State Police continue to investigate tips that will help locate the person or persons responsible for throwing 2 beagle mix dogs out of a moving vehicle on Wednesday, December 12th on I-81 in Marathon. Several local, state and national animal welfare agencies and private donors are now offering a total of $16, 500 reward leading to the conviction of the person(s) responsible after the case has gained national attention. The following agencies have contributed: the Animal Legal Defense Fund $10,000, People for Ethical Treatment of Animals $5,000, the New York State Humane Association $1,000 and a private donation $500. Governor Cuomo today announced that more than $763 million in economic and community development funding has been awarded through Round 8 of the Regional Economic Development Council initiative. Locally, the Southern Tier RDC, which covers Delaware & Broome Counties, will get 65.4 Million dollars for various projects, Central New York, which includes Chenango County, receives 88.2 million dollars, and the Mohawk Valley region, which includes Otsego County, receives in 85.4 Million dollars.

NY State of Health announced that enrollment reached 4.7 million at close of business on December 15th, the deadline for January 1st 2019 coverage. Enrollment volumes in Qualified Health Plans and the Essential Plan outpaced last year’s levels with over 83,000 more people enrolled compared to last year.

In 2018, The Raymond Corporation contributed to over 150 nonprofit and educational organizations with monetary contributions, forklift donations and voluntary participation. Raymond gave food donations to the local food pantries, supported causes ranging from cancer awareness, veterans rehabilitation and animal rescue, & Raymond and its employees supported such programs as the American Red Cross, Habitat for Humanity, Breast Cancer Awareness, & Big Brothers and Big Sisters. Charter Spectrum will pay a record $174 million and refund customers in New York $62 million in a settlement over claims it defrauded internet subscribers. The settlement announced Tuesday by the State Attorney General's Office is the largest consumer payment by an internet provider in U.S. history. Charter Spectrum has agreed to provide some premium cable channels for free to customers as part of the deal, customers will each receive between $75 and $150, and they will also get streaming services and premium channels, with a retail value of over $100 million, at no charge for about 2.2 million active subscribers.

Emergency crews responded to a Tractor Trailer fire at about 12:00 Noon today. The fire was knocked down quickly & the westbound lanes of I-88 were re-opned quickly, WCDO news will have further details as they become available.

The Binghamton Devils donated over six barrels of non-perishable food to CHOW today with the help of team captain, Kevin Rooney. The food was collected from fans during the Put the Biscuit in the Basket food drive from November 28 to December 15, 2018. Totaling 1,415 pounds, the provisions will help feed Broome County families in need this holiday season.

Senator Fred Akshar will continue the second year of his district-wide "Akshar's All-Stars" student recognition program on Tuesday by recognizing students at one Broome County school and three Chenango County schools. Each month, Senator Akshar recognizes local students selected by their school districts in the 52nd Senate District who have shown great leadership, compassion, school spirit or improvement amongst their peers. Senator Akshar will make presentations starting at 8:00 AM at the Harpursville High School, then at 9:00 AM at Afton High School, 11:00 AM at Bainbridge-Guilford High School and and at 1:15 pm at the DCMO BOCES Campus in Norwich.

The Chobani Foundation announced the recipients of Their 1st Community Impact Fund, which will provide $100,000 in grant funds to 4 beneficiaries locally. The Sidney Central School District was awarded $21,000, to incorporate a food truck into its nutritional education program. The Catskill Development Foundation was awarded $28,150 for a food and agricultural entrepreneur training program at Delaware County FoodWorks+, The Oxford Academy and Central School District was granted $30,000 to fund the salaries of 25 students working for local businesses in the 10-month Career Pathways Program, Cornell Cooperative Extension of Madison County received $20,850 to provide marketing assistance for farmers and managers of farmers markets looking to expand their businesses. Governor Cuomo’s office announced on Tuesday of their goal to create a program for regulated marijuana use next year. The governor’s office hosted the listening sessions throughout September and October to gauge community appetite for legalizing marijuana, A study by the New York City Comptroller’s office estimated that revenues from taxes on regulated marijuana sales could bring in $3.1 billion dollars for the state. In Colorado, marijuana retailers made $1.5 billion last year and collected $247 million in taxes.

