The Otsego County Sheriff’s Office arrested 37 year old Matthew Romano of Unadilla for Aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle following a property damaged motor vehicle accident in the Town of Oneonta. Romano was found to be operating a motor vehicle with a suspended driver's license, he was issued a uniform traffic ticket and taken into custody on a Oneonta City Court Bench Warrant, he was then turned over to Oneonta PD to answer his warrant.
2 Blood Drives are scheduled for this afternoon, 1 is being held at the Quality Inn on State Route 23 Southside in Oneonta, from 1:00 to 6:00 PM, another is being held at the Sidney Elks Lodge on River Street also from 1:00 to 6:00 PM. Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 63 year old Kenneth Nilson of Oneonta following an investigation of a motor vehicle accident in the Town of Oneonta on December 9th. Nilson was charged with DWI, DWI with a BAC of .08% or more & failure to keep right, he was issued appearance tickets returnable to the Town of Oneonta Court at a later date.

Hartwick College officials announced that they are hosting 2 Candidate Forums prior to Election Day. The Hartwick Institute of Public Service announced that the forums are for Otsego County and Oneonta Common Council candidates. Tomorrow, candidates running for election in Otsego County will participate, on Wednesday, November 1, the institute will host candidates running for election in the City of Oneonta. Both events are scheduled for 6-8 pm. in the Shineman Chapel House on the Hartwick College campus.

24 year old Zachary Rowe of Harpursville, appeared for arraignment on a 2-count indictment in Delaware County Court. On October 1st, Sidney Police Officer Royce Terry arrested Rowe on a bench warrant, after being taken into custody, Sidney K9 Officer Riggs conducted a search of his personal property, Riggs quickly discovered and indicated the presence of narcotics, Sidney Police obtained a search warrant & seized $7,000.00 in illegal methamphetamine and fentanyl. The indictment charges Rowe with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance with intent to sell, he was remanded the defendant to the Delaware County Correctional Facility without bail.
Delaware County Sheriff's Office arrested 42 year old Brian Bennett of Oneonta for Criminal Contempt and 2 counts of Aggravated Harassment, following a Domestic incident, in the Town of Walton. On April 28th, 2022, Deputies responded to a Domestic incident, Bennett had been harassing 2 victims by electronic means and that 1 of the victims had a full stay away Order of Protection in place against Bennett. On May 4th, 2022, 2 arrest warrants were issued by the Walton Town Court, On October 11th Deputies arrested and charged Bennett on both arrest warrants, he was held at the Delaware County Correctional Facility to await centralized arraignment.

Susquehanna SPCA announced 2 programs in October made possible by grants from the ASPCA in partnership with Subaru. Five Star Subaru in Oneonta will donate $100 for every dog or cat adopted from the shelter, On Wednesday October 11 and on October 25, a special low-cost clinic supported by a $4,000 ASPCA grant will make spay or neuter procedures available for dogs of income-qualified individuals at a cost of $100 per dog. State Police and Emergency crews responded to a crash on I-88 eastbound in Colesville between exits 5 and 6 yesterday afternoon. An investigation revealed that a pick-up truck was pulling vehicles on a trailer, the operator lost control and rolled the vehicles, blocking both lanes. Some traffic was able to pass on the shoulder before the Interstate was shut down and travelers were re-routed off exit 5 to State Highway 7 then back on to I-88 at exit 6. The operator was a 51-year-old male of Elmira, He was treated on scene but did not wish to be transported to a hospital.

The Demolition of 27 Market Street in Oneonta will begin today. The building and site have been condemned and deemed unsafe. Absolutely no one is allowed on or near the work area except for the asbestos abatement contractor’s crews. There will be no parking on Chestnut Street Extension except for deliveries, on Monday, building demolition operations will begin, followed by backfilling and grading the site for parking. The project is expected to continue until the end of October.
September is Suicide awareness Month, and 2 events will be coming this month to raise awareness & raise funds to combat the continuing suicide problem.
