The Otsego County Office of Emergency Services announced that resources were deployed to assist Erie County recover from a historic series of storms. On Tuesday, Otsego County Special Operations Team members were activated to respond with equipment & personnel for a 72-hour deployment to assist with stranded residents or those in need of medical attention. On Wednesday, December 28, Otsego County Highway Department deployed 10 personnel with various pieces of equipment to assist with the clearing of roadways and impassable streets, they are expected to be working 12-hour periods each session into Monday

An American Red Cross Blood Drive is being held today at the A.O. Fox Tri-Town Campus, from 1:30 PM to 6:30 PM, in the Conference Room N-112. The Red Cross is experiencing a blood shortage due to the cancellation of blood drives and has issued an emergency request for all blood types. The Broome County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fentanyl overdose that occurred at the jail last Friday. The unidentified 34-year-old inmate was found by a correctional officer, 1st aid was administered, the inmate was taken to Wilson Regional Medical Center for further medical attention. The investigation into the incident is continuing.

The Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 26 year old Kynisha Atkinson of Oneonta following a recent traffic stop in the Town of Oneonta. Atkinson was found to be operating a motor vehicle on a public highway with a suspended registration on September 25th, she will appear in Town of Oneonta court at a later date.

Governor Kathy Hochul today announced more than $246 million from FEMA to support counter-terrorism and emergency preparedness efforts across New York. The New York State Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services manages the programs with local stakeholders, locally Chenango & Otsego Counties will receive over $93,000, Delaware County over $85,000 and Broome County over $311,000.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Office arrested 29-year-old Osman Mendoza-Garcia of Scranton, Pennsylvania, on October 1st, after Deputies responded to a 2-car accident on State Highway 10. The investigation found that Mendoza-Garcia was following another north bound vehicle that was attempting to make a turn, he was unable to stop. Mendoza-Garcia was driving with a suspended driver’s license, he was charged with Aggravated Unlicensed Operation and Following too Closely, he was released with appearance tickets made returnable to the Town of Tompkins Court at a later date.

The New Bivalent COVID-19 BOOSTER Vaccines are available to anyone 12 and older, to provide increased protection against currently circulating variants. A booster clinic is being hosted by the Chenango County Health Department today at the Broad Street Methodist Church in Norwich, from 12:00 to 3:00 pm, at the Unadilla Valley School on October 27th, and Afton School on November 3rd. State Police and the Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services announced that a contingent of 50 State Troopers left Saturday morning for Puerto Rico to help the island nation as it recovers from the devastation left behind in the wake of Hurricane Fiona. The first wave of 50 Troopers, along with 69 New Jersey State Troopers, flew out of JFK airport at about 10 am. this morning bound for Luis Munoz Marin International Airport in San Juan, Puerto Rico. The flight was donated by Jet Blue Airlines.

Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested Amy Schermerhorn of New Berlin following a traffic Stop in the town of Pittsfield. Schermerhorn was charged with Driving While Intoxicated and Operating a Motor Vehicle with .08% Blood Alcohol Content, She will appear in court at a later date.

Johnson City Police arrested 3 people in connection with the shooting of a man in the abdomen last week. Destiany Kleine-Hill, Justice Marimberga and David Van Patten were all charged with Attempted Murder, 1st degree Robbery & 2nd degree Burglary.

Delaware County Public Health Services will be conducting a Monkeypox vaccine clinic on Wednesday, October 5, from 4:30PM to 6:00 PM, at 99 Main Street in Delhi. The Chenango County Weekly Wastewater Surveillance Data Report showed an increase in COVID 19 levels over the past 2 weeks, which changes the county's detection level to "HIGH". The Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 32 year old Emily Wood of Morris for Aggravated Harassment, following a complaint in the Town of Morris. Wood is accused of sending threatening and unwanted text messages to the victim. The defendant is set to appear in the Town of Morris Court at a later date.

Broome County Sheriff’s Deputy responded to a 2-car accident on I-86 in the Town of Windsor. During the investigation, 39 year old Michael Morgan of Queens, failed a field sobriety test & was charged with operating a motor vehicle while impaired by drugs. Morgan was processed and released on tickets returnable to the Town of Windsor Court.

Firefighters from Bainbridge, Guilford, Mount Upton, Masonville, Coventry, Franklin, Trout Creek, Afton and Sidney all responded to a structure fire at the Auto Plus Store at 4 Front Street Monday Night at about 9:00 PM. Investigators are trying to determine how the fire started, the store was closed when the fire broke out, no injuries among fire fighters were reported.