New York Farm Bureau has released its annual "Circle of Friends," naming 160 New York State Legislators to the distinguished list. The award is an indication of the individual lawmaker's support of New York agriculture and Farm Bureau. The "Circle of Friends" honor is based upon each legislator's voting record on issues of agricultural importance as well as other evidence of legislative support, including sponsorship of bills that New York Farm Bureau has either supported or opposed during the most recent legislative session, State Senators Fred Akshar, Jim Seward & John Bonacic plus Assembly members Cliff Crouch, Bill Magee, Donna Lupardo & Gary Finch were all named to the Farm Bureaus “Circle of Friends" again this year.

Governor Andrew Cuomo's office has announced the start of a child care availability task force. The group is comprised of representatives from the child care provider community, the business community, unions that represent child care providers, representatives from several state agencies and local departments of social services will develop recommendations to make quality, affordable child care accessible across the state. The task force met for the first time on Wednesday.

Voters in the Unadilla Valley School district have until 8:00 tonight to vote on the district's proposed 10 million dollar capital improvement project. Voting is being held at the District Office Lobby.

The Food and Drug Administration announced today that Del Monte Foods has recalled more than 64,000 cases of "Fiesta Corn" seasoned with red and green peppers. So far there had been no reports of illness, Del Monte determined the cans had not been properly sterilized, leading to the risk of spoilage. State Police have located James Sitts, who was wanted on an arrest warrant out of the town of Oneonta Court for 2 counts of Grand Larceny. Sitts was located and arrested by City of Oneonta Police Officers on December 8, He was later transferred to the custody of State Police and was arraigned in the town of Oneonta Court where he was remanded to the Otsego Jail with no bail. His next court date is January 3rd.

The Binghamton Rumble Ponies named Kevin Boles as the team's manager for the 2019 season. Boles joins the New York Mets organization after spending the last eleven seasons managing in the Boston Red Sox system.

The number of Animal Cruelty cases or cases of animal hoarding have spiked recently in the Southern Tier, which creates a difficult situation for area Shelters. Almond Upton of Florida has died in Prison, where he was serving time for the murder of State Trooper Christopher Skinner on I-81 In Broome County in May of 2014. Upton was serving his sentence in the Clinton Correctional Facility in Dannemora. Upton claimed he was in a manic state at the time he intentionally ran over Trooper Skinner, who was ocnducting an unrealted traffic stop, Upton was found guilty & was sentecned to life in prison, he died Sunday & the cause of death has not yet been released.

The Department of Environmental Protection announced plans to build a $34 million hydroelectric facility at Cannonsville Reservoir, which should produce enough electricity to power more than 3,500 homes each year. DEP officials announced that they will host 2 public meetings on Friday, one at 9:00 AM at the Deposit State Theater, at 148 Front Street in Deposit, & at 12:30 PM at the Upper Delaware Council office, 211 Bridge Street in Narrowsburg. Residents in South New Berlin are voting today on a proposed $1.1 million project to purchase property and construct a new fire department building. Voting will be held from 12:00 Noon until 9:00 PM at the South New Berlin Firehouse.

Voters in the Unadilla Valley School District will vote Thursday on a capital improvement project involving heating, parking lots, roof replacement, and auditorium improvements, among many other projects. The project would be paid for through a Capital Reserve Fund & State Aid, the $10 million dollar project vote will be held from 12:00 Noon to 8:00 PM in the District Office lobby Thursday.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 21 year old Rebecca Kole of Delancey, for moving from a lane unsafely, DWI, and other charges, following an investigation into a Motor Vehicle accident in the Town of Walton. Kole was later released on traffic tickets and is scheduled to appear at Walton Town Court at a later date to answer the charges.

The City of Oneonta and the Otsego County Conservation Association will be co-sponsoring a talk on the emerald ash borer on today, at 6:30pm. The insect is highly destructive; the first one was discovered in the town of Unadilla in 2014. State police are asking for the public's help in locating 39 year old James Sitts of Oneonta, who is wanted in connection with a grand larceny investigation. Sitts is described as a white male, 5 feet 10 inches tall, 165 pounds with brown hair, blue eyes and a beard, he has several distinctive tattoos on his neck and right arm, his last known address was in the Lantern Hill Trailer Park in Oneonta. Federal law Enforcement officials arrested 41 year old Justin Hobbie of Springfield, on child pornography charges. Hobbie was working as a physical education teacher & was formerly a girls’ soccer coach in the Cooperstown School District. District officials alerted parents of the arrest this morning, they did not believe that any incident involving a Cooperstown Student occurred, the investigation is continuing.

