zone and had made a traffic stop. He was in the process of interviewing the operator when a passing vehicle veered from the driving lane to intentionally strike Trooper Skinner. Trooper Skinner was killed instantly; he was 42 years old and a 13-year veteran, Almond Upton was convicted in 2016 of Murder in the first degree and died in prison in 2018.

61 year old Duane Gardepe of Masonville was indicted by a Delaware County Grand Jury for an alleged sexual assault on May 9th. Gardepe was charged with Attempted Rape, Kidnapping, Criminal Sexual Act, Sexual Abuse & Aggravated Sexual Abuse among several other related charges, he is accused of sexually assaulted the victim at gunpoint while refusing to allow her to leave his residence. Gardepe faces up to 25 years in state prison on each of the felonies and a mandatory post-release supervision period of up to 20 years.
42 year old Amy Kille of Walton appeared in Delaware County Court Monday, she had previously pled guilty to DWI & Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle, on August 30, 2023, a Delaware County Deputy observed a vehicle repeatedly swerving, during the traffic stop the Deputy discovered that Kille’s license had been revoked for a prior DWI, her BAC was later determined to be .25%, more than 3 times the state's legal limit. Kille was sentenced to a 5-year term of probation supervision subject to the successful completion of Adult Treatment Court, her license was revoked and she was ordered her to install an ignition interlock device in any vehicle she may eventually own or operate.

State Police at Sidney arrested 61 year old Duane Gardepe of Masonville, after a domestic dispute at a residence on Axtell Road in the town of Masonville. Gardepe has been charged with 1st degree Rape, Criminal Sexual Act, Kidnapping, Sexual Abuse, Aggravated Sexual Abuse, Unlawful Imprisonment, Menacing & Criminal Mischief, An investigation revealed that Gardepe menaced and threatened a victim, prevented the victim from leaving, calling 911 and forced unwanted sexual acts. Gardepe was processed and arraigned, he was remanded to the Delaware County Jail without bail.
State Police arrested 22 year old Zachary Hoffman Kowatch, of Arkville for Reckless Endangerment as a Hate Crime, Endangering the Welfare of a Child and Aggravated Unlicensed Operation. On May 9, Hoffman Kowatch was in a vehicle on Main Street in the village of Fleischmanns when he began yelling anti-semitic remarks at a teenager who was riding a bicycle, he attempted to intentionally strike the teenager and an adult with his vehicle while yelling obscenities and making anti-Semitic remarks before fleeing the scene. Hoffman Kowatch was located at his residence in Arkville and arrested, he was arraigned & was remanded to the Delaware County Jail on no bail.
Local sales tax collections in New York state increased by 1.5% in April compared to the same month in 2023, according to data released today by State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli. Overall, local collections totaled $1.76 billion, up $26.1 million from the same time last year. New York City's collections increased 3.9%, County and city collections in the rest of the state decreased -0.5%. 25 of 57 counties experienced year-over-year decreases.
Governor Hochul announced the launch of Round 14 of the Regional Economic Development Council Initiative, which includes $445 million in grant and tax-credit funding combined with a wide range of programs from 8 state agencies, Empire State Development is launching the Capital Improvement Grants for Pro-Housing Communities Program and the Small Manufacturer Modernization Grants Program. Broome County Sheriff's Office arrested a Kirkwood man for 3 gas station robberies. The 1st Robbery was on May 9th, at the Speedway gas station on Route 7 in Sanitaria Springs, where a male with a black shirt wrapped around his hand, implying he had a weapon, and grabbed a cash register & fled the scene in a gray Ford F-150 pickup truck. The 2nd Robbery was at the Mirabito gas station on Old Route 17 in Windsor, Sheriff Deputies identified the suspect vehicle and potential suspect as 46 year old Clint Loomis of Kirkwood. On Friday, a 3rd Robbery occurred at a gas station in Greene, Loomis was located on Route 12 in the Town of Chenango, A Deputy attempted to conduct a traffic stop, Loomis resisted, a Taser was deployed but Loomis drove off, Tire deflation devices were set up, Loomis damaged his tires but continued to flee, eventually leaving the vehicle on foot, he was apprehended. Loomis was wanted on a warrant, & was charged with Robbery, Obstructing governmental administration, reckless endangerment, unlawfully fleeing Police, Resisting arrest & 26 traffic violations, he was being held for arraignment.