The fire at the Minnewaska State Park Preserve was contained on Sunday, according to the Governor's office. The State DEC Forest Rangers are leading the incident response in cooperation with the Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation, Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services, State Police and many other State and local partners. Response actions in the area will continue in the coming days with a smaller force of state and local experts as fire control efforts advance. More than 200 firefighters, bulldozer operators, pilots, and other professional staff and volunteers have been working to contain the fire.

The Governor's Office announced that $20 million is available to support addiction services providers in New York State that have been impacted by the ongoing effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. The federal funding will assist providers with fiscal recovery and enable them to continue offering COVID-safe substance use disorder prevention, treatment, harm reduction, and recovery services. Available addiction treatment information is available at FindAddictionTreatment.ny.gov.

The State Department of Labor today released preliminary local unemployment rates for July. The State's unemployment rate held at 4.4% from June to July, locally, Chenango County had 3.3% unemployment, Delaware County 3.9% & Otsego County 3.5% in July.

The State Health Department confirmed the 1st case of Monkeypox in a Juvenile. Officials said that the child lives outside of New York City, however, 25% of all monkeypox cases in the U.S. are in New York City. There were 2,596 cases reported statewide as of last Friday.

Otsego County Sheriff's Office reported that a Walton man died Sunday while canoeing on the Susquehanna River in Otego. Emergency Services received a 911 call at 1:59 pm. from a group of family members canoeing on the river, reporting that a member of their party was missing. 43 year old Brian Walley fell into the water, family was unable to locate him, he was found by State Police divers at 6:45 pm. and was declared deceased by the Otsego County Coroner's office.

Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 31 year old Steven Barrows of Sidney on burglary & Grand Larceny charges, after stopping a suspected stolen vehicle from the Town of Otego. Barrows was located driving the vehicle in the Town of Oneonta, he was taken into custody at the Super 8 Motel by Deputies and State Troopers, Barrows was arraigned and was remanded to the Otsego County Correctional Facility. The investigation is on-going and additional charges are expected.

Otsego County Sheriff’s Office arrested 29-year-old Andrew Kreger of Oneonta, after Deputies responded to a shoplifting complaint at the Hannaford Grocery Store in Oneonta. Kreger is accused of leaving the store with $848.35 worth of merchandise without paying, he was also found to be in possession of a small quantity of LSD. Kreger was charged with petit larceny and criminal possession of a controlled substance, he was processed and released on an appearance ticket pending future court action.

Delaware County Sheriff's Office arrested of 31 year old Lisa Rosengrant of Hancock for Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a motor vehicle. On May 3rd on State Highway 10 in the Town of Tompkins, Deputies observed a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed, a traffic stop was conducted and it was learned that Rosengrant’s operating privileges were suspended. Rosengrant was also issued Tickets for Operating without a license and Speeding, she was released and is scheduled to appear in the Town of Tompkins Court at a later date.

On May 4th, Delaware County Sheriff Deputies were dispatched to a reported domestic dispute, they arrested 57-year-old Brett Shepler of Harpersfield, for allegedly obstructing the breathing of the victim and damaging property. Deputies arrested and charged Shepler Friday with Unlawful Imprisonment, Criminal Obstruction of Breathing, Reckless Endangerment and Criminal Mischief, he was arraigned in the Town of Harpersfield Court and released on his own recognizance & he was ordered to return at a later date.

Schenevus fire department responded to a reported brush fire shortly after 11:30 Wednesday Morning, near the intersection of State Highway 7 & Stone House Road in the Town of Maryland. Dry conditions, wind and steep terrain were contributing factors while firefighters from 18 different departments fought the blaze. An additional 8 departments were on standby. The Fire was under control at approximately 5:00 PM. Otsego County EMS reminds area residents that the statewide burn ban through May 14.

Beckwith said that any distributions tomorrow will depend on how quickly NYSEG gets power restored to Chenango County Residents.

The Otsego County Department of Emergency Services announced that Dry ice and bottled water will be available for pick up this evening at the Unadilla fire station and the West Exeter fire station from 6 PM – 9 PM or while supplies last. They also announced that the Emergency shelter at the Armory in will cease operations tomorrow, at 12 Noon. The Clark’s Sports Center will remain open until further notice. Edmeston Central School will be open this evening from 5:00M – 9 PM for Edmeston residents to come and get warm, get a hot meal and a hot shower.

