Last night's Binghamton Rumble Ponies Home Opener at Mirabito Stadium was postponed and will be made up as part of a Double header starting this afternoon 4:15 P m. The Rumble Ponies will play the Yankees Double A Team the Somerset Patriots to start their home opener series this year, ceremonies to celebrate the Rumble Ponies League championship last year will be held starting at 3:45 PM.

The Delaware County Sheriff's Office is assisting with a Missing Persons Report from Weehawken New Jersey. 20 year old Emilio Acosta left home on December 18th, he had 2 knapsacks and his ski helmet, he is familiar with the Roxbury area and his family reportedly used to go skiing at Belleayre Mountain. Acosta is 6'1", about 190 pounds with black hair & he was wearing a New York Yankees cream colored sweatshirt, Gray Sweatpants and black Timberland boots. Delaware County residents who may spot Acosta are asked to call the Weehawken Police Department at (201)863-7800.

Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 28 year old Gabriel Jensen of Oneonta for DWI, driving with a BAC of .08% or More of Alcohol, Failure to Keep Right, and other related charges, following the investigation of a motor vehicle accident in the Town of Hartwick. Jensen is accused of operating the vehicle while intoxicated, he was processed and released on Traffic Tickets.

The National Baseball Hall of Fame inducted 5 more members into the Hall in Cooperstown yesterday. The 1st speech was given by Billy Wagner, who was a small child who was right-handed and went on to become one of the best left handed pitchers of his time, he encouraged people to never give up:

Willa Allen was married to new Hall of Famer Dick Allen, one of the most feared sluggers of the 60's & 70's who played in Philadelphia, St. Louis, Los Angeles, Chicago & Oakland:

Area Congressman Josh Riley will send his team to Oneonta for Mobile Office Hours today, from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM at the Huntington Memorial Library at 62 Chestnut Street. Congressman Riley’s team will meet with constituents and assist them with issues such as Medicare, Social Security, veterans' benefits, passport delays, or any other issue involving a federal agency.

Scott Rolen won 8 Gold Gloves at 3rd Base over his career mostly with the Philadelphia Phillies, St. Louis Cardinals, Toronto Blue Jays & Cincinnati Reds, he told the Story about his father giving him advice before an interstate all Star basketball game, that stuck with him throughout his baseball career:

In a separate ceremony on Saturday, three other baseball notables were recognized, Chicago Cubs Broadcaster Pat Hughes received the Ford C. Frick Award for broadcasting, John Lowe was honored with the Baseball Writers Career Excellence Award and Brooklyn Dodger great Carl Erskine received the Buck O’Neil lifetime achievement award.

The Otsego County Sheriff's Office released the identity of the man found deceased in Fox Hospital Oneonta Bathroom in May. 32 year old Michael Morton of West Winfield died of a drug overdose sometime between May 30th and May 31. The autopsy found fentanyl, oxycodone, and several other substances.

Oneonta Fire Department responded to a fire at the Motel 88 on Chestnut Street Thursday afternoon.  The fire was started in an unoccupied room, 2 adjacent rooms suffered damage, it was knocked down in less than an hour, no injuries were reported, and the cause of the fire is under investigation.

New York’s Independent Redistricting Commission met January 3 to approve new maps that would shape those districts for the next 10 years, but ended the meeting with two separate proposals.  The Commission sent its 2 plans to lawmakers for consideration during the 2022 session.

State Police released more details about Wednesday arrest of 29 year old Anthony Masi of Sidney, who was wanted for 1st degree Assault in Oneonta on December 30 & also charged for Criminal Possession of Stolen Property,  Sidney Police Department spotted Masi in a stolen vehicle and attempted to stop him, he failed to comply and fled from Sidney Police and Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies on State Route 8 in the town of Masonville, Troopers attempted to stop Masi, who again failed to comply, he was stopped on State Highway 17 in Hancock and was taken into custody.  Masi was processed on the Stolen Property charge, was arraigned & was released & ordered to appear in Hancock Village Court at a later date; he was then turned over to troopers, was arraigned on the Assault charge & was remanded to the Otsego County Jail on $50,000 bail or $500,000 bond.