60 year old Lynn Beilby of South New Berlin has been charged with animal abuse, for allegedly torturing an animal and failing to provide sustenance to an animal. Beilby is scheduled to appear in the Town of Morris Court on January 14th to answer to the charges.

State Police arrested 37 year old Michael Collins of Butternuts, for Unlawful Imprisonment, Criminal Obstruction of Breathing and Criminal Mischief, after Troopers were dispatched to a residence on Wilbur Hill Road in the town of Butternuts for a domestic dispute. After an investigation, troopers determined that Collins and a victim were involved in an argument that turned physical, where Collins is accused of choking, taking a phone away when the victim attempted to call for help and not allowing the victim to leave. Collins was arraigned in the town of Butternuts Court where he was released on his own recognizance. The judge issued an order of protection to the victim.

The American Red Cross is facing a severe blood shortage and they are hosting 3 blood drives today. Governor Cuomo today announced $15 million has been awarded to 32 high-need school districts to increase access to high-quality pre-kindergarten for over 2,000 three- and four-year-old children across New York. This funding will support the expansion of pre-kindergarten to high-need or underserved districts as part of the state's ongoing efforts to promote early education and improve the academic future for all students.

State Police arrested 43 year old Jason Rude of Oneonta for Grand Larceny, following a complaint that Rude allegedly took a victim’s vehicle without permission then sold the vehicle to Otsego Auto Crushers. Rude was arraigned in the town of Middlefield Court where he was released on his own recognizance.

The Bainbridge-Guilford Central School will hold a Board of Education Meeting on Today in the District Conference Room at 6:30 PM. The business portion of the meeting will start at 7:00 PM.

Unadilla Valley Central School District confirms that they went into a lock-down late Tuesday morning after an alleged threat reported in the Otselic Valley School District. Unadilla Valley went on a lock-down after 2 students reported an audio recording of a threatened act of violence against a school, was allegedly made by a Unadilla Valley student. Chenango County sheriff’s Deputies responded, the student who made the threat was located and a search of that student’s locker revealed no weapons or contraband & the lockdown was lifted about 30 minutes later. The investigation is continuing.

A Boil Water order has been lifted in the Village of Greene, following a water main break on Saturday on North Chenango Street. The Water Main Break & subsequent advisory forced the cancellation of classes for the Greene Central School District Tuesday, classes were back in session today.

Law enforcement agencies from Yates County to the Capital District are looking for 71 year old Franklin Herman of Jerusalem, who suffers from Alzheimer's Disease & Diabetes. Herman is described as a white male, 5'6" about 150 pounds, he is bald & has blues eyes & wears glasses, he is driving a blue GMC Sierra Pick up with New York License number 9093JY, he was last seen this morning in Cohoes at about 9:40 AM. State Police arrested 38 year old Anthony Forte of Otego for Felony Driving While Intoxicated and Aggravated Unlicensed Operation. Troopers were dispatched to Taco Bell in the town of Oneonta for a suspected drunk driver. Forte had a BAC of .16%, twice the legal limit, he was arraigned in the town of Oneonta Court & his next court appearance is November 13th.

The Nassau County District Attorney will not attempt to prosecute former State Attorney General Eric Schneiderman on charges of physical or sexual abuse. The DA's office announced that there were legal impediments, including statutes of limitations that prohibited their office from going forward with a prosecution of Schneiderman, who resigned in May after allegations by several women that Schneiderman abused them. Nassau county district attorney Madeline Singas had been appointed by Governor Cuomo to oversee the allegations against Schniederman, based on her expertise on prosecuting sex crimes.

Delaware County Sheriff Deputies conducted a traffic stop on Andes Road in the Village of Delhi. 21 year old Brittney Barnett of Oakdale was observed traveling at 43 mph in a posted 20 mph School Zone, during dismissal time at Delaware Academy. Deputies detected an odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle, Barnett was charged with Speeding in school zone, obstructed license plate & unlawful possession of marijuana, she was released on an appearance ticket & will to appear in the Town of Delhi Court at a later date.

The City of Oneonta’s Comprehensive Plan Steering Committee met in City Hall on Thursday, an open house has been scheduled for November 14th. The City's last Comprehensive Plan was in 2007; the timeline calls for a public comment period and final revision, then the plan will be brought to Common Council for a vote.