40 organizations in the region were awarded grants totaling $287,684 from the Community Foundation for South Central New York. Funded Organizations included museums, theater groups, libraries, human service agencies, animal welfare organizations, chambers of commerce, food banks, housing programs, and public safety agencies and other nonprofits, municipalities, and school districts. Attorney General Letitia James distributed the 1st round of payments from the opioid settlements to the Southern Tier. In 2022, the Southern Tier will receive a total of $4.8 million, from the $1.5 billion settlement Attorney General James secured with the manufacturers and distributors of opioids for prevention efforts. Later this year, the Southern Tier will receive additional payments from the settlements with Endo Health Solutions, Janssen Pharmaceuticals, and Allergan. Locally Broome County receives $1.6 Million dollars, Chenango County, $308,000, Delaware County: $327,000.

Delaware County Sheriff Craig DuMond awarded Deputy Samantha Acuna with the Sheriff’s Superstar Award for meritorious service while in the performance of duty. On April 8th, Deputy Acuna was dispatched to a “routine” welfare check following a call to 911 with an “open line”. Upon gaining entrance to the residence, Deputy Acuna found a male victim suffering from an apparent stroke, rendered first aid and immediately called for medical assistance, and likely saved the victim’s life.

NYSEG reports that thousands are still without power this morning across the region. Broome County had more than 15,000 customers without power, Chenango County over 9,600, Delaware County over 5300, Otsego County with more than 6300, earlier today.

The State of Emergency and Travel Ban for Chenango County and the City of Norwich continues to be in effect today, due to numerous roads still closed due to downed trees & power lines, Chenango County Director of Emergency Services Matt Beckwith gave WCDO News an update this morning:

Beckwith said that The Norwich YMCA is operating a shelter, The Smyrna & Coventry Fire Departments are operating as "Warming Stations", The Norwich High School will be a warming shelter with showers available, Otselic Valley Central school will have overnight shelter, showers & food available, The Sherburne Earlville School has food available for pick up only, The Unadilla Valley School will be open until 7:00 PM for shelter, And NYSEG is making dry ice available at the Fire Departments in Afton, Bainbridge, Greene, Guilford, Norwich & Smyrna.

The Otsego County Office of Emergency Services announced that they have lifted the State of Emergency Declaration, they report that all roads are open, but they urge that motorists drive with extra caution. All Otsego County offices were open today, Emergency Shelters have been set up at the Oneonta Armory, Clark's Sports Center in Cooperstown, Affected Students at SUNY Oneonta are being sheltered in the Alumni Field House. The Schenevus Fire House has Dry Ice & Bottled Water, Otsego County is working to distribute those items at other locations as it becomes available.

NYSEG crews continued to work through the night, but thousands are still without power, NYSEG representatives announced that it could take another 24 to 48 hours to fully restore power. The American Red Cross opened 2 overnight shelters last night, for those without power & heat. 1 location was the Deposit Fire Department on 2nd Street, another was at the Trinity Church at 118 Oak Street in Binghamton.

Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies arrested 29 year old Nicole Robinson of Davenport, on an Arrest Warrant issued by the Town of Jefferson Court for Aggravated Harassment and Menacing. State Police learned Saturday that Robinson was staying in a residence in the Town of Davenport, Deputies located and arrested Robinson, she was turned over to State Police, to be arraigned on the arrest warrant, as well as additional charges resulting from the investigation.

Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 66 year old Clayton Monroe of Hartwick for multiple burglaries in Otsego County. Monroe was charged with 2 counts of Burglary, plus Grand Larceny, Criminal Mischief, 2nd & 3rd degree Assault, Possession of Burglar Tools, after Deputies were dispatched to a burglar alarm activation Sunday, they observed Monroe leaving in a vehicle at a nearby parking lot without lights on, a traffic stop was conducted, and Monroe was arrested. Monroe failed to comply with booking procedures and a corrections officer sustained an injury that required medical attention. Monroe was remanded to the Otsego County Jail, the investigation is on-going and additional charges are expected.

Delaware County Deputies observed an SUV traveling at 83 miles per hour in a 55 mile per hour zone on State Highway 17 in the Town of Colchester. Deputies arrested 36-year-old Christina Daggett of Central Square, her Driver’s License had been previously revoked for operating without insurance. Daggett was charged with Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Unlicensed Operator, Speeding & Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, she was released on an Appearance Ticket, returnable to the Town of Colchester Court at a later date.