Oneonta Fire Fighters responded to a fire Sunday morning on Columbia Street, several occupants escaped, the fire began on the 1st floor, The cause of the fire is under investigation, the house is uninhabitable.
Governor Hochul announced the opening of the application period for $50 million in funding for law enforcement agencies across New York State. 36 year old Ryan Wood of Sidney pleaded guilty to in Delaware County Court to Attempted Criminal Sale of a controlled substance. Wood sold Fentanyl to an undercover Police Informant in Sidney Last September, he was indicted in February on the charge and pleaded guilty this week in Delhi, sentencing will be held at a later date.
Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 29 year old Jacob Nack of Laurens for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, as well as for Executing a Bench Warrant. Nack was arrested following an investigation into a Domestic Incident in the Town of Laurens, he was found to have an active bench warrant out of the City of Oneonta and was also found to be in possession of a controlled substance, Nack was turned over to the Oneonta Police for the outstanding warrant, he will appear in Town of Laurens Court on the drug charge at a later date.
Broome County Sheriff's Office arrested 43 year old Himichal Sagar of India for scamming a senior citizen out of $36,000. The Liberty Police Department investigated a report of an elaborate scam that stole $36,000 from a 76-year-old Liberty resident, who had a potential virus on her computer, was contacted by someone claiming to work for the virus company, he convinced her to withdraw the money from her accounts and gave it to the man to put in a safer account while the virus was removed. Investigators found Sagar's rented vehicle at a hotel parking lot in the Town of Dickinson, Broome County deputies were called to assist and Sagar was taken into custody, the full amount of $36,000 was recovered. Sagar was charged with 3rd degree Grand Larceny & was released with an appearance ticket, but was ordered to surrender his passport to the court.
The USDA announced that Cargill Meat Solutions of Hazleton, Pennsylvania, is recalling approximately 16,243 pounds of raw ground beef products. The ground beef products were produced on April 26 & 27th, with an establishment number of "EST 86P" printed on the back of the label. 39 year old Timothy Jarczynski of Maryland pleaded guilty to DWI in Davenport Town Court & was sentenced to a 1-year conditional discharge. On September 28, 2022, a citizen called 911 to report an erratic driver on State Route 23, after following Jarczynski for approximately 10 minutes, he crashed into a ditch where a State Trooper determined that Jarczynski was impaired at the time of the accident. Jarczynski was sentenced to a 1-year conditional discharge and his license was revoked, he was ordered to attend a victim impact panel and successfully complete the impaired driver’s program, If he obtains a driver’s license, he will be required to install an ignition interlock device in any vehicle he owns or operates, he could still face 1 year in jail if he violates any of these conditions.
Delaware County Sheriff's Office arrested 23 year old Jarrett Griffin of Walton on an arrest warrant issued out of the Town of Tompkins Court. 45 year old Katrina Lott of West Edmeston pleaded guilty to Driving While Intoxicated and was sentenced to 3 years of probation, in Deposit Town Court last week. A State Trooper responded to the crash scene and determined that Lott was likely under the influence of alcohol when open containers were spotted in the vehicle. Syracuse Police Officers encountered a suspicious vehicle Sunday Night, they attempted a traffic stop & the vehicle took off, officers did get the License plate number, it was traced to a Liverpool address to stop the vehicle, Syracuse Police & Onondaga Sheriff's Deputies responded & were encountered by an armed male and an exchange of gunfire followed. One Syracuse Police Officer and one Onondaga County Sheriff’s Deputy were struck by gunfire. The armed suspect was also shot, all 3 were taken to Upstate University Hospital, all 3 succumbed to their injuries.