SUNY Oneonta will host one of the state’s 10 new COVID-19 community testing sites,  which opens today,  in the training room of the college’s new Emergency Services Building, located at the lower end of campus, and is open to anyone in the community who is experiencing mild to moderate COVID symptoms. Appointments are required and must be scheduled in advance. Testing, which is saliva-based, is provided at no cost to individuals. The site will be open from 8:30 am to noon on Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays. The Oneonta site is scheduled to operate through the end of February.  Appointments for testing at the Oneonta site can be scheduled at bit.ly/covid-test-oneonta.

OTSEGO COUNTY OFFICE OF EMERGENCY SERVICES announced that KN95 masks will be made available, FREE for distribution to the public, beginning today at the American Legion COVID test site in the Village of Milford, located at 86 West Main Street in Milford, as well as the SUNY Oneonta COVID test site.  An additional distribution site is being established at the Richfield Springs Fire Department in the coming week.

The Binghamton Rumble Ponies announced that this year's manager will be Reid Brignac, who retired as a major league player in 2018.  The Pitching Coach will be Jerome Williams who pitched in the majors for 11 seasons, the Hitting Coach will be Tommy Joseph, who played with the Philadelphia Phillies in 2016 & 2017, and Bench Coach is Mariano Duncan, who played on championship teams in Cincinnati in 1990 & the NY Yankees in 1996.

Friends of Rogers started their 2nd annual Electric Car Raffle today March 19th, which features a prize of a 2020 Tesla Model 3. The raffle runs through October 15th, the winner will be announced on October 21st. at Rogers Center and will be open to the public. The state-run mass vaccination site at SUNY Oneonta opened today with Bassett Healthcare Network staff, state Staff, the National Guard and Otsego County Public Health on hand.  Anyone currently eligible under state guidelines can find the link to register at bassett.org, or at the 'Am I Eligible' App or website or by calling 1-833-NYS-4-VAX (1-833-697-4829).

Beginning March 29th statewide travel for sports and recreational activities will be permitted. The New York Mets and New York Yankees can resume play with spectators in their stadiums, beginning April 1st, with 20% capacity allowed, along with other COVID protocols in place.

State Police at Binghamton are searching for a missing runaway teen. 15 year old Trevor Mallory was last seen on February 2nd at 4:30 PM leaving an address on Colesville Road in the town of Colesville.  Troopers were told he got into a grey colored 4-door-sedan; the vehicle make and model are unknown.  Mallory is described as 5 foot 9 inches and 135 pounds.  He has brown hair and brown eyes, anyone with information should contact State Police at 775-1241.

Current Oneonta Mayor Gary Herzig announced the passing of Former Oneonta Mayor & Businessman Albert "Sam" Nader at the age of 101.  Nader co-owned the Oneonta Yankees Baseball team from the late 60’s until 2008 & was responsible for getting Oneonta an airport while mayor.

Mussina & Rivera were inducted into the Baseball Hall Of
Fame with Pitchers the late Roy Halladay & Lee Smith, and Designated hitter
Edgar Martinez & Harold Baines.

American Red Cross Blood drives are scheduled today in
Walton & Oneonta. In Walton, a blood drive is being held from 12:00 Noon
until 5:00 PM, at the Watershed Agricultural Council, 44 West Street; In
Oneonta, a blood drive is scheduled from 2:00 to 6:00 PM at the Quality Inn on
State Highway 23.  Donors of all blood types,
especially type O, are urged to make an appointment to donate using the Blood
Donor App, at RedCrossBlood.org or by calling 1-800-RED CROSS.

Supplies are needed & pets are ready for adoption, at
the Delaware Valley Humane Society in Sidney, Director Erin Insinga and a few
children from Dewitt Drive in Sidney stopped up to visit WCDO this morning,

Fame Sunday at the Clark Sports Center in Cooperstown:

Pitchers, 1st up was Mike Mussina who played 18 years for the Baltimore Orioles
& The New York Yankees, who won 270 games without putting up some of the
gaudy statistics that other Hall of Famers did:

The 2nd starting pitcher inducted Sunday was the late Roy
Halladay, who died in a small plane crash in November 2017; on the baseball
field among his achievements, he authored only the 2nd no hitter in post season
baseball, his wife Brandy struggled through the speech, but believed her

This year, 2 Designated Hitters were inducted into the
Baseball Hall of Fame, 1st up was Harold Baines, who was known for his quiet
leadership over his lengthy career, he simply followed the advice of his late

Mariners, he was so prolific as a DH, that the Annual Award is named after him;
he said that it was a long wait to get in the Hall Of Fame, but it was worth

Officials estimated that about 55,000 fans attended Sunday’s
Hall of fame Inductions in Cooperstown.