Due to today's Snowstorm, States of Emergency have been declared in several municipalities. Broome County issued a State of Emergency with a travel ban implemented, in Otsego County a State of Emergency is in effect & all Otsego County office buildings are closed today, they request that people stay off the roads for plows to clear the roads. Chenango County has a State of Emergency, with only emergency personnel allowed on the roads. The Cites of Norwich & Oneonta also declared a State of Emergency with all roads in Norwich closed, & no unnecessary travel in Oneonta.

NYSEG reported thousands were without power this afternoon from the heavy snow that knocked down trees & power lines. Over 42,000 Broome County residents lost power, over 8,400 in Delaware & over 15,900 in Chenango County each & over 12,900 in Otsego County, crews are working to restore the power as quickly as possible.

The State Department of Health made $965 million in payments to providers, including facilities, for services ordered, prescribed, referred, and attended by practitioners who were not enrolled in the health care program, including those who had been barred due to misconduct, according to an audit released today by State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli. DiNapoli recommended that the Department of Health Review the $965 million in payments for Medicaid claims involving inactive providers and determine an appropriate course of action; Enhance controls to prevent improper payments and Update guidelines to clarify billing requirements.

The State Labor Department released local unemployment rates fro the month of March, Locally Chenango County had 3.9%, Delaware County 4% and Otsego County 3.9%, the statewide rate was 4.6%.

Governor Kathy Hochul today announced the state Environmental Facilities Corporation has awarded $638 million in grants to municipalities and public authorities for 199 water infrastructure projects across the state that protect public health or improve water quality. 13 municipal projects have been awarded a 25 percent WIIA grant plus a 25 percent federal additional subsidy to fund 50 percent of the estimated project costs, one of those is the village of Sidney will recieve a total grant award of $1,130,626.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a check the welfare of a female subject who had reportedly been parked in a pull off since the evening hours of April 10th. Deputies made contact with 37 year-old Terri Ann Connolly of Walton, Connolly’s driver’s license was suspended, she was charged with Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Operating with No Rear License Plate, Improper Plates, Operating Without Insurance, Unregistered & Uninspected Motor Vehicle, she was released on appearance tickets for the Town of Walton Court at a later date.

The State Health Department have included Broome and Tioga counties in an "orange zone" designation for counties at high risk of transmission of the latest strains of the COVID-19 virus . 10 counties have been designated orange, The Broome County Health Department reported 677 new confirmed cases of the virus since the middle of last week, with 31 people hospitalized on Friday & a 7 day positivity rate of 9.5%.

The State DEC are reported sightings of the invasive Southern Pine Beetle, which is native to the southeastern U.S. They are known as destructive pests and pose a significant risk to New York’s pine forests. The DEC said that infestations are spreading and most recently were found in Saratoga County, as well as several locations in the Hudson Valley. DEC and the Office of Parks, Recreation, and Historic Preservation said they will be closely monitoring multiple State Parks.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies on patrol in Delhi observed a vehicle fail to stop for a stop sign, failing to signal a turn & traveling through a parking lot to avoid the intersection. Deputies identified the driver as 18 year old Mikaela Duran on Brooklyn, Duran had a BAC measured at .15%. she was charged with DWI & driving with a BAC of .08%, operating a motor vehicle after consuming alcohol under age 21, as well as several other infractions, Duran was released on tickets returnable to the Town of Delhi Court at a later date.

The State Office of Fire Prevention and Control, the Otsego County Office of Emergency Services & the Worcester Fire Department have determined the cause of the recent fire in Worcester was accidental. It was determined that the fire originated from an electric appliance that was in use at Hidden Memories at 143 Main Street, the fire destroyed 3 downtown buildings.

Broome County District Attorney Mike Korchak announced that 40 year old James Williams of Port Dickinson was sentenced to 5 years in jail for a guilty plea of Attempted Criminal Possession of a Weapon. Williams was arrested in 2019 after Johnson City Police executed a search warrant where Williams was found to be illegally in possession of a sawed-off shotgun.

New York State has updated driver's licenses and state IDs for the first time since 2013. The new look includes enhanced security features & anyone who applied for a new permit, license or non-driver ID card after March 10th will receive the new and improved card. Enhanced features include imprinted lettering and images which can be felt on the card's surface, more information is available at DMV.NY.GOV.

Lieutenant Governor Brian Benjamin submitted his resignation to Governor Kathy Hochul yesterday, after he was arrested following a Federal Investigation. The U.S. Attorney’s office said Benjamin was charged with bribery, honest services wire fraud and falsification of records. Benjamin was accused in an indictment of participating in a scheme to obtain campaign contributions from a real estate developer in exchange for Benjamin’s agreement to use his influence as a state senator to get a $50,000 grant of state funds for a nonprofit organization the developer controlled. Governor Hochul accepted the resignation.