CONVALT of Watertown is believed to be the purchaser as they announced on their website their plans to build their main factory, in Sidney with a targeted date of commercial operation in the 1st quarter of 2025.
24-year-old Kelvin Marfo of Delhi was charged with Aggravated Unlicensed Operator of a Motor Vehicle, plus other charges following an accident investigation. On April 6th Deputies responded to an iPhone Crash Detection for a motor vehicle accident on State Highway 28 in the Town of Meredith. Deputies found the motor vehicle accident, 2 of the occupants were transported for non-life-threatening injuries to a local hospital, while 2 others were treated by EMS. Marfo’s driving privileges were suspended for Failing to Answer a Summons, Marfo was issued an Appearance Ticket to appear before the Town of Meredith Court at a later date.
Last Wednesday, Oneonta Police Department was called to investigate a reported gunshot wound by A.O. Fox hospital emergency room staff. Officers learned that 51-year-old John Walley of Otego was transported to the hospital by a third party in a private vehicle, which left before police arrived. Walley was interviewed briefly and stated that he was on Chestnut Street when he was injured by a bullet, no evidence at the scene was found, he was re-interviewed & has refused to cooperate. The case will be closed but may be re-opened should additional information be received and the victim agree to cooperate. Broome County Sheriff's Office arrested 18 year old Steven Cook of Vestal for Attempted Use of a Child in a Sexual Performance, Endangering the Welfare of a Child, Obstruction of Governmental Administration, Cook is accused of soliciting pornographic images from a 12-year-old girl. Deputies responded last week to a 911 report from a 12-year-old victim in the Town of Union, who informed investigators that she had been talking and exchanging explicit messages with Cook where he allegedly attempted to initiate sexual contact with the minor and attempting to solicit pornographic images from her. During the execution of a search warrant, Cook was uncooperative with investigators, but was eventually taken into custody, Cook remains in the custody of the Broome County Sheriff’s Office awaiting arraignment.
Broome County District Attorney's office announced that 38 year old Andrew Bethune of Binghamton was sentenced in Broome County Court to 4 years in New York State Prison, followed by 3 years of post-release supervision for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance. On January 25, 2023, authorities conducted a search of Bethune's apartment located at 111 Oak Street, Apartment 4 in Binghamton, they seized cocaine, fentanyl & methamphetamines, plus packaging materials, a digital scale and $5,481 in cash from suspected drug sales.
National Baseball Hall of Fame Chairman of the Board Jane Forbes Clark announced that a Hank Aaron statue will be unveiled at the National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown on May 23. The bronze representation of Aaron will be installed on the first floor of the Museum. Aaron was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1982 following a 23-year big league career with the Braves and Brewers, Aaron launched his 715th career home run 50 years ago today. Aaron’s Hall of Fame plaque made a rare appearance outside of the Hall of Fame Plaque Gallery when it traveled to Atlanta for today’s event, the plaque will also be featured at Truist Park today for fans to view at this evening’s Braves-Mets game.

A raccoon tested positive for rabies in the town of Meredith. This is the first laboratory confirmed positive case of rabies in Delaware County in 2024. A rabid raccoon entered a cow barn in the town of Meredith and attacked and bit a cow. The raccoon was sent for testing to the State Department of Health Wadsworth Laboratory. The cow that was attacked and bitten has been euthanized. There were no human exposures, and no other domestic animals were exposed to the rabid raccoon. Brian Mulder of Union Grove Distillery in Arkville, will appear on Discovery Channel’s Moonshiners: Master Distiller program. 3 distillers from across the United States compete to become Master Distiller. The State Police are working alongside other state agencies in preparation for the solar eclipse at approximately 3:00 PM today, with a narrow path of totality across Buffalo, Rochester, Syracuse, Watertown, Lake Placid and Plattsburgh. Motorists who must travel in the areas impacted by the eclipse are asked to allow for extra travel time due to expected large volumes of traffic.