25 year old Mamadou Barry of Brooklyn has been charged with 9 felony charges after he was found with counterfeit money in Oneonta. State Police arrested Barry on 6 counts of Criminal Possession of Forged Instrument & 3 counts of Tampering with Physical Evidence, a trooper on patrol observed Barry using an electronic device while he was driving and speeding while on State Highway 28 in Oneonta. Barry allegedly threw paper-like objects out the vehicle window as the trooper initiated a traffic stop. Berry is accused of using counterfeit bills at 3 Oneonta businesses; he was arraigned in the town of Oneonta Court & was remanded to the Otsego County Jail on $25,000 cash bail or $50,000 bail bond pending court action on November 15th.

The Greater Afton Area Chamber and The Bainbridge Chamber are hosting the Four Chamber Meeting and Saturday Seminars at Greenlawn Elementary School in Bainbridge on Saturday from 8:30 AM to 1:00 PM. Various topics will be discussed by area professionals at the seminars.

Following a court decision this week, The Oneonta Fire District will officially dissolve tomorrow. The Oneonta town board will meet tonight at 7:00 p.m. to hold a public hearing on the 2019 town budget and discuss the formation of the new fire district.

A man reported missing whose vehicle was found abandoned in Oneonta has been located deceased. State Police located 53-year-old Steven J. Kassirer deceased in a ravine within heavy brush, behind Safelite Auto Glass on Oneida Street in Oneonta. Troopers located Kassirer's vehicle earlier in the week in the Safe Lite parking lot, he was reported missing in Irondequoit and was also reported missing in Massachusetts when he did not report to his place of employment on October 23. No foul play is suspected at this time but the cause of death is still pending autopsy results.

State Police at Oneonta found a vehicle belonging to a man missing from Irondequoit and now are seeking assistance in locating 53-year-old Steven Kassirer, whose vehicle was located abandoned in a parking lot in the Oneonta area last Tuesday, October 23. Kassirer has no ties to the Oneonta area and troopers do not know at this time why his vehicle would have been left. anyone with information should contact State Police in Oneonta at 432-3211.

The CDC and the State Health Department are urging New York State Residents to get their flu vaccine as soon as possible, as an early flu season has already started. A flu outbreak in 1 Michigan school district led that district to close with students & teachers experiencing a flu outbreak. The FDA has approved a new flu vaccine that will be rushed to the market to try to slow down the latest strain of the flu.

The Local Early Intervention Coordinating Council will hold a meeting today that is open to the public, from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm. Governor Cuomo today announced six projects are being funded under the Empire State Poverty Reduction Initiative in Oneonta. The six programs include Communication Across Barriers, Opportunities for Otsego, CDO Workforce, the Oneonta School District, Family Planning of South Central New York, & the Otsego County Drug Court. The money is part of a broader $25 million effort to target pockets of poverty around the state.

State Attorney General Barbara Underwood announced that following her office’s investigation into rent-to-own Practices of the Manufactured Home Park industry, 8 have
agreed to major reforms of their practices. As part of the settlement, the owners must reimburse tenants for any down payments and other costs expended and allowing
tenants to rescind their Option to Purchase Agreement. Locally, JKLM Communities of Oneonta, who own the Valley Stream Trailer Park in Oneonta, has agreed to
discontinue rent-to-own practices found to be unlawful, the Attorney General’s office will continue to work with the New York Housing Association and its members to
reform practices for the benefit of manufactured home park tenants throughout the state.

Former area 3-term Congressman Richard Hanna & Mohawk Valley republican Assemblyman Marc Butler announced their support for Democrat Anthony Brinidisi over Republican incumbent Congresswoman Claudia Tenney at an event in Earlville Wednesday night. Hanna was known as a moderate Republican who worked well with other congressional members from both parties, during his term in Washington. Most of the recent polls have Brindisi & Tenney running neck & neck in the 22nd
Congressional District.

Oneonta City officials announced today that their contractor will be paving West Broadway on Tuesday, between 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM. The street will be closed to traffic during paving operations. The Unatego School District Board of Education will hold their next meeting this evening. The meeting will be held in Room 93 at the Junior/ Senior High School in Wells Bridge at 7:00 PM.