State Troopers responded Sunday to a domestic incident that involved an attempted break-in at a residence on County Highway 54 in the town of Springfield. 37 year old Kenneth Carson of Springfield attempted to enter the home of a known acquaintance and discharged a firearm while outside, he is also accused of having illegal Ghost Guns. Carson was charged with Attempted Burglary, Criminal Use of a Firearm, Criminal Possession of a Weapon, Manufacture of a Machine Gun, Reckless Endangerment & Criminal Mischief. Carson was remanded to the Otsego County Jail on $20,000 cash bail or $45,000 bond.

State Police, the Schenevus & Worcester Fire Department and Otsego County Emergency Services all responded to State Route 7 across from the Schenevus Central Schools on Wednesday afternoon, following the report of a car striking a tree. The driver, 30 year old Stephanie Robinson of Schenevus was airlifted by LifeNet to Albany Medical Center for serious injuries. She was the only person in the car, the crash remains under investigation.

The State Cannabis Control Board today approved the filing of proposed Medical Cannabis Program regulations for public comment that will implement certain provisions of the state’s new Cannabis Law, today's decision will shift the program from the State Health Department to the Office of Cannabis Management. The regulations allows for flexibility for pharmacists to provide their services remotely, Replaces a requirement that Registered Organizations maintain continuous video surveillance for 24 hours a day and Allows the Office of Cannabis Management to modify product testing requirements as necessary.

During the Superbowl Weekend STOP – DWI campaign Troopers in Troop “C” removed 9 impaired drivers off the roadways. The enforcement initiative ran from Friday, February 11 through Monday, February 14. State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli announced the results of an audit of the Otsego County Industrial Development Agency regarding the Oneonta Rail Yards Acquisition. The audit stated that the agency did not adequately plan for the 2017 acquisition of the rail yards, which was acquired based on a $6 million to $20 million development plan, but without an interested developer. Auditors found no indication that the board of directors had significant discussions of the pros and cons of developing the property, they then learned that a large-scale timber operation would be the only type of local industry that could profitable at the Rail Yards property.

The Friends of Recovery of Delaware and Otsego Counties will be expanding into Chenango County with a new site being prepared in the City of Norwich. The Chenango Arts Council’s annual Chenango Student Art Show will take place from March 4th to March 31st, the exhibit will open with a reception and awards ceremony on Friday March 4 beginning at 5:30 pm. The Otsego County Office of Emergency Services were requested to respond to a reported structure fire at 22 Maple Street in the Village of Gilbertsville Monday morning at about 9:15 AM. Firefighters from Gilbertsville, Morris, Mount Upton, Otego, Sidney, Wells Bridge and Otsego County EMS, all responded to the scene, 64 year old Louise Dubben was located deceased inside her residence. The Otsego County Office of Emergency Services, New York State Office of Fire Prevention and Control and the New York State Police are leading investigation efforts. An investigation into the fire is ongoing.

The City of Oneonta Police Department has arrested 29 year old Elijah Vergari of Oneonta in connection with the NBT bank robbery that occurred at 1 Wall Street in the City of Oneonta on December 29th. An indictment was handed down by a Grand Jury for the arrest of Vergari, Vergari was delivered to the Otsego County Court Monday, he was arraigned for 3rd degree Robbery, Due to the existence of pending felony charges in Delaware County, bail was set for $10,000 cash bail and he was remanded to the custody of the Otsego County Sheriff. The Oneonta Police Department worked in conjunction with the New York State Police Forensic ID unit, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security Investigations, and NBT bank security services.

An Oneonta man died in a two-car crash on Route 365 in Westmoreland late Sunday night. The Oneida County Sheriff's Office stated that 20-year-old Joshua Parker of Utica, was driving westbound on Route 365 when he started to have car trouble and put his flashers on while trying to make it to a gas station, Parker's vehicle was hit from behind by 40-year-old Lance Johnson of Oneonta, who was transporting medical test samples to a lab. Johnson was pronounced dead at the scene. Parker was taken to St. Elizabeth Medical Center to be treated for injuries that are not considered to be life-threatening. The investigation is ongoing.

Assemblyman Joseph Angelino is announcing his re-election campaign. Angelino is serving in his first term, He is the ranking Republican on the Assembly Committee on Oversight, Analysis and Investigation. Angelino will be running in the new 121st Assembly District which includes the majority of Chenango and Broome counties, and portions of Madison, Otsego, Sullivan and Delaware counties.