State Police are seeking the public's assistance in locating
27 year old Amanda Lee Chandler of Oneonta.
Chandler was last seen about a week ago in the City of Oneonta and has
not had any contact with any family or friends, she is described as 5'5",
approximately 150 pounds, blue eyes, shoulder length brown hair with blonde
ends, she was last seen wearing a t-shirt, jeans and black sneakers.  Anyone with information is asked to call
State Police at 432-3211.

Sam Nader's 100th Birthday and 50th 1969 Oneonta Yankees Reunion, will be Hosted by Oneonta Yankees on July 12th at 6:00 PM & July 13th at 10:00 AM.  The event will be held at Damaschke Field in Oneonta; Sam Nader was a former co-owner of the former Oneonta Yankees minor league baseball team.

State Police arrested 37 year old Jillian Eckberg of Oneonta for Criminal Contempt & Stalking, after troopers were advised that Eckberg allegedly violated a court order of protection, by sending the protected person a series of text messages and voicemails that put him in fear. Eckberg was arraigned in town of Hartwick court and was remanded to the Otsego county jail on $2,500 cash bail or $5,000 property bond, pending action in town of Milford court.

Former Binghamton Mayor Juanita Crabb and former Binghamton Triplet Jerry Coleman will be inducted into Binghamton’s Baseball Shrine in a ceremony at NYSEG Stadium before the Binghamton Rumble Ponies game tonight at 7:05 PM. Crabb was instrumental in bringing professional baseball back to the Southern Tier in the 90’s, Coleman was a member of the 1946 Binghamton Triplets, he played for 9 seasons in the Major Leagues with the New York Yankees, appearing in 6 World Series, he was MVP in the 1950 Fall Classic. Coleman also spent more than 4 decades calling games for the San Diego Padres. Binghamton’s Baseball Shrine has 65 members currently.

Delaware Valley Humane Society & the Penguin Ice Cream & Snack bar of Masonville will hold their 2nd Annual "Licks & Licks" fundraiser At the Penguin on State Route 8 in Masonville today from 5:00 to 7:00 PM. State Police arrested 31-year-old Christen Young of Unadilla for Resisting Arrest, Stalking, Criminal Contempt and Harassment. Young allegedly violated a court order of protection, & she had been in a course of conduct that caused the protected person to fear for his employment and career. Young physically resisted being arrested and handcuffed; she kicked a trooper in the ankle at Police Barracks. Young was arraigned and was remanded to the Delaware county jail on $1,500 cash bail or $3,000 property bond. She faces action in Kortright, Unadilla & Oneonta courts shortly.

15 years after 9/11, the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum will pay tribute to baseball’s role in the healing process with a 6-month exhibit, & a special recognition during Hall of Fame Weekend. On Saturday, June 18, the Museum will cut the ribbon on “Baseball After 9/11” which will feature will be the Mets jersey 2016 Hall of Fame electee Mike Piazza wore on Sept. 21, 2001, in the first game played in New York after 9/11. Additional artifacts include both the “NYPD” hat worn by Mets manager Bobby Valentine and the “FDNY” hat worn by Mets pitcher John Franco on Sept. 21, 2001, as well as a game ticket to the scheduled Sept. 11 game at Yankee Stadium between the Yankees and the Chicago White Sox.

The Congressional Candidates for the 19th district will debate tonight in Oneonta. Republicans Andrew Heaney & John Faso will debate each other at 7:00 PM, Democrats Will Yandik & Zephyr Teachout will debate at 8:30 PM both will be at the Foothills Performing Arts Center, The debate is sponsored by the League of Women Voters.

Oneonta Police have charged a Hartwick College student with Assault. 20-year-old Nabill Maiyaki of Mohegan Lake is accused of stabbing an unidentified male victim during an altercation on Elm Street at about 1:00 AM Saturday, he has been charged with 2nd-degree assault & criminal possession of a weapon. The injured male was stabbed in a leg and in the abdomen, and was taken to Fox Hospital with non- life threatening injuries Maiyaki was held being held on bail pending court action

The Oneonta City Environmental Board will hold their next meeting this evening. The meeting will begin at 7:00 PM at the Common Council Chambers at City Hall.