State Police responded to a fatal accident Saturday at approximately 8:20 p.m. on State Route 23 in the town of Oneonta. 45-year-old Katy Doughty of Walton was crossing State Route 23 near State Highway 28 when she was struck by a vehicle, the section of road is not lit and she was not crossing at a crosswalk. 2 people provided CPR, Oneonta EMS and Fire attempted to provide lifesaving measures but were unable to, Doughty was pronounced dead at the scene, she was transported to Lourdes Hospital for an autopsy. The accident remains under investigation, no tickets have been issued.

State Police arrested 20 year old Andrew Keil of Oneonta for Falsely Reporting an Incident and Making a Punishable False Written Statement. Troopers were dispatched to a report of a burglary at Keil’s residence, he reported that approximately $1,360 was taken, Investigators were able to determine that Keil lied to troopers and signed a statement about the incident and he was arrested. He was released on appearance tickets returnable to the town of Oneonta Court on Tuesday.

A Delaware County Grand Jury handed down several Sealed Indictments Thursday relating to 3 separate narcotics trafficking investigations conducted in the Sidney and Hancock areas by the Delaware County Sheriff's Office Criminal Investigation Division.   Arrested were 36 year old Angela Huggins of Sidney, 36 year old Mark Tubbs of Sidney & 30 year old Lisa Hayslip of Oneonta for selling illegal drugs in Sidney.  4 people from Fish’s Eddy were charged, 23 year old Samantha Wren, 33 year old William Weyrauch, 29 year old Seth Appley & 29 year old Lacey Benson for allegedly selling a variety of illegal drugs in Fishes Eddy, Benson faces an additional charge of Promoting Prison Contraband, for allegedly introducing secreted hypodermic instruments into the Delaware County Correctional Facility following her arrest.  All were arraigned and were remanded to the Delaware County Jail without bail pending further court action.

2 minors have been charged with criminal mischief, criminal trespassing & unlawful possession of a weapon, following vandalism at the Morris Central School District that occurred Sunday. The 2 are accused of breaking a window, soccer nets, and screens, and for shooting at a security camera. The Morris school district was closed Monday while officers investigated.

Today approximately 100 Delegates from across 10 counties met in Binghamton to formally nominate the Republican candidate for State Supreme Court in the 6th
Judicial District, they unanimously selected Chenango County District Attorney Joe McBride to run as the Party's candidate in this November's election. The vacancy in
this office was created by the recent retirement of Judge Kevin Dowd.

Sidney High School Senior J.P. Dewey has been selected to perform with the NYSSMA Conference All-State Jazz Ensemble in Rochester this fall. Dewey will be playing
piano in the 18-piece ensemble, and will also attend the music conference from November 29-December 2, he will also be eligible to perform with the ensemble in March
as part of NYSSMA Day festivities in Albany.

A judge has denied a motion by ex-Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver regarding his bail request, pending the appeal of his corruption conviction and seven-year prison term. U.S. District Judge Valerie Caproni has denied Silver's request Monday, she stated that the substance of Silver's appeal lacks merit, and the sole purpose of the request was to stall Silver starting his prison term on October 5th. Silver was sentenced to 12 years in prison after his first conviction in 2015, that conviction was overturned after the U.S. Supreme Court redefined the boundaries of public corruption, then a 2nd jury convicted him
earlier this year, for taking $5 million illegally by using his political power for personal gain.

Governor Cuomo announced the strategic deployment of assets throughout the state as heavy rain and flash flooding are forecast for areas of the Southern Tier, Central New York, Mohawk Valley, Capital Region and Mid-Hudson Valley. Remnants of Tropical Depression Florence are hitting the state today; the DOT is setting up staging areas in Binghamton, & Oneonta locally in anticipation of the need for storm response, with a variety of heavy equipment ready to go if needed.

Some flash flooding is affecting local schools this morning. The Bainbridge Guilford, Oxford & Greene School Districts are closed today, & the Afton & Harpursville School districts are on a 1 hour delay, & the Laurens school district is delayed 2 hours.