State Police arrested 29 year old Brandon Hilts of Cherry Valley for 2nd degree Assault, Unauthorized Use of a Vehicle, Unlawful Imprisonment, Criminal Mischief, Menacing, Reckless Endangerment and Criminal Obstruction of Breathing. Troopers were dispatched to a report of a domestic dispute in a vehicle in the town of Edmeston, the investigation revealed that a verbal argument became physical. Hilts is accused of seriously injuring and choking the victim & that he threatened the victim with a knife and prevented the victim from leaving, from calling 911 and for trying to hit the victim with the victims vehicle. The victim was Bassett Hospital to be treated for injuries sustained during the dispute, Hilts was remanded to the Otsego County Jail pending court action in Edmeston Town Court on February 7.

The State Labor Department released their December breakdown for unemployment in each County. Locally, Chenango & Delaware Counties had 2.8% unemployment, Otsego county had 3% unemployment, the statewide rate was at 6.2%.

Governor Hochul & Attorney General Letitia James announced that New York’s indoor mask mandate is back in effect just one day after a Nassau County judge ruled that it couldn’t be enforced. New York State filed an appeal Tuesday following the ruling, and Judge Robert Miller granted the state’s request for a stay of the the previous ruling that the governor and health officials lacked authority to require masks. The State Department of Education already sent a notice to schools Tuesday saying regardless of Monday’s ruling, masks would still be required. Another hearing on the mandate is scheduled for Friday.

The Greene Police Department, State Police & The Chenango County Sheriff's Office are investigating a shooting in Greene Tuesday Morning at around 8:00 AM. The hooting took place at 8 1/2 Jackson Street, the victim was listed in stable condition at Wilson Hospital in Johnson City, an unidentified person has been arrested, the investigation is continuing.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies stopped a vehicle operated by 19-year old Levi R. Shambaugh, of Delancey on sun Day January 16th for allegedly driving 70 Miles per hour in a 55mph zone, on State Highway 10, in the Town of Delhi. Shambaugh’s New York State driver’s license was suspended due to a failure to answer a summons. Shambaugh was charged him with Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle, speeding among other charges, he was released on appearance tickets for the Town of Delhi Court at a later date.

Otsego County Office of Emergency Services announced that COVID test kits, one kit per person, are available today at the Schenevus Fire Department from 6:00 to 8:30 PM, and Thursday at the Cherry Valley Fire Department from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM, the Hartwick Town Hall from 4:00 to 6:00 PM, and Sunday, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 Noon, and Thursday at the Unadilla Fire Department starting at 4:30 pm until gone.

State Police responded on Saturday at approximately 11:05 AM, to the report of a 2 vehicle accident on State Route 7 in Otego. Police stated that a Chevrolet Trail Blazer driven by 42 year old David VanBuren of Otego, while leaving a driveway, entered into the roadway and fails to yield the right of way to a Kia driven by 61 year old Lewis Keyser of Otego. Keyser was flown to Albany Medical Center by LifeNet for emergency surgery for injuries sustained in the accident, the investigation is continuing.

The “Inflation Relief & Consumer Assistance Plan” calls for eliminating sales tax charges for 2 years. The State Senate Minority Republican Conference also unveiled the ‘End the Exodus’ economic plan to deal with inflation spikes and the ongoing exodus of New Yorkers leaving the state for other affordability locations with perceived better economic opportunity than in New York State.

Delaware County Sheriff's Office arrested 40 year old Jeremiah Clark of Roxbury for possessing stolen property and falsifying business records. On November 7th, Deputies investigated a report of stolen scrap steel and copper from a building in the Town of Stamford, which were sold to Otsego Auto Crusher’s in Davenport. On January 14th, Delaware County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division assisted State Police with the execution of a search warrant on a residence in the Town of Roxbury, they charged Clark with Falsifying Business Records and Criminal Possession of Stolen Property, he was arraigned at the Town of Roxbury Court and was released on his own recognizance. Clark is scheduled to appear at the Town of Roxbury Court at a later date.

Finney said that the Emergency Department had not been renovated in more than 30 years & needed to be upgraded to handle the current needs of the Greater Chenango County Area residents for Health Care. Chenango County Sheriff's Office responded to an attempted armed robbery at the Mirabito's Gas Station in the Town of South New Berlin Sunday. The employee stated that a male walked into the store and demanded money, when the suspect was unsuccessful in getting the money, he fled the scene. A State Police Unit came into contact with the vehicle that was reported in the crime, on State Highway 320 in the Town of Norwich with the assistance from the Norwich City Police Department. 28 year old Jesey Smith of Spencer was charged with Attempted Robbery, he was arraigned in the Town of New Berlin Court & was remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility without bail. Smith is scheduled to re-appear back in the New Berlin Court at a later date. The occupants of the Smith vehicle have not been charged and the case is still under investigation.

The Chenango United Way announced that they exceeded its goal of $425,00 by raising $448,981 in Chenango County for 2021, also the United Way of Delaware and Otsego Counties also exceeded its goal of $50,000 by raising $53,149 in Delaware and Otsego Counties in 2021. Funds from the campaigns will be allocated to programs that are addressing the issues of financial stability, education and health. Awards will be determined in early February.

The Grandparent Scam continues to pop up, where scammers try to rip off the elderly by posing. by phone as a troubled grandchild, Delaware County Sheriff Craig DuMond said that his Office has investigated this scam too many times:

Sheriff DuMond said that several people have unwittingly sent money to scammers in this instance, State Police announced that they are investigating another “grandparent scam” in Endwell where the scammer showed up in a Jeep, pictured on the state Police website that took advantage of a victim, causing a significant monetary loss. Broome County Sheriff's Deputies responded to 9 Kattelville Road in Chenango Bridge at around 6:40 pm. Friday, they found 29-year-old Randy Glezen of Lisle bleeding on the floor with multiple stab wounds and a neighbor performing CPR, then a deputy took over, however, Glezen succumbed to his injuries. 20-year-old Christian Smith-Bartlett is charged with Murder and Assault, and he was sent to the Broome County Jail to await court action.

Otsego County Office of Emergency Services announced that the COVID test site in the Village of Milford will be closed today, due to inclement weather. Milford test site will reopen again on Wednesday, January 19.

Delaware County Public Health reported 650 new COVID 19 cases from January 8th to the 14th. There were 7 hospitalized, 479 active cases, there were 4 more deaths associated with the virus in Delaware County last week.

Nasir Azmat began his 60 day jail term, after appearing in town of Sidney Court Thursday. Azmat accepted a plea deal last October in the Town of Sidney court, he pleaded guilty to overdriving, torturing, and injuring animals & was sentenced to 60 days in jail followed by 3 years of probation; he cannot own, possess or register animals during the 3 year probation. Azmat will also be placed on the Delaware County Animal Abuse Registry. Azmat was charged in February 2020 after Delaware County Sheriff’s Office found 20 dogs in deplorable conditions on Azmat’s property, the dog were allegedly used for dog-fighting.

The Chenango County Health Department confirmed the 100th COVID-19 attributed death today. Chenango County Health Department has also changed their protocols to go along with new State guidelines, with an emphasis on home testing & reporting the findings to the Health Department. Chenango County reported 578 active cases, 840 quarantines & 4 hospitalizations.

Former long time WDLA co-owner Amos Finch of Walton passed away Tuesday, following a lengthy illness. Finch was born in Sidney Center, In 1975 he purchased WDLA, and later added stations in Deposit & Delhi, before selling them in 2000. Private arrangements were conducted by CH Landers Funeral Chapel of Sidney, and he will be buried at Highland Cemetery in Sidney Center in the spring. State Police Bureau arrested 50 year old Kenneth Drumm of Windsor for the felony of Sexual Abuse. Drumm was charged after an investigation revealed he had inappropriate contact with a child younger than the age of 13. Drumm was arrested and processed and was turned over to Broome County Central Arraignment and Processing. A full stay away order was issued to the victim.

Governor Kathy Hochul today announced additional resources from the federal government will arrive in New York State, providing relief to hospitals and emergency services during the COVID-19 winter surge. Governor Hochul announced that 30 National Ambulance Contract Teams will be arriving in upstate regions beginning THIS Sunday, to provide backfill for local emergency services and hospital transports.