The State Department of Transportation will hold a public open house meeting on Wednesday, September 26 at Afton Central School, from 5:30-7:00 pm to discuss 2 bridge replacements on State Route 41 in the towns of Afton and Coventry. The project will replace the bridge carrying Route 41 over Cornell Creek in the town of Afton as well as the bridge carrying Route 41 over Wilkins Brook in the town of Coventry. Both bridges, which were built in the 1930s, are inspected regularly and safe for continued travel. The bridges will likely be replaced during separate construction seasons in 2020 and 2021. Delaware County Sheriff's Department responded to the report of a man with a shot gun near the Charlotte Valley School Monday. The school was in lockdown while deputies investigated, the man with the shot gun was a hunter in the area behind the Davenport head Start, the lockdown was lifted, and no arrests were made.

Assemblyman Cliff Crouch announced that the Harpursville School District will be receiving funding in the form of low-cost tax-exempt bonds to help support facility upgrades. The money is issued through the Dormitory Authority of the State of New York; Harpursville will be receiving $11,705,000 in funding.

Long time Norwich City School District Superintendent Gerard O'Sullivan announced his retirement, which will take effect in August 2019. O'Sullivan has been the district's superintendent for the last 15 years.

State Police arrested 48 year old Jonathan Loftus of Oneonta for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance. A trooper was dispatched to Chestnut Street where Loftus was accused of stealing prescription medication; he was arrested & was arraigned in the town of Oneonta Court where he was remanded to the Otsego County Jail on cash bail pending future court action.

3 independent candidates in the 19th Congressional District race have been removed from the ballots, after having insufficient valid signatures on their nominating ballots. Luisa Parker of Callicoon, Dal LaMagna of Clinton & former "Law & Order" TV Actress Dianne Neal of Hurley had their names removed; Neal & LaMagna are expected to appeal the decision by the board of elections.

State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli released an audit today that examined 7 school districts and their compliance with school bus safety requirements, it found that school districts are not confirming all school bus drivers are completing required training and drug testing, and that school bus safety drills and inspections are done. DiNapoli recommended school officials take immediate steps to address the deficiencies, have superintendents annually approve all drivers that transport district students, have all drivers meet the minimum training requirements, & have random drug and alcohol testing, & have all buses have pre-trip inspections conducted. 62 year old James Hone of Oneonta was arrested following a high
speed chase & after ramming his vehicle into 2 Oneonta Police cars,
totaling one of them, and injuring an officer. Hone was wanted on a
warrant for criminal contempt after allegedly violating an order of
protection, he was located by Oneonta police on 6th Street, when
Police attempted to make the arrest, Hone drove into the patrol car, a
2nd patrol car arrived & was also plowed into by Hone. Hone was
charged with attempted assault of a police officer, criminal
possession of a weapon, criminal mischief and 2nd degree assault
causing injury to a police officer, plus several other charges.

The Walton Central School district board of education held another emergency meeting Wednesday night, they appointed Larry Thomas as interim Superintended replacing Roger Clough, who is out of paid administrative leave following accusations of misconduct. The Walton School Board is also working to hire new principal at the High School & Middle School, & an Assistant Principal from both school, after Rob Knuschke, Andy Gates & Mark Lamoreaux all resigned recently to accept other positions in other school districts.

The Binghamton University School of Pharmacy & Pharmaceutical Sciences opened up this week at their new $60,000 million dollar building in Johnson City. State Police arrested 57 year old Cornelia Dawson of Massachusetts for Aggravated DWI with a reportable B.A.C. of .21%, as well as several other traffic tickets, after Troopers monitoring I-88 in Oneonta Dawson's vehicle cross into the shoulder several times. Dawson was arraigned in the town of Oneonta Court and released on her own recognizance.

Walton Central School Superintendent Roger Clough has been placed on administrative leave, the High School Principal Rob Knuschke & Assistant Principal Mark Lamoreaux & Middle School Principal Andy Gates have all resigned in recent weeks, following alleged misconduct by Clough while serving as Superintendent since 2013. Clough has hired a Syracuse Law firm; they have begun the process to sue the District, the Board of Education, and Board President Ronda Williams. The Walton School Board released a statement to WCDO today, first the stated that personnel matters cannot be discussed, secondly, 3 of the Walton Administrators accepted positions in other districts, the Board will consider all options to quickly work on replacements, & they are confident that they will have capable staff in place for their opening day events.