Otsego County Department of Health is continuing to see the highest surge in COVID-19 cases since the pandemic started almost two years ago. It is critical that everyone continues with social distancing, wearing masks and getting vaccinated. If you test positive for COVID, isolate for at least 5 days and notify your close contacts. If you are unvaccinated or have not received a booster dose and have been in close contact with someone who is positive you should quarantine for at least 5 days. Contact tracing will continue in certain settings such as schools, daycares, hospitals, nursing homes and other congregate settings. The Otsego County Health Department reports 183 New cases Thursday with 8 hospitalizations, active cases will no longer be reported, as it is not possible to get an accurate number with the current limited contact tracing and case investigation. Chenango County Health Department confirmed the 99th COVID-19 attributed death in the County since that pandemic began 2 years ago.  Chenango County reported 722 Active Cases 722, 35% are vaccinated, they have 8 hospitalized, and none of those were vaccinated.  1053 are Quarantined, vaccine information or how to report a positive home test for COVID, can be found at the Chenango County Health Department website.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched Monday to a report of a crossbow bolt found stuck in the front lawn of a Walton residence.   50-year-old Bryan Cosma of Walton had discharged crossbow bolt into the air, within 250 feet of a neighboring dwelling. Cosma was charged with Illegal Discharge of a Crossbow; he was released on an appearance ticket, and is scheduled to appear before the Town of Walton Court at a later date.

State Police BCI unit arrested 26 year old Simon Braungard of Windsor for Sexual Abuse, following an investigation where he is accused of forcibly subjecting a victim to sexual contact on January 5th.  Braungard was transported to Broome County Central Arraignment and Processing.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched Tuesday to a report of a hit and run motor vehicle accident on State Highway 10 in the Town of Delhi. 30-year old Michael Laureanti of Delhi, rear ended another vehicle and fled from the crash scene, he was located & further investigation revealed that Laureanti was operating the vehicle at the time of the accident while his driver’s license was suspended due to a failure to pay child support. Laureanti was charged with aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and leaving the scene of a property damage motor vehicle accident, he was released on traffic tickets returnable to the Town of Delhi Court at a later date.

As the rise of the Omicron variant continues to threaten the safety of our nation’s health care workforce, U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand is calling on the Biden administration to continue and make permanent the Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s (OSHA) emergency COVID-19 protections for health care workers, after OSHA let the temporary requirements to lapse:

The Chenango County District Attorney's Office reported that Cody Coleman of Smithville Flats, appeared in Chenango County Court on December 20th to accept that plea bargain, for the murder of his 16 year old Girlfriend Amelia Wakefield in May of 2019. The case was scheduled to go to trial in May of 2020, but was delayed by the COVID 19 pandemic. Chenango County District Attorney's office offered a plea deal, the charge was lessened from murder to manslaughter, Coleman is scheduled to be sentenced on February 28th in Chenango County Court.

State Police released more details about Wednesday arrest of 29 year old Anthony Masi of Sidney, who was wanted for 1st degree Assault in Oneonta on December 30 & also charged for Criminal Possession of Stolen Property,  Sidney Police Department spotted Masi in a stolen vehicle and attempted to stop him, he failed to comply and fled from Sidney Police and Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies on State Route 8 in the town of Masonville, Troopers attempted to stop Masi, who again failed to comply, he was stopped on State Highway 17 in Hancock and was taken into custody.  Masi was processed on the Stolen Property charge, was arraigned & was released & ordered to appear in Hancock Village Court at a later date; he was then turned over to troopers, was arraigned on the Assault charge & was remanded to the Otsego County Jail on $50,000 bail or $500,000 bond.

SUNY Oneonta will host one of the state’s 10 new COVID-19 community testing sites,  which opens today,  in the training room of the college’s new Emergency Services Building, located at the lower end of campus, and is open to anyone in the community who is experiencing mild to moderate COVID symptoms. Appointments are required and must be scheduled in advance. Testing, which is saliva-based, is provided at no cost to individuals. The site will be open from 8:30 am to noon on Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays. The Oneonta site is scheduled to operate through the end of February.  Appointments for testing at the Oneonta site can be scheduled at bit.ly/covid-test-oneonta.

OTSEGO COUNTY OFFICE OF EMERGENCY SERVICES announced that KN95 masks will be made available, FREE for distribution to the public, beginning today at the American Legion COVID test site in the Village of Milford, located at 86 West Main Street in Milford, as well as the SUNY Oneonta COVID test site.  An additional distribution site is being established at the Richfield Springs Fire Department in the coming week.

Delaware County is 1 of 6 counties in New York State chosen to receive support from the State Health Department to conduct COVID vaccination clinics. Personnel from The State and the National Guard will support the county operated clinics beginning today in Sidney at the Sidney Elks Lodge on River Street from 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM, as well as on Saturday & January 28th and 29th. The second clinic will be in Stamford at the Catskill Veterans Outreach Center, from 11AM-7PM, on January 14th, 15th & February 4th and 5th. In the last two days Delaware County has had a surge of positive covid-19 cases with 98 new positive cases on Tuesday & 121 Positives on Wednesday, there was 1 more COVID 19 death attributed to the virus.