Democratic Party Congressional Candidate Anthony Brindisi has agreed to 6 debates throughout the 22nd district ahead of the November election. The League of Women Voters of Broome and Tioga Counties debate has been scheduled for November 1st at the PBS Media Studios in Vestal from 8:00 - 9:00 PM. Broome County District Attorney Steve Cornwell announced that 31 year old Brett Poyer of Port Crane pleaded guilty today to all charges, Poyer was due to stand trial in Broome County Court today. Poyer pleaded guilty to 2nd & 3rd degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, and 3 counts of criminal use of drug Paraphernalia. Poyer was arrested for allegedly operating a Methamphetamine ring that sold Meth along the East Coast; he faces sentencing on October 18th.

The City of Oneonta has been awarded a New York State Agriculture and Markets Community Growers Grant in the amount of $25,000 to make improvements to the Community Garden located at the Swart-Wilcox Park on Wilcox Avenue. Work at the garden will include installing a new accessible area with 4 raised table top beds, a new accessible path from the street and sidewalk to the garden, reinforced fencing to keep animals out, extending the water system through the length of the garden, a new shed and Communal gardening equipment, and new picnic tables and benches.

Julian VanCourt-Wels pleaded guilty to 1st degree Assault, after he accepted a plea deal from the Otsego County District Attorney’s office, back in December; VanCourt-Wels stabbed his girlfriend in the face multiple times at their Maple Street apartment in Oneonta. Vancourt-Wels will serve 10 years in a State correctional facility as part of the plea bargain arrangement.

Governor Cuomo signed anti-hazing legislation to help keep students safe as they go back to school. The law prohibits certain physical contact or requiring physical activity in any organization's initiating ceremony to prevent the deaths or serious injuries of students during fraternity pledging ceremonies. The legislation was prompted by the death of Michael Deng, a Baruch College student who died after suffering a massive head injury as a result of a hazing ritual in 2013.

Tobias Rundstrom-Wooding of Norwich received 20 years to life in prison for 2nd-degree murder and 1st-degree rape, in Chenango County Court Monday. Rundstrom-Wooding accepted a plea deal from the Chenango County District Attorney's Office for the rape & murder of 11 year old Jacelyn O'Connor on July 30, 2017. James Brower will be tried for his role in the case at a later date.

Delaware County Sheriff’s department arrested 2 Otsego County residents on drug charges Friday, following the execution of a search warrant on a vehicle in the Town of Sidney. Investigators arrested 30 year old Lisa Hayslip of Oneonta and 30 year old William Katalinas of Unadilla for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance. Hayslip and Katalinas are accused of possessing heroin with the intent to sell. Deputies seized heroin, Suboxone, drug packaging paraphernalia and approximately $200 cash. Hayslip and Katalinas were arraigned and were remanded to the Delaware County Jail on $100,000 cash bail pending action in the Town of Sidney Court Wednesday. Additional charges will be filed shortly.

The Otsego County health Department reported that a raccoon in the town of Mt. Vision, tested positive for rabies last week. The raccoon attacked a dog on Wednesday, 1 person came in contact with the raccoon while attempted the save the dog. The dog was up to date on its rabies vaccinations, and required a booster that evening. The next rabies clinic in Otsego County will be Tuesday from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Neahwa Park in Oneonta.

President Trump is planning to stop in Central New York today, first he will stop at Fort Drum in Watertown to sign a defense bill, then he will attend a $1000 a ticket fundraiser at an undisclosed location for Congresswoman Claudia Tenney, who is seeking re-election for a 2nd term to the 22nd District against Democrat Anthony Brindisi. State Police at Oneonta arrested 41 year old Coryn Rock of Morris on 4 counts of Criminal Contempt, after Troopers were contacted on July 26th, after a victim accused Rock of sending unwanted messages to a total of 4 people who were protected by an order of protection. Rock was arrested and arraigned in the town of Morris; she was released on her own recognizance pending additional court action.

Democratic State Senate Candidate Joyce St. George & 19th Congressional District Democratic Party candidate Antonio Delgado will meet with Oneonta resident this Saturday & Sunday at 2:00 PM. Governor Cuomo today announced that $1.5 million is available for eligible school districts to support the growth of Farm-to-School programs across the State ahead of the upcoming school year. The program helps Kindergarten through Grade 12 schools to increase the volume and variety of locally grown and produced food on school menus, it also assists the agricultural economy, providing additional business to New York's farmers. Grant funding of up to $100,000 per project will be awarded for Employing a local or regional farm to school coordinator; Training programs for food service staff; & money to expand kitchens & storage for farm products in the schools.
